At one point our system was completely down and Sunpowers poor customer service just dragged out the fixings our system while we rack up electric bills and still paying for a system that didn't work. I called them in January 2023 to let them know my inverter was no longer working. And it is now 6 months later and it STILL has not been replaced. I have spent hours on the phone and communicating via email back and forth with their people, pleading with them to get it fixed and over and over again I am lied to and put off with excuse after excuse. They have sent two technicians out to access it and the second technician had to argue and argue with the rep explaining that the inverter was no longer working, just as I had already told them. That was months ago. The unit is still under warranty and this is how I'm treated? I paid a lot of money for my solar setup and right now it is as worthless as a paperweight. Please save yourself many headaches and steer clear of SunPower, or believe me, you will regret it. Oh and they don't even deserve a one star rating but I had to select something. read more

It is really disappointing to have to leave this review. We had Sunpower solar panels installed on our home in San Francisco several years ago and they have been working well. Sunpower has also done good maintenance, active monitoring and troubleshooting and required upgrades when necessary. So it was a surprise when we experienced so much difficulty trying to get a home solar battery system installed from Sunpower. The process has been chaotic and poorly organized from the start and now we are *frozen* midway through with no one answering my calls or emails for weeks! When I try to call them I am placed in a "musical" hold for at least 30 minutes (at which point I give up). At this point, I am considering going for a Tesla Powerwall instead (and who wants to do that!). read more

Stay far away from this company! My system was not producing for 9 months. After calling them many times they then sent a repair company to fix the system. The repair people did not fix the system and after 3 months of calling Sunpower to get them to fix the system I still have a broken system. Customer service just keeps saying that they are working on it. SUNPOWER SUCKS! DO NOT USE THEM. read more

They did finally contact me after my prior one star review, so a brief update and upgrade by one star. To sum up, I think that they have great technology, but really poor technical support and customer service. I had some problems which of course can happen, but honestly response was so poor and slow that I gave them a 1 star overall despite them being an American company with great technology that I really want to see succeed. As a result of my prior review they eventually called me about a month later and then the guy who called tried his best. My system had started working a few days after my last post which I have no idea was do to my varied interventions or theirs. Not producing as much as it should (and did last year) as far as I can tell, but at least they made something of an effort and they customer service guy called me twice. Thus I am raising my rating to 2 stars. Overall, when the system was sold I was told that in year two my system should be performing to almost the same level as year one, and it is not, after lots of time and effort on my part, so I cannot claim that this is a good situation or endorse this company to others. This really pains me because I am a huge solar advocate and fan of highly efficient systems which I certainly had in year 1 with Sunpower. read more

I've been holding off on this review, hoping we'd get some resolution!  But, alas that doesn't seem likely at this point; so here goes...  On Feb 17th, 2023 we had a second solar array installed on our roof by Hooked On Solar company...   All the business elements and installation (executed by Hooked On Solar) went off flawlessly and I have nothing but good things to say about this company... Our issues started when we had to work with SunPower (Parent Company of Hooked on Solar, and responsible for service)..  Our array monitoring indicated that one of the twenty-five new panels installed was not working (never worked from day 1).  We called SunPower multiple times and went thru resets via the phone with no luck.  Finally on May 2nd a technician came out and spent ~2 hrs. on the roof taking measurements and photos; when he came down he stated the panel was bad and needed to be replaced.  After that we heard nothing from SunPower.  Again, we contacted SunPower and finally on May 24th they sent out a second technician who took the same readings and photos as the May 2nd technician and stated the panel was dead and should be replaced.  Well, again we heard nothing from SunPower for about a month, finally on July 26th a 3rd technician came out and performed the same inspection, measurements etc... as the previous two technicians, and came to the same conclusion that the panel in question is dead and should be replaced.  Well. it's now September 4th (almost seven months from installation), the dead panel is still dead, we've heard nothing back from SunPower, again!!!  My recommendation to anyone looking to install solar, is AVOID THE "BIG" GUYS!  Especially SunPower...  Do your homework.  Bigger is not better, just louder! read more

