My system was installed by another company approximately 12 years ago. The original system's Fronius Invertor gave out while still under warranty and Fronius had SolarCraft handle the warranty replacement with a factory refurbished unit. All was well until the refurbished unit bit the dust. I contacted Zach at SolarCraft about getting a replacement invertor, since my prior experience with them was excellent. They recommended a current model invertor, and I hired them. A week later the new invertor arrived at SolarCraft, and Zach coordinated installation for the next week. SolarCraft's technician Talon arrived promptly as scheduled and less than 4 hours later the failed unit was swapped out with the new model. He verified that the invertor was working properly and we were done. I'm very pleased with my experience with SolarCraft's service and employees. read more

SolarCraft installed 14 solar panels on my roof in January 2025. The installation was completed in one day! I live in a wooded area of Fairfax, CA, but SolarCraft strategically placed the panels to get the most exposure to the sun. My experience from start-to-end was very professional and I love seeing MUCH lower PG&E bills every month. Ted Walsh and team made me feel like a VIP!! I also have a whole house generator running off of natural gas. SolarCraft planned out the best path for PG&E grid power, solar battery energy, and the generator to work together without issues: when grid power goes out, the system uses solar battery power, and then switches to the generator. We've had several outages since the installation and I've barely had to use my generator as I had enough solar battery backup!! I know that adding owned solar panels and a battery to my house will increase resale value in the future! I highly recommend SolarCraft for your solar power needs! SolarCraft completed their installation on my house today. The complete system (14 solar panels and 2 Enphase batteries were installed in a day and a half). The experience has been great from the start - the process started with a very knowledgeable sales technician who put together the proposal while working very closely with me to understand my design criteria, power requirements and budget constraints. Then a pre-site inspection phase to ensure everything everything would fit as designed and to scope out proper placement of batteries and control panels. SolarCraft did all the work to obtain the proper permits from the city and then installed the system. It hasn't been turned on yet (need to wait for approvals from PG&E), but am looking forward to being energy independent soon. Sales team has been stronger than the project management, but when I pointed this out to them they responded with accountability and grace and had sales step in to support project management as they are in a pickle if having lots of people wanting solar before the end of the year due to the changes in Federal subsidies so project management is under a lot of pressure. We had been eyeing Solarcraft for some time now, and we finally decided to pull the trigger and committ to Solar. David Berry (the initial consultant) was very patient and knowledgeable, continuing to answer questions throughout the process. The pricing, service team and communication was all true professionals (Janelle was our PM, with support from Chiara and Tricia). We have a flat Eichler roof, and so it was nice that Solarcraft is partnered with Wedge Roofing, (another Terra Linda favorite who also happened to install our roof as well), to install the mounting on the roof. During the actual installation process, Taylor? (the roof specialist) and Andrew? (the battery specialist) and their respective teams were on time, knowledgeable, and friendly. These guys really know the Eichler housing, and so I felt comfortable knowing that they had experienced these types of structures previously. We had another company tell us it would be thousands of dollars (and months of wait time) to get PG&E to move our panel to allow for installation, but that's when SolarCraft's experience come in. After checking out several solar providers, we settled on SolarCraft because they are local to Marin, have been around for quite a while, and were highly reviewed by others. As well, their response to our inquiry was by far the least pushy. While others hustled to sign us up after blazing through a flashy presentation, SolarCraft simply gave us the details we asked for and told us to talk it over and get in touch when we were ready. No hassle, no fancy slide deck, no pressure. The finance process was also the least complicated of the ones we were suggested. There's no power production agreement and no situation where they get the tax incentive. If you're not paying outright, you can get a loan with a bank, which is what we did, plus an initial down payment. We'll get the tax credit next year at tax time, which will offset the down payment we made this year. Once the loan is paid off, we'll own the setup, which is nice and simple. If equipment fails inside the warranty, they will work on it using the warranty. Outside the warranty, the equipment and labor would just be what it costs, like any other sizable purchase. Throughout the installation process, SolarCraft was very communicative via email and let us know what to expect, what the next steps were, and when they would happen. We now have a beautiful, working solar setup, batteries, and monitoring system. We couldn't be happier with the way this went. We chose SolarCraft because they were local, been around 40 years or so, and are employee owned. We got three estimates (Sun Power,SunRun). SolarCraft was the best fit for our needs. From Sales, Permitting, and scheduling, SC kept us informed re the processes and the timelines. Our system was installed this month, June 2024. We had one minor glitch. One of the inverters failed after a few days. Rather than wait for the inverter company (Enphase) to respond/deal with it, SC took the initiative to replace the inverter from their own warehouse stock. This is one of the most professional contracting teams I've ever worked with. From sales to provisioning, every step was handled with enthusiasm, skill, knowledge and a lot of customer empathy. Taylor, Craig and Grey enjoy their jobs and it shows in how they treat customers and challenges. No large-scale home improvement project is problem free. What distinguishes the Solar Craft crew is how they handle the problems. Sales -- Starting with the sales process. Buying solar is an aggravating process. Hyperbolic savings claims, no line-items bids, entirely new terminology to understand, etc. The thing that distinguished Solar Craft from ALL the other providers (I received five bids) is that Taylor answered my direct questions. They provided a line item bid when asked and stuck to it! Moreover, Taylor never practiced any of the high-pressure sales tactics