This place is beautiful and the staff are so helpful. The horses are so happy and well fed. We stayed for 2 days. It was so relaxing and love being outdoors with the horses. This place was HORRIBLE!! First, we spoke to one of their reps a number of times in the two months before going, and, to make a long, terrible story short, we found out upon arrival that we had been COMPLETELY MISLED. We had booked an entire month to stay here for $125, that we'd have to pay $125 per month for a year (a contract) and then would be allowed to stay there 4 months out of the year. (So $2000 for the year or $500 per monthly stay, which didn't sound too bad to us, given how they described the site and what it offered.) However, upon arrival we were quickly disabused of our previous FALSE information. The caretaker of the property, named John--a very pushy and curt guy--first explained, just minutes after arrival, that we would HAVE to take a tour of the place (with him) and then decide if we wanted to join a very expensive 1-, 3-, or 5-year CONTRACT, that could NEVER be cancelled for ANY reason. And the kicker? If we didn't decide to join, we had essentially 24 hours to vacate the property!! (Out by 12pm the very next day.) Please just imagine how livid and disappointed we were, who had been told we had a 30-day reservation for $125! Even though I was getting over pneumonia and was really looking forward to 4 weeks of R & R, and my wife was extremely tired and needed to rest, we pulled ourselves together and did the only thing we could: prepare to leave the next day and NEVER AGAIN return to this over-priced, dilapidated "dude ranch"--where there's apparently only one "dude"--the caretaker, John. You see, we arrived on a Saturday at the end of May and we were the ONLY guests staying there at the time, at least in the campground area. And we did NOT like what we saw: dilapidation most everywhere. There were a few nicer outbuildings, which didn't really concern us RV campers, But most everywhere we looked we saw things unkempt, run down, and just looking broken. For example--and this is a big one for RVers--all of the pedestals looked 20-30 or more years old. Some of them clearly not working at all. Our own pedestal had two BROKEN 30-amp outlets. One absolutely couldn't be used and was an obvious hazard, the other was broken partly, and our plug was quite loose--and never should have been used. I told John, the caretaker, that both of "my" outlets needed to be replaced. He told me that the one that was partially broken and loose "would be just fine and wouldn't present any problems." Even though I heard arcing/buzzing when I plugged it in! He eventually admitted to us that ALL of the pedestals were long over-due for upgrades. This place has been open for many years but apparently they're not all that interested in upgrades, even to critical--and dangerous--equipment. Btw, if you go on their Facebook page and look at the many pics, notice that are NO pics of the camping area (where it's so run down) except for a POSED image where you see a couple of horses right next to the caretakers own RV! I believe this is deliberate on their part b/c they don't want you to see the very old and broken down pedestals, the ubiquitous holes and mounds created by ground squirrels, the dry, weedy ground (and NOT green grass as we were told and a few of the pics suggest), nor do they want you to see the caretaker's medium-sized dog running amok and unleashed through the property. (We thus didn't take our little Yorkie out for a walk.) Finally, I must say a word about the 2-mile dirt entrance road into the ranch area. (Btw, this is absolutely not a working ranch! It does have several horses which can only be ridden on the weekends, and non-campers can bring their own horses to ride, but just don't expect a working ranch.) Now back to the 2-mile long entrance road: it is nothing but a hard washboard that will shake your vehicle or RV so badly you'll swear it's coming apart at the seams. It is a road from hell for RVs and trailers. I drove the slowest speed humanly possible and still my rig rattled like we were experiencing a 5.0 earthquake. We were never so happy to get out of there, and we'll most certainly not be going back. The only nice things that I feel compelled to describe are that it apparently does have a small, nice and clean pool, and it offers spaces to enjoy archery, basketball, tennis, very limited catch-and-release fishing, and of course horseback riding for young and old. Moreover, the lodge was a very clean and well-kept; it seemed rather new. It also had new (but apparently empty) bunkhouses. (On this particular Saturday in late May, we did not see another soul except for the caretaker.) But, as I've described, the camping area leaves a GREAT DEAL to be desired. Even if they were offering a great deal on memberships, we would never join b/c of the dilapidated condition of the campground. The site definitely has great potential. I just can't give anything but a 5 star review! Yes, the ranch does have improvements to be made, but I bought into it as it stands with no expectations. We became members three months ago and have been there several times since. I checked out every nook and cranny before we signed as well as reviews. I made sure the horses were healthy and it makes me so mad that some reviewers said the horses were either mistreated or starving! I have a background in horses and know what to look for. There are a few horses who are thin. These horses are super old!! When you look at the ranch, take an overall look at the horses. Every healthy horse is in great shape and clean. The older thinner horses are what they are, just old and hard to maintain. There isnt much to be done but love and care for them! I watched their old retired stallion get up from playing in a mud puddle and within 5 minutes he was getting a bath! The staff is on point with the horses. As far as the facility is concerned, dont expect an rv resort. It is a working ranch and looks like it. The buildings are all very clean inside and bug free. Showers are hot and everything works. Yes, I flushed every toilet, used every sink and amenity available to us. The playground has a lot of complaints, sadly. We love it! Old school metal equipment with a little rust, huge swings, and an old splinter filled fort. I grew up with equipment like this and it teaches you to be aware of your environment. Life lessons! If you are worried about tetanus, splinters, and maybe a scuff on the knee, then take your children to those padded indoor places... my kids love the playground and bug me until I let them go. They havent been hurt once. The bunkhouse is great! We haven't spent the night yet but we hang out in the building and pick up a game or two. Pool is clean, not heated. No hot tub. This is my only beef with sundance meadows! Where is mommas hot tub!? We also store here which saves us money!! Between free storage, the horses, free camping, and all the other amenities, the price is right for us. We love the ranch! read more

