I don't ski so I can't speak to how the slopes are but we went to ride the lifts and get a glimpse of the gorgeous view from the top of the mountain. $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and it was a gorgeous ride that we were able to go on as many times as we liked. Had the best snow board instructor ever!!!! Lance is the best. Very calm and patient.....you can tell he loves his job:) We traveled with out 4 year old who refused to stay in ski School, but the staff at "fun land" was caring and understanding of a "scared child" Melanie (melody) was super with our little one and helped me out him at ease making our next day (Sunday) a much better experience!!!! Our little one had a lesson with coach Lori who got him comfortable and on his feet gliding!!! Not bad for a 4 year old who has never ski before. Our friends had coaches: George and roger both outstanding as well!!!! My friend's daughter 7 year old got to ski for the first time after a one day lesson. The staff was nice and really helped me through the tough day trying to get our 4 year old to cooperate. Runs are pretty (only got to do green) great power while here. We stated in pine top. The place could use a facelift :) but I say it's arizonan's best secret !!!!! Soooooo much better than snow bowl. read more

For Arizona it's good, I've gone less and less since high school. They have no competition and they know it, the lift ticket prices are insane for how small the mtn is and how little is really offered. Most busy weekends you can't ride sunrise without the ability to quickly miss people falling and cutting you off. After riding other mountains in Colorado and Utah where the mtn is 3 times the size with 9 times the skiable area because the trees are not closed like sunrise for 2/3 the price of sunrise I just find it harder and harder to come back. read more

I've never been so disappointed in a hotel (or motel). The hotel is a complete dump. There were three heavy set women behind the desk at check-in that had no interest in checking me in. The restaurant is more of a snack bar with very limited offerings. The pool is filthy - with many of the locals jumping in in their clothes - don't you own a swimsuit? The worst were the rooms. My room was so filthy that I had to put a towel down in the shower just to get in - can you say dirt all over the tub? The pillows had unknown stains on them. There are no phones in the room nor is the cell phone coverage good - you have to stand in the parking lot to get a signal. Like I said, the place is a complete dump. I'd never stay there again. read more

didn't ski here last year but recently skied here Feb 2, 2019. Apparently the big 'cyclone' lift for peak 3 closed permanently last year! There was no indication of that prior to our visit this year. Although, I was told by ski patrol we could still access the peak and runs via a short hike. We were warned that none of the runs were groomed and rarely patrolled. We had friends with us who were beginners so ski patrol advised we not take them to any of the runs over there. Two of the lodges up top were closed despite it being a Saturday (including bathrooms). The $1.00 quarter only lockers and other amenities are badly needing to be updated. They should stop Advertising they have 4/6 lifts open but rather 4/4 open. Since of the 4/6, One of those hasn't run in the 4 years we've been skiing here. The other is now being disassembled. They need to be bought out like snowbowl and revamped to maximize the great area and great snow they have. read more

sunrise@sunriseskipark.com This is the only ski lodge you will find in Sunrise, on the reservation. We had booked two rooms for the weekend. When we arrived, we were greeted by 2 guys who looked like they were just released from San Quentin. When we arrived to our room, it was dark, dingy and dirty. We thought they forgot our pillows but they were actually camouflaged under the sheets. Holy Crap they were tiny! Shortly there after, we were greeted by another guest. This one was 4 legged, brown and a fast runner. Barf! We opted to NOT have dinner in their restaurant that night and also decided NOT to take a nice relaxing dip in their cloudy pool. After coming back from dinner we decided to check out for the weekend. They didn't even ask why but gave us a firm NO. After minor haggling, my husband stated loud and clear that we saw roaches so we will not be staying another night. THANKFULLY, we were able to get our money back for the second night. Our suggestion to you, check out the Holiday Inn Express in Pinetop. It was clean, newly remodeled and had a hot continental breakfast in the morning...along with a clear pool! Plus, it was $20 cheaper a night! Amen! read more

