Rude, unprofessional, and items were late. Owner made me find my items off her floor. Would not recommend.

I had a terrible experience. I dropped off a blazer and a coat in mid-December. I pointed out some moth holes and old stains on the blazer and asked Edna if she could fix them. She told me to leave the blazer for cleaning and repair. She said the coat would need to be sent out to another service for cleaning. She also mentioned that, given how busy she was at the time, the cleaning and repairs wouldn't happen quickly, and I should expect to pick up my items after the holidays. She said she would call me when they were ready. That was fine--I left my clothes with her. By mid-January, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called her. She said she didn't know where my items were but would look around and call me back. She never did. I called again the next day. She still hadn't found my items but promised to look and call me by the end of the day. This time, she actually called back and said she found the items but hadn't cleaned anything yet. She said she would get started. This Monday (late January), I called again because I still hadn't heard anything. She told me to just come to the store to pick up my items. I went yesterday and found that: 1) She said she had done a general cleaning of the blazer but couldn't fix the moth holes or remove the stains. I get that old stains can be hard to remove, but what frustrated me is that I showed her the moth holes back in mid December when I first went to her shop. Even after seeing the holes then, she still took this blazer. 2) The coat was never cleaned. The other service declined to clean the coat, but she never communicated this with me. She essentially held onto my items for a month and a half, lost them for a period of time, and then returned them to me without addressing any of the issues I originally asked her to fix. Don't waste your time with Sunflower Cleaners. It's a cute shop in a great location, but the service is atrocious. read more

It should have been a red flag when I walked into an episode of hoarders. Clothes were squished so tightly together on racks that they were falling off onto the floor where there were more clothes covering the entirety of it, leaving barely any place to walk. I dropped off two dress pants to be hemmed, as well as a pair of jeans to be stitched in April 2023. I was told it would be $40 - great! I let her know that I needed the pants for an event in 2 weeks and she said that although she was busy, she could get them done in one week and would give me a call. Edna told me to leave the bag of pants on the floor next to her and she would get to them. Fast forward one week, I had not heard from Edna so decided to stop by. I walked in, gave my name, and she went to look for the pants I had dropped off. Five minutes...ten minutes...fifteen minutes later she comes back and says she cannot find my pants. I said I would help her look, as I dropped the pants off in a trader joe's bag. Lo and behold, when I look exactly on the floor where I dropped them off one week ago, there they were. She gave me the bag and I took out the pants to find that no repairs were done. She reminded me she was busy and told me to put the three pair of pants on the floor in the front so she would get to them sooner and to come back in 2 days. It was a "quick hem and repair, no problem." I stop back into the shop in 2 days and immediately my eyes go to the floor where the bag with my pants has not moved yet again. At this point, she knows who I am and what I'm looking for and promises that she will have the pants done in two more days. I remind her that I need these pants for an event in 3 days and I am reassured it is no problem. On this next trip to the store, I decided to come in early before work to pick up my pants. The bag has moved closer to the sewing station so I am hopeful. However, the look on her face said otherwise. I told her that to ease her workload, if she could just hem the two dress pants I could pick up the jeans at a later point. The dress pants were the priority. She promises me that if I stop by the store right before closing that night, she will have them done. Unfortunately, I have a work dinner that night and won't be in the area to stop by before closing, and my flight (for which I need these pants) leaves early the following day. The extra star I gave was a thank you to the daughter working at the store who agreed to drop off my pants at my house (within walking distance) after she closes up the store. She said I should pay now because I won't be there to pay when picking them up. My jaw dropped when I found it was $40 per pair of pants rather than for the total - which should have been much more clear from the start. At this point I'm desperate, and pray to god I can depend on this woman in the final crunch. She only charged me for the two dress pants that I immediately needed. The jeans I could pay for later, and she would call me after my trip when they were done. I came home that night fully expecting not to see any pants, but by some miracle they were there, hemmed as expected, and fit! Fast forward TWO years to March 2025, I have completely forgotten about this whole event. I get a phone call from sunflower cleaners and I am told that my jeans are finished. The jeans that I brought in to be sewed two years ago had cost me less than $40 to buy, so at this point I just told her to keep them. Wishing this place the best of luck. read more

