I would highly recommend PacSolar. Eric designed and installed my system a few years ago and I've had zero issues. I will be adding more panels this year as I move away from gas more than I had anticipated. I was impressed in all my dealings with Eric. He is very knowledgeable and was able to explain things to me in a way I could understand. The one thing that I appreciate more now that I've worked with other contractors is that Eric was my only contact for solar. Unlike the larger companies (where you deal with sales, design and then install, often leading to communication errors) Eric was my only contact. He assessed my needs, designed the system and was on site for installation. He continues to be a resource if I ever have questions. I don't often say I would 100% recommend anything, but I would have no issues recommending PacSolar. read more

PAC Solar installed our solar system several years ago in a seamless process that coordinated the roofer, utility, and all aspects of the process. Eric kept us informed through the whole process and we had a great experience. He has also been helpful through the years when we've had various questions about the system. Our recent experience with another company for a battery system (we had to use this company for various reasons) was the complete opposite. We had issue after issue and one that they just couldn't figure out, except to spend a bunch of money on some unneeded new equipment. Eric sent out an electrician who solved the issue in no time. PacSolar installed our solar panels 3 years ago. We recently had a problem with one of the panels and Enphase sent us a replacement piece. I have contacted Pac Solar via telephone and email to make the replacement, as Enphase had advised us to do. I have never received a call back or any contact from a PacSolar employee to arrange the solar to be serviced/repaired. It is very disappointing that I can't depend on the company that installed the units to then service when necessary. read more

I am writing this review as I am extremely disappointed and annoyed with the service I have received from Pac Solar. I begin working with Eric Miller in 2020. I understand the epidemic changed everything. I am faced with having solar paneals on my home illegally as the City confirmed no permit has been issued even though he started process June 2020. mits from the City of Hercules and my panels have not undergone the necessary process to connect with PG&E. Although I have paid Eric 80% of his contract price and there remains a balance owed to him once he completes all of the necessary work, i.e., permits, etc...Eric has not returned my call for over 8 months. Although it seems odd as to how I could let this go on so long. My husband died September 2020 and because I was grieving I was not able to initiate follow up with Eric until June 2021. From June 2021 until now, Eric has not returned any of my calls and has not followed through to adhere to the provisions of his contract....although I have paid for 80% of the work. I am faced with having solar panels on my home illegally as the City confirmed no permit has been issued even though he started process June 2020. I have very little options left ...which are to contact the BBB and Contractor's license board as well as consider suing him in small claims court. read more

Pac Solar earned my five stars and I agree with what the other 5 star reviewers have written. I received a quote from Pac Solar and from one other company. I am very detail oriented and Eric was able to answer all of my questions to my satisfaction. I chose Pac Solar and am totally satisfied with all aspects of the system and the process, from start to finish. There were no surprises and no additional add-ons. He also made recommendations as requested. As part of the project, I replaced my roof and Eric worked well with my roofing company to coordinate schedules. He was flexible on the timing of the installation of the solar panel stanchions, which had to be done right after the old roof was removed. The quality of the panels and related products used are excellent. The quality of the installation is also top notch. Eric made sure all work was done by 12/31, so I would qualify for the 30% federal tax credit. At our final walk-thru meeting, Eric took the time to explain everything and provided a binder with all pertinent information. I believe that the major reason Pac Solar is able to provide excellent service at the best price is because Eric is the owner and customers are able to work directly with him instead of through a salesperson or a foreman. read more

We were referred to Pac Solar by the installer of my new roof. He gave high praise of the workmanship of Pac Solar. I was looking forward to working with Eric, of Pac Solar, on designing and pricing a solar system for our home. Unfortunately, trying to get a response from Eric is next to impossible. I had attempted by sending Eric two text messages in the early part of July. sent two emails to Pac Solar's email address, on July 8th and 13th, with no reply. I left two messages on the companies main line, voice mail, with no reply. I finally reached Eric on my third call to Pac Solars main number. Apparently it re-directed the call to his cell phone. After our phone conversation, Eric sent an email to me outlining the PG&E billing information he needed. I returned the requested information to Eric on July 29. On July 30 I sent another email asking for confirmation that Eric had received the information he requested. No reply. On August 11 I sent another email asking for confirmation that Eric had received the information he requested. No reply. On August 27 I sent another email asking for confirmation that Eric had received the information he requested. I also stated in this email that I had been attempting to get a solar estimate from him for over six weeks. As of this review, I have not had any reply. I had originally been very interested in working with Eric, based on the person who had made the referral. It is disappointing to not receive any acknowledgement to my emails. If Pac Solar is too busy to take on a job, they should just say so. read more

