I joined this tanning salon just 4 days ago, and unfortunately, my experience has already been extremely disappointing. The evening I joined the girl at the front desl took a long time because she was not familiar with the tanning programs- soon it was after 8p and she said i couldn't tan because they were now closed. Today, Sunday, I wanted to tan again so I called to make sure they were open. The girl who answered the phone confirmed that they were open until 4p I drove all the way to the salon, only to find the door locked and absolutely no one there. For a new customer this is incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. It feels like this place is only interested in taking your money than providin good customer service . If you arae going to advertise your hours and confirm over the phone, customers should be able to reley on that information. Very disappointing experience! read more

Alex is an absolute sweetheart. I definitely recommend this place and at first glance parking might look sparse, but there's underground parking as well. This place is always clean. I've been coming to Sun Studio on and off for years for UV or spray tanning. The salon is clean, with modern equipment. The people at the front are nice, especially Alexia. I also observed how welcoming she was to all the customers that came in during my last visit. I was sitting in the lobby, doing something on my phone, and noticed she was greeting customers by name. She quickly helped everyone but it didn't feel rushed, just respectful. The studio also has a new sauna and a stand up red light booth. I had a monthly membership to this tanning salon and they suddenly opened June of 2020 after being closed for several months. I had no idea they were open, they did not call or email, they just said that they posted it on Facebook which I do not even use. They still continued to charge me for my monthly membership even without contacting me to let me know they were open. I get spray tans a few times a week for my job, but unfortunately I was not able to work for a bit during the pandemic and could not afford the extra expense. They were incredibly rude when I asked for a refund for the month they charged me for when I did not even know they were open, but they refused to refund it and only give me store credit for it. Afterwards, this company sent me to collections over just $60. It looks like from the other reviews I'm not the only one. They lost a consistent customer that has spent a lot more there than what they sent me to collections for because of their poor management and customer service. Very disappointed by the way I was treated. Luckily there are so many other tanning salons around because I will never support a business that treated customers so poorly during the pandemic while so many people were struggling. read more

I feel obligate to share my experience about this Studio. I was a regular for more than 13years. Since the place was bought and has new ownership. It's terrible. Half of the beds don't work, they look terrible, scratched , old and dirty ! Management is rude and doesn't maintain the place properly. The front desk, some girls are very nice some others super young and incompetent...they made me stay under a machine waiting for 5 minutes to turn on. Overall I don't recommend it. This place destroyed my skin. I am so so sad. I was assured by two employees that the sun tanning booths would not damage my skin. As long as I used to be red LED light machine every time. I used that light seven days a week and my skin still became permanently damaged, nevertheless. They offered no solution to try to restore my skin. So upsetting. So dangerous and irresponsible. I wanted to warn other people that you should not trust with these girls say. They're paid minimum wage in the company takes no responsibility and making sure they do not misrepresent anything or make medical claims. My fave tanning spot in LA! Unfortunately, I have to quit the tanning beds, due to some pre-cancer stuff. I love the mini high and glow I get from the beds, but I also love my health. The beds (from when I was able to use them!) are top noch. All of the girls that work here are super sweet. Any time I've been out of town, the owner Ken has been awesome about letting me freeze my account, as well. This is also my favorite local spots to get an airbrush tan. They use Fantasy Tan and the undertones come out great. The fade level on this is also the most even I've had, compared to other places. I'll be sticking with them for that, for sure. Very bad and unprofessional not well trained staff and ownership. I have been a costumer for 8 years and this girl Alexia denied me cuz my card on file was expired . She said you go home and get your new card cuz the system won't let me lol I was leaving on a trip next 3 hours and asked her to call the owner or manager maybe she can give me one time Courtesy and she called her saying I shouldn't let him tan right ? Lol and manager said yes don't let him . anyways .. they don't value costumers who gave them so much business and brought so many clients too . I was being chargers $120 a month for unlimited and now I got new membership with palm beach tan down the street for $59 which is half of the price and way better tanning beds and stand ups. If you live in Venice , marina del Rey or Santa Monica you should go to palm beach they have amazing prices with better service read more

Originally started coming to this location when it was still Hollywood Tans. I've never been to any other tanning salon so I don't have anything to compare it too... I guess that should also tell you that I'm quite happy here and have found no reason to leave. Everyone is always super friendly and courteous. The place is very clean. They play fun music to listen to while your in the booth or bed. They provide dry and cold towels to clean off. They offer to store your lotion, eye covers, etc for no add'tl charge. read more

