Well, we're out here for our Friday breakfast run trying something new we're here at Jim's Coney Island Café in Northern Tempe right off of Scottsdale Road and Cavalier never been here before but plan on coming back. It's been here for 40 years reminds me of an old place back home and in Iowa sit down get waited on very very polite people food is delicious. I just just ordered what the food service suggested her name is Alex. She took great care of myself and a friend of mine who would've thought Polish sausage and scrambled egg. my friend had and he said it was delicious. I ordered the Salisbury Steak and it was horrible. The onions and mushrooms were raw with some gravy dumped over it. The burger was not seasoned and tough. I was shocked that the gravy had raw onions and mushrooms in it. It seemed like they didn't have the gravy and tried to make it on the fly. Since finding out about this breakfast diner, we have gone here multiple times per month for the last year. Every time we come and bring friends or family we have a great time. The coffee is strong, the service is friendly and quick, and the food is very reasonably priced with good portions. We really appreciate going to this spot on the weekend and seeing the friendly staff. I always get the chicken fried steak and eggs and my wife gets either French toast, pancakes, the specials, or the breakfast sandwich and seems to enjoy them all. This is our nearby diner. It's not at all fancy but it's exactly what I want when we go for breakfast. The food is tasty and the staff is friendly. We had 6 of us and easily found a table for us. This is the kind of place that has regulars who've been coming for years. Quiet and relaxed place with easy parking, very no fuss. Large portions. I am a fan of old school diners and this location does not disappoint the staff her is friendly but all business. I especially enjoyed the yellow counter chairs, boy it reminds me of places I ate when I was a kid in the 70s and early 80s. I ordered coffee, eggs over medium, sausage links, and white toast. The coffee was very good and leaned to the strong side. The eggs were perfect, the sausage exceptional in taste, and the hashbrown ms were expertly cooked. The toast was on the more well done side but that didn't bother me. All in all a perfect breakfast! read more

One of my favorite neighborhood breakfast Café. People are always nice and it has the homey feeling. Price is extremely reasonable. The food is very standard but it just has that overall cozy feeling that you may be looking for on a Sunday morning. However, they have a huge painting inside talking about Covid is a hoax(??) which is off-putting. Ehh. Good was good, atmosphere and service was good. But my gf and I just spent $63 dollars on two basic meals. What tf is that about? It cost maybe $10 bucks to make or less. Cute diner located in the same shopping center as a laundromat we were using. It was a great place to wait while our clothes were being cleaned. Our waitress was phenomenal. She checked on us regularly without being intrusive. My daughter's cheese quesadilla was delicious. My other child loved their biscuits and gravy and wants to come back tomorrow. Had breakfast here on Tuesday 12/14. Service was great, I don't recall our server's name, but she was lovely. The food was good, strong coffee, and the maple syrup was warmed (this was a plus for our party). The only reason I'm giving 3/5 stars as opposed to 4/5 or even 5/5, is because we were fat shamed by who we believe to be the manager/owner. It was quite upsetting as we were enjoying our coffee and the wonderful post-graduation feeling (I graduated from ASU the previous day). Our food was brought out by said manager/owner. A male representing person of late-middle-age. As he brought over a waffle, we pointed to place the waffle in front of our friend who was taking a business call at the time. As my husband and I pointed to where to place the waffle, in Spanish (we all speak Spanish) he made a comment literally shaming our friend who had ordered the waffle (which was a shared item) along with an omelet. The words he said don't exactly translate well in English, but the sentiment was clear as day. It's hard to say if we will be coming back, I like to give places a second chance especially when the obvious problem was neither the food nor the service. It had everything to do with the owner/manager fat shaming us for ordering extra food. As a customer, the last thing I want is to be fat shamed. However this man didn't care, he insisted on questioning where to place the waffle, he felt it necessary to let us know that my friend had ordered enough food and didn't need anymore. With all that being said, the server, a young adult female, was wonderful, and the only reason we'd step foot in this place again is to sit in her section. read more

The food was OK, but the service was horrible. We had server number six and the lady took our order someone else delivered. The food never came back to refill. My coffee had to take my cup up to the counter and she was actually kind of nasty when I said, could I have a refill on my coffee someone else brought it out And then someone else brought the check. I just had breakfast at the establishment and upon receiving my check I noticed that I was being charged $3.75 for 4 slices of tomato...that is equivalent to 1/2 of a tomatoe....I was livid!!! Not only will I not return to this place....I will never reccomend this place to anyone!!! Why gouge your customers for pennies during these times? $3.75 for 1/2 of a tomato...I eat at this place at least 3 to 4 times a month....I will never patronize this place again. Definitely an old, retro, classic place. Hasn't been updated since it was built but that's half of the charm.
