Stay away from this company if you are thinking of installing solar panels. Do not use this company. After two months of activating the panels, they stopped working. The company says they use a third party to come out and address the issues. That third party has not been responding to the request to come out asses the issues. Even SunPower admits that the third party company is difficult to get a hold of. According to the operator, that third party is called Encompassed Tech Solutions and he gave me a couple of phone numbers for me to contact directly (972-979-3108, 310-334-7493). Of course, none of them worked. I even searched on Google and it cannot be found anywhere in CA. SunPower needs to figure out a way for better customer service and warranty. We paid so much for the solar panels and we are unable to use them at all. We contacted our builder, Shea, and they said it takes about 3 months to get services based on the comments from other residents. Our builder advised us to request compensation for lost generated power due to delay in providing warranty service. Stay away! read more

The worst company ever, my roof started leaking right after the installation and still leaking to this date after 3 years, they over sold a huge system 50 panels, some wrong with the system "not producing enough power, now I am paying SunPower and my utility co. My whole experience with sunpower has been great. They detected my power wasn't on and kept calling to assist me with it despite me not being available to respond most times. Finally they scheduled an onsite tech to come in to fix it. Maleah was right on time, polite, friendly and professional the whole time. Very happy with our decision to go with SunPower, even more so after Dennis Boyce arrived to activate our installation! Dennis first called me in the morning stating that one of his appointments had cancelled, and he could arrive a fews hours before my scheduled appointment time. What?!?! Arrive early?!?!? That never happens! But arrive early he did, and got my system up-and-running within an hour. Once the activation was complete, he walked me through the mobile application, and explained how I could read the dashboard and analyze screens - very helpful. He even suggested prime hours for running energy consuming appliances, to take full advantage of the system. Overall, I'm very pleased with the system, and based on the customer service (i.e. Dennis) would recommend to anyone looking to move over to solar! read more

Had to install a new circuit breaker box. One day, without notice someone started banging on the side of the house. Person was here to remove stucco from around the box but did notify us that he was coming or that he was here. Just started busting out stucco. Also, the new stucco around the new box is cracking all around the patch and new box. Again, no one coming to correct the problem and no communication from SunPower. Told them we expected to get an electric car, it's part of their questionnaire. No room in new box for a charging circuit. When we get an electric we will have to replace the panel again. Well the panels are installed and operating, but since their subcontractor installed the new MPU there is a circuit out. Test meter says hot and ground reversed, but if you move the mess of wires in the box it sometimes goes to normal. SunPower sent one of their guys to verify there is a problem, which they did, but no one has come to fix it. Almost two weeks now having to run extension cords to the dryer and the fish pond. While I'm at it, the old box was clearly labeled with what each breaker was for. The new box is completely unlabeled. Multiple emails and phone calls to our project manager. Very little response from SunPower. Not amused. read more

He gave me tips about how to efficiently get the most out of our solar panels but also gave me a run down of how the utility company rates may still effect my power bill even with solar power. Do not buy these panels. My solar panels stopped working months ago and I have followed up by calling 1800sunpower repeatedly over several months and reached out by email repeatedly over several months and they keep telling me the same lies that the system is working fine even though they send me the statements showing no power generation and my electric bill shows no power generation. The panels did certainly work for a few years but now that they are not working, the customer service just denies it and lies that the system is working. At this point the amount of time they have spent on telling me nonsense has surely cost them more than if they had just fixed at the beginning. They do outsource the customer service to the Philippines so maybe the labor cost of denying reality is better than fixing. read more

I've had my system 4.5Kw system installed in 2011, the Solar company who installed it is no longer in business. I've been having intermittent problems with the Sunpower data reporting last year (2017). I've been able to follow the Data Logger reset procedure in the past to correct the reporting. Beginning in January 2018, the 18th to be exact, the system reporting stopped again, I went ahead and reset the Data Logger, but it never has corrected the issue. Contacted Sunpower support in May, who provided me with the Data Logger reset procedure, which still does not correct the problem, the status lights on the Logger appear normal but still no data is being reported. Another problem is the Inverter LCD display has stopped working. Because the type of problems, (Data Logger appears to be communicating with the Internet), I suspect the Inverter is not reporting the data to the Data Logger. I have again reached out to Sunpower support, but they keep telling me the Data Logger has stopped reporting (yes, I know) and to follow the reset procedures in their document, then they close the case. I went ahead to reach out to 4 different Sunpower companies near me (San Jose) who are authorized dealers. The first company tells me, that i'm too far out of their local service area (Dublin, CA is too far from San Jose) to come. I assure you if I was a new customer I'm not too far. 3 other companies in San Jose, Campbell, and Sunnyvale tell me, they cannot touch my system as it wasn't installed by them, due to liability concerns; they are too busy with new installations; they will put me in their system, but cannot guarantee anyone will come out to inspect my system as they are short staffed. What good is a warranty if you are unable to get any Sunpower dealer to even inspect the system to even get the system covered under their 10 year Inverter warranty, let alone a 25 year warranty on the panels? Sunpower needs to step up, own this, and change the way they run support and stop with canned responses and "passing the buck" to the consumer to reach out and get another Sunpower dealer to inspect/service another companies install. read more

