After first discovering this restaurant ten years ago in Mexico City, I was pleased to learn they had a location in El Paso and decided to give it a try. The sushi roll I ordered was very good and lived up to my expectations. However, the fried rice was a major disappointment. It was overly greasy, with far too much soy sauce and an overwhelming spiciness that made it inedible. In addition, the vegetables were undercooked and served raw more like a garnish it was odd which further detracted from the dish. Unfortunately, it's not something I would order again. That said, if you're looking for a lively atmosphere and enjoy the energy of a sushi bar, this restaurant definitely delivers on ambiance. Just great! The place is cool. Ambiance is nice. Service is fast and friendly. Evey single thing we ordered was great. They did have a wierd single pice of nigiri on the menu but they were quick to tell us an order of nigiri was a single piece. We opted out if that, had a rice dish, karaage, and a sushi roll. Awesome dining experience! From the decor to the front row seat at the sushi bar to the tasty dishes, I was so impressed. They even provide warm wet towels to wipe our hands with before eating. I had the spicy salmon roll and it was to die for. The peach sunrise mocktail was a great drink as well. I was skeptical about the matcha churros at first, but they wowed me and I wish I had them close by so I can have them again and again! Only thing that wasn't great - our server, who was initially very sweet, became a little combative when I asked her why I was being charged for extra sauce I didn't even order (I assumed it came with the meal because she brought it before everything else) and never disclosed it was additional $ until I got the bill. The entire time we were there (which was 2 hours) one of their workers was cleaning the teppanyaki vents on a ladder for the first hour -this was next to our table. Then, he proceeded to mop the floor and spray cleaning chemicals on the floor-2 feet away from us. I asked him to please stop and he continued anyway. We spent $150 for an awful experience. Maybe my expectations are too high because I just moved here from Seattle but this is barely better than grocery store sushi. The lobster roll was edible. The spider roll had CHIPOTLE SAUCE ON IT?! how do u F up a spider roll?! I saw several other rolls had chipotle sauce on them and maybe that's my bad for not reading the description but every sushi spot across the US sells spider rolls and they're always the same more or less. expensive for subpar sushi. Such a wonderful experience oh my goodness! My boyfriend and I showed up without a reservation (should have tried to make one oops!) but the staff was able to easily accommodate us quickly! Staff were absolutely wonderful. Our server (I think his name was Nate!) was so friendly and so attentive. He took care of us well and was so polite the entire time as well as all the rest of the staff we interacted with. The food was delicious, of course a little pricy but I would say worth it for the ambiance and what it was! The blackberry Paloma was absolutely delicious and the old fashioned was SO good!!! Good times good food in El Paso. This was within walking distance of the Hotel Paso Del Norte. Our server recommended Sushi Itto so we went. The drinks were both good (Jamaican Mezcalina and Rice, Paper, Scissors were on point ) We hit up the appetizers with the Yuzu Ebi and Shasito Peppers. Both were excellent, perfect tempura fry on both and flavors were outstanding. The Yuzu Ebi came with probably the best cocktail sauce I have ever tasted. The spice present in the sauce was great. The Chirashi bowl was a great mix of seafood. The menu did say sushi rice was used, but you could tell the rice was not fresh and it took away from the bowl a bit. Also the bowl really needed some kind of spice, my solution was that I held onto that cocktail sauce from the Yuzu Ebi and man did that make a difference. We finished off the meal wit the matcha churros as they were highly recommended by many folks. They were good but not unlike churros I had before. Good Sushi...Ramen, not so much: Overall 3.5/5 I got it the place is called Sushi Itto not Ramen Itto, however if it's on your menu you should know how to make it. TLDR Sushi 9/10, Ramen 4/10 (and that's being generous). Sushi: Although the rolls looked like they were hastily constructed and lacked in presentation, they very much made up for in taste. They also give the tiniest amount of wasabi I've ever seen, like why? You're charging a premium price, I expect more wasabi. Ramen: Just don't do it, Tonkatsu ramen which is more flavorful than a Miso base is supposed to be filled with umami. Not the case here, it was bland, bok-choi undercooked, they have zero idea what proper pork belly is, and again the presentation was lacking. Final thoughts: For a place that charges $120 for three people it's very underwhelming. Service was okay, atmosphere was nice, but there weren't any other customers at that time either. read more