The only beautiful thing about this place was the horses and how amazing the outside looks. This place is run down. You don't feel appreciated or welcome here. People are very rudely. This place wasn't clean at all. That water that has mold on it... that's where the horses drink water. Please treat your guest with love and respect. DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE! This place is so creepy. This guy who walks around the property will come around and just watch your every move and bring other people to watch us as well. Very uncomfortable being here. We've had our membership for more than 10 years now, the first 5 years it was great Mr. Patrick made sure that all guests were welcome and held all members and site staff accountable. He is no longer the person in charge and his successors have shown to be irresponsible, prejudiced and outright rude. Our leashed dog was attacked by a ranch dog, our guests have been made to feel unwelcome by the "staff" (people living for free on the ranch) and Jean has been rude on multiple occasions. The place has potential, but unfortunately the new leadership shows poor hospitality, zero customer service skills, highly prejudiced and lacks structure. The facilities are great for relaxing, but the staff just doesn't measure up. I do not recommend you buying a membership here. read more

We were just passing through the area and this RV site showed up on our national membership. Waze took me to a street just before the place and was a little frustrating finding it. Once we got to the right street it was a challenge to get to the office on a winding and slightly dangerous hill of sand that one could easily get stuck on (it must be treacherous during the rainy season). The office is unmarked and the person in charge did not even have my reservation as the normal person didn't do her job. I had to locate the reservation on my laptop and take a snapshot to prove I had a reservation. They don't have Wi-Fi and fortunately I had a hot spot box. The place is very pretty with a horse ranch next door. Because of that there are a lot of flies, so we had to eat indoors to avoid the bugs. We didn't bother using their bathrooms as we are self-contained. We did read the facilities were pretty old. I am trying to be positive, but I probably wouldn't come back again. On 11/24/21, about a mile from the CG we had an accident in our 5th wheel. I called the manager there to tell her we would be coming in after 4pm would that be ok, she was very rude & said NO. She never asked if we were ok. Luckily we had help from many people & got our RV to a spot after dark. Had no idea where to go, the dirt road going to the CG is awful. I called a couple times with questions while there, the manager was always rude & uncaring. We got our truck fixed so left a couple days early because of the managers attitude. We got stuck going up the hilly dirt road had a friend come to pull us out with his truck. The manager drove by, my husband told her what happened when she drove by again she was rude & offered no help in our situation. She just drove on. A worker from the CG drove by & offered help, but our friend had already arrived, The workers we met were helpful. The manager never even called us to make sure we were okay. We didn't get her name. We will never stay there again because of her attitude. Sundance Meadows needs to have another manager who treats the campers better. My family just spent the weekend at this 500 acre campground. I didn't know places like this still existed in so cal. There are about 30 head of horses surrounded the campground. None are in small pens, they are all in pastures. Some are even ran in every weekend from the herd. The horses are so gorgeous and well taken care of. The campground is all under shade trees and is watered to be kept green. When it is too hot to ride you can jump in the pool. Very clean and refreshing. All the buildings look brand new. New paint and were super clean. We are so happy we found this place. We had s'mores at night and listened to coyotes howl. None of us were on our cell phones and we really bonded as a family. We can't wait to continue to make this a monthly habit. It is so affordable and the perfect place to go for time outdoors. read more

