A fairly complex configuration which required extraordinary physical efforts from Jose to access various crawl space locations. The latter resulted in the ONLY response I received. A woman by the name of Tracy called me a couple of days after the chat. However, I was going into a meeting when she called. I asked her if she would call me back at 2 pm that day. She agreed. This was two weeks ago! And this is to get a quote! imagine if you were an actual customer needing help. SunFirst just completed the installation of a 10.5kW SunPower system on our Eichler in Terra Linda, and they really came through for us! To say that we have a "complicated situation" on our roof is an understatement. A recent remodel had resulted in tons of electrical conduit, HVAC ducting and fire suppression pipes criss-crossing the nearly-flat roof. Kim and her team were able to design their way around those challenges, and executed in record time! My experience working with their CEO, Kim, was efficient, direct and honest. The rest of her team was informative and helpful, going above and beyond expectations on multiple occurrences. Price-wise, they ended up coming out quite favorably too, compared to the two other installers I shopped them against. I would recommend that, if you're intending to pay cash for your system (or finance it through other means than their solar lenders), you be upfront with them to start with, since hidden fees from the solar lenders can start raising the price of a system, a practice that the installers apparently contractually aren't allowed to talk about. This is probably a general rule, as opposed to being something specific to Sun First. Overall, a 5-star experience, and we're so excited to be running our home off of the power of the sun! read more

As we learned more about PV systems in anticipation of our installation, we routinely communicated with SFS staff to share our questions and ideas. We initiated several substantive changes to our plans by deciding to upgrade our service entrance for future needs, and then add a battery backup system. SFS remained so very helpful and responsive to our interests throughout the process. We subsequently observed the logistics issues that such ongoing changes created for permitting and PGE coordination and approval. SFS office staff took care of all those details for us efficiently and with good humor. The installation staff were smart, experienced, and happy to share information about the systems they were installing. Our original system was installed in 2004 and was in much need of upgrading as it was degrading in production and was woefully out of date. I reached out to several and Sun First was by far the most professional and responsive. In particular Wyn Hoag was great at walking me through the design, providing a solar irradiance report, and talking about the right panel and kW for our particular house. A big bonus is that they handle all the design, permitting, PG&E changeover, etc. Wyn even consulted me on the best rate structure to use with PG&E to save the most money!!! The installation crew lead by Garvin was amazing. They completed the entire job in 2 days and were very efficient. Garvin says he uses a protractor and level to measure every single panel to ensure that they line up exactly. They even painted the conduit. The pride of workmanship is there. I have two 12 year old Sunpower systems installed by Sun First at home and office. They did a great job with the design, installation and permit process. No issues, service calls or problems for the 12 years. Yay I recently had two Tesla Powerwalls, designed , set up, wired by Kip the Sun First electrician and crew. . Beautiful work, exemplary installation. Last week we lost power for 54 hours, I had full power to the whole house with 51% battery charged by 5pm when PGE restored the grid. I hired them to do a roof-top solar installation and the process started out great. Their estimator was straightforward and we quickly came to terms on what few negotiable items there are on a solar installation. And then I heard nothing for months. And then they were ready to go; and oh, by the way, here are the drawings that we forgot to discuss with you and the conduit routes that we didn't really think about, etc, etc, I still don't have a functional monitoring system. I am still paying PG&E every month for electricity. I am still doubting why I chose this company. Repeated emails have gone unanswered and I can tell that since the basic install is over and they have 80% of my money, that they no longer care about finishing this installation. The workmanship was great on the panel installation and electrical work, but nearly every other part of the process has been terrible. read more

I can honestly say that I spoke to 9 providers before selecting Sun First. There's a lot of margin built into the solar panel industry, and Sun First came highly recommended from a friend of mine. Sun First was able to offer the most competitive price while not compromising on quality. I'm also very happy to support a local business in Marin County. From selecting Sun First as my solar provider in late-September, the great team at Sun First (Kim Fink and Stephen Dobbie) told me that my panels would be up by mid-October. As soon as my panels came in, they were at my house to install them the next day and kept to their promised deadlines. From the sales team, to operations, electricians, installers, and technicians, everyone has been incredibly polite and the service has been second to none. As soon as my system went up, I also noticed that one panel wasn't performing as efficiently as the others. The Sun First team quickly investigated the problem and offered to replace a vent that was causing some shading on one of the panels with a vent that had a lower profile. They could have told me to deal with it, but their excellent customer service has no limit. Stephen did a great job of evaluating our setting and buildings and advising where and what to do for us to get the "biggest bang" for our buck. Horrible, they ruined 6 roofs and were unable to follow directions nor willing to correct their mistake. Hired Sun First to place a large array on our commercial office condo. Their low skilled workers put panels on every owners building except for ours. Try explaining to six different building owners and the building association why you punctured holes in every roof except your own. They took no blame or were unwilling to correct the mistake they made and tried even turning our own building association on us! We had to hire a different solar contractor to relocate the panels and a commercial roofer to patch up every hole they made in six different neighbor roofs. Took 15 months to cleanup 3 months of damage. Lost $6000+ on power generation, $6000+ on roofer hole patching, angered our neighbors, and to top it off the new solar contractor used non penetrating ballasts which didn't penetrate our roof at all. Sun first never gave option to use ballasts. They were also over priced. They take no responsibility for their mistakes, sneaky, sleazy, business practices. Stay away from this company. read more

We installed our panels 8 years ago and hired Sun First. The whole process was very straightforward and we've been thrilled with our tiny utility bill ever since! Now moving forward 8 years, we just installed a new roof. As part of the process, we had to remove and reinstall our panels. Kim was our project coordinator and she was terrific in tracking the progress of our re-roofing to ensure that we could get our panels reinstalled as soon as possible. I was also impressed with the fellow who was the lead remover and installer for our job. We ran into a complication in that one of the other contractors took or recycled some of the conduit left by Sun First. I fully expected to pay for this missing material because I've been conditioned by so many other contractors that it is never their fault, but not Sun First. How ethical AND refreshing. We first Solarized our property in 2004. When a part failed we replaced it with fewer panels (from 23 to 13). It looks like our new system will be so effective it will produce 100% of what we need. The installers completed the installation in about a half day; it was up and running that afternoon. We are able to follow the production on the Internet so we know exactly was being produced each day, each week, each month and eventually, each year. My Sun First Solar install was fantastic from start to finish. Kim was awesome coordinating and walking me through the process. Aran, the president, even came out to do the shade calcs himself, talking us through all the options. Then the SunFirst Solar team arrived onsite, Kipp Shaw their master electrician was the best and a true customer focused professional. Rewired an old system from nearly scratch and installed all wiring and commissioned the panels. He provided clear description of the work he was doing and was very patient with my questions (and my excitement). Garvin, Louis and Brandon worked through the day and did a phenomenal job on SunPower's new X21-335 black ACPV panels. Also, very patient to my many questions and picture taking. That night when I turned on the MBR lights I noticed some flicker and my printer reset. I called Kipp and he was back the next day, a Saturday, with a great attitude, he determined an issue with the neutral & ground causing a voltage drop and rewired the circuit. He then went through and checked every circuit in the house, inside and out to ensure safety and correct service. SunPower was equally fantastic, from James Swinger closing the deal, Casey Burns coordinating, Chris Fox & Benjamin Wong onsite at install day. Fantastic partnerships all around.