The couple of times I have reached out to Eric Miller post installation have been awful. He was quick to write me off and explains he would charge $300+ to come by to look at any issues. Eric is not interested in his customers once the panels are installed. He will say he is extremely busy and will hang up on you. He is also the admin of your system so if you want to monitor your own solar panel production and efficiency of micro inverters, you "just have to take his word for it". Pac Solar will NOT be getting my endorsement any longer. Stay away from Pac Solar! They don't care about you once you paid for installation. read more

Eric, the owner, was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He promptly returned my request for a quote with a phone call and appointment. He was on time for the appointment, asked the appropriate questions to identify our needs and made suggestions that aligned with our needs and wants. Once we made the decision to go with Pac Solar (based on references, price and Eric's thorough knowledge), we scheduled the installation to suit our schedule. During our bidding process we met with a total of 4 solar companies and the results from the others were: a much more complicated process, told we needed to spend 10s of thousands to upgrade our electrical (we did not), higher prices, and quotes on equipment we specifically said we did not want. The installers from Pac Solar were professional, got the work done in two days, cleaned up after their work and did an efficient and solid job installing our system. Eric checked up on the installers to make sure the work was done correctly. Eric then followed up and scheduled the necessary inspections, filed the paperwork with PG&E and did a great job of explaining everything along the way. Most of my sentiments are reflected by other reviewers, but here are some of the highlights. 1) Eric Miller - Eric takes tremendous pride in his business. We wanted to install our solar system when we were having roof work done, and throughout the information-gathering, contract-signing, and installation process, Pac Solar was communicative, informative, and pleasant to work with. Our installation went well and the system worked great. After a year or two, one component failed. While it didn't affect the performance of our system, it was a monitoring panel that communicated whether the system was working and how well it was working. I reached out to Eric repeatedly for a replacement, as our contract contained a 10-year warranty. I probably called a dozen times before getting a response, and it literally took months to have him make an attempt to fix the monitoring panel. He said he would come back and finish the job, but never did. He never returned another call of mine. I have no complaints about the job they did, but it really feels like this company doesn't stand behind its work. They certainly don't stand behind their warranty. One other note -- lots of great reviews here, but be aware that customers are given gift cards for writing reviews. read more

