So, I am in Florida during Hurricane Ian Sept 28th, 2022 staying at a friend's safe home and I break her favorite mug from Sun Lakes Resort that her best friend gave to her. Ugh! I called Sun Lakes Resort, told Goldey my story of woah and said I would pay anything to get a similar mug shipped to my friend. Goldey took photos of what was available and texted them to me. I chose the mug and said name your price. My friend received her replacement mug today and Goldey would not accept any payment from me. We did this all during a Hurricane! Goldey, I will never forget your kindness, thoroughness, especially during the end of your busy season. Blessings to you!

My entire extended family has been coming here for 30+ years every August as a yearly family reunion. All different types in the family: we all love and cherish this place. We do five nights, six days Sunday - Thursday. Something for everybody!! --My grandpa stays in his air-conditioned RV majority of the day. He serves breakfast, keeps all the drinks we could want on hand, plus playing cards and magazines. :) The RV park is a short walking distance away (as everything here is). It surrounds a huge grassy field where we play a baseball or racquetball game. --The families stay in air-conditioned cabins. They are clean, and you can get new towels every day by trading them in. Includes refrigerator, a fold-out futon bed, two queen beds, table, dresser, closet, oven, bathroom, etc etc. I've brought along a laptop and workout DVD's and had plenty of space to work out. --Speaking of working out: there are trails you can run/walk on, and they go right along the lake. Also you can find a set of 3 cliffs to jump off and swim - about a 5 min drive. --Speaking of the lake: it's beautiful!! Boats, jet skis, many docks, swimming area. --There's a pool as well. Mainly used by families with small kids who are absolutely adorable and you can act like a little kid for awhile and throw them. Just beware, pretty soon all the kids are swarming you and you feel like the Hulk. --Tables outside each cabin, so you can read in the morning, have snacks, serve dinner outside etc. --We do a theme for dinner each night, and a different family is in charge of the decorations, cooking etc. At the end of the week there's a voted winner. So fun. We push the tables together, get themed tablecloths, music, etc., and go to town. --Snack bar is awesome - high school kids servin' up ice cream, drinks, burgers, etc. My sisters get a smoothie every single day, they are that good. The reward after a few hours of swimming, water skiing, tanning. Hard work man. --Small grocery store with penny candy for ze kidz. --Wifi is near the office only. --In the office they serve fresh fudge and gifts. --GOLF: the men in my family are obsessed. There's also miniature golf for anyone to enjoy. In addition to all this, a short drive away you can see a movie, get pizza, etc. Usually we just stay on campus for the entirety of our trip, though. *I recommend bringing a big cooler full of drinks and packing breakfast, lunch and snack items. As we drive up each August, there is a sense of excitement and joy that manifests in our hearts. The warm memories last almost all year, until inevitably we start yearning to return!! Regardless of age - children with families, a group of 20-somethings, etc.. this is camping at it's finest. We'll be going to Sun Lakes for many years to come.

This place is a solid 4 of 5 stars. And I wouldn't call it camping, so much as glamping... We decided to have our Cousin Weekend here for 2010 and the place was perfect. We stayed in clean, small cabins for about $100 a night that had AC, a stove, fridge and beds. The cabins overlooked the lake and had a nice green lawn that was perfect for lawn games, family dinners and general merriment. There are also mobile homes, "deluxe" cabins that are off the lake as well as spots for tent and RV camping. If you want to have a fire, you have to get one of the portable firepits from management - which are free but there aren't enough for everyone, so put your name in early. There are many activities one can participate in here. There is golf, put put golf, a pool, paddle boats, fishing boats and a beach area to swim in. The fam had a good time at the beach but preferred the paddle boat dock for leaping into the lake. Props to management for not choosing a wooden dock, but a strange plastic composite that does get warm but doesn't hand out splinters or get really slick. The garbage situation sucks for a Seattle girlie like me. There is only 1 place to recycle here and they only do aluminum and cardboard - though I was told by management that you could leave the glass out near the aluminum bin and it would get picked up. It was a trek to be able to recycle so I didn't haul all our stuff up there everytime even though I should have. This place was fabulous and a great place for families. We're planning on heading back next year.

Camping at Sun Lakes is a family tradition that goes back over a decade. The park staff is friendly. They have a burger and ice cream stand in the resort. The water is famously warm and inviting. It's a great place to take your family on an affordable vacation. Don't try to stay in a tent, the winds are crazy sometimes. Stay in a camper instead.

