Desperately needed a haircut after almost 2 years without one. I was looking for someone who knew how to cut Asian hair in the Nashville area and came across this spot which had great reviews so I decided to give it a try. Her salon is located in Antioch and thus about 15-20 minutes away from downtown Nashville but it's definitely worth the drive. Also, important note: When I called to make an appointment, her schedule was booked out for a week already so make sure to call early. To start the appointment, I showed her several pictures of the style I was looking for and told her approximately what length I wanted. She asked me a few follow up questions and then got to work. She was fantastic. Really professional and friendly. And I'm really happy with the results! The whole thing took about 45 minutes (for several long layers and no shampoo) and was only $30, which is way cheaper than what I'd expected. I've decided this is my go-to hair salon in Nashville. I've already recommended it to a couple of my friends and will definitely continue. I'm already looking forward to my next haircut! read more

I really enjoyed my visit to Sun Hair Salon! The lot is modest in size, but there were plenty of parking spaces in front of the location in an outdoor strip mall right in front of the salon. Make sure you make an appointment in advance, as she does get booked really quickly. By the time I called, she was already booked out one week in advance! Upon walking in, there was a bit of a wait. There were two gentleman in front of me, but they both finished within 10-15 minutes each (including a shampoo for one - talk about efficiency). I didn't find the wait too long at all, considering that I was given a slot outside usual business hours. I think the stylist took me on despite having ended her normal day. Before starting, the stylist made sure to ask me what style I wanted and if I wanted to maintain my length. She quickly layered my hair for a breezy, lightweight summer style! My hair was feeling so bulky in the humid Nashville weather, and I was so greatful for this professional cut. She went through several times to check for length and style before cutting face framing sections. I would suggest bringing in a picture if you want a particular style because I imagine she could quickly produce a similar cut. The price is unbeatable in what I've seen for Nashville. It's about $30 for a cut without shampoo. However, should you want more specialty services, like a Japanese hair straightening treatment or digital perm, that will cost you upwards of $100-200. I was really happy with my cut and style, so I'm hoping to come back some time! This salon is in Antioch, so if you don't live nearby, it takes about 15-20 minutes to get here from Nashville proper. I felt very conflicted writing this review since this salon historically had GLOWING responses from their customers, but I wanted to share my personal experience. I am new to the Nashville area and was passionate about finding a small, Asian-owned salon for cheap and stylish haircuts. I found Sun Hair Salon and reading the numerous positive reviews made me determined to get my hair cut here. Even after a scheduling miscommunication and numerous attempts of the 40 minute drive to the salon, I finally secured an appointment for a long women's haircut from Brian before my vacation. Brian was very gentle and thorough with his communication, I showed him a picture of the bangs I wanted and we discussed briefly how to adjust it to flatter my features and hair type the most. I felt very positive from our discussion and his clear communication. When trimming the rest of my hair, he would double check the length and how much I wanted to be trimmed off. However, there was no trace of that previous delicacy when he cut my bangs in one shot. I could tell he saw my shocked expression and hastily tried to even out the bangs. Unfortunately they were far too short for any styling and they ended up being extremely choppy and unflattering. He took extra time to curl my hair and style it a little but we could both tell it was done to cover up the situation. I admittedly did not say much in the moment because I felt too shocked and embarrassed. There was another customer in the salon waiting and I didn't want to burst into tears or make a scene. I felt so confused as to how an experienced hairstylist could be so careless with a very common style and a young girl's image. He didn't even brush the loose hairs/ends off my face and I walked out the salon feeling absolutely mortified and shabby with zero confidence. In all honesty, if you are a young girl looking to get a haircut, please consider this salon carefully. You could definitely have a positive experience since so many other people have left 5 star reviews. There are previous reviews from this same salon with really beautiful and well styled bangs that make me even more embarrassed and confused as to how my own personal experience has not been as gracious. read more

Customer service two thumbs down--had an appointment waited 15 extra minutes, got done with my appointment within 15 mins(I ask him to blend in the ends and he was like eh no). My husband thinks I'm crazy for driving an hour to Nashville to get my hair done but where I live there is not a single hairdresser who knows how to handle Asian hair texture. My hair stylist was Brian. I went in to get my hair colored and asked for a black to silver ombre and even showed him a picture of what I wanted on someone with my same hair length and type. He said that it was "impossible" to do ombre because my shoulder-length hair was too short. He suggested doing silver highlights instead and after some back and forth, I reluctantly agreed. He's the hair expert after all, and I had read other reviews about this salon knowing how to work with thick Asian hair. Silver ombre would have been fun, edgy, and unique. Silver highlights, however, made me look like an old grandma. It was so bad that I left in tears and immediately went to Walgreens to dye it back to black myself after. Wasted $160 for no reason. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because Brian did pay a lot of attention to detail throughout the 3-hour process, it was just a terrible idea to do silver highlights on a 24-year-old girl. read more

In the past, I've flown to NYC and California just so I can get my hair cut from a good, legit asian place. However, i was in dire need of a trim as my hair was dying from the color I put in it.
