I have been extremely disappointed with my new trailer. i purchased a brand new 2-horse trailer with living quarters almost 2 years ago. First, when i received it the inside divider panel in the horse area was too long, it would not push in and stuck out 8", my horse could not unload without hitting his hip on it. I had to go locally and have it fixed. At this time Sundowner paid to have it fixed since they knew it was their mistake. 2nd thing the door to my bathroom was put on backward, you can not put the couch-bed down, and open the door prior, because it opens backward. so you would have to go outside and thru the horse area to get to the bathroom if you put the bed down. My friends have 3 sundowners with the door going the opposite way. it works great!! I will now have to go in and pay to have it fixed, Sundowner accepts NO RESPONSIBILITY!! The whole 3 year bumper to bumper is a lie!! I must say my prior trailer was a Featherlite and i loved it....This trailer leaves a lot to be desired..... read more

We pretty much knew exactly which two-horse, slant-load Trails West horse trailer and features we wanted. There were several models on the lot and Beau from Sundowner patiently helped us compare the features - water tank, windows, even the type of hooks in the walk-in tack compartment. We finally selected a trailer but then changed our minds when we noticed the one we initially selected did not have windows in the rear doors. Oops, those windows are an important feature we wanted! Beau, Heidi and the rest of the crew at Sundowner were the epitome of customer service and made the switch without hesitation. They prepared and checked everything out for us before connecting the trailer to our truck, including recommending a heavy duty hitch, much better than the light duty one we came with. What a great experience! We were looking to buy a trailer and truely believe to have made a few new friends in the process. This company's employees, Eric & Heidi are honest, quick, knowledgable, and sincere. We would recommend everyone to check out this dealership! We wish we had more money to make an excuse to buy another one just to see them and experience it all over again! Our experience: We purchased a definitely used 2001 featherlite trailer, we were a little discouraged as I had been emailing one of the sales reps, and much to my dislike the conversation ended with "just come in" prior to most of my questions being answered. You can see how this would be difficult as we live 4.5 hours away... We were pleasantly greeted by a sales man, Eric, (later to find he is the only sales rep), and also the one I'd been having the email conversation with. He sincerely appologized for his curt ness and offered up his services if we had any questions. We had already been pre-approved by our bank which was a plus as they couldn't finance us for this trailer being over 10 years old, much to my surprise (and later, slight delight) as we had not been informed of this and their was another the woman who had been there minutes prior to us looking at the same trailer, she had not been informed or had cash (thus our slight delight). We spoke to Eric who told us all of the work that had been done, showed us documentation of everything since the trailer was in their possession, and was just overall an absolute delight! They adjusted the trailer to our trucks height and made all the slight adjustments for an easy ride home. Obviously with a sale you'd expect everyone to be sincere and polite but you'd be surprised the attitude some people can give simply because they've already made their check for the month or, aren't making enough profit to really go the distance. I truely believe this is not the case with this company. We had an absolute pleasure of an experience and will be sending much business their way! Finally I'd like to say Eric & Heidi made or weekend! Their honesty and good customer service is second to none in our opinion, it was like working with family. I own a 2020 28 ft enclosed trailer. The paint started coming off at around 22 months old. Their warranty department took 3 months to get back to me and when they did stated it was not covered. They recommended waxing it. Buyer beware they don't honor their warranty and take months to get back to you. I should of bought an ATC trailer. read more

Called about a trailer issue. They couldn't get me in for a while but did trouble shooting over the phone. My issue has been corrected. I did not spend a penny but they spent over 30 minutes helping me with my issue. I have a delivery business so having a working trailer is important. I will be mailing in a check for the service help also. They did not need to spend the time helping me. They could have just booked an appointment and charged me as they saw fit. I hate rating anything 1 Star (literally all of my other reviews are 5 Star) but unfortunately, I feel I don't have a choice. Their negligence could have killed my horses. I brought my trailer in for its annual safety inspection. Check the frame, check the floor, repack the bearings, bla bla bla. So...after the safety inspection and fixing all of the minor light bulbs and whatnot they said I needed to fix, I paid my $625 dollars and took it home, assuming it was safe and in tip top shape. Trailered my horses around, did my thing until two weeks later I lifted my mat to sweep under it and found a GAPING HOLE IN MY FLOOR! (See photo) I pushed around the hole and the rotted wood just fell away. If my fingers could do it...a 1300lb horse sure