I brought in a floor length dress to be altered to a knee length. I was in no rush with it, so I gave it a few weeks. Called several days before I needed it on a Tuesday and they said they needed a few more days, I said I'd pick it up on Friday. They were appreciative I called ahead. On Friday I came and got the dress, went home and tried it on. It was sewn really well but the lining of the dress was longer than the actual dress because of the fabric. I called and they said to bring it right back, they fixed it and closed a hole I hadn't noticed before and picked it up that Saturday morning. From what I can tell it is just one lady who works the whole place. She was very nice and fixed the dress quickly. It is a cash only or Venmo place. It was $65 to alter the dress. read more

The tailor is very sweet, but my pants were (1) not ready on time, and when I came to pick them up she said she needed four more days, and (2) tailoring the pants was $40 each! which I did not find out until I came to pick them up. I would have not had these pants tailored for $40 each no matter HOW good they fit after--that is insane pricing for me. She was not clear about the pricing and I feel a bit taken advantage of. The work is great but not a tailor for someone on any sort of budget. read more

Needed sleeves adjusted on a sports coat and went here upon recommendation from friends. Dropped it off and was told there was plenty of time and I'd be fine to come by and collect it the friday prior to my event. Went to collect on Friday and it was still hanging exactly where it was when I had dropped it off nearly two weeks prior. It hadn't been touched, looked at or even considered it would appear. The lady seemed unperturbed by the fact that she had missed a deadline, not called to make me aware and like she had just right then remembered that she had the job to do! Other than suggesting I leave it with her she had nothing else to say or offer. Dumfounded, I took it back and will have to look for another tailor and re think think my attire for this event! Seems to be a good shop but run exclusively by a lady that clearly needs help organizing and managing the processing of jobs to provide any form of customer service! read more

Becca: From what I can tell, this shop is run by one woman who sits by the doorway and works her butt off. Went here to alter my dress for my mini wedding over the summer. It wasn't super intricate (a basic dress from BHLDN) but she did have to shorten and alter the train and did a fabulous job and was very quick. Prices are super reasonable. I had to stop by to drop off my husbands suit and she remembered me which I thought was sweet. Definitely has that "mom and pop shop" feel and I'm happy to give her my business. Will be returning for bridesmaid dresses / other clothing items and out dry cleaning. read more

Small business FTW! Got three pants tailored (aka paid the short people tax) and a zipper fixed, for $55. The person who helped me was sweet and allowed me to change behind the screen (located sort of in the front of the clothing racks -- I'm pretty sure a bystander could've caught a quick flash of skin if they'd been looking). She measured and pinned, and asked when I wanted everything done by. It was Monday, and I asked for Friday. (I wound up picking them up on Monday, so can't speak to whether she actually had them done, but can speak to what the expectation was!) read more

I found Sunflower about a year ago because I saw somewhere they made fabric masks for sale. Edna, the seamstress, does that--but she is also a master of alterations and has saved 4 of my favorite garments from: over-stressed seams (two different beloved trousers); repaired a rent in my favorite silk blouse; and most miraculous, repaired moth damage in a pretty knitted shawl I'd made myself. Short people problem #242: having to hem every single pair of pants/jeans that you own. I've been going to Sunflower for a few years now, and the tailoring is excellent every time. Signs of a good job: symmetrical, correct stitch type and even spacing. Most recently, the seamstress (who is super sweet!) was able to turn two pairs of my boot-cut jeans (*so* last year) into skinny jeans! I've also had her done original hem on other pieces. The turnaround time for tailoring is not very fast, 1-2 weeks usually. Dry cleaning takes a couple days. Also, no parking between 4-6pm outside. read more

This is a review of their tailoring services. I was referred to Sunflower by a rival drycleaner nearby (their amazing seamstress works only once a week), which gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I need tailoring services often: I'm petite, and pants are always too long on me. Sunflower's seamstress is a delightful and chatty woman who will complement you on the fine quality of clothes you bring in, do original seams on jeans, and do a bang-up job shortening your pants (she magically knows how long I like my pants to hit)--and the prices are reasonable. I brought in a pair of slacks and a pair of jeans to shorten, plus chinos that I needed re-hemming to correct another tailor's shoddy job. The whole bill came to about $34. As for dry cleaning, my neighbor told me they're the cheapest in the Brookline Village area, but I have no empirical data on this. read more

