At last! This supermarket sells many ingredients to cook Singaporian and Malaysian cuisine. We found different flavors of kaya coconut spreads (a breakfast staple in Singapore) and lemon/lime leaves (the only supermarket I know that sells this!). They also sell Black & White Evaporated milk (best ingredient for hong kong milk and coffee), award-winning Chaokoh Thai coconut milk (good for curry and anything), and lots of snacks including authentic Macau egg rolls, etc. See pictures. 2 stars for banh Chung. The Banh Chung's fat/lean pork ratio was so off! They had very little mung bean filling and no pandam flavor whatsoever, plus along with slight yet obvious rotten taste followed. They were Just extremely SAD Banh Chung. I was quite excited that I found Bach Chung in NYC! I thought I no longer needed to fly to Dallas to get them at Viet Tofu. What a pity I was deadly wrong. Anyway, I only hope other frozen sticky coconut rice cake packages would be decent. Update today: 5 stars for sweet sticky rice cake packages. They are so delicious!!! Steam them and serve. I found that most other supermarket in chinatown has a very limited selection of Vietnamese goods while this place has a more extensive selection, especially the seasoning section. Prices are typical for New York. The fresh produce is unfortunately limited but other supermarkets in the area have a good selection of those. I mainly come here for seasonings and pantry staples. read more

I googled "Vietnamese grocery store" and this was the first store that came up, so I went. I wanted to try making pho at home so I was looking for the ingredients (I had pho earlier that day and I thought I'd forget about making pho at home, but it actually made me want to make pho at home even more. It would be nice if I could make it at home rather than having have to trek over to Flushing/Chinatown area every time I have a craving, which happens often). The narrow aisles were packed with many sauce and ingredients that I've never heard of. It was a bit challenging to find the ingredients that I was looking for, but it was fun to explore and find interesting products. In the end, I was able to find two products that I was looking for - pho spice set with gauze pouch (with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise) and pho noodles. It was most difficult to find the right pho noodles because there were so many. But when I asked the staff, he was very kind and let me know that I can choose from either the refrigerated wet noodles or the dry noodles. Staff's english may be limited but they were very much willing to help out, and I really appreciated the attitude. The ingredients are all super cheap, similar to other supermarkets in Chinatown. Chinatown supermarkets tend to close early these days, so I recommend going in the morning if possible, especially since the neighborhood is packed on afternoon weekends. Credit card is accepted with $10+ purchase. Also my mom and I were raving about how fresh the bean sprouts are - they are generally great quality if you get them in Chinatown compared to the packaged ones sold by Amazon Fresh or the Japanese grocery stores. The bean sprouts in Chinatown comes in bigger portion and are cheaper. Definitely recommend them 100%. read more

It's so hard to find a viet grocery store in NYC, so I'm happy I stumbled across this place. The workers are pretty friendly and they have a decent selection of products. They don't have much produce, but they do carry more Vietnamese groceries than the bigger markets around. Also, the prices are better and the checkout line is much shorter as well. Tan Tin-Hung Supermarket is a small Asian grocery store with Vietnamese imported products. I came to look for banh tet (sticky rice cake) and banh da lon (steamed layer cake) but unfortunately, they were sold out of those items most likely because of the shopping rush prior to lunar new year. The supermarket is very small with aisles that allow only one person to pass and no shopping carts. Even though Tan Tin-Hung does not have the square footage, there are thousands of items including specialty hard-to-find sauces, frozen cured meats, and various types of flour for Vietnamese cooking. read more

It has everything that I need though and then some --good prepared foods as well if I'm craving nem chua, cơm rượu, bánh da lợn, etc. Note that the Yelp hours are incorrect. The quarters are tight, but they have just about anything you'd expect an Asian supermarket to have plus more here. This is my go-to spot to grab Cafe Du Monde coffee. It is reasonably priced and they don't charge an arm and a leg for a can like they do at western supermarkets. This is my favorite spot for ingredients for South East Asian cuisine. They have absolutely everything! One star less because it could have better presentation but the store is great otherwise! This supermarket carries the most hard to find Southeast Asian goods. From pandan coconut mung bean desserts, to sticky rice with pork or peanuts, to lemongrass, this little shop stocked to the brim with affordable incredibleness, never ceases to amaze me. I visited on a bustling Sunday evening. My Cantonese is weak, but the cashier was the epitome of patience despite my incessant interrogation into four different sticky rice products and a myriad of desserts. She even gave me a handy tip about the savory pork filled sticky rice log. Through it all, she didn't ever pressure me to buy anything. I was further impressed to be able to find mangosteen juice, soursop juice, and passion fruit juice with real bits and seeds of passion fruit at the refrigerators across from the cashiers at the front. From Vietnamese to Thai products, this place is stocked with all the East and Southeast Asian spices you need to make your meals delicious. It's cash only! The store is not as big as other markets in Chinatown but it's well stocked in my opinion and had more spices I could ever find in other markets. There are about three aisles and household appliances all the way in the back. Fresh produce are in front of the store, so grab them on your way in. They do have lots of frozen noodles, fish balls, meats, etc. too. Went here to get banh tet for the lunar year and they have it right when you enter. There is the traditional one with meat, chay (vegetarian), and two sweet options with and without banana. Prices are comparable to what you get in California. I got two! The ladies working the cashier were very helpful and they speak Vietnamese and Chinese. It was a nice feeling to hear Vietnamese and actually having the chance to speak Vietnamese in this city after being here for so long. I'm definitely coming back here to get ingredients to make more viet food. read more