We have been owners for over 25 years. We finally started storing our Trailer there. We had one attempted break in before they finally broke in and the facility with a live on premises grounds keeper and security took 3 days to advise us that they broke in our trailer and stole our Razor. The noise must have been pretty loud for them not to have noticed. The fact that they are roaming the ground every day and say they didn't notice is hard for us to believe. Unfortunately the buildings have all aged just as I have, and like others have said, none of the money they keep taking from us ever goes back into upkeep or improvement. Years ago they lost access to the lake, their primary "selling point" for fishing enthusiasts or just as a good location to take out the horses. That right there should be considered enough of a breach of contract that they require you to pay every year for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, but no, they insist the ONLY way out of the contract is to find someone else stupid and /or bad at googling enough to take over the LIFETIME PAYMENTS for you, and even then, you have to pay $1000 PER PERSON/CONTRACT to transfer to the unwitting schmuck. We live in the PNW now. We will NEVER go back there because it's 1000 miles away, but still we're "contracted" to pay $1000 every year FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. I'm not one to type in all caps usually, but this situation requires it. SUNDANCE MEADOWS, JUST AS ALL "LIFETIME CONTRACT TIMESHARES," ARE CORRUPT AS HELL. We bought in to Vail Lake/Sundance Meadows in 2000. We had several years of lake access and loved every minute of it. They had very big plans at that time for the resort. They never materialize. Lawsuits, business disputes it was messy. My kids loved sundance meadows, camp fires, animals, the pond. We made alot of great friends. However, Nothing has changed in 22 years. It was old when we bought in and it is older now. If you are looking for a place to pull up and camp in your RV ( roughing it) it is great. Very rural and you feel woodsy. However, the staff have always been rough and rude. The facilities are very run down, improvements are not made. Never have been never will be. read more

We were members for over a decade. The first five years of our membership we had access to Vail Lake and enjoyed using it for waterskiing. After a big lawsuit with the owner of Vail Lake Resort, Sundance Meadows members lost their access to the lake. Although we had paid cash for our membership, Sundance Meadows continued to bill us a maintenance fee and assured us that we would eventually have access to Vail Lake again. That was several years ago now and now we do not hear anything about it anymore. In fact, the current staff doesn't even seem to know we ever had access to the lake at all. We tried camping at their facility a few times but everything was so run down we eventually just gave up and drove up to use the lake for the day. They did offer us free storage for our boat as a part of the membership, which was one reason we didn't cancel sooner. However, we experienced multiple thefts of wakeboards and life vests and other items out of our boat during the time it was stored there. Eventually, our $3,000 wakeboard tower was literally unbolted from our boat and stolen. That was the last straw and we tried to cancel our membership. That's when we discovered the membership cannot be cancelled but needs to be sold by us... even though we had paid for it in cash from the beginning and were just paying a maintenance fee. My sister in law has a timeshare here. The downside from what she says is that they pay a lot of money annually and it doesn't look like much is happening upkeep wise. Once you buy in, you have to pay until you die or get a lawyer so think carefully. There's a lot of improvements that need to be done and the buildings need refurbishment. On the plus side, unless you come here for the 4th of July or on Halloween the place is completely quiet and peaceful. We're used to the crowds at the beach at Carlsbad and we love the relaxation and solitude here. The horseshoe shaped pond has plenty of ducks and fish (catch and release only). You can ride horses and pet the goats. They have chickens (and a rooster that will crow and wake you up early). We have a pop up trailer without a bathroom but there's a clean restroom with toilets and showers across a field. There's a fire ring and plenty of bright skies for stars at night. There's a kids playground with sand and the kind of old equipment so you can get hurt which we love. I can imagine that summers here would be incredibly hot and we were here in November when there were very strong Santa Ana winds which broke one of out tents. Coyotes came through at night and left scat behind. Overall, we recommend this place! read more

