While out driving in Clemson we found ourselves lunch hunting on a Tuesday AM (several places are closed on this day). We pulled up the local Yelp app and found this spot on the radar so we opted for a visit. The restaurant is located in a fairly modern shopping area (newer) and has a corner spot with nice exterior. Clearly some of the campus folks are regulars here along with the retired population. Parking is easy enough so we walked through and got seated fairly fast. 1st impression was a bit of a downward slip, the inside was a bit spartan. The daily specials were on the reader boards plus menus offered more selections. Clearly this is a go to breakfast spot for locals (looked OK but not spectacular) and a sandwich shop. I was a bit disappointed that hot grilled items were few and far between (yikes) with sliced meat panniers taking center stage. We opted for the grilled Italian and a Ruben .. side of fries. When the food arrived it did look appealing, but after the 1st bite that feeling quickly faded .. what is that green stuff in the middle, oh wait its arugula - on a hot sandwich ?? The show stopper was the ketchup, it was old and was thick with a funny taste to it, thinking that condiment rotation here is a after thought vs a quality assurance step - :( The second bites of the sandwiches were a further slip so we opted to eat the fries, 1/2 the sandwich and round file the remainder in the trash bin. I would say this is not the spot for favorite go to eats in the area, ok for a social coffee but for a sit down eat I would say pass for sure. read more

Sunny side is a nice breakfast spot in Clemson. It's either between this place or Waffle House whenever I go back to visit Clemson. I come here if I'm feeling a little more classy lol. The atmosphere and chill and laid back. Ample space for groups and good customer service. I ordered the egg Benedict and added bacon. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the grits were tasty! My fiancé didn't seem to care for his grits but he did enjoy his custom built omelette. read more

Used to be a favorite but it's just gone downhill over the years. This morning I was going to order one of the specials and asked if they could "put the sauce on the side." I was told they "cannot change any aspect of the meal." I replied, "I don't want to change anything - I just want the sauce on the side instead of being poured all over." The waitress then told me she was going to need to ask them in the back kitchen ... then she came out a few minutes later and said, "We don't even have that anymore - they ran out last night." It was so bizarre and almost felt like they made it up - why hand out a seasonal menu if it's not in stock? #weird read more

Ordered online and waited for food over for over 20 mins to get our food. When mentioned to the server she said "it's because they're busy". Both entrees were upside down in the bag and was a HOT MESS! This place needs to learn how to balance serving every customer not just the customers that eat in. Also, the online ordering platform is definitely not 2021. It needs an upgrade. The picture of the biscuit speaks for itself. It was soggy on the bottom and horribly put together. We actually got two whole biscuits because they were too lazy to cut it in half. Won't be returning any time soon. read more

SunnySide Cafe I wish my family's experience here had been more enjoyable. The hostess and our server were nice and attentive. The food was good. I got the breakfast sub, which was pretty good. It was served falling over sideways and wasn't easy to eat. And the BBQ on it was kind of soggy like it had been boiled instead of smoked. But I still enjoyed it for the most part. Our problem occurred before we received our food. When we arrived, we saw a table outside. We had 4 people and the table was for 3. I asked if we could pull another small table up to it and was told that would be fine. The hostess said it would be fine. So part of the way through our meal, after another small table had been cleaned, my wife and I carefully picked it up and moved it next to the table we were sitting at. After ordering and getting our drinks, Mark, the owner, came out in an apron and told us that his "tables are always broken because people move them around" and that "each table is perfectly balanced for the spot where it is placed". After mentioning that we asked before moving them, he told us he was going to go inside and "read his hostess the riot act". Based on other things we overheard while sitting outside or were told, the owner gets mad at his employees for trivial thing. Our food didn't taste as good after getting bitched out. It really ruined the ambiance for us. We didn't know if he was going to come back out and get onto us for some other ridiculous reason. Despite liking the food for the most part, I'm definitely not coming back. Even if the employees turn over, the owner will still be here. And he seems to be the type of lunatic who would treat his customers like children and yell at his employees as his management style. Update: We just watched Mark pull another employee aside to get in his face about something in front of everyone. What a dick. Our server is pretty new. I'm guessing turnover is high here. read more

