This was the worst I have ever been treated. I am a breastfeeding mother and asked for a booth in the corner so I was not in the middle of the restaurant with a stroller and feeding my infant. The general manager was rude and would not help. The waitress tried to help but he would not listen. He wanted me in the middle of the restaurant. He was very disrespectful to me and my family. Exceeded expectations for a Sushi meal here at Sunny's Sushi. Four of us in the party, two new to sushi, one an appreciative companion (my wife) and a sushi fan and home cook of sushi. I have lived and sampled many sushi restaurants in California, New York City and the DC area. I have studied sushi and make the rice at home and know how the sushi rice defines the quality of the restaurant. We ordered the mixed tempura for appetizer which included sweet potato, mushroom, broccoli, zuchinni and shrimp. The tempura was light and the veggies were firm. A good start to the meal, our guests were positively impressed. The orders included fried rice with seafood, two rolls, the El Paso amd the Philadelphia, three orders of nigiri sushi unagi amd I had the jirashi bowl. The sushi rice was exactly how it should be made, glistening, light separate grains with the slight mirin flavor. This rice was awesome, but surprising that after so so so many disappointing rice samples at other restaurants, that I have to be in the desert to discover such obvious passion for their craft. The slices of fish were each delicate, fresh and made you feel as you were being first introduced to what the sea has to offer. The unagi wa quite enjoyable and very generous in portion, but the susji rice was well balanced in the nigiri. Our guests were enjoying themselves and thought their food was very good, mentioning they were going to tell their sushi loving friends. I was very happy with the whole experience, now making this my go to sushi restaurant. I spoke with the sushi chefs and saw how the passion they have for their work and the joy in making the customer happy drives them. Since I found out the other Sunny's Sushi in the area are not owned by the same person as the one on Redd Rd., then I need to emphasize that my review only applies to the Redd Rd. Location. Sad that I have to leave this review but it was simply horrible. Idk what happened this place used to be great and that's why we went back. The hostess was great and attentive so kudos on that. The waitress took a bit long to show up and take our order which were ok with. Mind you there was only about three tables in the whole place. Looking at the menu I noticed that the prices where higher than last time as far as I can remember. We ordered some hibachi, chicken fried rice, teriyaki chicken and a roll for my party. The food took a while to come out, I noticed that they were putting out to go orders as well while we waited, problem is more to go orders came out of that kitchen than our meal and the others tables. The roll came out first and it was good, then it came the hibachi, I could not believe my eyes when I saw this 21 dollar plate, it simply looked like something you get at the Chinese place at the mall for 6 bucks. Everything on that plate was straight out soaked with teriyaki sauce and trust me I had hibachi in multiple other places and they don't look like this. A little later on we got the chicken fried rice and guess what it tasted exactly the same as the hibachi go figure. Basically same plate but rearranged to be able to charge the 21 bucks. Anyway the teriyaki chicken never arrived I don't know if they forgot or they were too busy putting out to go orders or what. At the end the waitress just asked us if we wanted to take it to go. We paid and left to never come back again. My recommendation to this place is look for better cooks, and look for someone that's able to properly manage the joint, if you don't you will find your place go on downwards and before you know it boom your closed and out of business. read more

For being in the middle of the country, forever away from an ocean, it was nice to find a place that had some decent sushi. The fish was good, the eel was great. But the rolls were loose and didn't handle chop sticks very well. The selection is interesting and diverse. There are a lot of rolls I will never try, but hey, some people like different things. We were in on a Thursday for dinner and got seated right away. Our server was pleasant and helpful since it was our first time in we didn't know how much food to order. She was right on. We started with the crab puffs, yum! We also had one of the special rolls of the day and two other regular menu rolls. I highly recommend trying their daily special rolls. This is the west side version of it's Cielo Vista area brother, and this one is better. The east side one has degraded into some sort of sports bar, with the ridiculous pictures of every person that has ever eaten there on the walls, including Jesus, who must get his sushi there. No longer a fan of the east side version. The west side version is much nicer, a great place for a quiet dinner. I have had nothing but the sushi there and was always happy. The Mexican Orgasm Roll is the best. One negative: The waitstaff sort of disappears...literally while you are waiting for your food to arrive. Kind of strange. Probably a bit worse than your average Korean run Japanese restaurant. If this weren't El Paso, probably deserves just one star. Not sure why I haven't learned my lesson about ordering raw fish in this city, I just keep hoping that someday I'll find something decent. We ordered a few rolls and the sushi combo. The sushi came out in about 5 min and was partially frozen. If you're going to serve frozen sushi in the first place at least thaw it before serving it up. In the end, about 60 bucks for a pretty unsatisfying and barely edible meal. I did note that they had Korean food on the menu, perhaps ordering Korean at this place might be a wiser choice if you must go. read more

I recently found this place one day when my normal spot on the eastside decided to close 20 minutes before their actual closing hours and not accept to go orders. As I was driving back to the westside, frantically looking for a place to grab some sushi, Sunny sushi caught my eye (they have great hours!). I was blown away by the service and food quality at Sunny sushi. Their ginger dressing is a little creamier than normal dressings, but is fabulous. In addition, they have AMAZING egg rolls and sweet and sour (duck) sauce. I have loved every roll I have tried, my favorite is the Alaskan, the salmon is so fresh and there are always nice big pieces of fish. Yumm! New favorite sushi spot! read more

