My family, including a service member and an immunocompromised 8-year-old recovering from stage 4 cancer, booked a 3-night stay for $3,600 using the website's pet-friendly filter. The property description gave zero indication that it was not pet-friendly. At no point during the search, booking, contract signing, or leading up to our stay was there any suggestion that pets were prohibited. Our pet is an FHA-certified service animal, legally protected under the Fair Housing Act (FHA), meaning we are not required to notify the property or pay any fee for its presence. Notification would have been a courtesy, not a legal obligation. Our stay became a nightmare when management attempted to illegally evict us from midnight to 2 a.m., claiming our service animal breached the contract. This was baseless, given the pet-friendly listing, and a direct violation of federal law, as service animals are exempt from pet restrictions. The harassment was relentless, waking our children, including an infant and our immunocompromised 8-year-old, causing significant distress. Management showed zero ability to de-escalate or handle the situation professionally. Initially, management tried to force us to move to a neighboring house that stunningly reeked of cigarettes, an unacceptable and health-threatening environment, especially for our immunocompromised child. When we refused, they offered a second "accommodation" at one-third the rental cost we paid--a filthy property infested with cockroaches and fire ants, grossly understocked, and unfit for habitation. We requested police assistance to clarify our rights, but the responding officers were shockingly incompetent, admitting they were "irritated to be called out." Instead of upholding the law, they threatened to arrest us if we didn't pack up and leave, despite this being an illegal eviction attempt without formal notice or court process. Management's excuse? The owner's child was "highly allergic to dogs." This raises the question: what would have changed between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. the next morning? This justification was flimsy and irrelevant, given the property's pet-friendly marketing. Exhausted and traumatized, we checked out early after recovering some rest. The entire experience was unconscionable, marked by tactless, selfish owners and utterly inept property management who endangered our family's health and safety, particularly our immunocompromised child. We are demanding a full refund of the $3,600 due to the illegal eviction attempt, FHA violation, and uninhabitable conditions. I urgently warn others, especially those with service animals, pets, or vulnerable family members, to avoid Sunflower Beach Resorts and Residences at all costs. The owners and management's disregard for federal law, guest safety, and basic hospitality is deplorable. Save yourself the trauma and book elsewhere.

"Salty Wishes" at Sunflower Beach Resorts and Residences--More Like Salty Bitches! Oh, do I have a treat for you! If you're craving a vacation where you're rudely awakened at midnight by a cigarette-smoking, shaggy middle-aged man dressed in dark clothing pounding on your windows like he's auditioning for a horror flick, then Sunflower Beach Resorts and Residences is the place to book! My family, including a service member and our immunocompromised 8-year-old recovering from stage 4 cancer, dropped a cool $3,600 for a 3-night stay directly through their website, lured by a pet-friendly filter that screamed, "Bring your furry friends!" Spoiler alert: the property description didn't whisper a single word about banning pets. Not during the search, not in the contract, not even in the lead-up to our stay. Nada. Zilch. Our pet? An FHA-certified service animal, protected by the Fair Housing Act, meaning we don't owe anyone a heads-up or a dime for its presence. But apparently, Sunflower's management missed that memo. Instead, they sent Shaggy McCigarette to stage an illegal eviction from midnight to 2 a.m., whining that our service animal "breached" the contract. Newsflash, geniuses: your own website markets this place as pet-friendly, so maybe check your own listings before you go all poltergeist on your guests. This stunt violated federal law faster than you can say "FHA," and it left our kids--including our infant and cancer-surviving 8-year-old--traumatized in the middle of the night. Management's conflict resolution skills? Nonexistent. They'd rather scream at you than read a law book. Their first "solution"? Shove us into a neighboring house that reeked of cigarettes so bad it could've doubled as an ashtray museum. Perfect for our immunocompromised kid, right? When we politely declined to choke on secondhand smoke, they "graciously" offered a second property at one-third the cost we paid--a real charmer crawling with cockroaches and fire ants, so understocked it made a haunted house look cozy. We called the police to sort out this circus, only to get Port Aransas's finest, who rolled up grumbling they were "irritated to be called out." Instead of defending our rights, they threatened to arrest us if we didn't pack up and drag our kids out at 2 a.m. Illegal much? Their excuse for this fiasco? The owner's kid is "highly allergic to dogs." Oh, please. What magical allergy cure was kicking in by 9 a.m. the next morning? Spare me. Exhausted, traumatized, and done with this clown show, we checked out early after catching a few hours of sleep in the roach motel. Sunflower's management and owners are the epitome of tactless, selfish, and utterly clueless, endangering our family--especially our immunocompromised child--with their reckless antics. We're demanding a full $3,600 refund for this illegal, discriminatory, and downright deplorable experience. If you love sleepless nights, health hazards, and management that makes a reality TV villain look competent, book with Sunflower Beach Resorts and Residences! For everyone else--especially those with service animals, pets, or vulnerable kids--run far, far away from this dumpster fire of a resort.