I could not be happier with my solar installation done by Pac Solar. It was about as easy as it could be. Eric took care of everything; from planning, permits, installation and lots of explanations. Eric was very good about answering my questions and making sure I understood how net credits worked. The final packet I got was very detailed and will be nice to have. We spoke to several solar companies before we found Pac Solar but once we met with Eric we knew that his was the company for us and he proved us right every step along the way. Unlike all the other companies we spoke to, with Pac Solar you meet with and receive your quote directly from the owner Eric - not some sales person who has nothing to do with the installation or end product. Eric is not making promises he can't keep or telling you what you want to hear simply to close the deal and then disappearing. His professionalism, knowledge and confidence in his ability to provide a great product at the best possible price is immediately evident. He actually went up and inspected and measured our roof as well as walked through the house to make sure there were no unexpected issues he needed to take into account (like sprinklers) so he could create an accurate design from which he created his quote. He also had no interest in overselling us - in fact he was very adamant that there was no benefit to over designing the system explaining that you can only offset what you use. Paying for the capacity to produce more than you need is a waste. His price was very competitive. We liked that his components are all made in the USA and that his crew is made up of full time employees - not sub contractors. He followed through on every promise he made and everyone was punctual and respectful of our time and property. From beginning to end this is a class act company and we highly recommend that if you are considering going the solar route that you contact Eric with Pac Solar. Pac Solar designed and installed a PV solar system for our home earlier this year. From the initial consultation to turning on the system it was a fairly smooth process. We dealt directly with Eric, who was professional, responsive and thorough. We asked a ton of questions upfront and he patiently answered all of them. We were getting a new roof at the same time so Eric coordinated directly with our roofers, which made the whole processes easier. The install crew was also polite and did good work - my husband went up on the roof afterwards to inspect the job. Pac Solar was a recommendation from a neighbor, but we also got bids from 3 other companies. Ultimately we went we Pac Solar because they were responsive, priced well and easy to deal with. I typically don't write reviews but the whole experience with Eric of Pac Solar has been so great that I just had to give him credit. He came to our house to inspect the roof and has been working on our schedule vs. like many other contractors on their schedule. This has been SUPER helpful as both my wife and I work full time. Eric described the process and energy production in clear terms and walked us through timeline. He met all deadlines (actually installing couple days ahead) and the system is producing exactly the amount of energy we were told it will (this is super important as you want to product exactly the amount you need and not significantly more as you don't get a credit for overproduction but you paid for a larger system). When searching for solar installation companies, after a while, you begin looking at "differentiators" between them in terms of sales, knowledge, engineering talent, customer advocacy, and details. This is where PAC won out over the competition. Aesthetics are a consideration as well since solar is "not very pretty" in general. Getting references, lots of pictures of other installations, and describing to the "layman" customer some of the nuances between going one way or the other, and the reasons, plus discussing total long-term costs associated with decisions was included in the presentations. PAC also explained how to best use PGE in-your-favor with rate schedule changes to maximize grid-tie payback during the afternoon when you generate most of the "expensive" power for optimum account credits, and how-the-energy-production game is played.They actually go up on your roof with you while they explain the ins-n-outs so you can get a real feel for your installation, and any inherent issues. This is where PAC Solar edged out the competition. Eric Miller also pulled 6 years of prior PGE energy usage for gauging system size. Nobody else did that. They just looked at a current bill without getting an "average" usage over a longer time. Discussions of "future use" possibilities with electric cars was done with PAC, but no others. PAC was interested in the "future" as well as the past with its design. Some big-name solar companies try to push leases on you, some with large up-front buy-ins to lock in energy rates where you don't own the equipment and the company keeps all your federal tax rebates. Those are like pre-paying your bill years in advance and just "locking in PGE rates", which rise 3% on average. You are just buying the power, not the solar unit. Others don't explain that most solar panels will last 25 years, there is little to no maintenance required in general, and the cost per KWh goes down every year. Inverters go for 10 years or more, easily. Other smaller solar companies will give you more options but analyze your home/roof from afar and not really go into the "details" of how they will run the conduit, where the inverter is best placed technically and aesthetically, emergency shut-off (fire) codes, and a host of other topics. PAC did that, by default. When you buy into solar energy, you pick a point in time, preferably while rebates exist. Right now, at 30% federal tax credit (which big solar companies TAKE to reduce their costs, not yours), the cost of solar finally got down to a relative sweet spot finally. Yes, the technology will change for the better, same with cars. You just have to pick the best