could. This was not something that happened overnight. It was dry rot that they TOTALLY MISSED during the safety inspection. There was no manure and no shavings in the trailer when I dropped it off and checking the floor is one of the things included in this inspection. It wasn't missed...it just wasn't done. Any person who lifted that mat could see that hole. But they totally dropped the ball and it could have cost my horse his life if the board would have given on the freeway. So I called and brought it back. My boyfriend dropped it off and the service manager told him that the guy who did our trailer had already left for another job so there's nothing they could do. Ummm...that's reassuring. Two full days later (I kind of felt like they should have prioritized my trailer because of such an egregious mistake and gotten it back to me in a day, but whatever) and I picked it up. I got an I'm sorry from the guy who hooked my trailer (he was very nice, I can say that), after telling me that he's shocked it happened because that's the number one spot for dry rot on floors and they just had a staff meeting about checking the floors under the mats because it happened to someone else! No offer to refund me part or all of what I paid for a service I didn't get, no "how do we make this better?" Heck, they could have even offered to wash it! But nothing. I live in downtown sac and park my trailer in Wilton where I board my horses. I work full time. It's not an easy or cheap thing having to drive all over the countryside from Wilton to auburn to pick up and drop off my trailer multiple times, especially given their business hours of 9-5...when I'm at work! I am very disappointed with the apparent lack of concern they showed in keeping a customer. Apparently they have enough already and aren't worried about one more. I purchased an amazing fully loaded sundowner 3 horse from Craig this weekend and had an amazing experience. I emailed a week before about a new model that they were out of stock on but Craig called me and I walked through what I wanted - 3 horse gooseneck, extra tall and large front tack. He called me back with 3 options that they had in used - two of which had just come in and hadn't even been posted to their website. During the week as they finished detailing them the team sent me picture. We agreed that I would come in when they opened Saturday and pick from the three. Craig met me Saturday morning at 9 with a Latte from Starbucks and took me for a tour around the lot. We looked at the 3 used options and also a few new options that would fit the bill. After seeing all the inventory I decided to go with the sundowner. I pulled a loan from my own trailer financing company and Craig was great about working with them. We got all the paperwork done in 20 minutes and then went back to the trailer to walk through a special configuration of the tack room that I wanted. He put 3 of his guys on it and told me to come back in a few hours. When I got back to the dealership everything was exactly the way I had asked for it. We hooked it up to my truck and checked the electrical and adjusted the trailer to the truck. My experience with Craig and team is the best I've ever had with a big purchase. Can I give Sundowner more than 5 stars?! I ordered my Trails West From Eric 2 years ago. Eric was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He actually made my buying experience pleasurable. I was thrilled with my trailer and he kept me looped-in until it arrived-right on schedule! And then...there is Craig and his amazing service team! I won't bring my trailer anywhere else even though there a several repair shops closer to me. They very patiently explain the repairs and keep you posted-it's ready when they say it will be. NO surprises! Service is expert at what they do-from the smallest details to the huge issues. They do their best to keep costs down and your trailer in excellent shape. Sundowner Experience Over the years, I have purchased two new horse trailers and one new john deere tractor, spending just under $75,000. In late 2003, I ordered a custom Sundowner trailer. I was assured it would hold its value very well and was an excellent investment. In light of this, I took care of it. I waxed it 3 times per year (inside and out!), and made sure it was maintained properly. In 2012, I was considering selling, as I am no longer showing. At that time, Craig stated he would ask 24k, sell 22k, then take commission. I reconsidered, as I still had four horses. In.2013, now down to two horses, I decided to sell and downsize. Craig stated he had been incorrect in the amounts he quoted me last year. He claimed he could not ask anywhere near 24k or sell for nearly as much as he thought. He said he would have to put money into it. Yes - it needed awning fabric and by law, new tires. (Any tires over 7 years by law are required to be replaced, according to him) Around $1,000 retail cost. (not sure what Sundowner's cost was) The trailer didn't have one scratch or dent anywhere. He said the models had changed, and my trailer was no longer in demand. Offered me 16,000 for the trailer. I accepted their offer. I take full responsibility for accepting the offer. However: Trailer is now listed on their website for 24,800. I spoke with Eric (he called asking me to remove my Craigslist ad - no problem) I brought up the conversation with Craig and the current list price. His answer? (paraphrased) "Well, we artificially inflate the prices so we can entice people to purchase new trailers. You know, look at this one and see what a new one will cost you for only a little more. Your trailer is dated, an old style. After a few months, we'll lower the price. " This causes me concern on two levels: 1. Which statement was true? That he couldn't any longer ask 24,000 for the trailer? Apparently not, as the new price (touted as a great deal) is 24,800. 