Had issues with our solar system and the tech Warren Grennan was sent out to link our house to the solar panels. He couldn't figure out why our panels would not connect. Took a couple hours and no luck. Had stated his supervisor would reach out and attempt to connect remotely. Zero contact from his supervisor. Shortly after Warren leaving he lost a screw to our circuit breaker and didn't even tell us. I've reach out to Keishon Simpson and the solar activation team with several emails daily. It took 6 days to get a response from Keishon on how his manager plans on replacing our panel screw. No wonder they couldnt figure out the solar panel system. They cant even replace my panel screw. I can only imagine if I had a real issue. read more

DO NOT GO WITH SUNPOWER! Read the reviews first. Basically, we were achieving far less energy then the KW we purchased. We purchased the 6 KW solar panel option and bearly produce 2.5 KW. We contacted Sunpower about the issue, every response is the same "we our working on it, "our engineers will get back to us". We have also multiple failures and "communication" problems. Our neighbor who got Sunpower is having a similar problem and told us his electric bills are high, despite the Sunpower system. We have yet to get any resolve from this. Once you go with Sunpower, you are stuck and get a system that is not optimum and reduced in its promise. read more

I had a great experience from start to finish with SunPower. The solar consultant, Burgess at Hyperion Solar in Pasadena, patiently answered my myriad of questions and provided helpful insight--including recommendations based on his own personal experience of implementing solar on his home. He clearly explained new concepts and experimented with calculations for different scenarios to ensure the value would be there. I had read a lot of mixed reviews before taking the leap to go solar. Burgess addressed each of my concerns to ensure I felt comfortable moving forward. Once it was time for the implementation, Ken Melton and his install team were fantastic to work with. Everyone was polite and helpful. They listened to my feedback and requests and did their best to accommodate my needs--including working around my electrician who was running electrical to the garage at the same time they were running conduit for solar. He patiently talked me through my technical questions (what he could and couldn't do end why) and ensured the job was done as requested. It's been 2 weeks since turning the system on, but so far my everything has been running smoothly. May is peak solar collection time, but we're generating much more than we use right now. Based on my experience with SunPower I would highly recommend them. read more

I was trying to get more panels. But the sales team convinced me that is not necessary base on my past usage. I was like, don't you want to make more money from me? Communication: First, they setup the consultation with you, and let you know everything what the process is. And everything can be done online, but you prefer, you can call them directly. I was always able to reach Jessica Espinoza. She always replied my email within half an hour. And sometimes when I asked questions that she's not responsible for, she would still reach out to her team and find the answers for me. Very professional, Quick, and Responsive!! read more

We chose SunPower after comparing between a few different rooftop solar providers. SunPower's price was competitive, and at least according to the information available to me, they also have the best product: the longest-lasting panels with the highest output in the industry. Panasonic was a close second, at least at the time when I made the comparison. The region where we reside happens to be one of SunPower's direct sales and installation areas, so we didn't have to deal with any middlemen or third party installers. Our sales consultant Steve Gross was honest, to-the-point, and never made us feel pressured. He was open to discussing any question and tried several iterations of our rooftop panel layout until we were satisfied. Before, during, and after the installation, Steve continues to be responsive and always helpful. The project manager was a bit less communicative, and I often had to reach out to him to get updates. But the actual installation crew was professional, did neat and clean work, helped me paint the conduit on the wall (I provided the paint) so it would blend in, and left my house and yard clean. Again, everyone involved worked directly for SunPower. The worst part of the process was waiting for PG&E to issue Permission to Operate, and then waiting for PG&E to update their billing (took many months). None of that was SunPower's fault, and Steve continued to be helpful with any questions we had in the interim. Our usage went up (probably a result of the psychological factor, "I've got solar now so I can use more electricity!") but even so, I think over the last 12 months we netted about $50 beyond PG&E's non-bypassable charges (roughly $120). One other slight negative, the mobile app and website for monitoring power are just OK in my opinion. The app appears to simply be a more limited view of the website. The interface could use some improvement. But I also get monthly solar production email summaries, which are nice to have. I've recommended SunPower to many people and will continue to do so. read more

