We were put on the waitlist after doing so but then got a text several days later saying two spots opened for us, so I snagged our seats as fast as I could. Really appreciate the staff on the other line for reaching out to me and "reserving" my spots unless I let them know I'm not interested! Getting here, there is the Meyden Garage that offers 3-hour free parking for customers of Whisk and other surrounding businesses though most spaces inside there did not have the signage saying that so it was confusing parking around there. Getting inside the building, you'll see what can only be described as a haven for chefs and aspiring cooks of all levels; you have cooking tools, pots and pans, cookbooks, plates, neatly folded cloth napkins and a bunch of other things strewn around in such a colorful and organized manner. The kitchen for our cooking class was clean and spacious, with all the ingredients we need prepped and set out in front of us. We worked in pairs prepping and cooking all our dishes throughout. Chef Thanh Tang was very informative and engaging throughout the whole process, and the other staff working with him were efficient in cleaning used utensils and keeping everyone's prepped items in check. Instructions were very clear, and directions flowed very well since we made one dumpling after another! Since both of us don't really cook and we had many questions to ask, it took us a bit to catch up with the rest of the class, but all the folding techniques became much easier to do thanks to our teacher. For this particular class, we pan-fried the shrimp and chive dumplings, while the wontons and steamed vegetable dumplings we prepped were steamed while we all took a break. As for the spicy green beans, I actually had the chance to stir-fry a non-spicy version of them in front of the class! All the food we made here was really good, and we came close to having to box some of it home too! Everything here was worth the $150 per person from the experience to the food, and I'd take another class here in the future! For reference, the class I took is called "More Dumplings, Dumpling?" and ran on a Saturday from 5:30-8:30pm though that's just a timeframe since I did stay slightly longer just to finish my food!

It was a fun experience. You show up and get greeted by their staff. You'll find your station and go to work! Some of the ingredients are pre-prepped which is nice otherwise you'd be there all night haha. The class was roughly 2 hours long and then we enjoyed dinner all together so roughly a 2.5 hour experience when it was all said and done. The fans kick in so it can be a tad bit loud when everyone is cooking but the instructor was great and made his way around the room to make sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to do. They had 2 additional staff members helping out to make sure any ingredients you needed were available. Plus - you get a glass of wine :) Fun date night!

John, the director of Open Arts Studio, is a dynamic guy who is so charismatic...it's easy to envision him sitting at a piano, leading a bunch of people in song around a piano a la Cole Porter. He's the voice teacher and drawing teacher and he's great at both. Home schoolers note: they offer classes during the day for home school students! For me, one caveat is the price. It's not astronomical, but most classes are about $125 for a session, about 5 classes, and it adds up. I believe it's because of this that some classes aren't very full. On the up side, if you take more than one class, or have multiple children enrolled, you get a 10% discount. They hope to add cooking classes somewhere down the line. We are looking forward to the addition as I know my daughter would learn a lot because they are both organized and inspiring at Open Arts!

Chef Traci kicked off our morning class with freshly baked pastries as we discussed what we might want to cook that day. Then we headed into Pike Place Market, stopping at multiple businesses to meet the owners and try their delicious products. I've been to Pike Place many times, and there were a handful of shops I was experiencing for the first time. It really felt like we got VIP treatment because of the friendships Traci has built over the years. We picked out a beautiful King salmon and halibut cheeks at Pike Place Fish Market, and I even got to throw and catch a fish! Traci was knowledgeable and shared Pike Place Market's complex history along the way. Once we returned to Atrium Kitchen with our ingredients, we created two beautiful mains with the salmon and halibut, plus a couple of sides with the seasonal market vegetables we had picked up. Then it was time to dig in and enjoy our feast while chatting with Chef Traci and the other guests. There is something very special about being in Pike Place Market early in the morning before the throngs of tourists arrive. I highly recommend the morning tour and cooking class. It felt like a perfect way to experience Seattle's most famous attraction.

The owner is one of those folks who makes you feel at home (well, you are after all) and then the day just keeps getting better. I was fortunate to be included in a group of seven who recently took her cooking class for ravioli. In the class was the past chef from a world renowned B&B and another has operated a successful catering company. Then there some folks with nowhere near that kind of experience. Arriving you are greeted by the charmng hostess, in the background the full farm menagerie--surrounded by lovely vineyards and a view to the blue cove below. The classes are held inside a perfect little cottage. Lori keeps everyone at ease and encourages hands on cooking. When we finished, we ate two varieties of ravioli, a marvelous soup and enjoyed new friends. The experienced cooks all said they had learned new techniques--the rest of us were just in awe at how EASY it had been to create a gourmet feast. My only complaint is that I have yet to meet anyone who is having their wedding there as I would love to be invited back to experience that. They are very happy to let me just hang around for a bit and interact with my son and other children as well! I can pop in any time I want to check up on him too. They give you a paper they've filled out throughout the day updating you on what your child did, how much he ate - what he ate, how many diaper changes and if he had gone number 2. When he got home from the first day, he was soooo tired! But he was happy! When I changed his diaper when he got home, it was obvious that they had changed him before they released him to his Daddy that day. Oh my gosh, they are very good at putting Diapers on Toddlers comfortably as well. I know that may be a strange thing to mention, but I am a stickler for how his Diaper is done because I don't want him to be uncomfortable. He didn't even want to leave. Now, onto the staff; I have a book of my own I bring with because I wasn't aware of the paper they give you at the end of the day, but they are absolutely happy that I brought a book explaining his mood, likes and dislikes, favorite toys, naptimes and the situation at home with working and such. They mold themselves around the child and they observe the children's reactions and make sure that each little one gets the attention and care they need. There are not many 2 year olds in the class, I could count maybe 10, but there were two caregivers (I'm sorry but I don't feel comfortable giving someone else's name on the internet), and people come in and out to help between all the classes. It's a very safe environment, with a door that only parents that have their children enrolled in can have the code too, so people can't just walk in, so that does make me feel more comfortable. The Director is a very sweet and understanding woman as well. If you want to know how the staff is~ Just think of people who are very patient and kind and nurturing and good with children. There are no flaws that I have found. - All meals are cooked in house, with awareness of allergies that children have, and are nutritious and apparently delicious! :3 Oh! One more thing, they are always down on the floor with the kids, the caregivers converse with each other and the children, so the constant chatter is also VERY good for the children to learn how to speak to one another. Their conversations are kid friendly, and very funny. I even laughed. So yes, if you're looking for something like this for your child, I very highly recommend it! TL;DR: It's a great place. --- But you should probably read what I wrote... heh..

The…read morestaff has always comforted him when he was having a hard day or a hard time at drop off in the morning and it makes me feel so much better knowing that I'm leaving him in good hands. West Olympia KinderCare has always had good communication with me too, they give me daily updates at pickup how his day went and how well he's doing with his potty training. I will truly be sad when he has to leave to start kindergarten. Thank you being a daycare I can trust and for all you do!