2. If I took my trailer to them to sell on commission, should I be concerned that they were actively re-directing potential buyers to their new trailers? According to their website ad, the trailer Eric is describing can't possibly be the same one. You may judge for yourself: Their ad reads: (see their website under 'pre-owned' - match vin) 2004 8 wide Sundowner 727 Sunlite 3H GN This trailer is LOADED! Fully lined and insulated tack room and horse compartment, Mangers on 3 stalls, ramp over double rear doors, awning, extra load lights, 2 speed jack, boot box, Hidden screen door, 19 x 53 window in long wall, mini blinds, A/C, RV Battery and box, Fantastic Fan, bus windows on tail side, roof vents, rear ramp, dome lights, 30 amp service panel with shore power line, stud divider, and much more for only $24,800.00. Vin # 0569 So, how does this make me feel after spending so much over the years on new trailers and a tractor? How do I feel about sending so many potential buyers their way? I will purchase another custom Sundowner trailer at some point, but will be going out of state to do so. I no longer have any trust in Sundowner's statements or assurances. Forced to expand my search from the Bay Area, I came across Sundowner in Auburn during the search for a custom flatbed auto hauler. I got fed up with local equipment dealers constantly trying to sell me on their existing inventory even tho I wanted to order a special model/custom trailer. Eric Rojas took my call, asked me to email him a list of the options I wanted on the trailer so he has all the specifics, and give him till the next day to get the green light from Sundowner. True to his word, he has a build sheet and itemized list of my trailer and all it's 8 options I wanted in my email by noon that next day. 7 weeks later I get 15 pictures of my new trailer, siting pretty in their lot saying it's in their hands and ready to be picked up. Mind you I'm 230 miles away from these guys, These were the only people even willing to entertain a special order trailer. Buy with confidence. They run a honest show over there! read more

My John Deere riding mower needed the valves adjusted and funds are rather tight. Internet valve lash specs were inconsistent, so I went to Sundowner Trailer - the JD dealer for the specs. They seemed friendly when I had purchased JD and WC trailer parts from them so I thought they would help me out. At the service desk, after my explanation, Greg, the manager/owner told me, "There are too many engines and I don't how the specs so if you want to bring it in or pay $85 an hr for my mechanic to research it for you we can do that". Sierra Saw handles the engine parts. In 5 minutes the lady very pleasantly gave me the specs, valve cover gaskets and without asking, even printed out the procedure. I was impressed! Sorry, Greg. I purchased a trailer years ago from them. I checked out the price before, got a catalogue. Did my research. Spoke to lead dark haired sales man several times on phone. He gave me a price out the door. When I arrived with check in hand,(More than two hours from my home) the price had changed. I was frustrated , but purchased trailer anyway. Now years later going back for parts and dealing with this company is extremely frustrating for the lack of good business practices. I ordered a part two months ago, waiting for it to come in,calling,calling,nope not here The reception desk said. Service is on vacation. Finally came in went to pick it up and the service guy said it had been thrown up on the rafters waiting for us to pick it up. Why could they not call when it first came in.? Before it got scratches all over it.? Every time I went to the place they had two ladies at the front desk and a third lady on the side. What the the heck do they need so many receptionist for a small trailer company. They must have another business on the side. Sure would account for the bad customer service. By the way none of these women are sales women. Seeing that more women own horses then men these days, you would think a woman would be in sales. All the stuff us women do with our trailers. So where do I start On May 26 I went to Sundowner to look at used 2014 featherlite 2h bp it had never had a horse in it so it was just like new. Beautiful trailer.. On the next morning I called to say I wanted the trailer. And had asked if they could get the keys to the windows and doors to make sure all was good. So on Sat the 30th I show up to pay for my trailer and process all the paper work. I again asked for the keys and CRAIG said they had not had a chance to run the dealer to pick them up yet. So I said hey well maybe you could throw in a water tanks in lew of the keys the response was him blowing air out of his mouth and an arrogant laugh and said now way. So nope guess not... Then when I was signing all the paper work for DMV I said so it does not have a plate on it do you have it. She (who was very nice) asked CRAIG and once again his response was a shrug of his shoulders and no verbal response, not even eye contact and when right back to playing on his phone. So I guess I was just a complete nuisance to him now that he had my non refundable deposit and a