This review is meant for any other person trying to learn how to ski and considering this resort. I went to Sunrise to learn how to ski with 3 people who were already very experienced skiers. They recommended that I take a lesson there and this is the reason why despite having a great time, I'm only rating this place a 1. My instructor was Alan who seemed friendly enough. It was a group lesson and it was for 90 minutes. Everything started off great, but then when it became time to actually try to ski down the bunny hill, that's when Alan decided to ignore those of us who were struggling and focus on the 2 people who seemed to get it really quickly. I was not one of those 2 people. These were my issues with the lesson: --Whenever I asked him a question, he would just simply repeat what he already said (which clearly wasn't working and was why I was asking more questions). --The lessons are done less than 10 FEET away from the little kids (12 and under) learning how to ski and how to snowboard. So when/if you lose control, it is HIGHLY likely you're going to smash into the group of kids. I have no idea why they haven't separated the groups more. This is extremely dangerous. --It is not easy to get up when you fall with skis on and the instructor only helped me up once and then going forward refused to help me because I was "half his age". --When the older people in my group fell, he would just let them sit there in the snow, feeling discouraged. I never once saw him try to motivate them, help them up, or try to give them more instruction to improve. --When the instructor decided to take us up on the bunny hill ski lift for a second time, he sat on the lift with me and he actually said to me, "See those 2 in the seat 2 seats ahead of us?" He was referring to the two people in our group who picked it up really quickly. "They get it. They can ski. The 2 people in the seat right in front of us just need more practice but they essentially get it. You, I'm not sure if you'll get it. And those people down there-" He was referring to the 2 older people in my group who got no help from him whatsoever and a woman who gave up. "They will NEVER learn how to ski." What kind of instructor says that? When the lesson was over, one of the 3 who were really struggling in my group, passed me by and said, "I think I'm going to stick with walking." And that was probably the end of her attempt to ski forever. And all because of this lousy instructor. So to recap, I left that lesson feeling really discouraged because I felt really intimidated by just the bunny hill, I was not able to turn and do a C or S in my skis, I could only go straight and go fast (too fast for my comfort while learning). Essentially, I felt I had no sense of control. Here's the kicker though. After my lesson, it was lunch time, and the group I came to the resort with ran into a family friend of theirs at the cafeteria who used to be a ski instructor. He told me he could get me to ski in no time. After lunch, I gave it a shot with him. After just a few minutes, he was able to assess what I learned and he said that the instructor was essentially teaching me bad habits that serve as a quick fix to get people to ski quickly in the 90 minutes but if they ever try to ski steeper slopes, they'll probably injure themselves because it's not the right way to ski. He basically started me all over from the beginning and everything he taught me was different and opposite from what the resort's instructor told me. Long story short, my first day started off terrible. I learned bad habits and was deeply discouraged by the resort's ski instructor. This family friend of my group takes me up the Fairway trail (he just completely skipped the bunny trail because he also noticed it was way too crowded for anyone to really learn and feel confident they're not going to run into little kids) and in a short amount of time got me to ski better than the 2 people in my lesson group who picked it up quickly. Day 2: I did the bunny hill 3 times to warm up and felt in control. I didn't fall at all. I did Fairway 3 times and only fell once the first two times on the steepest part and didn't fall at all the 3rd time. Then, I went all the way up to the TOP of Apache Peak and skied the whole way down and finally started having fun. Great place to ski, but ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE place to learn how to ski. read more

I'm writing a review more as a heads up rather than a critique per se. I skied there the last week of February and caught the Noro virus which I found out had broken out there. 6 days later I finally feel normal. Next year I'm bringing Clorox wipes to wipe every doorknob, faucet and surface I touch ( which is my routine for hotel rooms). I'm waiting for a call back from the AZ Dept of Health to report my experience. How Sunrise Mgmt handles this will be interesting to see. I have a call into their Risk Manager (928-205-1898) It's funny that I'm writing this while watching The History Channel show about the plague! Forget drones. This rarely crowded 3 peak mountain is an excellent weekend getaway within AZ for hitting the slopes, which keeps me coming back year after year! Even on the weekend before Christmas or on President's Day weekend, I never waited more than 5 minutes to ride their busiest lift. Go on a weekday and it is like having a 800 acre private resort! The runs are varied for all skills although there are only a few runs that cross over between the peaks, but an ample number of lifts including one high speed quad chair. Customer service was pretty good to me, as the respectful local Apache people run almost everything. Both my group basic snowboard and advanced private ski lessons were run well and very helpful. Rental equipment is decent but nothing high end. There are conveniently 2 full service day lodges with their own parking lots, a couple of places on-mountain to eat or drink, including one great multilevel day lodge atop Apache Peak. It seems to be family friendly but for adults it also has a decent bar at both base lodges & Apache peak. Unlike other state's ski destinations, there is no base village, and the nearest hotel is a 5-10 minute car or shuttle ride. Aside from the periodic night skiing, there isn't any night life until you reach the town of Greer or the Indian casino that are 15 and 30 minutes away, respectively. read more