My husband and I chose to stay at the ranch here due to a wedding happening nearby we were going to attend (20 min drive to a major winery is good in my book). This is not an rv resort, but more of an rv park "ranch style". Overall this place is maintained pretty well but do not expect to find this to be a 5 star resort. It was calming to wake up with very few neighbors nearby so it's always peaceful and quiet, only to open up your windows to see rolling hills and gorgeous horses running in the nearby fields. In which, all of the horses are cared for well you can see. A neighbor who's been to that resort for years patrols the park for security was very friendly and let us know the rules of our stay, but also informed us Sundance is considered a "dude ranch". Members come often and ride horses as often as they like, but also partake in the events such as fishing, horseshoes, swimming in the pool or attending at the clubhouse. We loved our stay in peace, quiet and absolute beauty. The only part that was not my favorite was the drive in. While on sage keep your eyes peeled for the sundance meadows sign that will come up quick but very hard to see at night, the road will take you about 2 miles in until you reach the park and MAKE SURE you have 4WD on while towing/driving an RV and driving in. There is one hill as soon as you enter that is extremely steep and on soft dirt. We were in with no problems, but I was a little terrified when my husbands big truck started to struggle in the sand-like terrain. The only reasons I took time to write this review, is to let others know of the drive in so they are safe but also to let others know how beautiful and peaceful of a time you can have here vacationing on a farm. read more

I don't know if I want to tell everyone about this place because I don't know if I want everyone to come out to "the ranch." I love that the atmosphere is family oriented. Kiddos can be found riding bikes and horses at sunset. Families gather around campfires. The staff teach kids the lessons of taking care of animals and hard work. Horses are beautiful, they even rescue horses that are near death and give them a second. Hiking trails galore, biking too. All grass campground with huge trees and shade. We hadn't been there 10 mins and this very rude staff member came up to us with his hand on his gun and flashing a badge threatened a $50 fine because our tag that you receive at the front desk had fallen from my windshield to our dashboard and he couldn't see it. Some long time members and owners took my husband and I under their wing and treated us like family immediately! Our $6500 membership was paid for in cash in 1998. At the time, we had "rights" to use Vail Lake. Our dues were ALWAYS up to date unless the mail was slow. Through corruptive business practices, the lake rights were revoked. The proof is documented with Riverside County Superior Court. There was a time when, although rustic, (which we liked), the Ranch was green with the pond fully stocked and clean. There was a complete staff to care for the horses and maintain the grounds. Many of us complained of unkempt bathrooms and of the grounds being outdated with possible safety issues. Our voices were not welcome or appreciated and they ordered us off the property when we mentioned the health department. We refused to go. We felt harassed from then on. Fast forward to 2020. There are no longer any ranch hands, however, there is a camp host named Jon who carries and intimidates campers and guests with his handgun. You can read about him in previous reviews. There is a leash rule for all dogs with the exception of the owner's dogs. The owner's dog often entered our rig to eat our dog's food but they sent violations to us if our dog was off leash and nearby. The ranch now appears to be run/managed by Jean and Helen. Other parties have passed on. Over two years ago while visiting the ranch with three other families, we again experienced confrontation from Jon (with his hand on his gun) regarding our guest's campsite, wanting them to move their rig. He then harassed our young grandchildren at the pool when they entered the gate prior to my husband's arrival. My husband was perhaps 200 feet behind them. Jon literally blocked my husband from entering the pool after the children entered, thus separating them. The entire episode resulted in the owner's son driving a tractor to the campground to haul off our rig as well as revocation of our membership after 22 years. The police were called and reports were taken. It was a two-year process with the courts as Jon accused my husband of scratching the top of his hand which resulted in assault charges. It is my opinion that Jean (the owner) and Helen (the office manager described as 'rude' in previous reviews), have no intention of enhancing or maintaining the ranch. I personally feel they are dependent of the member's yearly dues for their livelihood while having no intention of pleasing their current members. Contracts clearly state members pay dues unless they sell or give away their memberships. Members are stuck legally. The campground is often empty with the exception of those who live there. Although the court process for assault charges was inconvenient, we are no longer in contract with Sundance Meadows. They actually did us a favor by revoking our membership. We don't need to sell it or give it away to some unsuspecting buyer and we save $500 a year in dues. We and our children have fond memories of our early years camping there. My kids had the benefit of ranch style living and camping all in one! the ranch hands always include the children in activities and you can find chickens, baby pigs and it is free of party crowds and nonsense. the staff is super friendly and they make you feel like part of the family! read more