I have solar panels installed by Sunpower in 2016. The system has a 25-year warranty, but the warranty seems somewhat worthless. A month ago my system stopped working. I have called 6 different times, and still have not been able to schedule a tech visit at my home. I just want to give a shout out to Warren Grennan, he is the man! He is really knowledgeable and gives great customer service. With being new to solar, he was able to answer all my questions and concerns. The ball was dropped as some point during the initial installation of our solar, before we had moved in. Warren noticed the issue and addressed it immediately. What should have been a 30 minute job became a couple hour job. This was a minor inconvenience for me(as a customer) but the fact that he was willing to stay and fix the problem right then and there superseded the extended work time. He is really personable and if you have the opportunity to work with him, then you know what I'm talking about! read more

I wish I could give Sunpower customer service "0" stars. We have 24 solar panels from sunpower and 1 of the panels "flew" from our rooftop and landed by our bushes by our front door. We were lucky and blessed that there was no damage to people or any surrounding areas. I logged this with their customer service center on Mar 24 and requested a site visit to check and make sure that we won't have more panels flying down our home and to replace the one that fell down. There has been no site visits so far. Every second day I call them or send them an email and we still have no response. It is hard to feel safe in our own home with the thought that one of the panels could come flying down at any time. I wish we had never got sunpower solar panels installed in the first place. read more

And this just keeps getting better... After waiting the 7 weeks, the Tech shows up and doesn't have the parts for my unit. He says they have upgraded and will have to reschedule. After a week of waiting, I get a text to reschedule and, you guessed it, another 7 weeks to wait. And, if you look at my last review, there was a response from SunPower telling me to send a DM and I would get expedited, but failed to leave the DM address. There isn't one on the website, so where exactly am I to message? SunPower has got to have the worst customer service there is. Not to mention the lies about how well they monitor the system. My system has not been providing the solar I was promised for the past two years. I have had to wait 7 weeks just to get it looked at and they don't have the parts to repair their system. Now I have to wait an additional two months to have it replaced. What a joke. SunPower, you can call me to reschedule and 7 weeks is unacceptable. Id also like to know when I can expect the check for the solar that has not been generated as promised in the contract. I pay you every month for nothing. At this point, I don't think there is anything you can do to make this right. I will be filing a BBB Complaint but I'm not sure that will do any good. My apologies to the readers of this book but I hope it helps you to stay away from this company!!! read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! We had issues with our module and we were never contacted to fix it, needless to say we ended up with a $1300 dollar bill from PG AND E. We contacted sunpower several times to fix this issue and we were told every time someone would call us back. Their product broke within the first year and we had no idea because nobody caught it including the power source that shows purple color when it is operating properly. I was so frustrtaed at the customer service from this company! Basically, if you get their panels as soon as they are installed dont expect to recieve any more help or contact from the company. They have the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! I WOULD POST THIS 100 TIMES TO SCARE YOU OUT OF IT BEFORE YOU LOSE MONEY BECAISE OF THEM. read more

Either at your direction or Semper Solaris direction you have proceed to perform workarounds to patch the issues, yet system still has never functioned as designed!!! Now I'm reading you have closed the case???? For what reason have you closed the case?? Nothing has been fixed or monitored at this point!! Semper Solar said the unit bring a new unit and it would be replaced on the last service call if needed but then I was told Sun Power would have to authorize the replacement first.. The tech and I were on a call to Sun Power and your solution was to monitor the issue for 10 days (written below) and then fix if need. That was 3 months ago and it has never worked!! I am requesting a new unit be replaces ASAP or the service fee I paid to have monitoring be refunded in whole. I have gone 8 or 9 months without monitoring service and there is no reason this issue should have not been fixed 100% upon the first or second complaint. I am frustrated with your service and I've been told is been the same by Semper Solaris that they have discontinued selling your products because of these same issue with other clients. These types of complaints and lack of service in a highly competitive industry puts companies out of business and I hope that is not your intention. Again, please issue the approval for Semper Solaris to replace the monitoring unit ASAP or I let me know your intent so I can proceed to take legal action to recover monies paid for service and hardware I have not received. Since this is a known problem with multiple people it could lead to a class action lawsuit to if SunPower continues to refuse to take action.