Ski School - Took my children to Sunrise after five years' hiatus from skiing. Decided to put them both in ski school. My 11 yr old in the "I never ski'd group" and my 15 yr old in the "experienced, but needs refresher group". What a mistake. The ski school there is so unorganized and basically a terrible waste of money. My experienced teenager spent the first hour and a half in a loop where they teach you how to put your skis on and walk sideways up the hill. They finally went to the bunny hill where she was told there was no one to take her on the mountain and then she was asked to help a younger child go round and round on the bunny hill. My younger son was a bit timid and liked the pace of the school, although I think the instruction was pretty terrible compared to Purgatory where they learned to ski when they were very small. I spent the entire afternoon correcting the bad habits they taught my teen and I had her making proper turns in 2 runs, when all they taught her was to snowplow in 2 hours with instructors. Did I mention she had prior experience? If you or someone in your group is patient and is a solid skier, I would recommend you teach a beginner rather than spending money on a ski school that's awful! Conditions - Was disappointed they're not making more snow. There were some terrible runs with rocks, grass and pieces of tree all over. It's January, not March! You would think since it's cold enough at night they would take better care of the runs. Lifts - Couldn't believe they still haven't updated any lifts. I like skiing on the back peaks because it's less crowded. Every lift back there is terribly slow and has no foot rest bar. My feet were in pain by the end of each ride from just hanging in the air for so long. We are headed back today for a planned second day and my kids are having a blast re-connecting with this activity. We have fun anywhere we go with any challenges. But, I will definitely make my next ski trip plans at another resort! read more

I went in August in the summer off season. I was not at all impressed with the condition of the hotel and it really needs an upgrade. We checked into the hotel and while we were out site seeing the staff gave our room to someone else. I came back in the evening to find someone else in our room. There were several attempts to straighten out why someone else was in our room. It was crazy walking in on someone else in our room and feeling scared and unsafe. They did move us to another room. We went into that new room to discover that it had roaches and dirty sheets. The employees were unhelpful, no one offered us an upgrade or discount, or even a simple I am sorry for what happened. After a long day of driving and traveling in the area, I left the hotel that night after demand a refund.They did give us a refund and I went to Pinetop and stayed in another hotel. I have visited the White Mountain for 36 year every summer and I will never stay here again or recommend this place to my family or friends. read more

Great mountain ( actually 3 peaks) in a gorgeous part of Arizona. A little bit of a hidden gem and much better than Snowbowl overall. Was very lucky to get here on a recent weekday ( Tuesday) with my son when a storm pounded the rim and White Mountains. The powder was unbelievable. The facilities could use some updating but cover your basic needs.I found the staff friendly ( run by the White Mountain Apache tribe I think) and decently helpful. Lift ticket prices are about right. Lunch was not good though wish there had been more choices ( no chili!) Spent most of the time on Sunrise Peak and the lifts were quick with no lines which is nice. I will be back someday. Def best place to ski in Arizona! read more

