Sun roll 3/5 Rainbow roll 4/5 tuna roll 4/5 The rolls are fresh with the fish. The rice is too soggy. Price was normal. Service was good (profession).

Couldn't recommend more!!! By far the best spicy tuna crispy rice, amazing portions, TOP NOTCH service. Also had a delicious roll. Love the sauces love the plating. The food was brought out super quick and the server was so kind. The restaurant is very cute and great for a lowkey date or a family dinner. Super friendly pricing!! We will be back

Had the best experience at Sun Sushi and will be returning! We were in Santa Barbara for the weekend and couldn't get reservations anywhere, stumbled upon Sun Sushi and it was the best happy accident! They quickly sat our large party and were very attentive and helpful with the menu. Our server was wonderful and made the birthday boy's experience so special. On top of all that, the food was DELICIOUS. We ordered rolls, nigiri, sake, uni, baked dishes... it was all 10/10. I highly recommend!

Ordered the salmon teriyaki and this was good. But the salad it came with was very plain with too much dressing and the miso soup was bland. They were too busy to check if we needed anything else. Ambiance is okay.

Wow! Amazing sushi! Got seated without a wait on a Friday near opening time. We got a lot of nigiri and also some rolls. I especially loved the salmon 5 way and the uni was very fresh. I like the smaller rolls and portions. Very high quality fish! Would recommend and can see why it gets busy

    6 Step Salmon

We were craving sushi on our drive down to Ventura, and found Sun Sushi on Yelp. I called ahead to ask if they were busy and was quoted a 30 minute wait. However, the hostess let me put my name down over the phone, which was helpful. We were seated pretty quickly when we arrived, and the interior looked like your standard sushi restaurant - casual ambiance, minimal decor. They were packed on a Friday evening! I started with a Miso Soup (good, as expected) and the State Street Roll. The roll only had 6 pieces, but they were larger than average. It was tasty, but not particularly memorable. My partner chose the Albacore Del Roll and Crunch Roll, which were also just solid. We were still hungry after this and decided to try the 6 Step Salmon. This was a little pricey, but our favorite item! It was cool trying salmon nigiri prepared in 6 different ways, and the fish was very fresh. Service was quick and friendly!

Best sushi in town, excellent service, very fast! Highly recommend the nigiri and the hibachi beef meal as well.

First off, the staff was very friendly and always had a smile. The service was a little all over the place but not bad. We got some of the entrees before the appetizers and some rolls came out very late but overall not bad. I had the nigiri 10 piece sushi and it was delicious. Fresh fish and good ration of rice to fish but I will say that the pieces were a little smaller than i'm used to. This was part of the reason for my 4 star vs 5 star. At this price you definitely want a bit more and a tad more flavor. I know several places that are as good for half the price, that's the only reason i can't give it a 5 but still very good quality! Side note, they did give me toro and uni which both on their own are pricey so I do recognize this. The jalapeno popper were really good and a different take on the classic, with tuna inside instead of bacon wrapped. Really surprised and enjoyed. Overall I had a lovely time here and would recommend people stop by and try the delicious food but be prepared to pay SB prices. A little small but never felt like the space was tight and the people were very acommodating and kind.

my girlfriend and i came in for dinner around 7:30pm on a saturday, busy night so we waited for about 25 minutes before getting a table we got the gyoza, orion beer, red dragon, salmon delight, and spicy scallop roll gyoza: perfectly crispy on the outside(all sides) , filling was some vegetable and pork? loved the vinegar soy sauce served, would get again 100% again. 10/10 red dragon: crispy tempura adds a nice texture to the roll, sauce is savory and a bit sweet and pairs extremely well with the tuna, 9/10 salmon delight good salmon and jalapeno added a nice crunch to the bite, avacado is appreciated but i think there is TOO much fattiness along with the fatty salmon, overall everything tasted very similar and there was no distinguishing the different components 7/10 scallop roll: very simple and as expected, scallops are plump and pairs nice with the spicy mayo sauce: 8/10 service was attentive and they constantly cleared plates and checked on us, also gave us a great beer recommendation to share

    Hot Sake

Craved sushi for a Saturday night out. Great little hole in the wall. We sat at the bar and service was great. We got hot sake and takoyaki to start our dinner. The girls working there were also kind.