Unfortunately, half of the pool was drained and closed, and the pool bar wasn't open during our stay. I understand it's the off-season and they're doing repairs, but it would've been helpful to know that beforehand as it likely would've influenced our choice. The front building is also under construction, so the entire property feels messy and chaotic. The kids were excited to use the pool and waterslides after a week of college campus tours. When we arrived, the slides were running but the small gate shut. The kids looked for a lifeguard--none in sight. One of them easily climbed over the gate to slide, and only then did a lifeguard appear, yelling and telling them to leave and come back with a parent. These are kids ages 12-17. When I went to speak with the guard's manager, they readily opened the slides. Here's the issue: the lifeguards handled it poorly. They were tucked away in an office at the FAR corner of the pool instead of being visible and attentive. Instead of telling the kids to wait while they prepared to open the slides, they scolded them. The kids weren't misbehaving, they just wanted to use the slides. To make matters worse, one slide was left ungated, so apparently sliding into three feet of water was fine, but not five. It was clear the guards simply didn't want to work. After I spoke with the manager, the lifeguards reluctantly took their posts but looked miserable. Once the kids finished a few runs, the guards locked everything back up again. My 12-year-old was disappointed and said she still wanted to slide. There was no point. Instead I went and found another manager and discussed all of this with them. She agreed that none of our experience should have occurred. The next day, different guards were on duty and after asking them to open them, the slides stayed open all afternoon. A complete turnaround. Now, about the rooms: cleanliness was lacking. We found hair (both head and pubic) in the master shower and second bath. I called housekeeping--two women showed up with spray bottles, didn't turn on any water, but the hair disappeared, so who knows how clean it actually got. We also found a dead cricket in the master bedroom and a live cockroach in the unit. No photo proof...too busy dealing with screaming kids and trying to find it again. The entire property, from buildings to grounds, feels worn out and neglected. Overall, our stay was disappointing. We chose this place for the space and the amenities shown online, but the photos are misleading. Several amenities were closed, and the property's condition doesn't match the marketing. We saw the on-site restaurant but had no interest in trying it. I'm not sure if we'd stay here again. If we did, it would only be after exhausting other options first.

While not in perfect condition, the room was thoughtfully designed with flat surfaces and hooks where needed. It was nice to have a woodgrain floor and no carpet. There was also a futon for extra seating but it was not comfortable. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets had some areas with rough texture. The tub/shower was clean. The tub was slick. There was adequate water pressure and plenty of hot water. Prior to arrival, I was able to do most parts of checking in online. On arrival I only had to show an ID and agree to pay damages if I smoked or made a mess, and to specify whether or not we wanted housekeeping visits and what we wanted them to do. We opted out. Breakfast was surprisingly very good on the first morning, a Tuesday. Weekday hours were limited to 7-9 am, 10 am on weekends. There was lots of variety in hot foods, juices, and yogurt. There was a pancake-wrapped sausage on a stick, 2 varieties of eggs, some very good bacon, tortillas and grated cheese for those wanting breakfast tacos, and other goodies. There were 2 waffle machines and 2 batter flavors. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. I watched her retrieve bottled water for some people and bus others' tables. This was not the usual motel "free breakfast" experience, but something much better. The second morning was not as good. As one example, the pancake-wrapped sausages weren't fully heated, there were no tortillas, and the attendant didn't seem so into her job. The breakfast room is extremely cramped, but there are overflow spaces in the hallway and outdoors. This motel was a good value for us and better than a previous experience at this location. Maybe it's because we became platinum rewards members on this trip, but we can't be sure.

