My PG&E at-a-glance savings this month with Solectric solar panels.
    Michel J.

Daniel and his team were superb. I came into this not knowing a ton, but the team all did a fantastic job explaining each step. They did all the extras required for picky Davis inspectors. From sales to equipment to project manager, all kept me in the loop during the process. Solectric handled PG&E, made sure someone was here for all inspections and appointments. It has been a year and I couldn't be happier. In case you are on the fence and not sure, this is your message to go for it. My bills are low if not zero, my tax return was great. I met with a lot of companies, but Solectric's service was above and beyond.

I had Solectric install solar panels on my home after researching many other companies. Dan was able to answer all my questions and his staff was very easy to work with. I was on the roof during the entire install to checkout their work and can attest they are very detail oriented with great workmanship. Solectric was able to install a system meeting 100% of my energy goals. I'm very happy with the company and it feels great going solar.

I hired Solectric to install a large solar project (35 panels). The panels they bid are top quality SunPower. 25 year labor and part guarantee. Impressive. Daniel and his crew were professional and did very clean work. They ran all the conduit pipe thru the attic so all you see on my roof are the panels. It's a very clean look. In addition I had a level 2 charger installed. Again very professional. Check out my pics.

Let me start with telling you that I'm the type of person that will read reviews for hours before deciding on a product. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and will check their ratings for just about anything before I buy something new (example...white cloud toilet paper is far better reviewed than any other toilet paper, and much cheaper). I probably spent a dozen or so hours sorting through reviews regarding solar contractors, solar panels and inverters. By the time I actually reached out to several contractors for estimates, I had already read through dozens of reviews and spoken to neighbors on Nextdoor.com who had used different contractors. When the estimates started to come in, they were all within about 5-10% of each other, with solectric and one other company being tied for the most competitive bid. However, with as much as I was spending for my system overall, I wasn't going to make my decision based solely on who could do it for the least amount of money. The estimates I got were all using the same product; so the difference in price, at least from my perspective, was the level of service I would be receiving throughout the installation and beyond. With that in mind, I sent each contractor an email with a few basic questions about their proposal. Daniel at solectric was the most responsive by far, and had the least "generic" response. Just from his emails I could tell how much pride he took in his work. He offered to walk with me around my neighborhood and point out imperfections in other installations that he would not tolerate in his own work. I didn't take him up on the offer because I was already sold after exchanging a few emails with him. After I signed the contract and the building permit was approved, it only took a day and a half to get the system installed. Getting a SMUD inspector out for the final approval was actually the longest part in the whole process, but Daniel did a good job of cc'ing me on emails he sent to SMUD and what the status was of the final inspection. When SMUD finally made it out and gave the go-ahead to turn the system on, Daniel was out the next morning to turn on the system and show me how everything worked (he also brought a 12-pack of my favorite beer!). I'm really glad I went with solectric, and I recommend them to anybody who is considering solar. Throughout the whole process, I was treated as if I was a personal friend of the owner.

It's now been over two years since our solar system was installed in Sept 2023. The installation itself went smoothly and the team worked hard to make sure everything was completed in time to meet the PG&E application deadline. Everyone I worked with was professional, friendly, and easy to communicate with. After the installation, I had a few questions and the team was quick to respond and genuinely helpful. I really appreciate knowing that their support didn't end once the system was paid for and that help is always there if needed. Since the installation, our electric bills have dropped significantly, and we haven't experienced a single issue. The system has been running efficiently and doing exactly as proposed. One of my biggest concerns at the beginning was having work done on our roof, but after two years and plenty of rainy days, I'm happy to say we've had zero problems. Overall, it's been a great experience, and I've already recommended Excite Energy to several friends.

I am hoping their workmanship and post-installation support is not commensurate with the customer service I've experienced to date. - My project was scheduled for installation on December 8. I was told installation would take 2 to 3 days. - Leading up to December 8, I was told installation would instead start on December 11. No explanation or apology was provided. I was at least reassured it would still be a 2-3 day process. - On December 17, installation remained incomplete. I was told installation would be completed on December 22 and that an inspection would be completed on December 23. - On December 22, I had not heard from Excite all day. It did not look like work had been done on my project. I called and asked if work had been done on my project. I was told that installation had been completed earlier in the day and that the inspection would proceed as planned. - On December 23, the inspector showed up. Excite did not. I called Excite multiple times and couldn't get anyone on the phone. I emailed and could not get an immediate response. The inspector left. Heath eventually called me and I learned for the first time that: (1) installation had not actually been completed, even though I had been told otherwise; and (2) the inspection should have been postponed, but wasn't. Heath took no ownership for the miscommunication about my project completion, the fumbled inspection, or my project generally. He would not commit to a firm plan or timeline for completing my installation or having the inspection done. - So 2+ weeks into a 2 to 3 day installation, my project remains incomplete. Other than my brief call with Heath, throughout the process I haven't been provided proactive updates about the prolonged installation time, updated timelines to completion, or really any pertinent information. The job site was also left unkempt on a day to day basis. A waste basket's worth of debris was left around my property and the interior of my home was left incredibly dirty. - As it stands would not recommend Excite to friends or family.