time for "you" to buy. With any solar installation, there are up-front costs. But PAC works on providing you with the payback in years for the saved energy at current PGE costs. PGE always inflates their energy pricing (2 - 3%/year), so it often is "less than what's calculated", if you generalize and project a 5.5 to 5.8 year payback at a static energy cost. Installation is explained well in terms of where conduits will be run for maximum appeal and shortest run where DC voltage loss is lowest. Eric explains why or why not you would benefit from a string inverter vs. a set of micro-inverters, and makes good sense, after analyzing shading areas, obstructions and trees or neighbor's long chimney shadow in winter at 4 PM that may reduce overall output. All these items add-up. The other solar companies don't go up on your roof with you and "look around" for such things that could reduce your photon count to the projected installation area. Overall, the purchase and installation process was well done, well engineered, and a full and complete disclosure of the entire process and how it was designed, installed, warrantied for parts/labor, and configured for grid tie in, PGE rate schedules, city permitting and sign off, was all presented in a neatly organized binder for reference and any possible future warranty or post-installation service. You could try a DIY sort of job where you find a contractor/electrician that knows solar, and go to a discount/wholesale solar provider, but by the time you do all that, and have to engineer it yourself or use the contractor's engineering time, you may as well just let PAC Solar handle the whole job. It will be less headache, every little detail will be handled, and you just write checks as the job progresses and the system gets city and PGE approvals to operate for a grid tie set up. DO NOT HIRE THIS SHADY SOLAR COMPANY OR ERIC MILLER (Sorry I couldn't resist the pun) Pac Solar pays $40 for each review a customer leaves. As a result all those positive reviews are nothing more than paid ads. We purchased a house that had two additions added but neither has heat. Since I work at home I wanted zoning heating in my office. After talking with several heating companies and two solar firms, I decided to use electric heat (expensive) and off- set the cost with solar. I explained to Eric that I would be using space heaters for a portion of my house and showed him the rooms. We also added a new roof as I did not want to replace the old roof once the solar was installed (and adding solar can void a roof warranty). Prior to installing the system the owner sent an email that said: "The system will offset 114% of your projected annual electricity bill. The extra 14% is to accommodate additional electricity usage (i.e. some electric heating) The total out of pocket for the solar is $12,744, with a net of $8,921 after the tax credit. The solar system should provide a 13.5% annual ROI and pay for itself in 6 years 10 months. But, if you equate the $3,000 credit from the roofing its ends up providing a 22% annual ROI with payoff in 4 years 7 months In all fairness the actual cost was less. However when Eric Miller came to drop off the monitoring system he realized the system was too small. His suggestion was I buy a gas heating system. The company made a mistake by not calculating the expected electric use correctly. To me adding a heater is no different than say adding an air-conditioner or electric car. In these cases the system size needs to be adjusted for the projected use. Not only did they not calculate the size of the system correctly but I told them the size system I wanted AND the other solar company recommended a larger system as well. But making a mistake is not the end of the world assuming the company fixes the mistake. Eric Miller simply regurgitated that we "miscommunicated". Besides being complete BS he is unwilling to do anything to resolve this problem. WHY HIRE A FIRM THAT DOES NOT STAND BY THERE WORK. And like other Yelpers I wanted a local company. This was a mistake. I could have leased a solar system with no out of pocket costs and off-set my electric bill. The other company could have installed a battery as a backup system and the price was competitive. But by hiring these yahoos, my warranty will be useless if Eric retires, closes shop or is indicted. After taxes the new roof and solar system cost around $17,000. Now I have to buy a heating system that will cost another $15,000. But that is not the most painful part. Try explaining to your spouse why you spent $30,000 to run a space heater that cost $50 at the Home Depot. So if you are considering hiring this Eric Miller and Pac Solar I would suggest you check your house to see if there are toxins affecting your brain and make an appointment to see a marriage counselor. Ps. Eric's response reflects his attitude. Its not his fault I am a liar. .And no I did not request a 6,000 watt heating system nor did I request he build a coal power plant in my back yard. I did request the capacity to be increased to account for the space heaters and for air conditioning. But I do not need to increase the capacity by 200% I need an additional 1.500 watts. The fact is that a space heater is 1,500 watts which is the same as my crock pot. And I am not using 4 space heaters at the same time, 8 hours a day. I am using space heaters and air-conditioning a few hours a day, on the off peak hours and the rest of the time the solar panels are feeding the grid to off set my cost. You can buy this system from the Home Depot and reduce the operating cost by using a zoned heating and cooling system. The fact is Eric should know this and could have added panels to the system based on my most recent PG&E bills. AND I DID NOT ASK HIM TO PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL PANELS. If Eric's response to my review was "The customer asked for additional capacity and I told it would cost this and he said no" that would be a different story. My long winded point is why use this contractor when there are others available. read more