Really enjoyed my first lunch visit here earlier today. The location has a nice vibe, it's not huge but adequate dining space with tables, teppanyaki stations and bar seating. Ordered the build your own bento box for $20, added the teriyaki chicken for $5 and added a couple nigiri's (shrimp & salmon - not pictured) on the side. I decided to try this Japanese restaurant in El Paso downtown, only a minute or two walk from the Doubletree Hotel where I stayed. I ordered a lychee martini, miso soup, Wagyu chicharron, butterfly roll and matcha churros. The lychee martini is quite good, though I couldn't taste the lychee well, except for the fruit that it came with. I find the miso soup too salty for my taste but it comes with several things like shiitake mushroom and tofu, unlike other Japanese restaurants where miso soup is mostly just soup. The A5 Wagyu chicharron is excellent (I only paid $35 for my order- when I checked their menu today though, the price went up by $10; that's understandable considering the price of A5 Wagyu nowadays is quite high/oz). The chicharron is a steal at that price since they gave me about 4 oz. for the price of 1 oz. I never had crispy Wagyu and A5 too- who would have thought of chicharron Wagyu- crazy idea but very good! It came with chips and guacamole. The butterfly roll had salmon, tuna, mango and avocado wrapped in soy paper and topped with garlic aioli and radish sprout. I liked the combination- it was delicious!! I heard about the matcha churros so I ordered it - there were 3 dips that came with it: caramel, chocolate and very berry red wine reduction. I think the caramel is too sweet for my taste. The chocolate and berry wine reduction were very good. The matcha churros has matcha paste (I think that's what it is) inside. Unique flavor especially if you dip it in the berry wine reduction. I was about to give them 5 stars, however, when I checked my food after it was boxed, they should have provided me with fresh soy sauce and wasabi for the roll and I expected all the 3 dips with my churros, they only sent me with the caramel dip because probably that's the one I barely touched. But still, they boxed 4 long churros and I expected better service. I suppose they're trying to keep their cost down. The ambiance is good with nice music playing and the restaurant is not that big so the noise is not overwhelming. read more

It's with heavy heart that actually post this because the place is actually beautiful. The staff is nice slow but nice maybe slow from the New York standards. I could've gotten sushi at a supermarket better than this and with tip for $120 for three people for lunch specials and we weren't even having cocktails Was baffling not to mention the fact that they made a mistake and our cheese came out cold in the center because someone had frozen it. I can't say that I can't say that the rice was hard. Sushi was subpar or should say maki rolls. The only thing I liked was edamame. I don't know who's been giving it all these fabulous reviews. They need to rethink it or maybe this was just a mess. I just can't recommend anything when the food isn't good. This is not a reflection on the staff. First let me say the bartender was excellent and service was good. The food was weak. For a place charging premium prices and trying to fashion itself as an upscale sushi restaurant, it fails to deliver. Decor and "vibe" dont make good sushi. Trained chefs that take pride in their work do. You can't expect to charge people $90 for lunch and serve sushi that is actually not even as good as Commissary or Costco sushi. What specifically? Rice was cold and dry. Fish was of limited selection and quality/freshness on the level of supermarket sushi. The eel...cold, slimy, fishy, not seared, no eel sauce, not the way unagi is eaten. Even basic things like the ginger and wasabi, for a place trying to be upscale and charge upscale prices, maybe try pickling your own ginger, and using a mixture of fresh wasabi instead of instant package wasabi flavored paste like a mall stand. It's too bad because this place could potentially be a great spot, but it needs the owner to step it up on quality control, and formal training for the chefs. read more

My coworker and I were in town for a conference and another friend that lives in El Paso suggested this restaurant. I love sushi, so I was so excited! We started with the tuna tostada. It was so delicious. I could have eaten a whole order by myself. We also had miso soup which was full of ingredients and not just broth. The tuna on the plate with the margarita in the picture was very tasty. Then we shared four rolls. The volcano roll, butterfly roll (my favorite) and I don't remember what the other two were. They were all so very good. We ended the night with matcha churros that were served with saucers of chocolate, mango, and blueberry. Salmon tostada was a perfect starter, salmon was fresh. Tuna was fresh and also delicious. The salmon entree was so perfectly and impressively cooked. There was no dryness. I appreciated the size of the piece of salmon as it sits on top of broccoli and mushroom and came with a large scoop/bowl size of rice. Tofu entree was also perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and a sweet sauce that decorated the plate. Great option for people with dietary restrictions. The salmon seaweed salad had great presentation. It was like a poke salad that would be great as an appetizer. Ambiance is modern with some asian decoration. This place is a hard pass. Good location is about all I can appreciate. The hostess, Danielle, seems to be the hardest working person in the restaurant. She had to step in and help our waiter who was no where to be found when the food came, for the most basic things (plates, soy sauce, chopsticks). The food was hit and miss. The Yuzu Ebi was delicious to start with, large appetizer, but the shishito peppers are under "roasted" and under seasoned. The nigiri is one piece per order, with about 1/4 cup of rice beneath the thinnest sliced piece of fish I've ever seen. Miso soup is $5 a bowl. Butterfly roll was tasty and large. I don't think I'd return here or strongly recommend to others - unless you know exactly what you want or you don't want sushi. read more

