I am dumbfounded by what just happened to me.. It's 6:15 in the morning, I ordered over the phone and drove here to pick it up. Lyndsey, was the one who helped me over the phone and in store. I ordered omelettes and SIGNATURE WAFFLES. I paid for my order and somehow, someway French toast was brought up in the conversation before I was about to leave. I said I didn't order French toast, I ordered waffles. She told me that, I ordered French toast and she even read it back to me over the phone. She told me that her manager would not let her take it off. I said is your manager here? She said no... I said do you have the paper you wrote it down on. She said no, I put it in on the POS When you ordered. I know for sure that I ordered waffles. The girl that was telling me her order does not even like French toast... And then as I'm paying for the waffles, after I just paid for a French toast that I didn't order. She TELLS ME!!! I'm sorry, I haven't made any money this week. I Can't afford to pay for it! Let me start by saying it was $60 for four people (three of which ordered breakfast). I went online to look at the menu and chose a sandwich that came with roast beef, green Chile and jalapenos only to find out that the "menu online is way outdated and they know it".... So I ordered an Arizona Melt and asked if they could add green chile to it. Oh sure they could. Charged me $1.99 to add about a tablespoon of some crappy canned chopped green chile which just made the sandwich soggy and it fell apart all over the place. Amazing experience at Sonny's this morning. The staff was awesome. Everyone that passed by me acknowledged me with a smile or asked if I'd been helped out. Unlike the experience I had at Dennys in the Flagstaff mall last weekend. I don't even want to repeat how bad the service was there. At any rate...my food came out within minutes of my server seating me and he brought my drink order with extra ice and an ice water before my food was served. Wow! Just how I like it and before I could finish my first drink of water he'd already asked if I needed another one. It's hard nowadays to find such great service in Arizona..especially in the food industry. I would hope that every business in the service industry could WOW me like Erica and her staff so efficiently and pleasantly did at the University & McClintock Dr. location. This review reflects only one visit to Sunny's. It's the kind of breakfast joint I like. A bit of a dive, which is generally a compliment coming from me. Think of a Denny's that has seen better days. It's locally owned. The waitresses are friendly and keep coffee cups full. The demographic of the clientele seems nicely mixed, with some families, some students, some professionals, some not so professional. So why only three stars? The food on this day could have been better (and I suspect it usually is). When I visit a breakfast spot for the first time I either go simple or order their specialty. This was a simple day. Pancakes, scrambled eggs & bacon. The bacon was perfect, served crisp as requested. The eggs, however, weren't well scrambled. Not a terribly big deal. The pancakes, however, were tough in consistency and had spent a little too much time on the grill. The flavor of char is great when you're talking hamburgers, but not so much when you're tasting pancakes. I'm anxious to give Sunny's another try, next time earlier in the day. Reason for the four stars and not five was the steak I ordered with my breakfast, it was cooked perfectly as were my over medium eggs but was not as good as some other diners I've been to. We've gone to Sunny's a few times now for breakfast and I think it's very much the kind of breakfast place you'd expect in a college town - one that has mediocre food but decent prices. I've gotten the 2 eggs, home fries, sausage or bacon, & toast special which costs only $3.99. In my experience, the home fries are always mushy and pretty unappetizing & the turkey sausage is alway dry. The greek omelet is pretty tasty ... especially the side of tzatziki. Our last experience with the service was interesting - our waitresses Jennifer came to check on us about 6 times within like 10 minutes! We placed our order & our food was brought out to us. She came to make sure everything looked okay - completely okay. She came back again 2 more times to ask if everything was okay - a little annoying. And what put us over the top was that she came over to our table right when I was putting my last bite of food in my mouth & asked if any plates can be taken away. Ummm, I guess? I know it wasn't all that busy at the place but this was just over the top! read more

So... Went here because it was super close to my house, and it had great reviews. Well let me talk about the pros first. Pros: They have a AWESOME PAINTING OF ITALY! really cool love it. They have great coffee. Cons: Supper stuffy and hot when I walked in the door. Had to ask to turn on the fan nearby. I ordered a waffle anything but airy and soft. I was hungry so I ate it. Was a bit confused on why a cup of fruit was not an alternative for a side. Instead you had to pay extra for it. Not a reasonable extra like 3 dollars extra for like this tiny bowl of fruit. Really disappointed at that because for the amount of money you paid for the food it was very little. Don't mind paying the amount if its worth it. read more

This place was A-OK. My daughter had been asking to try it and so we went for a late breakfast during the week. The ambiance is plain. An old outdated diner look. The service was friendly and efficient. Likely the best part of the experience. The food was overpriced. Tried the Irish Benedict. I liked it overall but the hollandaise (which is usually one of my favorite breakfast items) was unusually dark yellow and bland. I wondered if it was made from a packaged powder. The potatoes it came with had some nice crispy parts but were overall bland and flavorless as well. I did get a very good portion size. My daughter had the chicken fried steak and loved it. Other daughter had french toast and thought the one I make at home is better. Cost was $50 for three breakfast plates and three beverages. I did not think it was worth it. The wait was insane... but then again it was a Sunday. We were starting to get a little frustrated since wait time was an hour... (for family of 5) then we got the call that we could be seated... we walked in and waited another 10 minutes for our booth to be cleaned... again... we were very hAngry by this time lol... once we got seated... the service was amazing!! The food was delicious and made it worth the wait! My 12 year old ordered the BLT and she ate the entire sandwich (which she never finishes her food) I ordered steak and eggs and so did my 14 year old. My husband ordered a skillet and our son ordered a chicken strips meal. Again... food was delicious!! We literally had ate everything and had nothing to "take home" haha! We never felt rushed and always got checked on. My only negatives was the waiting, then being called and then having to wait some more... and the extra charge for ranch (I wanted/needed more ranch for my salad... and food) but other then that... service was amazing... food was delicious AND IF WE ARE EVER IN AZ WE WILL DEFINITELY EAT HERE AGAIN! read more

I tried Sunny's diner this morning for the first time ever. I am saddened to say that my experience was not as good as I had hoped. The turkey sausage was not spectacular. And I had the Pancho omelette and the chorizo was over kill on the added seasoning. It was not easy to eat. the home fries were also VERY mushy with a nicely burnt exterior. I spent $30 on my meal and it was a waste of money. Very upset. The server who took my order over the phone was also the same woman who helped me she. I came in. I forgot her name but she was very nice and sweet. That was probably the only great note about my experience. Wish I had a better experience for my first time. :/ read more
