I went upstairs and was greeted by a young woman on a phone and perused the various goods. I went with Doce de leite (dulce de leche) as well as some bananad cremosa. They also have cashew nut juice which you can't find in most other stores which I partook in. The prices were high but it's quite hard to find these things in NYC and their selection was excellent. She apologized for being on the phone while I was bringing the things over and asked what I was trying to find afterwards which was nice. This is a local business and I'll be back to support it again.

They had some of our favorite junk food, Bubu Lubu... and some imported vegetables (a squash that you cannot find locally, similar to our zucchini). We saw 3 different brands of tortillas... and I'm the refrigerator they had cemitas and other things you can't commonly find in a store. The line moved quickly. They'll charge you extra if you want to use a credit card, but at least they're not cash-only! Piñatas adorn the ceiling, even our teenager was impressed by the place.

There were also Mexican mangoes that had an irresistible perfume. One should always buy mangoes that look and smell divine. Nerob from Bangladesh was the manager here and after chatting in Hindi told me that I was like his sister. Hallelujah!That's all one needs as then bargaining is easy. I am fairly good at this and can whittle off a dollar here and there. I bought two Kesar mangoes from India and two Mexican mangoes for a reasonable price. Both parties were satisfied. S&SC is clean, neatly stacked and a joy to enter. I was also given a samosa as I left. Highly recommended.

Hands down, they have the best blackeye cake I have ever had. The pastry is extremely thin. You will not find a thick piece of dough anywhere on this little pastry. The interior is packed, about 2 inches thick of black eye bean mixture/purée. Which is the main ingredient in this pastry. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in just to try these. They are delicious and you too will fall in love with them!! they're usually packed in quantities of six, and one container is $6, so a dollar per cake is not a bad deal considering how full these are and not doughy.