My wife and I had Sushi Itto on our to eat at list and we decided to have dinner there since we were attending an event downtown. The ambiance of the place was nice at first. However, we slowly began to identify things that took away from the ambiance and experience. Such as, dirty and stained chairs, my wife had her wine served to her in a dusty and spotted wine glass, and then reserved in another wine glass that was more dusty than the first glass. After a third attempt, she finally received a glass that was suitable to drink from. My entree was made incorrectly, and the men's bathroom had a pool of standing water with paper towels thrown on the floor. It's just didn't feel like an elevated experience thereafter. The silver lining was that our server, Leonardo, was friendly and attentive. The food we ordered was decent. We started with a Mango Tai Salad, which was probably the best tasting item we ordered that night. I had the Spicy Udon with steak and chicken. The noodles had good flavoring, but the steak and chicken lacked seasoning. My wife had the Rainbow row and yellow tail nigiri. Which wasn't impressive for the price that is charged for it. I expected more of an explosion of flavors from the rainbow row. Candidly, I think Sunny's sushi makes a much better rainbow row, and better sushi rolls in general. This place has stolen my heart and my stomach. My husband and I came for a date night. We wanted to try somewhere new. This was well worth it. From the dining experience to the service, this was five star all across the board! We sat outside and had an amazing view of the city. This restaurant is located just on the edge of the center of downtown El Paso, and it you receive the most spectacular view of the city! The food and drinks were incredible. We had the yuzu ebi and rib eye rolls. I drank the Kiuri Martini (incredible!) and my husband had a cocktail. The sake flight was great. Walked in and placed a take out order. Waitres did not ask if I had any allergies to any ingredients. Was ask for a receipt and did not get one. Received the kitchen ticket order, no transaction number, no approval code, and so forth. Additionally, after taking my order, the waitress selected 22% tip but noticed that I was in front of her and chose 20% tip. This is mischievous, immoral, and unprofessional from the waitress to give herself a 22% or even a 20% tip for a take out order. On the other hand, food was pretty good. Beef on ramen was overcooked to the point it was a little tough, but the rest of the dish had great flavors and cooked well. I came during their soft opening when I was downtown at the Chalk the Block event. Service was top notch. One of the friendliest and most attentive service I've had at any Downtown establishment. They lent me a charger when my phone was dying and I like that the outlets are available at the bar. The Matcha Carajillo ($12) was beautiful and really rich. The coffee liqueur and Expresso was like a sucker punch. I only tasted the matcha powder at the end when I sipped the dregs. Not as strong as others I've had, my favorite is still at Cafe Central. They didn't have the Takoyaki appetizer (missing ingredients) and their robatayaki wasn't grilled over a charcoal as traditional so I didn't end up getting any appetizers. I did however try their hot roll, which was the Torreaditto roll ($13) It's honestly the best example of fusion Mexican and Japanese. It has breaded Kanikama, Negi and Avocado on the inside. Outside has melted Manchego cheese, and Chiles Toreados with Chipotle sauce swirled on top. Very creamy with a definite kick from the serrano peppers. The rice to other ingredients ratio is a bit off, since it was too much rice in my opinion and it was unseasoned so it made the roll bland without soy sauce even with the chipotle sauce covering the roll. The rice wasn't mushy which was a plus since a lot of the sushi places here in El Paso tend to overcook the rice to compensate for vinegar. The choice of light and soy sauce was appreciated, even though the wasabi was still a powder mix. Watch out for the dispensers, it will spit the soy if you aren't familiar with the push button. It was a very generous portion for $13 with 10 big pieces. I was too full to try out the matcha cheesecake which was the original plan but I will be back to try out the teppanyaki option, which is reservation only. I did recommend that they add purse hooks since there's no space to put your items on the tables, bars or chairs; space is at a premium here, they've maximized how many can fit in a table. A great addition to Downtown; outdoor dining and indoor spaces are available but I think they'll be pretty popular. I can appreciate that they will get busy quickly so make reservations after they fully open next week.