We expected it to be higher, since we moved to a much larger house, but triple?? And that is with us being extremely conscientious about our electrical usage - all LED bulbs, timers etc. Nevertheless, after spending on average $600/mo in the summer months mainly due to AC/Pool/hot tub pump usage, we had to look for another alternative. And so our solar mission had began. For the next 6 months we had spoken to several solar companies and looked at every possible solar scenario. At one time, we had even put a deposit for the installation, but at the last minute, the company had informed us that they would not be able to put as many solar panels as we had agreed, resulting in us withdrawing from the solar contract. But as we know, whatever happens is happens to our best, so eventually, after an exhausting search for various options, we were presented by a proposal that we found to be particularly good. Now before I get to it, I have to say that each family may have a different situation which may justify different solar solution if at all. In our case, we were not able to benefit from the tax credit, so purchasing solar panels would not make much sense. At the same time purchasing solar panels would still be a more preferable option than leasing the same panels. We definitely did not want to get in any kind of equipment lease. That's when we met with Mike Zsoka (mzsoka@v3electric.com) and Jake MacNeil from V3 Electric, who proposed to us a hard to refuse option of buying power not from PG&E, but from V3 Electric solar company they worked at. In exchange for our long term commitment to purchase electricity from them, they would install the top of the line solar panels and equipment, and maintain it for the duration of the contract. Why we found it hard to refuse? Simple - our 20-year commitment to buy power was at considerably lower price per Kw than buying the same power from the PG&E. In fact about 50% less with no tiered pricing, no penalties for high usage, and a modest 2.99% yearly increases to keep up with inflation (the average PG&E price increase per Kw/h in 1986-2016 was 7%). So even 20 years from now, our electricity bill will be less than what we were paying last summer. On top of it, our ability to use power greatly expanded since the new solar panels are generating more power (~19-21K KW/h per year) than what we used last year (~16K-18K Kw/h). This will help us with the accommodation of an additional family members that are now living with us, and allow us to add more power using amenities in the near future. If we decide to sell the house and move, then the new owners can take over the plan if they are inclined to do so (and why would they not?), or we can buyout the panels at whatever the depreciated price would be at that particular time, and include it in the sale price. In either case, we felt the presented offer was an excellent deal and agreed to sign it, with no upfront cost of any kind. The installation process was fast and straight forward, and we got the latest 375W GE solar panels, with top of the line equipment. Now, almost a month later, we are very happy not to deal with the ridiculous PG&E tiered pricing system and start saving money. With that said, we can definitely recommend V3 Electric solar company, and specifically Jake MacNeil and Mike Zsoka (mzsoka@v3electric.com), who we found to be honest, punctual, knowledgeable, and very customer service oriented.

This company's communication was terrible. I dealt with three different people who are supposedly…read moremy project managers and had to reach out to them for updates. Getting the various approval levels was painfully slow in fact the time I had to cancel took much longer than the time they needed to get things set up. That being said once I notified them of my wish to cancel they reminded me that I had 10 days to cancel or I would have to pay $2,500 and cancellation fees. If I didn't know any better I would think this is part of their business model. Either way I would highly not recommend doing business with this company based on their lack of response, and their lack of follow-up.

That SunFun organization REFUSED to transfer the solar to the new homeowner, and eventually stopped taking or acknowledging our calls. It wasn't until we had to threaten the new homeowner with a lawsuit that SunFun finally transferred ownership. Due to this, we could not trust any of these solar companies...that is, until Kevin Bedard came to our home, and explained everything in great detail to my husband and I. He took the time to hear about our concerns, and he showed us how he truly cared. Any home renovation project has bumps, and this one had its fair share: after initial install they monitor the systems production remotely to see if it's doing what it's supposed to/expected to, and my system was initially under-performing. They caught it and sent out a team to problem solve it, which took a couple tries, but they didn't drag their feet, they kept on it and kept at it and got it resolved. It was no fault of theirs, just a technology glitch. Core fear was that they would give up after a couple failures and leave me following up with them to get it done, but I never had to worry about that. I also did not end up liking where they placed the control box- it was something that was going to make future maintenance of my house trim problematic down the line. They willingly moved it up a few inches for me (and my only complaint was the team that did that didn't patch the original hole as efficiently as they should have. If I had understood the box placement better on the first pass that would never have happened, so this is a bit of a complaint of my own making.) Jon Landsman, who sold me the system, stayed with us the whole time tracking the project, checking in, and following through on every detail, every question, every concern. He never made me feel like the demanding diva that I am, was always prompt and gracious! The bottom line is that start to finish, even with a few bumps in the road, I have zero question that this is a company that legitimately cares about doing what is right. And when we DO replace our unit-I don't need Yelp-I'll just call Phoenix Energy Systems and you should too! PS-this is the service that made me join Yelp, so I can give Rich and PES 5 stars (and not 10 as others have noted)." *********** Since then, I've been on PES REST plan (their annual maintenance contract for 1 AC and 1 heater/furnace tuneup per year). I don't review routine service calls, but go ahead and imagine about 3 dozen 5 star reviews for keeping my systems running and functional as they met and then exceeded normal life for these units. Well, all good things must come to an end. The AC sealant gave out, flooding my attic and into my master bathroom. After much consideration, I came to realize that it was time to replace the AC, and possibly the equally old and increasingly troublesome heater. So Micah came over and presented several options and discussed which ones were SMUD rebate eligible. I went with the bundled (and SMUD rebate eligible) AC + Heat Pump combo. Micah and his son (already an industry veteran and very capable) arrived bright and early (e.g. right on time) and 10 hours later - old units removed, new units installed. The big surprise was *nothing* - e.g. none of the clunks grinds, whooshes, strained sounds of the old system. Just nice cool air evenly distributed throughout my 3/2 bungalow. The old system kept the master suite at temperature, but ran hot summers and cold winters in the kid's rooms at the other end of the house. Remember folks, true power doesn't roar - it whispers. And of course, thank you Phoenix Energy Solutions for fair pricing and top notch professional HVAC services.
