When the team arrived I was not home but I received a text from Keith, the owner of Power Solar structures letting me know he was familiar with these roof mounts. Keith suggested that because it was an old Solar City system installed before hardly anyone ever needed removal and reinstall, my contract probably showed TESLA would be obligated to remove and replace the 20 panels for only $500 total. I proceeded to check my original contract and sure enough, it absolutely showed 499 rather than $6000. Apparently, this changed shortly after Tesla bought SolarCity. I texted him back thanking him for his honesty which I've never doubted and as I've worked with Keith before and can vouch for his complete honesty--sometimes brutally so. If only all solar contractors were this trustworthy. Tesla won't be doing it anywhere near as promptly, but I can put a tarp over the panels for a couple months to save a net $5,500. The owner of that business recommended Sunlight Electrical to fix my system. I spoke with Carlos at Sunlight. He sent out Isaac who seemed very capable. Isaac's assessment was that my system had multiple wiring issues and recommended a service that would require a larger team to complete. He explained why, and I concurred with Isaac's recommendation. Carlos scheduled a larger team to come out the next week. They were led by Jesus, who also seemed quite knowledgeable. Jesus and his team worked diligently for 4 hours. They found more wiring errors as Isaac has predicted. And they found a damaged Tesla MC2 unit on the roof which had cracked. After they completed their repairs, the system started operating better than it ever had before. I estimate that I am now getting an extra 10-15% more power from the solar panels. In addition to providing capable technicians, I really appreciate that Sunlight is so easy to work with. I asked several highly technical questions and always got thoughtful answers. If you want something done a specific way, just ask them. They have such a positive, customer oriented attitude that makes them a pleasure to deal with.
