I grew up in MD and moved to NC when I was 12. At some point( Sunny's closed and opened back while I was gone, and this past summer, I went back home and went to Sunny's 3 times. Same great taste, but on top of that, my last time going before I went back to NC, I made it there after closing time. The man at the front told us they were closed but after we told him I was leaving for NC the next day, he hooked us up. That's as real as someone can get ! read more

If you're around the Baltimore area, you'll like this place. Some delivery apps like Doordash doesn't reach here, it's a bit limited in its menu (e.g. no fried shrimp), the sides aren't that good (the fries are really good), but the chicken is really good, and it's all-round pretty affordable. You can get a 6pc wing w/fries and a drink for less than $15, which is good. I'd recommend going here and I do go here often if I want a chicken box. read more

thank you Sunny's for being you and never changing. Chicken boxes, fried fish and you even supply mumbo sauce even though you are definitely in the wrong city for this. I am putting Sunny's in the same vein as I did Greek Village. These establishments do what they do and they do it well with no frills. This location is run down I cant even tell you in the other businesses in that plaza are open...well the liquor store is but thats about it. Don't come here thinking you will get white glove service but what you will get is delicious ass wings and wedges with salt pepper ketchup with a short waiting time. all the regular offerings of your traditional carry out spots can be found here and everything always tasted good. so like i said before don't act brand new and start ordering things like spaghetti yea yea i know its on the menu but do you go to a french restaurant and order greek food even its its on the menu? no because thats not what that place does well. Sunny's is a Baltimore institution, but i haven't been since chicken boxes are well chicken boxes. Decided to check them out, its located in a rundown plaza that needs some help, the place itself is equally as run down and needs a clean up or a spruce up. The parking lot itself has potholes lol. The place was busy and service was swift, and prompt. If you can overlook these things and the general uncleanliness of the place the fried chicken is damn good, so good i was kicking my stars as to why i didn't order more fried chicken. I had not eaten from here in some time. Let me tell you yesterday did not disappoint. The chicken cheese steak was delicious. I didn't care to much for the onion rings. Let me LEARNED you people on just how fresh this place is. Every morning, the owner Steve goes to various locations to buy big and fresh chicken, fish and other goods then gets to the store and prepares them. At almost every other chicken box place or Chinese carry out in Baltimore, they'll have the meat imported from either a different state or country. Whatever day you come and get their food, there's a 99% chance the food was made the same day. This place is busy throughout the whole day meaning the food is always fresh(er). When I used to listen to 92.3 (92Q is a rap/hip hop radio station in Baltimore), I would hear the host/hostess/DJ give shout outs to Sunny's Subs for having their favorite fried chicken boxes. IN MY OPINION: They have the best Fried Chicken (quarters, legs, thighs and wings) with the best Sunny's Sauce (version of Mumbo sauce but better). They also have the best Fried Catfish, Wedges and Half N Half and since this place is located in the city, the prices are unbeatable. Well, at least compared to Howard, Arundel and Montgomery Counties. But because of its location, it's really out of the way so I rarely go here. Here's a brief rundown of each food I've had here and how marvelous they are. Fried Chicken: The seasoning isn't IN YO FACE, but it's perfect. Never too salty, just right. Every time you bite into this succulent piece of meat, the hot and flavorful juice bursts all over your mouth (no pun intended) and you immediately become addicted. I sometimes wonder if they put nicotine (just kidding) in their chicken because that's how fantastic they are. The skin is crispy but not overbearingly crunchy and adds the perfect textural combination to the tender meat. Sunny's Sauce: You've had Mumbo sauce before right? They're at pretty much every single Chinese and Sub carry out in Baltimore, PG and DC. You like the sweet and slightly spicy sauce yeah? Well Sunny's Sauce is even better. I'm not sure what ingredients they put in, but it's not too sweet nor too spicy, has a great kick to it and also a subtle tang to it. A great complement to any fried food you're delightfully tearing down. Fried Catfish: This is pretty much the same as the Fried Chicken, just with 2 differences; it's Catfish and has a different taste (duh). Nonetheless, it's amazing and you need to try it! Wedges: This is a hit or miss for me. I guess it depends on what time you go there and how many people have ordered Wedges before you because sometimes they'd be perfectly cooked (slightly crunchy outside, moist and tender inside) and other times they've been sunbathing a bit too long. Still, for the most part they are good and even better as a side dish! Half N Half: This place still has the best Half N Half I've ever had. It's sweet yet refreshing, slightly tangy yet not overbearing, it's just right. I believe they use real Lemon and real Tea with excessive amounts of sugar. That's most likely why it's that good! I haven't had anything else but the foods I've mentioned above. The service is to be expected; fast, friendly and consistent. read more

Surprised to say the least. Sunny's is located in a run down plaza and seems to be one of the only stores open along with a liquor store and barber shop. So the price is just where I like it...cheap and it's fulfilling. I only order Sunny Wings with the Cajun fries and when I want my sugar to skyrocket a half and half as well. Now, I would come into the city just for this. That sauce...is yummy. And no I'm not going to compare it to Mambo Sauce. And if you really must know why...it's because this wings are purposefully drenched in the sauce. You can barely see the wing. Now, go to dc and see that things are done differently. Anywho, every time I've come here it is packed with MSU students...and that's fair because it is in walking distance. Bomb chicken boxes! I also just discovered that I like their regular fries more than I like the western fries (i didn't even think anything could get better than those golden brown pieces of greatness)! The chicken is already extra crispy, but you can ask them to fry it hard as well. Always get a jumbo half and half with whatever you order. The food just doesn't digest the same way without it. If you know you are headed this way, call your order in over the phone--you'll still have to wait, but it'll save you a few minutes. Its always so crowded and sometimes standing there waiting for 15 minutes can be uncomfortable, so calling in ahead of time will cut that time in half. They also have some table in the front if you want to stay and eat, but I prefer to go home in private and devour my food like a animal! Lol read more