Getting a system from the larger national firms was impossible- my consumption too low. Eric, Pac Solar's owner operator took the time to design a system that made economic sense and worked with my largely shaded location. Installation was unobtrusive and timely. I expect to offset essentially all my power use. Eric is both a pro and a solar power missionary. He offers warranties and sources American product. He was patient with all our questions as well. In doing that homework, I would strongly recommend asking Pac Solar and Eric to be involved, simply because, as you can see from other reviews here, they may well be the best source for honest and objective input. You can then verify: Why the panels they use are the best, and offer the rare 25 year warranty of a US Company. Why Enphase Micros are a much smarter way of linking a system, and how the manufacturer and Pac Solar will assure the effectiveness of your system on a constant basis. Given the quality of the materials used, you can then understand why the installers of Pac Solar take no shortcuts, finish promptly, and leave a clean worksite. It would make no sense to do anything less, especially when they provide a ten year warranty on their work. Whatever you do, do NOT go solar without consulting Pac Solar!! read more

None of solar companies I short listed were bad (I got 3 quotes) and their quotes and options seemed comparable at first. After talking to Eric, I knew that I would be in good hands and I'm really happy of my decision to pick Pac Solar for our project. Eric really went above and beyond in educating me about solar and customized the solar project to my family needs and to our environment (our type of house, the shade from the trees, etc.). I worked with Eric around New Year's to start designing a solar array for home in Petaluma. There were no south-facing portions of the roof for my installation but thanks to Eric's careful planning and measurements, he designed an east-west configuration that is subtle in appearance and offsets my net power usage for my home. Eric coordinated with a local roofer to ensure that the new roof and solar dovetailed nicely and they did. Once the rain let up my system and new roof were installed in less than a week. Eric followed up with details of how the system worked and how to understand the new power bills and what to expect. I now log on daily to check my power generation and smile as I know the system will pay for itself in a few years and I've dramatically reduced my environmental footprint. We kept interviewing solar installers who cricked their necks at our roof, frowned at our small (even with our EV) electric bill, and said our system would be soooo small. One fired themselves, one came back with a proposal that didn't make much sense, and the third talked to us for an hour, but never came back with a bid. Then there was Pac Solar. Eric did say our electric use was very low, and that our system was a little bit of a challenge to design, but then he and his crew designed, permitted, and installed our system for a reasonable cost, and met all of our requirements (as well as, importantly, the PG&E and building permit requirements). We had to arm wrestle over one contract term (lesson: Eric listens to his customer's concerns, but still looks out for his business), and settled on something that worked for us both. In short, it can be difficult to find a contractor who does what they say they will, and is pleasant and technically competent. Eric is all of that. Highly recommend Pac Solar and Eric Miller! I received bids from three different companies, all with great reviews -- two local small independent contractors and one large, national company. All three bids were competitive, but Pac Solar stood out above the rest, thanks to Eric and his level of personal attention to the project. His passion for what he does is quite clear: the other two companies merely based their bids on images of our roof from Google Satellite, whereas Eric visited the site, climbed up on top of our house, and got a first-hand look at our extremely funky rooflines. He took the time to come back and explain his bid in person (the other local contractor emailed his bid; the national company explained theirs over the phone), then continued to visit us multiple times over the course of the project. The job itself was done quickly and efficiently (as the City of Oakland permitting process would allow) and the Pac Solar crew (I believe there is only one, so the quality of installation is consistent across all their jobs) was polite and communicative. And we're pretty thrilled with the results -- none of the panels are visible from the street, and it's a great feeling to watch your meter run backwards. The leasing company wanted me to sign a contract before they'd even give me any real sort of quote. Eric of Pac Solar was the exact opposite of the leasing deal - helpful, informative, professional and personable. He answered all the questions I had plus some I hadn't thought of. He gave me a turnkey solution and then worked with me through the challenges I faced in getting the financing and with my problematic Eichler roof . If words like kilowatts, inverters, and conduit do not fall trippingly off your tongue, you need someone to explain how solar works, how the costs and savings stack up, and how the system can connect to your home's existing electrical system. Eric Miller is the guy who can explain this to you (more than once if necessary). Unlike our first bid from a different vendor, Eric got up on the roof and measured exactly how the panels would fit in between our roof vents, and he produced a drawing of the layout. He also looked at our electrical panel, and immediately knew we needed a subpanel (more space) for the connection. That turned out to be a simple item, but one the other vendor's salesperson could not fathom. Installation was very professional. The guys on the roof used a ladder support to protect my rain gutters where the ladder rested. They took great care to measure the joist locations, so the support feet would be in the exact right location. It is unnerving to hear anyone drilling holes in your roof, but the triple rain protection they install is a belt-and-suspenders approach. The guy installing the subpanel was similarly careful, and he did a beautiful job routing the conduit that leads to the roof. Eric makes a very important final visit to teach you how to monitor your system's electricity production, which is available realtime. He even gives you a draft tax form to claim your tax credit! I really don't think anyone will beat the service and knowledge of Pac Solar. I am very satisfied with this purchase. read more

Kudos to owner Eric Miller and Pac Solar for a job well done - I'm happy to write a well deserved positive review. I had complex situation - My 22 year old roof was damaged due to the recent very strong winter storms. It needed replaced. Unfortunately, I had solar panels on the roof. So, the old solar panels had to come off, a new roof installed, and the solar panels reinstalled. But wait - my solar panels were 14 years old and there is a 30% tax credit to install new panels. I determined, with Eric's help, that the cost differential was not that signifiant considering new panels are much more efficient and fewer panels would be needed for more KW output. The system Eric designed was more advanced technically and esthetically attractive then his competition. I can monitor everything on line [if necessary] including daily output and the status of each panel. Communication with Eric was easy and hassle free - there were no long waits after leaving an email or voice message. Its great to deal with the owner via his personal cellphone. In contrast, the estimator for the roofer I used was difficult to contact [message box always full] and therefore necessary to communicate with a third party office person. This can be extremely frustrating. Eric's coordination with the roofers concerning removing the old panels and installing the new ones in the middle of getting a new roof was efficient and hassle free. This could have been a real problem if Pac Solar and the Roofers had not coordinated. Installation was on schedule and completed in one day. The system is up and running and I get a kick out of logging on and checking my new system. I commend Eric or his positive, efficient customer service and highly recommend Pac Solar. read more