We had solar installed as a requirement for our new home build at Skyline. After doing our research, we decided to buy our panels as we're looking to keep this house at least 7 to 10 years. This review is specific to Dennis who assisted us with with the activation and setup. He arrived early, turned on the panels and hooked it up to the WiFi. I have had Sunpower Solar panels for the past 8-9 years and they work very well. My roof, however is 23 years old and I need to replace it. The contractor who installed the panels, Bertek Energy, indicated that they would not remove/replace the panels unless they also replaced my roof. Their estimate is CONSIDERABLY higher (10k) than my other estimate. I'm pretty sure it is just a scare tactic, and after reviewing my contract I see nothing that bonds me to them for the roofing. I tried 2x this week to call Sunpower's Customer Service line which seems to a be a call center in the Philippines to confirm the same. Despite the fact that the representatives were able to parrot back my questions, their responses bore no resemblance to what I was asking, and in the first case there were chickens making noise in the background while the representative was talking to me. He apologized for them. Wow! I am going to roll the dice here and go with another roofer. read more

We had Sunpower solar panels installed in 2015 via ProVoltz. They worked well the first several years. Unfortunately, after receiving the annual true-up from PG&E this July, we figured out that the system has been in a decline since early 2018 and in fact stopped producing electricity since early 2019. We called into Provoltz in August which routed us to Sunpower as they are no longer in the installation business. At first Sunpower refused to take our calls saying that we should speak with our installer and this went in a circle for a few days. Provoltz informed us that our model of panels has a known issue with inverters and an attempt was made to reach out to all the installations to resolve and unfortunately no one contacted us. We finally reached Sunpower customer service in August and were informed that they need to assign us to a subcontractor to resolve the issue. A few weeks later we were informed that parts are not available and that they will reach out to us once parts arrive - mind you with no insight at to an ETA. We have been trying to reach out every week or two since then and have typically received the same response (that is when they deign to respond) - parts not available - they are sorry and will reach back out to us. Quite often we don't even receive a response and our "contact" that is responsible for our ticket never picks up the phone; we believe that the number she gave us - is just her voicemail in box. Overall, we have been receiving a response for every 4-5 calls/emails that we send. Service is terrible and while we did manage to get compensation a month ago...we are still sitting with a non-productive system. Based upon how long the system has been non-productive, we are easily out over $2,000 for a system that we paid over $20K to install and the electric meter continues to tick while we wait for a response for parts that may or may not come. We are at wits end trying to figure out what to do next including reaching out to the Better Business Bureau or to filing a compliant to the NBC Bay Area TV station. Needless to say this has been and continues to be a terrible experience. Sunpower customer service clearly doesn't care to respond and we highly recommend that if you are looking to do a solar installation to run and look elsewhere no matter how nice the marketing brochures make the Sunpower panels seem - Sunpower is not worth the aggravation! read more

Nov 2020 Update: I now have Sunpower installed from 2017. Every single year the system has generated much less than what was promised. On an avg it has generated 1100 - 1400 KWH less per year every year. I now have 4 years worth of data. Sunpower as a company is extremely difficult to deal with after installation.... basically day-2 support. I have tried reaching out back to the main sales person complaining against this lower generation and I have not heard back. Calling Sunpower support is next to impossible. I will keep trying till they fix my system. Sunpower team, if you are reading this, please reach out to me and help my issue. Please remember its not just about selling a product, after sales support is what makes a company or breaks it. Amazon is a great company only because of their support after sales. In 2018 there was an issue with the panels and they said they are going to replace every single micro inverter since there was some issue with the original one. I am suspecting they did not do that at all. This may be the reason why my system is not generating enough power as promised. Again an impossible company to deal with. read more

We recently installed SunPower panels on our new build using Freedom Solar in Austin, TX. The panels are awesome! Since the SunPower panels do not have any grid-lines, they are nearly indistinguishable from our black shingled roof. Having already experienced a Central Texas Summer with the panels installed, I can safely say that they are worth every penny. Between the reasonable upfront cost, the tax savings, and the savings on our electrical bill - we are more than happy with our purchase from a fiscal standpoint. Our electrical bill in the Summer months averaged less than $15 and we had a credit/surplus for most months this "Winter". Also, it's worth mentioning that our home appraised for quite a bit more post-solar installation. Lastly, the mobile app is easy to use and has a user-friendly interface, showing you savings/electrical 'production' for each month. read more

