SunPower is hard to work with and breached our contract. We signed a contract for removal and reinstallation of solar panels, which states that the job would be completed within 15 days after the signing date. First they scheduled to reinstall the panels more than two months after the signing date. I thought that was fine. On the scheduled reinstallation date, SunPower sent me a text message saying that they'd have to reschedule. After that nobody even tried to reach out to me. I had to call them twice over a week to find a scheduler who's willing to speak to me and told me that I'd have to wait another one month before they could install the panels for us. 3 months are way longer than 15 days. Storing the 20 huge panels on property is risky and troublesome for us. Not to mention the monetary lost for not being able to use the panels for another month! If we'd known that it would take SunPower such a long time, we'd have chosen somewhere else to store these panels. This is a big company that is very hard to contact and would willingly breach contract. Think carefully before choosing SunPower! read more

SunPower is the only company that we contacted whose equipment is made in the US. I liked not having to choose among a plethora of Chinese vendors for parts I didn't understand. All components are completely integrated into each panel before installation. The only hold up was getting the permits from the city, which took about 6 weeks. The installation went very smoothly, and the crew made sure everything worked OK before the final city inspection, which took only 15 minutes. The follow up from the company and dealer is excellent and the wide choice for financing was a welcome change from other vendors. SunPower made it very clear how things worked and this gave us the confidence to proceed with the installation. read more

Sunpower is so unprofessional. I had made an appointment due to my solar panels not be able to be activated remotely. Technician never showed up so I had to schedule a new appointment. Zak Marmel scheduled me a new appointment which he called me to say technician he scheduled was actually not in California and he had a possible technician still able to come out later in the day. I tried calling him back no answer. This is my second week of not having my panels activated and they don't seem to care whether or not they do. I left him a voicemail he has still not called me back. I keep calling sunpower and they are very unresponsive to setting up a new appointment to activate my panels. I would not recommend this company. read more

If I can only give zero ratings. You're good if you're system is working, once you start having problems with your system good luck to you. I have my system installed by SunPower through my home developer. We bought the house brand new and the developer offered a solar system through SunPower, so we decided to have it installed. The first year was fine, we are getting enough power from the system and then after that we are having lots of problems. Before when there is some issues with your system, SunPower people come to take care of it. Now, they have contracted this company named Novasource and this company is a joke. I am having problems with my system since September 2022, and now it's February 2023 and the problem is not resolved yet. They scheduled an appointment with us 5 different times, the first two the same guy came and nothing happened. He said he replaced the circuit breaker but it didn't work. They made an appointment again. And you have to wait at least one month for the next appointment. The next appointment they have to cancel it the day before because their technician got sick. That's ok, they have to schedule again after a month. What can you do? But just to wait for them and hope that the right guy came and fixed your system. Just yesterday, a guy from Novasource came and just look at the monitoring system and left. He said they didn't tell him it was a two story house and he didn't bring a ladder and he need another guy to do it. I don't know anymore, if you call their customer service number you will going to get they same response that they are aware and they will expedite it. If I have to redo it I will pass on this company. Two of my wife's co worker were asking about our solar and I have to tell them not to use SunPower because of our experience. We had the solar agent in our home for hours. He ate dinner with my kids and wife. I was sold by him that I would definitely save money and even get money at the end of my billing year. 2.5 years later and nothing is further from the truth. I've been calling them for 2 YEARS! The answer I have gotten from even the escalation people is, "show me proof you were told you'd save money" and "you signed the contact, so there's nothing we can do". The system has been down, the technicians that have come out have even said the company knew it was a bad system but tried to save money. We paid an average of $170/month...pointed out clearly by the salesperson 2.5 years ago. We have never saved any money because we pay $150/month to SunPower and $10/month to electric company...which would have been a $10/month savings (plus money back promise). But now we're paying that plus at this time, with 4 months left our True Up is at $2,400!! We've literally been buying more wood for the winters and sucked it up with fans in the summers just to not use electricity! They're other answer is always, "that was the other company's fault, they said those things". I've stated, "you authorized them to sell your products, so they represent you". The last guy told me they no longer use that company and I retorted that we all know why, he just wouldn't say it. I concur with many others, RUN AWAY!! HORRIBLE customer service! We inherited a lease after purchasing a home and were given three options: 1) Purchase the lease for $81k which is way more than we would pay for the remaining 18.5 year lease 2) Take over the lease as is without the ability to re-negotiate 3) Send the previous homeowners into collections. Are you kidding me?! Who would do this? One month later another representative tells us we could have re-negotiated the lease when we purchased the home. How nice to find this out after the fact. Three months and several calls later, we are STILL waiting for a promised return call from management. What a joke! There is no way I can deal with this company for another two decades. I just want the panels off my roof and to be done with SunPower. read more

Isabella Mercado did a great job fixing or trying to fix the software issues with Sunpower. I can see that the programmers did a terrible job and hope they can keep it together. If it was not for their customer service I would give them an '"F" since it really did not work the way it should have. I have a new system and was concerned it wasn't performing to its maximum potential. System has been installed now for 10 years and has not once produced even the "minimum guarantee". The monitoring is a joke... my system was offline for 3 months last year and not a peep from SunPower. The local installer "Namaste" finally took care of it. Used to get a yearly reports and a miniscule check to make up for the lack of performance but that stopped years ago. I'm a believer in Solar but don't recommend SunPower. read more