We received a "free weekend" at Sundance Meadows from the San Diego County Fair last year and then scheduled a trip up last weekend. We decided to stay in the bunk house because we had small children. They scheduled us for a "tour" at a certain time but since we travelled from San Diego we were running late. So when we finally got there the staff was very rude and unwelcoming. We apologized for being late but that was obviously not good enough for them. Our group had to be broken up into 2 groups to tour and I went in the latter group. Liz was the one touring us around and she was very rude and abrasive. She kept complaining of how we were late and that we were an inconvenience to them. Aside from that they were trying to sell us a life time membership to their ranch... which was $6500 dollars. Im sorry but this place is run down and not worth any of my hard earned money. There customer service is terrible, the staff look down at you like they are better than you. Perhaps is city vs. rural life but to me the staff were very rude and condescending. They let you ride the horses which was fun but since we were "late" they cut our ride short. The good thing about it was that the kids had fun. So thats all that really matters at the end of the day. We tried to make the best of it despite the run down amenities which claimed to be "top notch". I do not recommend anyone to buy a membership here. Don't waste your money here. At first one might think this is a neat opportunity to own a little piece of a ranch in which you can ride horses, swim, fish, camp and have a good time hanging out in the country. We bought into this "ranch" hoping to bring our own horses to ride the trails which is a feature they offer. We were told you can board up to 2 horses there for short periods yet the one time we wanted to use our "ranch" we were told we couldn't bring our horses. Apparently the person who manages the barn was out of town and there was no one else to manage the needs of the members who might be needing to use the facility. They rave of many amenities but in reality this place is run down, has poor management, and unless you bring your own camper to stay in don't bother with the "bunk house". It is disgusting. The community kitchen is so gross I wouldn't want my dogs to eat there. The stoves, refrigerators and ovens are ancient and have food stains galore. The bathrooms were barren and a little better than say some of the worst community pools. The pool itself was green and gross and had no extra furnishing to hang out by the pool. the grass around the buildings was dried up. Obviously they dont put any of the yearly dues back into the property to keep it updated and nice. These are just some of the obvious problems. We recently went to visit the "ranch" which was a year later and the office staff made us feel very unwelcome as if they needed to be defensive about something. It made me wonder if they had other complaints often and therefore were very on guard. I hate to see anyone buy into this place like we did and now we are stuck with the payments and more than likely will never use the "ranch". What the heck were we thinking!! read more

I was considering membership, but all the negative reviews made me think this place was a dilapidated mess with bugs and filth. So I decided go look for myself. First I visited the office. Clean. Then I went to the bunkhouse. As a member you can rent a room for $1 per night! Where else can you get a deal like that? The rooms each had bunk beds and a queen bed. I assume you would bring your own sleeping bags as is typical for campground rooms. There was one shelf in the room that looked a little rough, and I assume the bathrooms and showers are shared. But all smelled fresh and well scrubbed. The bathrooms and showers were in good repair. I tried one of the two showers and it came on fine. I didn't want to waste water so I can't tell you how hot it gets. There were no papers to put on the toilet seats, but that is also typical of campgrounds. The bunkhouse did not look dilapidated to me as was implied by one review. I went to the lodge as well. The laundry facilities looked like they only need 75 cents for wash and 50 cents for dry. (At least that is all you can put in the slots at once.) I made it a point to look in all the refrigerators. There were a lot of them. Some were filled with camper's food. Others were completely empty. All were cold and clean inside. There were also a few stoves--some in the bunkhouse and two in the lodge. The campground supplies used looking coffee makers and toasters. However, I could not see any pots or pans or silverware . In both the lodge and the bunkhouse were clean tables. The floor was immaculate. I did not see one bug and I was looking. Outside the bunkhouse is a fairly large swimming pool. It was perfectly clean and crystal clear which was surprising because all the trees around the pool were shedding leaves. I am not sure whether or not it was heated. The water seemed cold to the touch, but then it always does even in heated pools. There are chairs and chase lounges around the pool, and one sheltered area to sit. There are no restrictions on how late or early you can use the pool. They just do not want you to be too noisy at night. There is also a playground for the kids. This playground is the old fashioned kind with high swings, a merry-go-round, two metal jungle gyms, large tires to climb on, and a short metal slide. On the ground is plenty of soft sand. Farther along, there seem to be two small airplanes. I am not sure who owns them. There are some charcoal grills in various places. Each campsite has water and electricity. There is a separate dump station. Lastly, I visited the barn. There I saw chickens, goats, and a pig. They keep the saddles and bridles in the barn, and seem to have barrels of what is probably feed. Horses are grazing in various parts of the farm. While looking around, I didn't see one TV. A lot of campgrounds have movies and such and have a place for kids or adults to watch TV. This campground had a quiet room instead. It made me think they want their campground to be a good place to get away from the noise of life. I didn't ask about the internet. I did have phone reception with Boost, although my friend who had T-Mobile could not get any reception. As a member, you are allowed to store one vehicle for free, which is a nice feature. Currently, the dues are $500 per year and you can stay 30 days every 90 days. No reservations are required, but there is a gate code you need to know before you go as they keep it changing. I didn't find the staff rude, but they kept a tight reign on the rules. When I asked a cleaning person if I could see inside one of the bunkhouse rooms, she said she had to get permission first. There was no one in any of the rooms that we could tell. We just went around and looked in the windows. I don't know why she would not open a door for us for us to look inside. So maybe it is true that some things are a little strange. The campground is located in an isolated place that looks like desert with hills all around. If you want to get away to a quiet place to enjoy your family, see the stars, or just be alone, this is the place for you. read more