Update #2 - On the plus side, our installer (Highlight Solar) managed to convince SunPower to provide all new microinverters. Highlight Solar has been out and replaced the inverters and changed the monitoring sensors on our breaker panel to give us more accurate readings. After sending my phone number to SunPower I have had no contact over the phone from them. However, on October 10th, SunPower emailed me. I've responded several times and they have yet to reply. SunPower's monitoring website still doesn't show power by microinverter, and I still see no way to add a notification for a bad inverter or any kind of alarm. So this isn't going to be an installation we can just ignore and rely on. With the unexpected failure of SunPower's microinverters and no warning we'll have to keep a watchful eye on our production. With no individual microinverter status, we'll need to measure our solar output against expected insolation for a given day and external websites showing solar for the day given the actual weather. If it starts to drop, we'll have to contact our installer again. Can you imagine doing this over the 25-year lifetime of the installation? If I could do this over, I wouldn't use SunPower microinverters. I'd use some kind of microinverter system that I could monitor locally and manage myself, or I'd use an old-style big grid-tie inverter that all the panels would hook into. If SunPower wanted me to change this review, they'd need to provide me with some way of viewing our capacity per-inverter on their site, and I'd want some kind of alert if a microinverter failed. read more

My wife and I decided to add solar panels to our house last year. After doing a bit of research, we settled on an installer called Freedom Solar here in Austin, Texas. Freedom Solar uses SunPower panels. While they weren't the cheapest option, they were definitely the best bang for the buck, in my opinion. The system that we came up with perfectly meets our needs. The installation process was almost entirely taken care of for us, all we had to do was sign a few places and pay. The process was relatively quick, and handled professionally throughout. As for the panels themselves, we have had no issues. They continue to produce enough energy that we are carrying a balance with our energy provider! They even look pretty good on our roof, if I do say so myself. I could not be happier with our solar energy system! read more

I have a new build and SunPower or a sub missed a major issue: The electrical (through conduit) was never run from the solar panels to the electrical panel. This was an ordeal. However, the SunPower technician - Francisco Lemus - coordinated with the roof subcontractor, waited in his van for the roofing and electrical subs to finish their work and then completed the work. Francisco was patient and very courteous and professional. I give 5 stars to Francisco for his coordination of the trades with SunPower; however, SunPower has some issues. The rating given is for Francisco. For SunPower, I withhold any rating. Their account management in San Jose was not great to work with and, obviously, their work on my install was lacking. read more

You will be abandoned after install! Waiting since an Oct install to get broken tiles fixed, a new panel that was installed with deep gouge in it replaced, and for the online monitoring to work as advertised. you open a support ticket, they say someone will check it out, nothing happens. Do not Purchase or have this company install your solar panels. They do not honor any warranty work. They changed out my inverters 31 of them and took my monitor Capability a way, and how wants to charge me to change out my inverters and install a monitoring system which they originally removed. Very bad company....please tell your family and friends do not buy from them... read more

Within a year of having a house with a sun power lease we have had multiple issues. The most current is all 12 of our micro inverters are out. Took 2.5 weeks to get a technician just to confirm this issue and has been another 2 weeks of getting told they are still looking into it to get them repaired. My solar has been down for over 2 months now with no updates unless I call myself. When I call I just get told by the end of next week we should hear something. This seems to be a normal way for them to do tech support and repair but are never late a day to pull the payments from a bank account. I would strongly suggest looking into another company as your solar provider as I will be doing the same myself at this rate. read more

My 5-Star rating is really for SunPower's technician, Warren Grennan. If it weren't for him, I'd downgrade my rating from a 5 to a 3 star review. This is my first experience with solar and it was installed as a default with our new home build. At first, SunPower was great. Their team was on top of me to get all of the info needed to connect my solar panels to the electrical company's grid. Because we hadn't closed escrow, we didn't start our electric service and the calls and e-mails kept pouring in. Once we closed escrow, I submitted my info and everything went silent. No follow up calls to let me know it was connected or anything. When I called to find out status, I was told that the representative working with me went out on extended sick leave and no one took over my account. That's not good service. When another representative took over, everything went really well again and I was finally connected to the grid! About a month and a half later (now about 3 months after we moved in), I get a call from SunPower saying they need to set up an appointment for installation to connect to the grid. Huh? My first thought was that these were con artists trying to trick me into something, so naturally I asked a ton of questions. My solar was already connected to the grid, so what installation was needed? They mentioned something about a computer to monitor output, but that didn't make any sense since my system was already set up. When Warren showed up, I was still skeptical. Warren was great and explained that he would be installing a computer that was supposed to go on the wall where a mount was already prepped. He was meticulous to ensure that it was mounted correctly and looked good on the wall. He then assisted me in setting up the SunPower app and walked me through the app so I would know how to use it. He was great. About 2 hours after he showed up, he was done! I truly appreciated Warren. I can't say that I appreciated SunPower for not telling me that the computer would be delayed. At this point, I don't have any other complaints with SunPower. The solar panels are doing their thing and I'm seeing the cost savings on my energy bills. read more