To summarize Sunrise: ---Sunrise is the BEST place to snowboard in AZ, 1-4 days max or it gets old. ---Its run by chill Indins (not Indians) from the Rez. deal with it you uptighty whiteys. ---They have a high speed lift on the main mountain but the other two mountains will take most of the day riding ancient lifts to get in a few runs. ---BYOB, BYOB, BYOB... BYOB. ---The bar is pointless unless you want to blow a ton of $ on overpriced 8oz beer, screw around on yer stupid iPad and complain about why you suck at snowboarding. ---Food isn't bad (yay Apache burger!) but better options, back in Pinetop / Show low. ---I would recommend Red Devil Italian in Pinetop or Native New Yorker in Show-Low for the post-mountain eat-drink-relax ritual, (all the local Mexican restaurants always seem packed with screaming little kids, plus Mexican food and hours of driving don't always mix...) ---Apache mountain day lodge (high up there) has a decent buffet / grill and AMAZING views, can see Humphrey's peak (aka stupid Snowbowl) on clear days. ---Restrooms are always dirty, cramped and crowded. ---Trail maps are outdated. ---Snowboarders own on this mountain, get in our way and we will run you and your stupid kids over. Deal with it. Don't beeatch about it. There is a bunny hill. ---It ain't Aspen or Telluride. Deal with it. ---Snowbowl has always sucked except on massive powder days, now that they still have no high speed lift and charge the same price as Sunrise but cover the mountain in sewer water... No Dice. ...But I hear its great for kids and noobs. ---It can get really crowded on weekends and holidays. (on Valentine's day its freekin hilarious to see all the angry girlfriends who can't learn to snowboard hanging in the lodge bar complaining about their BF's to each other or their friends on the phone! (AHAHAHA!) ---Snowboarding has destroyed more relationships than text messages. ---This was a long "summary", and I don't hate kids, i just hate your kids. ---Sunrise should thin out their trees, they're so dense you cant do tree runs without destroying yer board, face and jacket. read more

This is the best ski resort in Arizona. They are better than Snowbowl for a number of reasons: many more runs, more lifts, much shorter waits in the lift lines, and an overall lower density of people on the slopes. Compared to the big resorts in CO and CA this is not an impressive mountain, however, that isn't really a fair comparison. I spent Sunday through Tuesday covering all of the 3 peaks, hitting almost all of the runs. I was surprised to see such few people on Sunday, and during the week it was just fantastic having most of the mountain to myself. I agree with the others in that all the lifts except the high-speed one are pretty slow. For example, lift 6 on cyclone mountain took about 13 min to reach the top. As for the runs themselves, there are some really nice ones. A number of the blue runs are nicely groomed and consistent. Many of the blacks have moguls and variable terrain, making for difficult boarding (w/ pp/ hard pack conditions). I enjoyed the challenge, but I got the impression that many boarders avoided them. They also have 2 double blacks that only seem possible with ample powder. As for the greens, quite a few of them flattened out, leading some slow boarders to unstrap and walk. I didn't have an issue, but then again, I am a more advanced rider who enjoys bombing these runs. While I could nit-pick this place, I really think it's a great resort for AZ. You will get the most bang for the buck if you do the ski + stay package between Sunday and Thursday, and will feel like you own the mountain. I will choose this place over Snowbowl any day of the week and will definitely come back. read more

Been coming up here to ski/snowboard for years and nothing has been improved. On a holiday weekend they didn't have the eating places staffed properly. The lines were huge and they were incredibly slow. It would be nice to see some improvements with all of the money they are making. The chairlift operators are horrible too. Try stopping or slowing down the lift when someone falls instead of allowing the next person off to plow into the person on the ground. Ski patrol should it allow beginners to go to the top of the mountain where they don't belong. Well unfortunately there aren't many choices in AZ. read more

Very disappointed. Last time up, we stayed at Greer Lodge Resort and loved it. What a great, family-oriented place. This time at Sunrise was such a let-down. Dingy room, poor customer service. Actually, the customer service on the mountain was lousy too. The parking lot was so icy, but the operators wouldn't put down any sand or salt or anything. Cars without 4 wheel drive were sliding all over and one came dangerously close to my son who was walking up to the base! We asked for directions (trying to decide which base to park at) and again, just received a shoulder shrug as if to say, "hey, that's not in my job description, so I don't HAVE to help you." I get that it's not Jackson Hole, but come on...at least pretend that you are happy to have me here as a customer, spending my money on your mountain. I won't be back. Skiing is too expensive to spend my money where I'm treated poorly! read more

We have been wanting to zipline for awhile now and was recommended to try the Sunrise zip tour. We had never been ziplining or to the park at all so everything was a new experience. The staff was very helpful and welcoming from the first time we stepped in. I even had to refund and re purchase something for my son since he changed his mind and there was no issue at all! Our guides were great and kept the tour super fun and of course very safe! They were very knowledgeable about everything! I didn't want it to be over! We all loved it and the rest of the group that was in our tour made it even more fun! We had a gentleman that wasn't feeling well and not able to finish the tour, they had a van ready to pick him right up and take him to the bottom. My younger two stayed at the bottom and enjoyed the all day activity pass and had so much fun! We stayed til park closing and can't wait to come back! read more
