2.5 stars. First time to the white mountains. The grounds are pretty nice. There is volleyball and a nice hammock and a little play set for younger kids 8 or younger. There are 2 areas to fish from. They have a Jon Boat, peddle boat, and kayaks that are available for free on a first come/first served basis but only during office hours 9-4pm. There is a bigger boat for rent but it was broken. There were lots of trees and shade which we liked. We stayed in the Ash cabin. It was not great. It is old. The "comfort zones" which we later found out were heaters were on and set to 80° when we arrived. It was very warm inside when we arrived and we didn't figure out until too late that we were turning the heaters down to cool things off not off. There were no manuals to help instruct us on temperature control and we had to text the after hours number to get help. It took 2+ days to cool this place down. They encouraged us to open windows at night but not many of the windows (none upstairs) had screens. There is no cooling unit upstairs but they brought us some box fans which didn't help much. The plumbing upstairs was slow and had to be snaked because the sink wouldn't drain. Fridge took some time to cool down but then worked fine. Couches are worn and you sink down into them. We read that every cabin has a fireplace but ours didn't which was disappointing. There was 1 smart tv. We tried to log into Disney but someone else was already logged in. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but then the TV needed a pin that we didn't have. WiFi worked well. The kitchen was clean and had what we needed. The blinds are dusty. We probably wouldn't stay here again unless there were some significant updates. read more

This is a beautiful and enjoyable place to stay! The cabins are very cute and clean. Gorgeous lake view!! Very well managed. We enjoyed a 3 night stay and are looking forward to visiting again. Word of mouth from one of my Dad's coworkers. Rented the "Willows" for one week. We had the best time. Dad and I fished all day and Mom loved the peace and quiet!! We returned over the years to the "Blue Spruce" and "Cedars". My parents have passed, but I returned again to the "Aspens" twice. Will be back in less than a week, this time to the "Poplars". More than just memories bring me back. The management is personal and welcoming. The cabins are always clean, well stocked, and have that rustic feeling that relaxes you. Absolutely adorable little cabin .. tucked in back by the lake. Affordable, cabin is adorable with real fireplace. Bring your own wood though! Comfortable king bed in the Juniper cabin. we stayed a few nights at the blue spruce cabin. this cabin is horrible, both bathroom doors do not close. the gas oven has a vent that does not turn on , this could be a hazard With carbon monoxide, we took the chicken out of the oven And stopped.The floor in the kitchen is sagging horribly and is not ez to walk on. The property is nice but the cabin is in need to be fixed. read more

Lazy Oaks Resort and their staff provided such a wonderful experience. It was a perfect location for a wedding. We were able to rent out the whole resort for family and friends to stay and enjoy the beauty of the woods and Rainbow Lake. We will definitely be going back every year read more

We have been returning to Lazy Oaks for 19 years and routinely stay in the same cabin. Over 2 years ago the property was sold and of course we were looking for some really needed updates. Wow, were we surprised and NOT in a good way. The new owners have hiked up the daily price significantly (approximately 40% higher than a few years ago) with little improvements to justify the increase. Yes, they put down new sticky tiles in the bathroom that are already peeling and yes, they put in a new toilet and vanity (very cheap one) and a larger tv. But the bed is the same raunchy bed and the bedroom still has the filthy carpet in it that is over 20 years old and probably never steam cleaned!!! So tired of greedy people and this is a perfect example displayed by the new owner. They have not even repaired one of the two docks that patrons love to fish from. The cookware is minimal so bring your own is the best advice I can offer or better yet, just skip this place. Although we do not have or bring dogs, the charge noted in the cabin states $20/DAY! The location is great and the cabin we had (Tamarack) was perfect for the 4 of us. It was clean, for the most part, besides the dead ants on the counter and the live ones that popped up a few times. The weather didn't cooperate very much and we were stuck inside most of the time, so having the tv and the fireplace was a big plus. We went up in a diesel truck and they do horribly in cold weather, so when it came time to leave and it wouldn't start, the owner drove from their sister resort (Lake of the Woods) and brought starting fluid and helped get the truck started. He wouldn't even take any money from us for it. Awesome customer service! We'll be back, and hopefully the weather will be better next time. :-) read more

Very nice place , stayed 4 nights in the popular , had full kitchen , plenty of hot water , nice little deck facing the inlet , 3 different BBQ options , we used propane and charcoal on pole , work great , staff and owner s very friendly as we're fellow quest . Close to Hawley Lake which is a strange place , a casino , Kinisbia Ruins . Plenty of trails nearby with lots of wildlife , will definitely be back but will stay in a bigger one with 2 bedroom s apperantly I snore to much. read more