I absolutely love this salon. Been going for about 2 months now with no signs of stopping. Staff is always friendly, quick with getting me to a bed, and very helpful with picking lotion and bed types for what I am trying to accomplish. I tell everyone about this place! Super clean, great accessibility (free parking and even an elevator for the days I don't want to walk the stairs) also their tan package deals are unbeatable! Very unprofessional people work at this place. I had spray tan done and it turned to awful! Very uneven. Hands and feet area weren't protected at all (she did spray protective solution, but probably not enough or not correct). Besides, they probably were understaffed and she constantly was leaving room to ether answer phone or greet costumes. So if you don't want to look like leopard, don't go there! read more

I have recently been in search of a new tanning salon near home in Venice, and had not found anything west of the 405 freeway that I really liked. So I visited the top 3 in the area I found off of Yelp, and I was thrilled to find Sun Studio LA. First of all it is huge, immaculately clean, has plenty of free parking, and reasonably priced. Best of all the owner Kevin is extremely friendly, and a great businessman. He's gone above and beyond what other salon owners have done to offer a superior product. I don't normally use yelp to gripe, I only check reviews for my own use. However I feel compelled to write about this one. This place is full of hidden charges and fees and don't understand the term "cancel" when it comes to your membership. I had originally bought the top of the line tanning package to tan only, not spray tan. When I wanted to come in for a spray tan it's an EXTRA $10 to spray (after you pay the very expensive monthly fee). How can you make someone pay an extra fee when they are already paying for the top of the line package that includes everything? When I decided that they were stealing enough of my money I went in to cancel my membership. Evidently they call this a "freeze". Three months go by and I see a charge pop up on my bank account and decided to call and see why they were continuing to charge me for a cancelled account?? They told me I only FROZE my account and did not cancel it and there was nothing I could do about being out more $$$ from this place. Bottom line, I'm not complaining about the actual services here, it's about the hidden fees and overpriced packages in the first place. They are not clear with you upfront about how much you will be spending and you will continue to be automatically charged if you don't properly "cancel" your membership. I've worked in a tanning salon before and know that hidden charges are not the way to have customers coming back for more. I'll stick with my Total Tan LA package down the street because they aren't going to charge me some bogus hidden fee for not using the correct terminology for saying "I don't want to use your facilities anymore". It sort of looks here like Hollywood Tans just asked all of their employees to write a review to make up for the one bad one. Well, even if you have some fishy yelp status, I will help you out... BECAUSE I LOOOOOVED my experience here. And! Let me tell you I'm like 18 shades darker than I was pre- "mirror" tan. That's what I call their premium, top-of-the-line machine with all the mirrors. I forget what they call it. But it's AWESOME! First of all, it has the least UVB rays so it's the safest machine. Second, you STAND IN IT! Well actually you stand in all of their machines. The girl told me that people were getting BACK FUNGUS (gah!!!) from tanning beds. I've never gotten that before but it really grosses me out and I don't think I can ever go in a tanning bed again! I asked if people get foot fungus from their stand-up booths and she had a great answer: The tanning bed surface is plexiglass and harvests bacteria easier, and is harder to clean than the stand-up booths. I was a little scared at first, but she explained that if you get too hot or you feel you are in there for too long, just step out. You have one little changing area in the booth, and then the tanning booth itself. OK and get this: inside the tanning booth there are speakers with music so you don't have to wear headphones and fumble around with them. You just stand there and "dance like a stripper" as the girl said, and 9 minutes is up like THAT. I promise, it's actually kinda fun! She also said that activating your blood circulation (by dancing like a stripper) helps you tan... I'm not exactly sure why but trust the tanning expert. I also recommend using their tanning lotion - I've never used it before so I don't know if it's the tanning lotion or the booth itself which has resulted in my fabulous tone but either way, I'm supremely happy. And it makes your skin REALLY smooth! The smell lasts for a while though, even after I showered, so make sure you pick one that you like. As a first-time customer you get a free 3-star tan. But since I bought the lotion (and this is only on Monday) they will upgrade you for free. The tier goes like this: 1 star, 2 star, 3 star, premium mirror machine. So since I bought the lotion I got an up-to 11-minute premium machine tan for free. The lotion cost like $3. And I only used like half of it, so I highly recommend trying it. Tip: Apparently it's better if you go after you exercise. I had just come from Spinning class and asked her if that was OK, and she informed me that exercise opens your pores, making your skin more adaptable to a tan. Again - trust the tanning expert! She was SOOOO helpful and made me feel really comfortable, and seriously she had a good explanation for every question I had. After I came out and my skin was red and blotchy and I was scared, she said "Don't worry, it's extremely hot in the machines so your skin is just reacting to the heat." Ahhh, I see! And it went away after about 20 minutes. You can see results almost right away (though she did tell me that "people of ethnicities" tan easier, which is true) and you're supposed to see even better results like 4-5 hours later. I'm extremely happy and a little sad that I bought the 5-tan package ($80 AND SHE THREW IN ONE FOR FREE!!!) because seriously I only needed one session to get a nice color. I guess now I can tan pre-paid for the next 5 years. read more