This place has what you need. I swear they do - you know that interesting vietnamese ingredient you weren't able to find at the big hong kong market on Hester street? This is where you get it. Culantro, awesome stretchy fresh vietnamese rice noodles, the right pate for making banh mi plus all the standard sauces and basic pantry items you can get in most markets. For some recipes, the right vietnamese fish sauce or oyster sauce actually makes a big difference so I recommend you check this market out to fill your pantry. read more

This is the best grocery store in New York City for your Southeast Asian needs. I buy all my ingredients for Vietnamese food here, and they have never disappointed me. I hope they weather out this virus because I will dump my money here when this is all over. And speaking of money, this store has the most reasonable prices in all of New York City. From banh xeo mixes to all types of dry noodles, you can find all the ingredients youneed to whip up some vietnamese homecooking. Bought pho noodles here for $1.35. Came in here today to get thai basil. I grabbed a prepackaged bag, took it to one of the cashier ladies and asked how much it was. She replied "$1.75". I gave her $1.80 expecting a nickel back, but she just closed the register and gave me a blank stare as if daring me to bring up the nickel. Hahahah!! Such pluck! Always nice to have another option for a Asian supermarket. For most packaged items, the prices are more or less the same as Hong Kong Supermarket and just a hair above Po Wing Hong. Some things here are worth coming for though, like the Maesri thai curry pastes, which have greater variety and are cheaper than other places in the area ($1.15). This place also has tiny 5.5-ounce cans of coconut milk for $0.85, which are great for South Indian curries which use a bit of coconut milk but don't require the whole can (or several) like most Thai curries. Paying a bit more per unit is better than buying a regular can for $1.30 and not knowing what to do with the rest of it (which spoils in a week after being opened). They also have a good selection of Vietnamese jackfruit/taro chips. The one reason why I don't come here more often is that it's cash only. read more

I highly recommend Tan Tin Hung for all of your Vietnamese cooking needs. Their prices are reasonable and you can get just about anything to whip up a Vietnamese dish. Their che (Vietnamese dessert) selection is by far more than any other establishments in Manhattan. My favorite is the Che Xoi Nuoc. It reminds me of home. The cashiers are always eager to ring you up. They are friendly and service is somewhat speedy. There is usually a man standing in front of the cashiers directing traffic. It can get pretty crowded and chaotic when it's a full house. Remember to stock up on your Vietnamese ingredients prior to the Lunar New Year because Tan Tin Hung closes for almost a week at the onset of the holiday. read more

This is my go to place for any and all of my vietnamese grocery needs in Manhattan (and possibly in the entire city). They carry plenty of frozen cha (fish paste), nem chua (sour vietnamese sausage), lap xuong (chinese sausage, & my fav brand from California), banh trang (rice paper), and other great pantry staples. There is che near the cashier, too. Around new year this is also THE spot for vietnamese to get their new year candies, banh chung, and banh tet. Though the quality to me is standard compared to what I can find in California, it's nice to have a place to buy it all out here. The store is pretty tight and sometimes the produce doesn't look at its prime. But it is cheap nonetheless and the cashiers are always so sweet. Unlike Chi N., below - I have absolutely no idea how to cook Asian food. The closest I've managed was Thai Green Curry Fish, a dish suited for the Helen Keller School of Culinary Arts. I have a great appreciation for this Chinatown grocer, nonetheless. Unlike one of its neighbors down the street (who's name and exact location I repressed after witnessing a rat jump out of a box of ramen), Tan Tin-Hung remains somewhat tidy. It's the only place in the city that I've found to carry freshly made Khao Phoht Piak - a Thai dessert made with tapioca, sweet corn and coconut milk. If you don't mind the consistency of caviar, I'd highly recommend it. Broad selection of noodles, grass jelly / congee drinks, spices, and cashiers who would clearly prefer catering to an entirely Asian clientele. read more
