We had a little walk to the fair, but I'm good for walking. All the animals were up close and personal, and so much more accessible than at the state fair. There were tons of food vendors and all the food you want at a county fair. We ended up eating at the clover cafe, because it was air conditioned and indoors, but the food there was meh. But cheap! $5.75 for a 1/3 lb cheeseburger! But it wasn't very well seasoned, and the "fried onions" on it definitely needed a little more cooking done to merit the "fried" part. Hot dog was only $4, and it was similar to the Costco hot dog. So would I eat here again? No, I'll spend the $14 to get a burger from a vendor just across the street in the fair, unless I'm with older friends who need air conditioning. For $3, you can get a cup of animal feed to pet some goats and llama and lambs, etc. For $10, there is a camel ride, but it will only take you twice around a small area (it's over in under 5 minutes). Pony rides for kids merry-go-round style also available. I had fun just watching other people enjoying the rides, while rubbing pig noses and feeding baby goats. We came in the morning, but wish I had stayed for the evening shows and music. Definitely planning another year!

It looked like mostly families enjoying the sunshine and the ability to go to an outdoor event. Great for the person that wants to experience a fair but not be overwhelmed; however, I would suggest attending during the day on weekdays to avoid a potentially large crowd. It really isn't anything spectacular, except that it is one of the last free fairs in Wisconsin. I do hope it remains that way in years to come.

A secluded county park not too many folks know about Yahr park is a nice place to take your family…read moreswimming or drop a fishing line. The park offers tiered parking and we always choose the closest possible Parking as there have been car break ins that occurred in the farthest lost when we've been here. Hopefully an isolated event! The lake has a clean spacious beach area with two shaded benches and lots of picnic tables to store your belongings or hold a bbq while the kids swim. There is a fishing pier and the lake hosts a lot of canoeing and kayaking. There also is a nearby upgraded playground with bathrooms. Located between West Bend and Fredonia your bound to run into neighbors or friends here if your from either area!

The layout inside is perfect too as you can see your little one from pretty much any part of the room. There are two areas set off to the side of the large room that the really tiny kids can play. All of their toys and equipment were in good shape. Our little ones really had a good time and asked to come back.

Overall, it's a beautiful, quiet place for nature, reflection, and lake views, and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

For my 100th review I want to tell you about one of my favorite places ever. I am a little biased…read morebecause I have been swimming in Big Cedar since I was a baby, but this place is the shit. 45 minutes north of Milwaukee, this isn't a quiet Northern Wisconsin lake, this is a big, busy, loved lake. A few short weeks from now, the piers and boats will be out and fall colors will be in full swing. On a clear calm day the lake will reflect the tree's colors and the water will be smooth, this is the perfect time for a canoe ride. You could come out here on a frigid January day when the trees are bare and the lake is frozen. The ice fishers will be out with their trucks and shanties huddled around the good spots, fishing their hearts out. Months later spring's progress will be obvious by the slowly melting ice and the buds on the trees. Piers will go in but the lake will still be quiet until Memorial Day when summer at the lake officially starts. Then the water will be choppy with boat wakes and the smell of bbq will be in the air. The CL Yacht has fireworks on the 4th of July and the that night the bay is full of boats of spectators, on the boat ride home the firework fans on the lake shoot off aftershows from their piers. Most busy weekend afternoons in the summer the shallow sandy area on the east side of the lake is full of boats and swimmers playing frisbee, football, and soaking in the sun. Many of the cottage and lake home owners are from Milwaukee or Chicago but there are enough full time residents for you to notice their presence in the off-season. There are several boat ramps on both the east and west sides of the lake. At this point there are four restaurant/bars on the lake: Timmers, Padways, House of Heileman's and Old Cedar Inn. Most days the best plan is a cocktail cruise on the lake and a grill out. In general people keep to themselves but we are Midwest friendly and if you boat runs out of gas (or you can't figure out where neutral is) it isn't hard to find someone to tow you and your boat home. Stop by Big Cedar for a swim, a boat ride, a sunset, or a drink and fish fry at Timmers; chances are you'll come back again soon.