I bought a monthly membership and wanted to cancel after the 3 months..he was rude and made excuses why I can't cancel and need to wait another month.This is a newer salon so the place is clean and there is a very sweet girl that works there but there are alot of better tanning salons in the area.Beds aren't very strong you need to go alot to see color ..if you have the time for that and don't care about customer service this could be the place for you read more

I usually frequent the West LA location out of convenience. However, this one is just as amazing! The staff is super knowledgable about not only the tanning beds but the products as well. They are always incredibly patient while I decide which sample lotion I want. I love that the beds are always clean, I never have to wait for someone to get off their tush to clean one. There are tons of great deals- from discounted lotions to discounted packages. Honestly, the best part about both salons is that I always leave with a smile. The girl working the counter was alone except for the dude that did the cleaning, but she managed to be helpful and precise regardless of having to run back and forth to perform a spray tan. I just wanted a small package cause I am heading to Coachella but I havent' been in the sun for a year and I am not so into burning to death. So I bought the 2 get one free deal and will attempt to go 3 times this week. It's not likely to happen but I like knowing that I took care of everything in one evening around 9pm stoned as hell. Not a bad experience, but I had trouble with a bed shutting down early and I had to get dressed and tell the front desk girl that I didn't get my full tan. She gave me a few extra minutes but didn't seem to believe me that I honestly didn't get my full tan. I got claustrophobic so I pushed the up arrow and the bed wouldn't move up, so I panicked and pushed stop and squeezed out of the bed crack. I thought I could push start again, but apparently when you stop, it just stops completely even though the timer is still running. I guess they were having issues with the up button. I hadn't been to a tanning salon in maybe a decade, so it was all new to me. Obviously you aren't going to get the happiest people ever working at a tanning salon, but I didn't find the front desk girl friendly at all. Sun Studio is really nice, they were running some good package deals (single tans so pretty pricey these days) and it was really clean. I don't think I'll return just because it was awkward for me and there are plenty of places to try... but not a bad place to go! read more

I have been a member of this place for over 5 years now. This place getting worst year after year. I am frustrated with how they have treated me after all this time. I left 2 big bottles of lotion which I had paid for over $100 each with my tanning glasses in the bag they provide you there. The entire bag is now missing. Their message to me is that your lotions expired and we threw them out. First of all who are you to make decision for me when I have paid for these. Second of all there is no notice posted that if these are here for a period of time that we will throw them out. No call ... Just throw them out as you please ??? I have paid for these. Did my tanning glasses expire too??? I have been there for my last two tans and have requested a manager to call me but no call. Last time I was there I picked up a bottle off their own shelf and there is no production date or expiration date on the bottle. Wtf so how do you determine what you are going to throw out. I feel like they have robbed me of my bottles and I had to buy another lotion the last time I wast there. I have one more tan left ... Never will go back again. read more