We've been here a few times while in town, and it's amazing! Everything on the menu is delicious! We love the breakfast just as much as the lunch. The place is roomy and can hold larger parties. I saw an entire softball team there last time. Great service, friendly staff, delicious food. We will be back! read more

I always enjoy Sunnyside even though I'm not a big breakfast eater. The family enjoys going there when we are in town. I do like a good omelet and they have great ones. I never thought of Shrimp & Grits as a breakfast dish but it works. Very good as well. My buddy got the pecan praline stuffed french toast and it looked amazing. He loved it. Chicken and waffles. Everything was way too sweet. The waffles had a hard sweet crust that was sweeter than caramel and then had syrup on it. (They also gave me more syrup in case I wanted it lol) I couldn't eat but a few bites and the two of them were no bigger than the palm of my hand. The chicken that came with it was dry and overcooked. The eggs were done ok and I thankfully got onions and peppers in my hashbrowns, which made them taste better. My wife just got the plain hashbrowns and they were not seasoned at all. She was very disappointed. She got the pecan pancakes and there were no pecans on them or in them. We live in Anderson and have been looking forward to going here for a while because it's hard to find a really good breakfast place and unfortunately we were very disappointed. The place looks OK and could be extremely cute if they would put some work into it. They weren't even decorated very much for Christmas and they have a massive amount of wall space and area. The service was OK but the waiter was not very knowledgeable about the menu. We asked two questions and with both of them said I don't know, I'll be right back and each time he didn't return for about 10 minutes. The place would obviously benefit from an expediter on the cooking line that can oversee the quality of the food coming out. There is a chance that we chose the two things on the menu that aren't good and will only give it another chance if we're in the area, but probably not for a while. read more

My favorite breakfast place in Clemson. I've tried most of the menu. The breakfast potatoes are bad and the chicken and waffles are only average but literally everything else in the menu is phenomenal. Get the grits!!! The pork sausage and the biscuits and jam are also favorites. Very friendly staff and small town diner kind of vibe. Often busy and sometimes a bit slow but more than worth it. Just don't get the breakfast potatoes / home fries. If something comes with them, they'll sub grits on request for no charge. read more

Really this is a 2+ place but I will round up. The decor seems like it is going for farmhouse chic plainness and it just did not seem to make cohesive sense. It is an open floor plan and can be quite loud. I had the Appalachian Breakfast which is 3 eggs (requested over medium), local pork sausage, Applewood bacon, red potatoes home fries, fried grits patty, and a biscuit topped with gravy for $12.29. The eggs were over cooked, the biscuit was topped with a tablespoon of gravy, but the bacon was good, the sausage was good but should have been flipped because it was cupped and the grit patty was a small portion, not really a patty but a small triangle. I guess I expected more. The biscuit itself was more dense and not "tender", but it was 'Meh", just okay. I would not rush back to this spot when there is a Waffle House nearby. My favorite breakfast spot in Clemson. They have hands down the best grits here. Whenever I travel in the south, I always eat grits. None compare to the creaminess of these. I ordered the strawberry shortcake French toast and it was amazing! The portion size was huge! I could not finish it all... but I wanted too. I enjoy this place the most because they keep the breakfast simple. I've eaten at some upscale breakfast places and the food is horribly overdone. For me traditional breakfast is best, (grits, eggs, a meat and bread) although they do have great omelette combinations for more adventurous people. I'm only sad I didn't get a biscuit or toast to try their fresh made jam. This place is consistently good. I've never been disappointed with a meal here. We didn't have to wait for a table. We went on a Sunday, and although it was charming and the food was good, It was extremely crowded. Do you want me thing on the menu that was not to our liking was the biscuits. We got a raw biscuit and then had another raw one served after that.