check in their hands. When I did get the keys in the mail On June the 5th and was able to open the windows I could now not close them and the second screen would not stay up as the silicone had broke loose. But with help of my husband and my friends husband we were able to get the windows squared away. So the last straw was when I asked about the transferable warranty I was told that he would look into it.. He did not .. So I I contacted the feather lite dealer to find out it is not transferable Oh I most certain CRAGI was aware of that.. I have a large circle of riding friends in Calif and the first 4 that I asked about Sundowner was the same as mine total disregard to the buyer. So in conclusion PLEASE DO NOT SHOP THERE... The only good part of this experience is that I bought a beautiful trailer and the SAD part is they CRAIG got the sale.. SO much for Customer Service.. read more

He asked me to send him a photo to insure that we order the correct part and shipped it second day UPS per my request. Having purchased a new but repossessed trailer from the parent company Sundowner of OK last June, we have dealt with this location a number of times. Their attention to detail in service is non-existent. When we picked up the trailer initially last June, a safety inspection was supposed to have been done. I checked the lights anyway before leaving and found one rear brake light assembly non functional and two marker lights assemblies also broken along with service that was supposed to have been performed that was not done. This is basic safety and follow through. Yesterday I went to have four tires replaced under warranty due to sidewall cracking, which they did a great job getting me 4 new tires but while installing the tires they completely chewed up my aluminum rims. If you can't do a job right don't even attempt it! In addition they don't even have a wheel balancing machine on site to balance large tire/wheel assemblies. I also paid extra to have TPMS sensors installed in the 4 wheels and they screwed that up too. Lastly, I was told that the 4 wheels had been inflated to the maximum sidewall pressure of 95 psi, upon getting home and checking the pressures for good measure I found them at only 50 psi. That would have destroyed the tires in a short period had I not caught it. All in all, we will avoid this dealer at all costs in the future and would recommend other do as well. read more

I am thoroughly disappointed in the customer service of this company. I had to wait 2 months to get in for a trailer maintenance service. Due to Horse Expo etc taking up most of their time....huh??? Then finally I get an appointment, take my trailer in and have to leave it. The only thing not working was my automatic hitch (I have a gooseneck ) and the service manager (who is the owner of the business) said no problem they'd fix it. Well they called me 5 days later, and said it's fixed. I asked what did you find wrong? He says, "oh, you had the battery connected backwards". I just about choked....Really!!!!! He treated me like a idiot!!! So, I went to get the trailer, and he says all works fine, and proceeded to show me. Well, of course the hitch did not work!!! (like I had told him). He tried a new part in it, but it still didn't work, so he said he would have to order the part. I asked how long it would take, and he said about 5 days to a week. I said ok, even though I was frustrated that I'd have to come back again!!! He said he'd call when the part came in. 2 weeks go by and no call. So I call and he conveniently says, "oh, it just came in". Really???? (Still getting the "dumb woman treatment"!! ) So I said ok, I'll be up tomorrow. I get there right at noon, and he says, "you've got here right at lunchtime, so you'll have to wait an hour, then it'll take a half hour to do it". I was livid. There is no signage or info saying that they are closed during 12 - 1pm for lunch!!! He was just messing with me, cause he could!!! Anyway, I waited about half an hour, and during this time saw him out in the yard showing trailers for sale, and dealing with customers. (Really dude, I thought you were at lunch!!!!!) Anyway, absolutely disgusted now with this blatant disregard for me as a customer, I went into the office to just pay for the part and leave, I was still given the runaround, as the service manager had not priced the part yet. He ended up coming in and made remarks about "oh, do you want to do it yourself?". I could not believe how unprofessional this man is, and he OWNS the business :/ He seems like he could care less about his customers. My opinion is that this business got too big, and now cannot keep up, and therefore customer service has walked out the door and customer loyalty flown out the window. (I had a hitch installed in my truck there 3 yrs ago, so am a returning customer.) He needs to retire, or take a long vacation, or just give it up!!! I will never go back there again (as it is truly out of my way), and feel that their reputation has gone down the toilet. He is the owner/service manager/salesman and so one has no recourse with any complaints of dissatisfaction, so the buck stops there!!! Very bad customer service. I also made it very clear to him and the other salesman that I was very interested in buying another trailer, and could they contact me when one came in, and I'd be glad to come immediately to look at it. Why then would they treat me so poorly????? I am just so disappointed that I'm treated like I'm in a mans world and don't belong, and left feeling like an idiot.