We called the office and they said we needed to go back down and have the key cards reprogrammed. My husband went down, came back, it still didn't work. We called again and were told that the lock probably needed a new battery. We had planned on resting from our 3 hour drive and then getting in the pool. We didn't end up making it to the pool until after 8pm because we had to wait for them to come change the battery. Tested the card, it worked. Coming back from the pool, we're stuck outside our room at 10 o'clock at night because the key card again doesn't work. We called the office AGAIN and they say they will have to replace the whole lock. We were up until just after 12:30 am with our room door open and the maintenance guy trying to get the lock replaced. This morning, Saturday as we're leaving to go to the beach, my husband closes the door and the door handle comes off the door in his hand. He sticks it back on and we called AGAIN. We're told they will send someone to fix it. I called in the evening to check the status and I'm told they fixed the handle but the card is still not 100% working. They tell me once we get back from the beach, stop by the office for new key cards and so the maintenance man can meet us and show us " the trick" to getting into our room. Apparently they lock they replaced it with wasn't new. It was just another lock. (That still didn't work) I know things happen sometimes and we try to give grace but this was too much and seriously unacceptable. I asked if we could have late check out of noon at least for our unending inconveniences, they offered to let us have till 2. That doesn't really help us once we're ready to go home. My husband asked about a possible partial refund and was told they would refund us if we left. That was per the manager. This experience has been extremely disappointing. They management here didn't show a bit of empathy for the unsatisfactory service we've received. I will say that the woman at the office was apologetic. That's not enough for us to be back. If you're planning on coming here in the next few weeks, don't let them give you room 209,there are also little black bugs in the room.

After almost 30 years in the military, traveling all over the world, today I had the worst hotel…read morecheckin experience of my life at this establishment, The Island Hotel Port Aransas. The biggest problem here is that not a single person at this establishment takes ownership for problems. First, their official website says checkin is at the traditional 3pm. Checkin is actually not until 4pm which the manager or owner tries to highlight when I point out that I couldn't checkin for almost 5 hours. Problem #1, this establishment needs to correct their official website. Second, I arrive at 5:40pm and I am not allowed to checkin. According to the front desk two cleaners did not show up to work. The front desk says "It's not my fault", as if the hotel staff is not part of the establishment. She suggests I go wait at a bar. She takes my name & number and says she will call as soon as my room is ready. Spoiler: she never calls. Because of this I am not able to use the pool before sunset. Problem #2, this establishment needs to hire reliable staff (e.g., cleaners that will show up to work and a front desk that will pass down information to incoming staff or hotel guests). Third, I arrive a second time at 7:41PM. I see guests checked in leaving with hotel keys. I asked the front desk why was I not called. The front desk says she did not know she was supposed to that it's not her fault. I look around the desk and I see the note indicating to call me. She sees that I see it and she says, "I know, I just saw it now." No room is available despite the fact that I paid a month in advance and other guests that arrived after me were permitted to check in. The new front desk was panicking, unable to help guests and lashing out. The front desk calls the hotel owner or manager who was also unprofessional. The owner or manager did not take accountability, tried to redirect to a 3pm vs 4pm checkin, threatened to cancel the paid reservation, etc., etc. She asked what do I want? I want to check in! Problem #3, the owner or manager herself is the problem, she makes excuses for the lousy staff and does not take ownership for the company they represent. The new front desk staff needs more training or should be fired as she cannot professionally interact with customers. (The job is not that high pressure.) Fourth, after 20 minutes I am finally checked in and given hotel keys. The hotel keys do not work! I cannot get into the room. Staff from a different hotel was called in and came and gave me a key fob with instructions not lose it as it is there last one. Their machine to program hotel keys did not work and they were trying to fix. Problem #4, this establishment needs new key card hardware or software (if it was not user error). The hotel room was nice, clean, spacious, with a cold A/C. There was a little musty or moldy smell...may be. The checkin experience was so bad that it doesn't change the rating.

When we walked into the office we were greeted by wonderful staff members who gave us a great room at a great price due to it being off season. It was fabulous.