Nestled at the bottom of a canyon the scenery doesn't get more beautiful. We visited this park in mid August and the weather was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. On the downside, each night we had a horrendous wind storm which about blew our tent over and made sleep impossible (pretty common here we came to find out), the park is pretty crowded and loud, not necessarily a quiet place, and fires were not permitted, we didn't even see any fire pits. All that being said, we still had a great time. The weather was great, the lake was warm and there was plenty to do in the area. I would stay here again, but make sure you call ahead to reserve a good site. We liked the very back row for tents, lots of room in each site, and a beautiful backdrop.

View from our site #208. Nice and clean good space between RVs.

The park offers amenities: public restrooms in a building and some port-o-potties; outdoor shower to remove the grime (that gets in EVERY crack); covered picnic tables. It also has some grassy areas for recreation and a playground for the kids. Plus, there's a touch of culture, with what professes to be the first human figure sundial. The sand is rocky in and out of the water, and the water is shallow, good for keeping it fails warm and for wading quite a ways out. It was nice to slather ourselves in the clay and let it bake in before rinsing it off. But be warned, the sulfur in the water and clay will keep you and anything you wear smelling even after a thorough washing. So I wouldn't plan a nice evening out after ;-) We look forward to going back for more fun this summer, after we check out some other local beaches.

There is a bath house, Beach Access, Picnic Tables and a huge Bronze & Basalt Sundial. It's a great place to stop and play or even plaster yourself in the healing mud from the lake. Swimming is easy as you float easier because of all the minerals in the water. We made a specific trip here during our vacation. Daughter and her kids played in the healing waters while wife read a book in the shade and I took the nap I really needed. Unfortunately, I took too long of a nap and missed laying in the water :( I guess I'll have to go back next year. This is the 3rd time we've come here and it is always worth a repeat visit when you are in the area.

First issue: Someone thought it was a genius idea to hang a wasp/hornet trap right in the middle of two campsites -- ours and our neighbors'. Saturday morning, we woke up to wasps swarming all over our tents. At first, we couldn't figure out why until we spotted the trap in a tree, literally buzzing with activity. My husband went to the ranger station to report it, but no one was there. About an hour later, a ranger finally showed up and moved the trap -- by that point, our kids hadn't even been able to leave their tents. Once that was dealt with, I started cleaning up all the trash left behind by the previous campers at our site. Later that evening, while we were having dinner, our older daughter was stung by a bee. Speaking of trash -- let's talk about the lakes. We visited multiple spots around the lakes, and honestly, it felt like flashbacks to dirty California beaches. Everywhere we went: trash, broken glass, diapers, beer cans, baby wipes. Floating in the water. Tangled in plants. Scattered across the shore. My daughter was in the water for maybe 45 seconds before she cut her foot open on a shard of glass, and we had to go back to camp to pull it out. None of us even got to swim. And this wasn't just one spot -- we tried three different lakes and five different locations, hoping for a safe place for the kids. Nothing. We are never coming back. People can say what they want about western Washington coasts and lakes (the weather, the crowds, whatever), but what we do right is keeping our beaches, parks, and wildlife refuges clean. We respect our nature and our wildlife. We don't like people coming into our homes and leaving trash everywhere, so we don't do that to other places. This place could be a gem. It could be beautiful and worth returning to every year. But that won't happen. This was our first -- and our last -- time visiting.

There is a sign on the door that says no hot water. That's fine, whatever, tent campers get cold showers while paying for full hookups like we did so we could have electricity but we get cold showers because we are sleeping in tents. But this was not the issue. The issue is that the hot water is turned on sometimes... and there is no warning and no way to regulate the temp that comes out of the shower head. For whatever reason the faucet, while turning left and right - effects nothing. Now, if the water coming out was a nice warm 105 to 110 degrees that would be fine. But this was so hot it burned my daughters head and she only had it under the shower for the time it took to turn the water on, scream and move away. So, I went and got my meat thermometer and tested it. 167 degrees Fahrenheit. I highly doubt the legal department at PUD is aware of the water temperature streaming out of that shower head. One more thing about that water. We were told they turned on the hot water because the water for one of the RV'ers wasn't working. What? I'm confused on this tidbit. We also bought an RV space. Why the plain discrimination against tenters who are paying full rates? Why not warm water for all? But please, before that, fix the temperature problem first. If my daughter had been 2 instead of 21 her skin would have blistered and there would've been a hospital trip. Other than the hot water issue the campground is very nice, windy like a tropical storm, but beautiful. Be aware, camping has recently changed to reservation only.