    State Street Roll

Got here on a Tuesday at about 6 and it was already packed! Glad we made a ressie, so we were seated right away. I kinda like sitting at the sushi bar so we can order and get our food faster. It was delicious! Started with some miso soup and Japanese salad (or as they call it in Japan, just "salad"), which was part of my 6-Step-Salmon order coming later. Since it's fairly cold up here in early December (up here for our 1st wedding anniversary), some hot miso was so perfect. The 6 step salmon is an impressive dish. 3 types of salmon made for subtle differences in flavor. A bit of sushi rice on one of the steps ties it up nicely. Then came the next 3 rolls, State Street, scallop, and crispy rice spicy tuna. All were excellent, especially the State Street and crispy rice spicy tuna. My wife thought the scallop roll had too much mayo, but I liked it. Raw scallops, on their own, have a bit of sweetness to them anyway. Our chef in front of us recommended a good, easy Japanese beer called Orion, which paired well with the food. Nice and easy, low alcohol content at 5%, and it was a big 22 oz bottle, so 2 pints worth. Good with the spicy tuna We were still a bit hungry and had to finish the rest of the beer, so we ordered another roll, the Red Dragon roll. I think this one might have been my favorite Ok that's it for the review. Now time to do my wife. lol

    Lemon pepper salmon nigiri
    Natalie G.

This is hands down my favorite casual sushi spot in Santa Barbara. I love coming to the restaurant but it's also a great place to grab takeout too. I always start with the crispy tuna rice! I also love the Crunch Roll and the Salmon 6 Step (six pieces of salmon nigiri, each with a different topping or flavor). It's super fun to try them all and they're always fresh. The lemon pepper salmon nigiri is another favorite - simple but so good. I also usually get the Dragon Roll or Red Dragon Roll, depending on what I'm in the mood for, and both are super tasty. Their unagi bowl is also amazing! If you're looking for quality sushi in a chill setting, this place is it.

Hello. We don’t have Ayce . We take reservations! Thank u😄

Do you have a gluten free menu?

Most sushi restaurants are by nature primarily GF, although you may want to bring your own GF Tamari or coconut aminos to replace the soy sauce.

I can't find a mixed selection of sushi, nigiri or sashimi on the menu. Is there a mixed box for lunch? I would like a selection...but just for 1 person.

    Yes... sushi...

When is the freshest and best time and day to eat at Sushi Sun. Are you buying at the Harbor on Saturdays? The reason I ask is because we will have visitors from Japan and they are particular, more than us Americans. Arigato.

Hi, actually we order fish everyday. We don't buy fish from harbor. We only have Uni from local.

Is there all you can eat sushi here?

    Nope!

The vibe was classy and trendy but still lively. Such a pretty spot! The four of us shared a bunch of things. The Everybody Loves Raymond was my favorite roll. It had these little cubes of tuna on top that were almost like a mini poke bowl. SO good! The Crouching Tiger was another favorite. The rainbow and spicy tuna rolls were good too, just more classic. The crispy tuna nigiri was my favorite appetizer. Super fresh with perfectly crispy rice. We also loved the firecracker rock shrimp, which was light and crispy without being oily. We got the sauce on the side so the spice was totally manageable. But the GARLIC NOODLES!! Easily some of the best I've ever had. Buttery, garlicky, creamy and everyone at the table agreed they were amazing. The shrimp fried rice was great too, and they were able to make it non-spicy for us. We obviously did not have room for dessert, so we ordered it anyway The French vanilla crème brûlée was delicious, the green tea mochi was good once I got past the texture since it was my first mochi experience lol, and my sister said the tiramisu was the best she's ever had! Service slowed down a little after our entrées came out, but they were also extremely busy. Great food, gorgeous water views and such a fun dinner. I would absolutely come back. And I'm not sharing the garlic noodles next time.