Review is for tailoring services only -- which I knocked off a star b/c I thought they were a bit expensive. I brought a suit in to have the sleeves and hem shortened for a total of $40 -- which I thought was a bit expensive considering that the pants weren't lined. Otherwise, the store itself is a little messy, it seems like they have a lot of customers so I guess that is a good thing. Not sure that I will be going back, I'm going to try to find another tailor that is more reasonable pricing. Once upon a time, I found a beautiful dress to wear to a work function. It fit perfectly, except that the straps were too long. So, I brought it to Sunflower cleaners to have the straps taken in. The seamstress agreed that she could have it done in a week for me. When I went back to pick it up, it wasn't ready. She said, "can you pick it up tomorrow," to which I replied, "no, the event is tomorrow and I have to work all day and you agreed to have it done." When I went back two weeks later, it was done and she apologized and said she forgot. Unfortunately, she was a little too late and I had to wear my boring black dress to the function. I have had other pieces cleaned and altered here, and the work is fine, but when someone does not keep their word, I get pretty amped. read more

The two star rating is an average of great tailoring service and mediocre service overall. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be tailored at the shoulders. There was also a hook and eye closure that needed to be fixed, and the dress needed to be pressed. I brought it in on Saturday and the seamstress said that she would have everything done by next Friday. When I called the next Saturday, she quite curtly told me that the dress was not ready and would be ready on Tuesday. The dress was in fact ready on Tuesday and fit perfectly--as other reviewers pointed out, the seamstress is excellent. However, the dress was still completely wrinkled, the hook and eye not put in and, to top it all off, one of the hanger loops was now sewn into the armhole of the dress. GIven the four day delay, I did not have any more time to wait for these issues to be fixed. Moral of the story--I should've paid closer attention to the other 2 star reviews instead of being optimistic. If you have all the time in the world and only need alterations, I'd say you could hedge your bets since the tailoring was well done. Otherwise, there's certainly no shortage of tailor/cleaner services around Brookline. read more

After attempting to get a stain out of a dress myself, and creating a huge watermark, I took it in to her with just two days before leaving for a wedding. She got out the watermark, the original stain, and all of the wrinkles for a very fair price, and it was ready on time. She completely saved my dress! Thank you! read more

I took in my daughter's pea coat for cleaning, and the woman said she'd have to go back and "ask the manager" about the price. Don't they have standard prices for things, like jackets, suits, blouses, etc? Anyhow, she came back and said $12 (I thought maybe $10 but oh well), but then she added that she had "talked him down from $15." Yeah, right. I came back to pay and gave her my debit card. Oh, she said, there's a $15 minimum for debit/credit cards. A $15 minimum? Where is that posted, I asked? And that's a rather odd figure. Yes, she said, we need to post it, will tell the next customer who comes in. . . her voice trailed off as she smiled at me. I debated - I didn't feel like walking half a mile to the ATM to get the cash and then back again, so I caved and said, "Oh, just charge me the $15." Well, as you can see, in the end, she got the $15 the "manager" originally wanted. I'd call that creative pricing -- and sneaky. I'll never go there again. I don't like being taken advantage of. There's another place on Harvard St., close to Rt. 9, that has great prices and is very professional about everything. I think I'll go there from now on. Update: Best Cleaners - the one I referred to, near Rt. 9, is now my cleaners of choice. Excellent! read more

Been going to Sunflower for probably a few years now. Edna is the best. She always remembers me and has my clothes pulled out for me before I can even find my receipt. She also knows that the right side of my body is totally whack and my right leg is shorter than my left. So this requires her to measure everything more carefully so that my pants come out perfectly even. We also recently discovered that this affects my shoulders, therefore needing her to measure both when shortening shirt/dress straps for me. Everything is reasonably priced and I've always been happy with all my alterations and dry cleaning. I've referred a couple friends as well and they are also happy with the alterations here. read more

I've had enough positive experiences at this place now that I thought they deserve a review. I've never had any tailoring done, only cleaning. I'm always impressed when things in Brookline aren't overpriced because, let's be honest, most things are. For some reason I own a lot of clothes that are dry clean only (especially now that my dryer burns things), so I appreciate a place where I can take things more than once without leaving me broke. More butcher than tailor. Task: let out men's dress slacks & put on new pockets. Results: Belt loops reaffixed in crude fashion: raw edges, misaligned, etc. Holes in fabric where either 1) seam ripper was used hastily, or 2) slacks were yanked across serrated tracks under sewing machine presser foot. Stray threads left over from last job (purple) included in new stitching. Gaps in seams where new pockets sewn onto old ones. In short: sloppy, hasty, damaging. read more