If tanning with UVA/UVB isn't your thing you can trust the capable hands of Chelsey or Katrana to give you a spray tan. If you don't like capable hands, there's always the automated VeraSpa as well. Just discovered this place near my office recently and it's so good! I haven't tanned in a while and am naturally very pale. One of the owners was there when I purchased my packages. He was super sweet and helped me choose a couple great spring deals. He was very personable and even listened to me babble on about my day a bit. I came back the next day for a session and was helped by a pretty girl. She was a bit shy, but so helpful nonetheless. She talked to me about my skin type and suggested a booth and time that would be best for me. The booth was very clean and had everything I needed. I got a towel, eye protection and a place to change. I felt so great after and could see results in a couple days. Very happy I found this gem. I haven't lived here very long and I'd been putting off getting a tanning package. Last month I took a week and did somewhat of a tanning tour around the west side. After hitting up 6 diff places, I went w/ Hollywood Tans. Few reason: They're open late. The place is new, clean and rad. The people were the most helpful. Beds are nice and they change their bulbs often. Never have to wait in a line. Prices were the best by far... and now I'm about as dark as a white boy can be Also, the people who work there are great. Among the nicest people I've met in LA. And they remembered my name after just about 5 or 6 visits. Anyway, just wanted to give a quick review cause every day at work someone asks how I'm so dark. Amex says these horrible people who own the salon won't answer the request to return the money they stole from me! I called the better business bureau on this company because they steal from people who sign up for memberships! They have many reviews where people say they never received their money back that they kept taking even after these people cancelled their memberships! Here's my story: I signed up for the MOST expensive package. Their very "intelligent" staff talked me into buying a product (that I used once) and it gave my skin a disgusting rash! When I brought it back, totally full, they would NOT give me a refund or even apply it towards my monthly payments of 95$ A MONTH!! They took back the full product, but held my money hostage in my account, only allowing me to use it towards another product! I told them I didn't want to use their other products because I didn't want to risk getting another rash... and the owner and his son treated me like I was some kind of horrible person calling me a liar and cancelling my membership! Meanwhile I showed them the rash! Then I saw in my Amex account, a full monthly charge for the next month (even-though my membership had already been cancelled)... so I immediately disputed the charge, and of course, disputed the charge for the product I returned. Well... that was a mixup by Amex. (the charge was for the prior month but it showed up on the next months bill). The salon owner sent me a crazy threatening text, saying I'm a thief and he's going to hurt my credit!! Omg!! What a psycho!! I told him I called Amex and realized it was a mistake, and to just resubmit the payment to Amex. The owner refused and tried to force me to give him my personal information online and send him a payment over the internet! Um... NO WAY!! That's not safe!! But he REFUSED to just resubmit my payment. He wouldn't do it! He threatened my credit! He was so HORRIBLE!! I'm seriously appalled!!!! (He's a tanning salon owner need I say more)! I finally just showed up to his salon with money in hand... and his "intelligent" staff member took my payment. In my opinion ... there are sooo many other tanning salons in LA. Why bather using this one if this is how they treat their customers? What a total nightmare!!!! PS... The girls at the salon talked total smack to me about the owner, calling him difficult and cheap! That's how I found out the son was not the boss... and worked for his dad "the tyrant" Update!! They received a check from me ... handed to them in person, but they were also paid by my credit card company! These fuckers double paid themselves from my accounts! I have the proof from AMEX and from my deposited bank check!!! I knew they were They are bad people! Today, I turned them into the Better Business Burrow for investigation! I have full proof. I also made copies of their bad reviews on Yelp and attached it to email I sent to BBB! This will teach them to steal people's money! My husband and I started going several months before our wedding (when it was still Hollywood Tans) and continue to go a couple times a week now that the wedding has passed. I've always had an incredibly hard time establishing a base tan but these guys were super helpful and gave me different lotions to try out. and I FINALLY have a tan! It's been years!! I walked in curious to see what the salon was like while waiting for my nail appointment to begin, and I met Alex at the front desk. She was very sweet and made sure I was well informed on all that the salon had to offer. I was a first time customer and she assisted me in choosing the best tanning bed and lotion for me. With salons being closed and not having much time for self care, I had an amazing experience while visiting the salon. I had a great time rocking out to my favorite music while tanning (I like to dance and sing when I tan in stand up beds. I know, I'm weird lol). They had my favorite type of stand up bed in the salon and I was so excited when I found that out. The salon is also very cute on the inside and they had some special deals for tanning lotions and tanning packages. Their prices and beds are great! I shopped around for awhile, (and I have worked in the tanning industry so I know what I'm looking for!) and this salon has the most reasonable prices with very good beds. I have encountered at least 3 or 4 different employees and every one of them was friendly and polite. There is free parking! Right across from them is a good nail place. Plus, there is a Starbucks and a great juice spot right downstairs. It's a nice location; you won't feel like going tanning will be a chore when you can also get your nails done or grab a coffee there. I literally have zero complaints. Just a heads up though - getting in and out of the Lincoln and Maxella area is a bit of a pain because of traffic. But it's definitely not bad enough for me to stop going! read more