We Joined Sundance in the 80's. The salesman we had was Vic. He was awesome, friendly, welling to work with us on payments for the price. We visited the ranch almost every weekend. Helped saddle the horses and joined in on every rodeo and event they had. The ranch was beautiful and green. The horse wrangler let us herd in the horses in the morning for him and saddle them for people to ride. The kids were so happy to be there and take part of everything except our 16 year old son. He lived in the pool and jacuzzi when there. Vic would always stop by and visit our fire. Pat was also down to earth as well. We even bought a horse from Pat, Leon was the horses name. We owned him for only 1 week before he was taken from us and we were told Leon should not have been for sale. THEN a visitor got lost on a horse and Vic took his plane up with the girls sister to find her. Vic hit an air pocket and his plane went down. Killing Vic and his passenger.. Once Vic was gone they told us we had to stop making payments and come up with the balance or leave. We had to file bankrupt against them to stop them from harassing us for fees and membership. Even though they wouldnt let us use the ranch anymore. Should say we never missed a payment Vic layed out for us. He did that to several of families. Vic was part owner through marriage. I miss the ranch and Whisky, Leon, Susie, Ghost, Floyd, and many more of the horses. Looking at google earth the place is run down badly and looks empty. Its too bad they didnt keep the place up. Do NOT join this. I have been paying dues for literally decades and they won't let me end my membership even though I never go there. I live out of state and am disabled and on a very limited income. Apparently, I have to pay until I die. I do not want to "sell" my membership and pass on that obligation to anyone. read more

We were owners at Sundance Meadows for almost two decades. It is the most wonderful place in the world for families. We raised four daughters, and a huge part of our lives was spent at Sundance Meadows. The family who owns SM was always wonderful to us, and we still keep in touch with one of the staff members. I'd give SM 5 stars, but I do recognize that the facilities are, well, rustic. That may bother some people, but we didn't mind. Our attitude was, "It's a *ranch* not a *resort.*" The carefree hours where our girls could run and play and and ride are priceless. We paid full price for our membership and feel that not one penny was wasted. Unlike a timeshare, you can go to SM anytime, literally 365 days a year. (There are some reasonable restrictions on overnights in either the bunkhouse or the RV area; this prevents people *living* at the ranch.) I wish I could capture for you the bonding that took place for our family because of our membership at Sundance Meadows. As I said, our membership there was priceless. read more

I recently visited this place as a guest and was so excited. That ended very quickly! The day we arrived, the kids were playing on a tree swing with a seat, having so much fun. John a "staff" member who walks around with a gun for whatever reason decided to walk over and cut it down. Not sure why but super rude. The kids were even appalled by his behavior! Another member was verbally attacked by the owners son who drove up on a tractor into camp where kids were playing, just to verbally threaten a member. Creating a scene in front of many children and families. A tractor, into a campsite with children....not OK! This is not the place to take children let alone waste your time investing into a membership where it's your word against theirs. What they say goes and they are looking to create trouble with you and cause issues. We were minding our own business abiding by the rules, but for some reason their power trip family/owners/management whatever they are ....are ready to start issues. You do not receive a warm welcome here. You are made uncomfortable, don't feel safe and have to watch your back so they don't try to position you into a bad situation like I witnessed between a member and management. People looking to buy a membership ....RUN!!! Don't waste your time with this place! So many other places that respect members and are safe. read more