I live close to this place so the location is perfect. Called in a to-go order. The place inside could use a facelift. When I got home my sushi was room temperature warm as if it had been sitting out on a counter all day. Therefore I didn't eat it in fear of getting sick from the warm raw fish on my sushi. The price of each roll is kind of expensive so due to that and my negative experience I will not try this place again. read more

Our quest continues, sushi rolls here are just simple and probably not even average by our standards. For lunch, we got a teriyaki chicken bento box lunch special, a spider roll, and a volcano roll. (Food) 1) The bento box came with with a salad, panko crusted shrimp and veggies, a gyoza, a cream cheese filled fried wonton, rice and the teriyaki chicken and stir fried veggies. The teriyaki chicken was undercooked, watered down and flavorless. The panko crusted shrimp and veggies were golden brown and crunchy, I was expecting tempura but it provided a crunchy texture to keep it interesting. The salad is made with iceberg lettuce and the dressing had a weird ginger onion taste. The gyoza and fried wonton is just like any other you would get from any Japanese/Korean/Asian eatery. Bento box conclusion, 2/5 the major rating is because of the amount of food and not being completely disappointing. 2) The spider roll was definitely a soft shell crab. We've had many spider rolls in our time from coast to coast. This is by far the worst place we've ever had a spider roll. Rating for this item is a 0/5. Though it wasn't disgusting, the price(10.95), serving size(5-6pcs), and overall I would not recommend this item unless you have an insatiable craving for a spider roll and you can't find any other place fulfill your desire. 3) The volcano roll, normallly this would be wrapped in foil and actually baked. This roll was poorly made. A california roll topped with a sriracha mayo and microwaved scallops. 0/5 rating, serving size and tasted nothing like a volcano roll. Overall opinion on the quality of the food at Sunny Sushi... we would not come back here for another meal. Beware of japanese establishments with korean owners. We didn't try the korean items but I'm sure it would be better than the japanese items, this is a sort of trend that we've noticed from all our food expeditions. Korean owners of a japanese eatery does not match well. (Service) The service was pleasant and good. We didn't have to ask for a water refill which is excellent compared to most of the service we've had from coast to coast. The hostess and waitresses were friendly and nice. If we were to ever have a meal at an establishment just for the service the whole purpose of it would be defeated. Our overall rating is a 3.5/5 for service, peasantry, and friendlyness. These are our opinions on Sunny Sushi. Do not let our review discourage you from having a meal here. From having better experiences our review gave this eatery a very low rating on food. Yelp and the sign on their door say they close at 11 pm on Saturday. We arrived at 10:45 pm. All chairs were on tables. They said they were closed. They asked if we wanted food to go but acted bothered when we said yes. They asked if I wanted fried or white rice and then said white rice was not available. They cannot take 10 minutes to cook white rice for an $18 bulgogi entree? There was a lot of hollering and whooping noise from the kitchen. The fried rice tasted like a dirty sink. The bulgogi had little flavor (except really strong garlic) and poor quality meat with some gristle or unappealing portion, probably the worst I've ever had yet it cost $18, not cheap. I threw away the dish and made frozen Stouffer's pizza instead, much, much tastier and 1/10 the price. If they want to close early, they should just change posted hours to 10 pm. read more

I'll start by saying, I do like their sushi. However, the customer service is what leads me to a 2 star review. Most recently, I went for lunch. I was seated by the hostess. I sat at my table for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement from staff. None. Not even a "we will be right with you." After 10 minutes of being ignored, I couldn't risk waiting any longer. I took my menu to the hostess, let her know what happened, and left. Too busy to acknowledge a customer? There are plenty other options out there so I won't be back. read more

Was in town visiting. I went during lunch a couple times and did take out once. The first lunch was awesome. Everyone was nice, service good, food fantastic. I really liked our server, Brandon. And it was some of the best sushi I have had in a while. What a friendly kid. The second time, the service was great, but the sushi chefs were a bit slow. Took a while for everyone to get their sushi. That day, I ordered a lunch box. It seems the kitchen staff was right one that day. It came out very quickly. For the time we did takeout, it was great. The person (assuming the hostess) who answered the phone was polite and had a clear speaking voice, which I find is hard to come by now. She must have been new, because she was a bit slow on taking the order, but I didn't mind. I would rather they take a little more time and make sure they get it correct than rush it. By time we got there to get the food, the food was ready to go, and the boxes labeled! I really like that. I wish more places did that. People should tip for take out more often. The hostess did a great job taking care of me and her other duties. One criticizim I have is that it looks like the place could use a small facelift. A little paint could go a long ways. But it was clean and that is important. Overall, a great place. I will for sure go back next time I am in town. read more

This review is a little bit late but I guess better late than never. Super great food. I went with friends and got the bibimbap that was served in a hot pot and it was amazing. When we were there the service was amazing the servers were attentive and helpful with our questions (and we had a lot of questions). When we got our food they told us the best way to eat our food by mixing it and adding the chili paste that is provided with the bibimbap. While there, I believe that she was the owner, came around and said hello and asked how our meal was and if we liked it, I think that things like that just make a restaurant like this so much more homey. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good home cooking Korean or Japanese food or the best sushi in the area. Yes things can get very pricy very quickly, but you can tell that you're paying for the quality of the food and the portions aren't small at all. I've also gone and gotten take out and had ordered the Chef Special Roll, the Mexican Orgasm Roll, the Spicy Yellowtail Roll, and a Playboy Roll and they were all amazing. read more