Aside from a larger table of ~10 people and 2 smaller tables, the place was empty, which was nice and quiet for date night and anniversary celebration. The 9-course Kaiseki was plate after plate of flavor. Highlights: - Course 4: Somen with sweet broth, grilled beef, and grilled green onion. THIS. The beef was so good, I refused to swallow, so I could savor the flavor. Fatty in flavor. Lean in cut. Somen cooked to perfection. - Course 7: Chilean sea bass simmered in bonito chicken broth with daikon and green beans ~ THE SEA BASS WAS GAS. Marinated in miso before grilling, the tenderness and juiciness of the sea bass is locked in prior to simmering in the broth. Chicken broth with the bonito added depth to the dish. - Course 9: Black sesame pudding with tangerine jelly ~ THIS. This dish embodied the level of black sesame I expect for any dish. Tangerine jelly cuts through as a nice refresher for the next bite. Perfectly not too sweet. All in all, I had the best experience. We were drawn in by the happy hour specials, which were advertised until 7:30 p.m. We arrived at 7:15 p.m. and ordered a couple of appetizers from the happy hour menu, along with miso soup and sushi rolls. At the time, we were the only two customers seated in the dimly lit dining room. As soon as our appetizers arrived, gnats began swarming our table. One landed on my water glass, and another ended up in our soy sauce. After dealing with a couple of them, we felt rushed to finish our meal before more appeared, which made for a very unpleasant dining experience. The food itself was decent, but nothing memorable. The miso soup could have been served hotter, though I did appreciate that it wasn't overly salty. Our server was friendly, attentive, and our food arrived promptly. One aspect that made the experience uncomfortable was that the four staff members stood nearby watching us eat, which gave the impression they were waiting for us to finish and leave. Finally, despite ordering multiple happy hour appetizers before the advertised cutoff time, only one item was discounted at the happy hour price. Overall, the service was good, but the insect issue, uncomfortable atmosphere, and pricing left us disappointed. Unfortunately, this isn't a restaurant we'll be returning to.

After visiting the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center, we serendipitously came across the Santa Barbara Shellfish Company. We started off with their Cup Chowder, which there were nice bits of bacon in their creamy clam chowder. We also ordered the SB Shrimp Cocktail and half dozen of oysters. All the appetizers were solid. The star of the show was definitely the main course. We ordered the Lobster Roll, Uni, and the Rock Crab Special. My favorite was the Rock Crab Special. The meat was sweet and tender. Another favorite was the Uni, which I believe this place is known for. The uni was very fresh and served on 6 raw scallop and lime wheels. Because this dish was an absolute showstopper, other diners actually stopped by our table to ask if we recommended ordering it--and, of course, our answer was a definitive yes! It was so beautifully presented and just as delicious as it looked. The Lobster Roll was good but it didn't stand out as the other two dishes. It was packed with Maine lobster tossed with celery, capers, chives, mayo and butter in a toasted hoagie roll. It was served with coleslaw and nicely battered onion rings. What really made this dining experience so memorable was the beautiful ocean view. We had just the right amount of sunshine, a cool breeze, and great food to top it all off. It really doesn't get much better than that!

Perfect for a lunch out after the zoo or other family activities in the area. Casual and family friendly inside. Although I have to mention the bathroom did not have a baby changing station.

My friends and I were excited to get some ramen. Was pleasantly surprised to see their menu also…read morehad sushi, pho etc. There was also confusion with our food. We ordered a papaya salad and they brought out a different one with chicken. They were quick to correct it once they realized the mistake. Some dishes came with an egg when the menu didn't include it. The papaya salad and spicy edamame were good (the sauce was more sweet). One friend got a veggie miso ramen which looked and tasted like regular noodles with interesting vegetables. The miso ramen looked the same minus the veggies. Another got a honey boba with their dinner which left them feeling disappointed. I got the black garlic tonkotsu ramen which was good. Their spicy level wasn't spicy. I got a mild just in case and one of the servers overheard me & brought more chilli on the side. I didn't find it spicy but that may have been because it was really fatty dish.

The two young staff members were super friendly too. I got a little bit of everything: ahi poke, salmon poke, crab, candied salmon, oysters and of course the sea urchin. Everything was really good, but the sea urchin was seriously on another level. I've had uni at a lot of different places, and this is hands down the best I've had so far. Totally worth the $22 each My husband and I literally couldn't stop thinking about it after we left, so we decided to bring our family back next weekend so they can try it too. I just wish they had clam chowder because I'm a huge fan lol. But maybe there's a reason they don't make it and just want to focus on what they do best. And honestly, I can't complain because the uni was that good! P.S. I forgot to mention they also have treats and meal toppers for dogs! I bought a bag of wild salmon for my dog, and he absolutely loves it. I guess he'll be getting something from here every time we stop by now