I look at some of these reviews and can't help but laugh a little. I'm not saying their opinions aren't valid to them but I obviously came to this ranch with completely different set of expectations and I got them all plus more. I have lived in Southern California my entire life and for years Los Angeles has been my market so I needed a place to get away. I wanted something real. I wasn't out for chaise lounges by a pool or fancy, frosty umbrella drink chilling in my hand. I wanted a place that was quiet. A place where I could wake up in the morning to the sounds of birds, wind and my bacon sizzling. After that I can head to the barn and start the horses on a good day. It took me going there once and having the staff saddle my horse for me before I made that a part of my daily to-do list. Let me tell you something else; you have never felt tranquility till you've conquered the "Look Out" trail by horseback and gazed down over the valley below. My wife can finally let go once she gets here and my youngest has developed a level of confidence I have never seen before and it's all due to our experiences here at the ranch. If you're looking for a "dude ranch" with a swim up bar and the Blue Man Group playing at 9 go to Vegas. If you want to relax, live, love and laugh then you go to Sundance Meadows. Sundance Meadows is a place that is very rustic. I like that part. However, the staff at the front office is rude, the horses are not getting proper care either. I was up there this weekend and the water trough of some of the horses had blankets of algae in it. It was 90 degrees. Also, some of the horses there were so skinny. When I called and talked to Helen about it, she said that is normal and horses can drink water through the algae. How? It seems as though the rules are just for some as well. Every time we go there they immediately come to our camp and say our dog needs to be on a leash at all times. My kids were fishing in the pond and this big black dog walks up to the kids with no leash. I asked Helen and she said that those are owned by the Ranch and they don't have to be on a leash. Wow, really?? I too wonder what they are doing with our membership dues. The place is more run down than ever! I love coming and hanging out here. It use to be when Pat was alive, everyone was so much more friendly. I wish it would go back to that again. read more

Sundance isn't your typical organized campground. I've been a member for a few years. I also have memberships at Silent Valley and Mountain Lakes. Sundance is much different than any camp I've been to. It has a unique quality that keeps us coming back depending on how we want to spend our time. If we want to kick it under a shady tree in peace, we go to Sundance. If we want to be around bigger crowds and bands we go to one of the other two. The review ahead of me does have some truth to it. It'd be nice if they fix things up a little bit. Rarely do we use the bunkhouse because we have an RV but there have been occasions. Or maybe a friend wants to see what Sundance is all about but prefers a hotel room vs a tent or RV, the bunkhouse works out just fine. They must like it cause they keep coming back for more. We believe the good out way the bad. It is never packed. 99% of the time you pull up and pick whatever spot you want. Hell, you could pick two spots if you really want but one is big enough. Whatever selection you pick is guaranteed to be larger than any other you've ever been to anywhere. Campfires are not only allowed but you can create one where ever you want it. Kids love the place. My youngest who's 8yrs old rides her 'razor' go cart on the ranch roads. I can see her every move without having to leave camp. The horses are friendly and the kids love to feed them. Its a great way for kids to be introduced up close and personal to animals they may otherwise not get to be around. We've also had plenty of adult only parties. Nobody will bother you as long as you behave. In fact, campers watch out for one another all the while giving each other plenty of privacy. At night you can see all the stars and feel like your several miles from town when really your not. It gets dark enough out there to walk around butt naked if you really wanted and nobody would ever know is what I'm trying to say......just don't get caught. read more

Paid for my membership over 15 years ago. Kids are grown and lake is off limits, so I haven't been there in over 10 years. Have kept up with the maintenance fees. They won't let me give back the membership that we have paid in full and don't use. It'd be great for someone that can use it, but I can't. Anyone want it for free? read more

BEWARE! I visited this ranch in the late 80's, but couldn't afford the membership buy in. For years my husband and I wanted to return and buy in. Finally, we did. It has been the worst financial decision ever. We paid our $5000 and several years of monthly dues. They never reinvest any money into the bunk house or the property. It is run down and dirty. It was infested with roaches and mice the last time we went. The horses are underfed and have flies all over them. I get that this happens to horses, but there are eye protectors that keep the flies off. They really should be reported for the way they care for the animals. The hours to ride horses are limited to 4 pm. Even if it is your own horse. We decided that enough is enough. They have gotten thousands of our dollars. Now they are harassing us to keep paying for this. They want us to resell our membership. Absolutely, not. I would never trick a friend into buying into this dump. read more