other companies tried. I felt he genuinely wanted to provide a great service. He would periodically check-in even after the contract was signed. He followed the entire project from beginning to end. Installation - Craig ran the installation crew and spent a lot of time with me making sure the design would work. He did three site visits prior to starting. He genuinely listened to my overall lot plan and modified his plans to ensure future building expansions would not be impacted by code or zoning issues. His crew showed up on time, worked hard all day. They were professional and gracious, letting my six-year-old daughter write her name and handprints in the concrete foundation. Due to high demand Tesla batteries were backordered, but the installation team stayed on top of Tesla and got batteries on site as soon as available. Provisioning - We installed in September/October and of course PG&E announced a public safety power shut off before our inspection was scheduled. Not only did Grey pull strings to move the inspection up as soon as possible, once the inspection was done he came onsite during his wedding anniversary weekend! to complete the final provisioning. He spent three hours on a Saturday making sure everything was running and walking me through the Tesla app. Communication with the team was really a highlight. It may seem like a little thing, but I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have a sub-contractor answer emails in a timely fashion. Also, they may hate me for saying this, but all three of the above folks gave me their cell numbers and answered txts and phone call promptly and pleasantly. SolarCraft sold me a residential solar system in February of 2016 and claimed that the payback period would be 7-8 years. Here we are in 2023 and I'm paying huge "true up" costs to PG&E (over $2000). My system may never pay for itself. I've tried several times to contact the company to see if they can help. Expectations vs. reality: sorely disappointed. Reading the most recent review from Frank B, I wish I'd had a similar experience. Unfortunately, this was the most frustrating contracting experience I've had. I'll try and make it short and concise, but also include useful, actionable feedback that could be insightful for the company and other potential customers: - **6 months** end to end, from signing, to system getting activated. I signed in May, missed the entire summer of solar generation, and was up and running mid-November. On the contract I signed, "Total Design and Build of Project: 4-10 weeks + AHJ & Utility Interconnection Approvals" (interconnection approval was 6 days, so PG&E pulled their weight). So, TL;DR, expectations given for timing were extremely mismatched. - This wouldn't necessarily be a big deal, except I'm renovating the entire house, and since SolarCraft needed to install footings before reroofing happened, and because they needed to install a new main panel before I re-wired all the electrical in the house, they delayed work first on the roof and then on literally everything in the house while walls and floors lay open waiting to get the electrical finished. I chose SolarCraft over other (less expensive) contractors because they were recommended by my roofing contractors, who said they'd worked well together in the past and could take care of coordinating between the two teams, and had a reputation for responsiveness and good project management. I was sorely disappointed. I had to follow up repeatedly with both them and the roofers since they clearly weren't communicating right from the start, and both projects were delayed as a result. - Project management and communication was at the core of what went wrong here. Installing solar is a complex process and involves several steps that should be closely sequenced. Sometimes they can and should be done in parallel, since they rely on PGE and others that have lagging time frames. The folks at SolarCraft failed to pay close attention to each step, update me where we were in the process, and proactively communicate when they needed something from me. They also treated every step as if it had to be performed serially when often that wasn't necessary, further delaying the project when it could have been moving along if they simply kept pushing instead of sitting back as soon as something was blocking. For example, the main panel upgrade on my project (which eventually became the blocker for completing work) could've happened right after I signed in May, but it didn't happen until October for no obvious reason (once engaged, the panel contracting team was available almost immediately, and PGE took a month to be available for a power shutoff, which SolarCraft must have done, what, a thousand times before)? - Part of the communication problems I had too, was (in part probably because the install took so damn long) I had two project managers that I was passed back and forth between, so I had a few occasions where I had to re-explain context that should've already been in someone's hands. - Actual installation (once scheduled and onsite) was top notch. The installation craft and build were top quality, despite missing one microinverter connection that I found and corrected easily. Electrical work, conduit work, main panel installation (which was contracted out) and solar racking was all done very professionally and safely, given COVID restrictions. I wish that I could give a review to those guys separately, because they were excellent. That's what my 2 stars are for. - Post-installation, I've found the interactions to be a little frustrating too. 1) I had an issue with the panel configuration in the Enphase online app and wanted to get it fixed myself, but had to wait a few days for someone to respond to my emails and update the config from their office. I'm a software engineer and owner-builder, so would just prefer access to the configuration myself. Perhaps this is something not in SolarCraft's control, but thought worth mentioning. Maybe Enphase just doesn't allow owners access to their own equipment configs, which seems weird and vaguely illegal to me, but *shrug*. 2) Similarly, I've asked about what options there are for tilting some of my panels that are racked at a 5 degree North angle, since they're generating less than half what the rest of them are despite being well-exposed to the sun, and the response was basically, "you're an owner, we don't share see engineering information like that, we recommend cleaning your solar panels occasionally". Maybe I am an unusual customer here, but I have a feeling there are often techie solar customers who want to understand and get hands on with their solar installations. Disappointed with response. - I haven't had the need yet to reach out for warranty support, but I don't have high hopes. If the need comes up and I have a good experience, I'll update my review to reflect that! read more
