We've been shopping at this location for a couple of decades whenever we visit Mission Beach, which is several times of year. During our vacation, we probably visit the store about two or three times. Over the years we've often outfitted our sons with their school clothing whenever we are there (They are now in their 20s... lol). we've always had amazing customer service and our last visit was no exception. One stand out staff member in particular this last visit was Blake. He was just super helpful and very attentive with different members of our family to help us. The store is doing some renovating so some things had been moved around. It takes a lot to impress me with Customer service, and I have to say that Blake went above and beyond, but I think that's just his nature . He's juar a really good person and we certainly appreciate that when we go to this location as we end up leaving feeling like family. I will note that I'm sad to hear that this location will be smaller as we have always enjoyed being able to just walk to this location and have an incredible selection at our fingertips of our favorite brands that we've come to know to be available at SunDiego. Really cool store with lots of surf related items and apparel. Reef, Rainbow, Quicksilver, Volcom, etc., you name it, they probably got it.Two floors worth of $hit to peruse!!! They sell skateboards AND surfboards, both new and used and the surfboards are in great condition and very, very reasonably priced. (It just so happens that I fell in love with a lime green railed 9'-6" Bruce Jones longboard. So, SO wanted to bring that baby home with me... The store has changed, and not for the better. I spent 13 years in retail sales and customer service should be a priority. I was looking at the lightweight, patchwork and stitched blanket/throws from India. They were plentiful and each was rolled up and stacked; all had security tags but none had a price. I finally opened one up and searched all four edges, still no tag. No signs were posted. Finally had to find a sales rep and ask the price. I then asked why they were not tagged or there was no sign. The clerk then popped a hip and said if you can't find a price then you come and find one of us. The attitude was dripping with condescension. In this economy we need to know the price without needing to hunt for a clerk and we certainly don't need an attitude if you are expecting us to part with our hard earned money. read more

Two days ago I strolled into Sun Diego looking for a longboard after browsing sites with cheap (but crappy) boards like Walmart. I expected a decent board to cost around $70-$90. I told Nate I was looking for a cheap board and he shows me a few to choose from. To be honest, they were a little out of my price range, but I tried them out anyways. Nate was extremely patient and knowledgable. He made new recommendations based on the way I stood, foot size, and my overall purpose for the board. I told him about my prior hip surgery and he took that into account too. 20 minutes and 10 longboards later I finally found my perfect board. In all honesty, I would not have purchased a board without Nate's help and expertise. I've avoided activities like these since I had a hip surgery, but Nate helped me feel confident that I picked the right board. He was right. I rode the longboard for the rest of the evening and had the time of my life. Sun Diego & Nate, thank you for this experience. I will be back soon! read more

Bought my husbands new foam board here last night, and had fun walking the enormous store before the purchase. Not only is there a great selection of merchandise, the employee's working here were super helpful. Dayne helped us out the most, and really went above and beyond to give us the help we needed. It's what you'd imagine from a surf store, the prices are on par with other locations. The reason you should come here is purely based on the size and amount of brands they carry. We came for the board and still left with new sandals, and almost with new swim suits/outfits! It was hard to say no. The parking was good on a Wednesday night, though I imagine weekends would be tough even with a lot right outside since it is connected to Belmont Park. read more

I am so grateful to John (manager) and the crew at Sun Diego. They went to great lengths to help me find someone who had used a stolen credit card of mine in their store and did everything from getting me surveillance footage to the declined receipts. I am so grateful that they have very stringent methods with payments (requiring pins, ID's, etc). Many stores nowadays don't even check or ask for these things, but because of their policies and the thoroughness of their employees, I was able to stop the card from being used further. The store is also filled with incredible clothes and items...I had never been in before but was amazed by the incredible stock! I could not recommend this place more. OK, I admit it. I'm a tourist. I'm trying to become less of one by visiting SD more often, but I fear I'll never be fully accepted since I don't live there year round. Well, since we don't know any better, we head over to SunDiego. Now, I tend to frequent Mission Beach so that's the location we hit the most. However every location we've been too has been awesome. The staff is usually on the younger side, but they always take the time to help out us old heads when we are trying to look like we belong. Clean store, clean fitting rooms, great staff. Can't really ask for much more for from a retail store. (ha, unintentional rhyming is fun). Anywho, if you need some new threads, a new surf, skate or snow board head on over to SunDiego. read more

Stopped by here as your truly, the die-hard city slicker, picked up a pair of flip flops. I've always been a sneakers guy aside from India, where I usually walked barefoot. -My Quiksilvers set me back 25 bucks, I know these will last me far more than any pair I get at a drug store or Old Navy. And they're way more comfortable since my 1995 Tevas. -Plenty of swimsuits, clothing and all the surfing accoutrement and at decent prices if you go during this time of year. Just the right amt of variety and style to make it a cool shop, but has great staff to make a tourist like myself not feel overwhelmed or intimidated. read more

I am extremely satisfied with my shopping experience here. This store is far bigger than the other Sun Diego chains around the city and is very well placed for all the incoming tourists to our wonderful beaches. The men's section is huge, the surfboards are all upstairs, and the women's clothing has got some of the cutest stuff I have ever seen! 44 bucks seems to be the standard price for anything in here. But I did love the selection and the flop flops were good, but they could have used some larger sizes. But that's alright. The bikini selection was very picked over and low, a star removed for that; you think being next to the beach it would be well stocked, but that's alright. I ended up finding myself some awesome brown reef flip flops with some arch support for flip flop junkies like myself; dropping the money on them was not what I like but they'll last forever. Nice selection of stuff though overall. Don't to pick up your free Monster energy drink, and hit up the Chipotle in PB for your free burrito coupon you earned from the purchase you made. read more

Check out the upper floor for 50-70 % off sales rack. They had a male's sales rack on the first floor but didn't see any for women's. The sales associates were very informal. I know that it's a beach vibe store, but I wish the sales associates had more professionalism. One female associate wasn't wearing a name tag so I didn't even know she worked there. Also, I don't think there was a separate male and female changing room :( there are changing rooms and it's right by the windows to a neighboring store (which I'm sure people can see through!!) And the employees only room. Needless to say, things got a bit awkward. I also think one of male sales associate was drunk. I'll just give him the benefit of the doubt by saying the store was hot and not an drunk cheek glow. Otherwise, the store is neatly organized. read more

I bought a few Sector9 skateboards at this Sun Diego location a few years back. And as crazy as this sounds, I swear by these Longboard Skateboards. The most comfortable, smoothest riding skateboards on the planet. The staff at Sun Diego was very helpful when I purchased them and it helps out a lot when the staff is very knowledgeable about the product they are selling. I still come here from time to time...buying name brand slippers and shirts, but the first impression I got of this place is the reason why I come back. read more

Sun Diego the number place in SD to find all your new surf, skate , snow gear. They are hundreds of brands availible. There stores are all conviently located through out SD. The store at the beach is definately one of the biggest with special sections for certain brands like an O'Neill Room , Hurley Room, Redsand and so on. I love Sun Diego I would say I but a majority of my wardore from their stores. Their employees are really chill college kids so they can relate to their target shoppers who are mostly high school and college kids. SUN Diego rocks read more

The manager at this Sun Diego was nice but then I went back and he is gone, they have a constantly changing staff. The selection is more of a Nordstrom style surf shop than a real surf shop where you can come in with sand on your feet and get a bar of wax. The selection of swim trunks is large and well stocked. There is usually no one around to help you, they are either at the register or stocking something but no one ever says "Hi, may I help you?". I would give this a rating of "C" on a grading scale. Prices are high. Good selection of skate clothing. read more
