Working with John and Josh in the initial quote and build-out was straightforward and simple. When I emailed back asking if we could just move some panels and not add any, I just got outright ignored. Sungenia did an excellent job installing our solar system back in April, 2016. The owner, Mike Snell, is very knowledgeable and courteous to take his time answering my many questions along the way. I personally interviewed four different installers (two national companies and two local companies) after inviting them to visit the house and provide a proposal. Sungenia and the other local installer both quoted ~$38,000 for a 12.6 kwh system, while the national installers quoted ~$48,000 for a 9.6kwh system!!! Unbelievable!!! After comparing the two local installers, I selected Sungenia for a handful of reasons: 1. The price... most competitive: we were almost robbed by the national installers who install the same quality components in smaller systems kwh for much higher costs. Mike installed a larger system with good quality components for a better price. The other local installer wanted to use subpar quality components, so Sungenia really hit the sweet spot between price and performance. 2. Quality of the components: same quality or better components than national installers (solar hardware is pretty standard nowadays). 3. Mike made himself available to answer all our questions. He's a really good communicator and patient! 4. Fast install... 2-3 weeks from quote to installation! We actually initially went with another local installer before finding Sungenia... the other local installer had a huge backlog of projects that were overwhelming to manage. We waited 6 months with no progress. We were simply not a priority for that other installer. Then we found Sungenia. Mike made us a priority and we had our install in no time! read more

My only complaint was communication at times. There was a change in the location of my array as well as a limitation of my box that was not communicated to me until the work was done. I can't speak highly enough about everyone at Sungenia! I was left in the lurch when the solar company I had chosen (Horizon Solar) all of the sudden went out of business with no warning and no notifications - in the last steps of the process. I called some consumer support groups for solar who pointed me to directly to Mike. The next day Mike (sungenia owner) came out to see what he could do to help. His team when above and beyond to fix problems the other company had done and get me permission to operate. Mike Snell, owner of Sungenia Solar Systems out of Poway (and operations manager Conrad), serving North County and beyond was one of the BEST contractors I have ever worked with since I have relocated to SD from LA! When we bought our house in the summer 2016, we knew that solar power was a top priority and we went to all the "home shows" to check everyone out and set up appointments to bid our job. We we kind of "eh" after every appointment on all the people we met with to bid the job. Then a friend referred Sungenia and Mike Snell and gave me a contact phone number and we decided to get one more bid. He was able to schedule an appt within 24 hours and we were on our way! He came to our home with his operations manager, Conrad, and did a full inspection of our house and discussed where the solar panels would go. He spent extensive time at the electrical panel to figure out how to make that work with the system and came up with a workable solution. He painstakingly answered all our questions about the changes from Net Metering 1.0 to Net Metering 2.0 with SDG&E. This company really listens to their customers and are up to date on the latest technology platforms and equipment. You are buying from a "made in the USA" vendor with Sungenia - so many of the panels are being made in Asia and we like to support small business owners. Our 28 panels were installed about 2 weeks later and the whole crew was very professional and efficient. With so many options of solar companies in San Diego, how in the world are you supposed to choose? According to one of our solar visits they mentioned there were over 600 companies to choose from. Thankfully my neighbor had recently had solar panels installed by Sungenia and he highly recommended them. They are a very small company, but they only do referrals which is a great sign that they are busy enough without advertising. We did get a quote from Sunrun, but I am very happy with the service from a small family owned company. Thank you to Mike, Don and Casey for great customer service. The process is really super easy as they handle everything with SDGE so it's as seemless as possible. If you are thinking about solar I would definitely make sure Sungenia is on your list! Sungenia has been a great company to work with from the very beginning to the end! It was recommended by my co-worker who has done extensive search on different options in San Diego. I've also done research and have obtained several quotes, and Sungenia's price and service/warranty were one of the most competitive, if not the best, I have received. What really made me decide to go with Sungenia is Michael's (one of the owners) breadth of knowledge and great communication - speed of response. He was always there to respond to a number of questions I had concerning the technology, billing, maintenance and calculations on long term savings via email, text, and over the phone. Eric and co-worker did the installation in one day and showed up exactly as scheduled. Don was also there to double-check the installation and has met with the city inspector to finalize approval and connecting to the grid. They also set up a hardwired Ethernet connection into my modem so I can monitor EACH solar panels performance over time, which is not something many companies will do. I am extremely pleased with our Sungenia solar system and I would strongly recommend them to anyone looking into home solar. Here are the reasons that I went with Sungenia over the other companies that I considered: 1) The owner, Mike Snell, is a Ph.D. who has a thorough understanding of solar technology. As one example of why this is important, the other companies used "free" services to estimate solar irradiation levels on my roof surfaces while Mike used a satellite subscription service and the elevations from our home to give much more precise estimates. Mike also explained why power optimizers are a better choice than micro inverters. 2) Mike's superintendent is a former homebuilder who understands how roofs, attics, etc. are built. One of the competitor companies assured me that they could run the cables through our attic. Mike was skeptical and took the time to walk though our attic and show me that it wasn't possible. So, I didn't have any big negative surprises that I would have had with at least one the other companies. 3) Mike's lead installer was just fantastic. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and a great communicator. Once again, no surprises. 4) The roofer Mike used was outstanding, and the communication between the roofer and Mike's installer was perfect. Sungenia was not perfect, here are the two things I was a bit disappointed in: 1) The roofer had to replace several vents with a lower-profile model. The roofer showed me the old vents that they had removed. But, neither the roofer nor Sungenia said anything about these vents not being in their cost estimate. Sungenia doesn't bill anything until all work is complete and the system is operational. This is fantastic, but when I received the bill I was surprised to see a $500 increase associated with the vents. Again, they clearly replaced the vents, I just wish they had given me a heads up that this would increase the cost. 2) The office support was ok but not great. For example, an error was made in my application to SDG&E that cost us a couple of days and I was sent documentation for a different solar panel than was installed. Overall, I am extremely satisfied and I don't think I would be if I had chosen either of the other companies that I considered. read more

Sungenia did a great job for us! From explaining the intricacies of solar power and what to expect for schedule and sequence of events, to the installation and operation, they were patient, unusually knowledgeable, efficient, responsive, and courteous. They were also very reasonably priced; they were the lowest competent bidder of the 5 who gave us estimates. The system they designed and installed is sized appropriately, installed very neatly and competently on just a couple days, works very well, and is likely to last a very long time. They used torque wrenches on almost every nut and bolt, as recommended by the manufacturers; others apparently don't do this, as this question was most often ignored by other solar companies we interviewed. They also took into consideration some options for future expansion, including provisions for adding panels, Tesla batteries, or a possible car charger. They interfaced to city, HOA, utility and other external entities, minimizing the impact to us, yet getting the job done quickly and safely. I have good access to the production data, and we are generating slightly more energy than I expected to see, even in the summer, on my mulit-faceted roof, with chimneys, near the coast with all the clouds! read more