Avoid Sunpower at all costs! I'm sure their reviews are turned off on Facebook because they would all be 1 star judging by the comments I read... I live in a home where solar was put on by Sunpower during construction so I had no choice in the contractor used. I got my meter and called to have my system turned on. Waited on hold for 34 minutes to be told my property is handled by their "new construction department" placed on hold AGAIN for another 20+ minutes. Spoke to someone who opened a "case" for me to be able set up an appointment to come out. I was told I would get a call back to set that up.. That's ridiculous that I have to wait for a call back. Well its been a week and no call back.. I called again today, was put on hold for 37 minutes and then was hung up on! But what does Sunpower care, they got their money from the contractor. read more

We bought a new home which is already installed solar system from Sun Power. Since the beginning, our panels aren't working. We got three appointments to fix it but each appointment had to wait about a month apart. Unfortunately, we found out that the third appointment was canceled even without giving us a call. Our SunPower system was just switched on. From start to finish, we were highly impressed with SunPower. The representative that discussed the system with us explained how it worked and the various options for paying for it clearly and comprehensively and responded promptly to all our follow-up questions. SunPower handled the permitting on our behalf - that all went very smoothly. The installation crew were extremely professional. On installation day, they arrived exactly on time at 7:30am, and asked me to clarify certain details regarding the installation before they started (for example, where on the side of the house I would like the electrical conduit from the panels to go, so that it didn't look awkward). They said that they would be finished by 3:30pm and they were done at 3:25pm - they cleaned up well too. After that, the inspection and approval of the system was very quick. All through the process, SunPower kept us informed and updated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend SunPower to anyone considering going solar! read more

It was 4 months ago I posted on Yelp that the SunPower Solar System went down hard and after significant amount of time spent working with SUnPower Customer Service and Field Service, the Inverter was swapped out. Unfortunately, I am posting to say that this brand new inverter is down hard again. The preliminary fix (per SunPower Phone Support) was to bang on the Inverter box to 're-initiate' the sound sensor. Well, needless to say, it didn't work. I called back into SunPower 1-800-SUNPOWER and they told me it will to 7 to 10 business days before service can be arranged. In the meantime, I am sitting on a pile of silicon generating no energy for me to offset PG&E cost. SunPower is not a good solar panel company to do with business with. I am stuck with them and others can take note of my frustrations and displeasure. read more

Under produces 60% this is a reoccurring problem, in addition to needing the inverter replaced once I have had this system for 6 years and still have very high electrical bills. by the time you notice there is a problem it take's on average 4 months to get it fixed through SunPower. They want to sell you a system but fixing it is not high on there priority. Last year after two separate technician came out to figure out why it was under preforming they determined it was a poor install, "they installed it". They tighten all the wire connections and said it was fixed. Well that got it to 80% for about 3 months and now I am back down to 60% and once again waiting to hear back from them. After 10 years (sun power came installed with our new home), and a new sunpower app, I had no access to my account. I called sun power and Catherine helped me through it all. It's so strange, I no longer had an account internally to sun power and Catherine helped set it back up. My sun power system is not connecting to my wifi and now we have a ticket open. It's just so crazy. Thanks to Catherine, we are one step closer to being connected AGAIN. read more

Absolutely the worst run construction project we've ever had at our house. The project management was completely incompetent; the project was delayed; status updates had to be chased down. Went through two third party installers, the first never responded, the second almost got our roof ripped off because they didn't want to re-enforce it. Fast forward to commission date (6+ months after signing the paperwork) and then the installer doesn't know my city's code. So more equipment had to be installed, delaying commissioning further plus other failures during inspection. Overall.. the worst experience ever. What did I get in the end? A working system and a bill. No apologies, no credit, no nothing. Why two stars? Because in the end, we have a functioning system. It took countless days of my own time and 6+ months, but we made it here. If I ever buy another house, I'll look elsewhere. read more

We bought a model home which came with the solar panels installed. The system itself is fine for now I guess. However, dealing with their customer service is a nightmare. It's been more than 6 months since we moved into our home, and the lease transfer still hasn't happened yet. We did everything we could and stayed on the phone for hours and talked to various representative at their company. The people answering the phone were friendly but it just takes forever to get through to a real person. And most importantly, I don't think their employees are trained property to solve problem efficiently. You get a lot of "I will talk to this other person and get back to you" and they either don't get back to you or you have to wait a while. Lots of headaches and frustrations. I think we will start shopping for a new provider for solar power. read more

Minus 5 Stars ---BUYER BEWARE of this company. I was sold a bill of goods from this company that I leased a system. WHAT a freaking mistake I made. DO not lease a system from this company because they reap the goods from you and they own you for the next 20 years. When you sell your home, hold on to your butt, because they must approve the new owners and if they don't your must pay the entire lease. They are unwilling to help, and frankly don't give a damn. They got there hooks into you and your are screwed. The installers - Solar Alliance of America - another piece of crap company to stay far away. OBTW - it took 9 months to turn the system on. Just because you have solar do not go hog wild with the HVAC system. your bill to SDG&E after a year will be in the thousands. read more