I had SunPower panels installed in late 2016. Unit performance started to degrade in 2018, but apparently it's up to me to notice this. When I finally saw that I was down almost 50% Year on Year, Sun Power took many months to acknowledge they had provided defective equipment (not just for me), and took many more months of replace it. Now they are refusing to do any make good for the 2.5+ years of degraded performance. I would stay away from any Sun Power equipment, and if you have it, I would do a year on year comparison to see if it's starting to fail, like mine did read more

The call I just made to Sunpower was handled very professionally and resolved my question properly. Cath was patient with me and helped me. That is more than I can say for the solar panels they installed. They have very little good impact on my electric bill and I still have to pay Sunpower $138 a month. I think they installed the panels on the wrong side of my roof, but they won't admit that, or fix it, and so the solar boost is minimal. I am pay considerably more for electricity now than I did before Sunpower panels were installed. read more

Our system has been down since November! Yes November. Every month they send someone who is supposed to fix it, yet every time someone shows up they say they can't fix it and we need a new inverter. So when is the new inverter going to be installed. Who knows? Never? Meanwhile we are getting huge bills from SCE, while also making lease payments on our system. Worst company ever. All talk no action. I do not recommend anyone ever use this company. I can't believe the attorney general in California hasn't looked into this company. We can not be the only ones with these issues. read more

I had specifically asked the Sun power representative this question before installing and was told that they notify you if there is any issue with the panels. They don't even bother giving a headsup that the service is canceled - I had to call, wait for 35 minutes to hear, we need to reschedule for a later date ... My neighbors complained about the Service requests going unanswered for weeks and months. Take your business away - The only reason I'm stuck with these is that my Builder (seemingly picking a cheap company) selected them. Not a good company to deal with after you sign the contract, solar date was delayed by 2 months of the originally scheduled time to be up and running. I end up paying SCE and Sunpower for 2 months, when I called to get reimbursed for the SCE bill got pushed around to 3 different departments, the sad part is I actually paid more than any of the other solar quotes I received, which the presentation was better explained. I bought SunPower because I believed that their panels were the best in the industry and that, although they hire out the installation, the company itself stood a good chance of being around should anything go wrong. For a while all seemed ok. Then despite months of warning messages, on the app and automated emails from the company, that the system had problems I couldn't find out what was the problem. The company is not very responsive and only got back to me when I called my salesman directly. Eventually SunPower arranged for a different installer to replace all 16 panels. The guys doing the switch-out said that there was "a problem with the micro inverters." That was a couple of months ago and my app still has a red warning stripe saying that there is a communications problem and that I should not worry, that my system is most likely operating. Might be, might not be--who knows... I expected better. 10.25.18 The above got a social media monitor for SunPower to contact me. Sun power took 1 month to get permission to operate from utility company. After receiving permission, they took 7 more days to make it active. App was fluctuating between connected/disconnected. Meanwhile I was loosing my money in electricity bill. Sorry to say, but I am not at all happy with your service - Sun Power. Lot of scope to improve. read more

I am in the process of seeking quotes for a solar pergola and solar roof. Explicit in the information I am providing vendors, including SunPower, are the facts that my system will be off-grid, battery backed up, and I wish to use solar shingles on the roof system. SunPower's response? A screed on NEM 3.0 (only applies to on-grid), useless information about their solar panels to place *on top of* roofs, and a comment that "solar pergolas are too much work". Seriously SunPower, if you can't listen, and don't want to do solar work, just leave the industry. read more