We rent the Blue Spruce cabin with the fenced area and paid extra for it so that we could take our collies. The fenced area had over grown weeds that were higher than my waist and had dog poop in it that had not been cleaned up from previous visitors. I had to clean the dogs up before I let them in the cabin because the weeds and poop would stick to them! There were no pooper scooper in the yard area which they advertise as an cabin great for families with dogs. I thought I would have at least a semi-clean spot for my dogs when we got there and that would be what the extra fees were for. The trash can wasn't even emptied. The furniture in the pictures was not what was in the cabin. The cabin basically had not been updated since the 1980's. There were a lot of spider webs around the windows. We tried it for one night. If it had been better we would of stayed for longer. I was very disappointed and felt they misrepresented themselves in the pictures. The place could be really cute if they did some updates. It wasn't worth the price we paid. read more

With just a little love and attention, this place could be wonderful. But, unfortunately, it lacks that TLC and is certainly not worth the ~$125-$150/night charge ($45/night would be more reasonable for these cabins). PROS: A very nice, family-run lodging business, well situated on Rainbow Lake, in the Pinetop-Lakeside area of the beautiful White Mountains. Free wireless Internet in the cabins. Big comfortable bed. Pets welcome. CONS: Pretty run down cabins that lack the best-practices of motel upkeep. For example: the fridge freezer would not get cold enough to make ice (even if there were ice trays, which there were not); torn window screens were patched with duct tape (not good during mosquito season); the back of $15 K-Mart plastic chair on the deck was broken in half and held together with packaging tape (which didn't work, resulting in pinched flesh); no wine glasses; cruddy old dish sponge in kitchen; no door mat (resulting in tracking outside dirt onto the inside carpet); $10/hr outboard skiff was so dirty we had to wash our clothes after sitting in it for 45 minutes to cruise around the lake; no hot water at all on the last day of our stay; etc etc. In the bigger scheme of things, if a peaceful pleasant time in the White Mountains is what you seek, I'd recommend avoiding the Pinetop-Lakeside-Showlow area altogether; it's all pretty crowded and low-class. The sweet spot in the White Mountains is Greer, where you'll find plenty of well-kept cabins to rent in a heavily-wooded wonderland of mixed conifer forest. Granted, you won't find a Walmart or Home Depot in Greer (as you will in Pinetop-Lakeside), but that's probably not why you want to visit the White Mountains anyway, right? read more

My family and I stayed here once a couple of years ago and we had a great time. For me, having the ability to wake up in a bed and have a fully stocked lake, less than 50 yards away to fish in makes this place worth it. Our cabin, the pinion, was the perfect size for a family of three. My son slept in the hide-a-bed. He said it was comfortable enough. The bedroom had two beds, one queen and one twin. Which meant the dog got her own bed while we were there. I can tell you after all the running around we did everyday the dog was the first one in bed every night. The cabins are rustic and yes you cannot take your time in the shower if you enjoy hot showers. But that's what being in the woods is all about. For the value and excellent customer service I think you will be hard pressed to find another place like this. I also wanted to mention this location seems to attract an older crowd. As opposed to their sister location lake of the woods, which seems to cater to more towards families. We really enjoyed this as well because there weren't a bunch of kids running around. We are heading up again in a couple of weeks to stay at this place. I will give an updated review afterwards. read more

Great peaceful place to relax. We've been coming here for five years. The place is beautiful, the host are friendly and helpful. Easy to catch fish from the dock or shore, so kids have a blast. Perfect place to build lifelong memories for adults and kids. Already looking forward to coming back next summer. read more

We were really looking forward to a nice setting, and rented two cabins (Tamarack and Cedars) for three nights for a family outing. While sitting on the porch I noticed pet hair caked onto my flip flops, not sure where it came from since we don't have pets. I cleaned them and noticed the same thing later. I then looked at the carpet and saw pet hair everywhere so we requested a re-cleaning. Pet hair was also all over the furniture, which didn't get re-cleaned. At night, while my son and daughter in law were tucking in the grand kids for bed, they pulled back the sheets and found a spider in the bed. The last night there I ended up with a spider bite on my leg during the night. We baked cupcakes for a grandchild's birthday and the oven spewed gas fumes into the cabin (Cedars) so strong we had to evacuate and use the oven in the other cabin. The smoke alarm battery dies and the smoke alarm began chirping in the afternoon while trying to take a nap. The bathrooms were complete with moldy baseboards and a toilet that seemed to never stop running. This place has so much potential but needs so much attention it is not worth the $1400 price tag I paid for the two cabins. Were it not for the setting, I would have rated only one star. read more
