The universe is a large and careless place, but occasionally it tilts in your favor. On a hot afternoon in Denver, it decided to give us ice cream instead of what we actually asked for. A handful of us had broken out of our convention to hunt down coffee sturdy enough to sustain human consciousness through five more hours of guest speakers and debate. The coffee shop we had targeted near the corner of 16th and Glenarm was completely dark. Closed. There are few sights more pathetic than a small crowd of tired adults staring through a locked glass door at an inactive espresso machine. We turned around to walk back to the convention center, thoroughly defeated, when we noticed a sign in a window we were shuffling past: Download our app, get a free scoop of ice cream. We are neither rich nor proud people. Within ninety seconds, all seven of us were installing the app and walking into Sundae Artisan Ice Cream. It turns out this is their new flagship location, and someone put a great deal of thought into it. Right in the center of the shop is a massive, glass-walled production kitchen where you can watch the crew mix, churn, and swirl the ice cream from scratch. It looks like an incredibly clean, happy laboratory. They also have a street-facing window they call the "Waffle Cone Theater," which fills the entire sidewalk with the smell of baking waffle batter. Even though we descended on them like a sudden, desperate swarm of convention-goers armed with brand-new digital coupons, the staff didn't even blink. The shop features two complete service lines, which is a genuine mercy when seven people hit the counter at the exact same moment. They processed us in minutes, remaining remarkably patient while enthusiasticaly providing free samples. Three of my coworkers ordered the Espresso flavor. It was rich, smooth, and intensely concentrated. It wasn't a hot beverage, but it did the trick. The failed coffee run ended up delivering excellent coffee anyway. I paid a little extra to turn my freebie into a double scoop: one Chai, one Caramel Banana Bread. The Chai was excellent, warmly spiced and sharp, not just sugary. But the Caramel Banana Bread was a minor miracle. It tasted less like an artificial flavor and more like a real, warm loaf of homemade banana bread had been gently coaxed into a state of deep freeze without losing its dignity. The menu has plenty of other things that look dangerous to a waistline: elaborate sundaes, thick milkshakes, and homemade waffle bowls. If our convention had gone on for another three days, I would have been forced to return multiple times for the sake of thorough scientific research. Human beings spend a lot of time making elaborate plans, only for those plans to fall apart. But if a closed coffee shop is what it takes to get pushed into a place like Sundae, then long live minor disappointments. I would happily make the exact same mistake tomorrow. read more

We happened upon this spot on a day where if you downloaded their app, you could get a free small scoop of ice cream. Once I downloaded the app, I went with a scoop of their strawberry in a small cone with chocolate sprinkles. Overall, ice cream was tasty, but really really subtle. They seemed to have a crazy (in a good way) amount of cone options which were very exciting to me, but I ended up with a small basic cone, but even that one was great! read more

i feel like most of the ice cream spots nearby just get the job done. they each have one standout item at most and nothing to write home about. sundae FINALLY gives us something to be excited about. the space is big and bright, sitting right on 16th street in the heart of the city. parking isn't ideal but that goes for anything in the area. they have a TON of flavors including vegan options. i tried the salted cookies & cream, cheesecake, espresso, and strawberry. all were fabulous but salted cookies & cream was my winner. texture was phenomenal across the board, super creamy. they have flights, sundaes, and even do topping mix-ins on a cold slab. you could get very creative here! service was SO on top of it. every person behind the counter was super attentive, patient, helpful, kind, and so on. i don't make it downtown often but will absolutely make the trip for this! mainly because now i need to try all of these flavors. big fan. read more

Sooo good. This place os a great addition to 16th Street here in Denver. Great flavors, customer service, and atmosphere. I opted for just cheesecake ice cream instead of the chocolate and vanilla ice cream that was supposed to come with my caramel brownie sundae. It was a very good choice. A brand new ice cream shop with so many flavor options. They have a topping bar and cold slab where they're mix in your toppings! I love that they make their own waffle cones and bowls--yum! I decided on the regular serving (2 scoops) in a waffle bowl. My first scoop was the orange honey seasonal flavor. The flavor was nice and wasn't overpowering. It also had chunks of honeycomb. It was delicious. My second scoop was the sweet cream. It was perfect with the other ice cream and made a nice balance. The ice cream was nice and creamy. A must try! read more

dropped in on opening day yesterday!! very welcoming staff. Still a few kinks for the employees to work out with allergen knowledge but overall great experience. Had the "elk prints" which allergen guide said was gluten free - sweet cream ice cream, Reese's pieces, choco chips, peanut butter swirls. Hubs went will the salty cookies and cream.
