Our first time skiing at Sunrise was great, even though there were only a few runs open. When we went they had just got some fresh snow that week so there was some powder and it was way better than how Snowbowl is right now. They had about 3 green Trails open and 1 blue trail open (it felt more like a black to me, but apparently they call it a double blue- No name). The ticket prices are very reasonable and last I checked they are a consistent price and don't change. The quality of the rentals here were also GREAT. They use an awesome brand Rossignol. The boots felt nice and comfy, good quality, and so were the skis and poles. We did a 2 day rental which made everything easier, we got to use our same equipment both days. They have a few restaurants at Sunrise which is very cool, we only got to try the one at the base though. They don't have many healthy food options though, but the food was good. They have a variety of burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, fries and such. It definitely was super busy on a Saturday compared to a Friday, but we had a good time! They also have these cards for the ski lift where an employee doesn't have to personally scan you every time which made things much more easy and convenient.

Went up with the kids over the Labor Day weekend. The weekend goals were fishing, disc golf at the resort and then ride the new coaster. We had never been here so we didn't know what to expect. For the disc golf we had a nice ride up the ski lift and went on to play the disc course. That's when things went south. The course starts ok but then maybe five holes in it devolves into fruitlessly searching for pads and baskets. Where eventually we gave up and walked the rest of the way downhill dodging mountain bikes in the process. We could only find maybe nine holes. And then it got worse when we looked at the line for the coaster which we bought 3 ride tickets totaling over 100 dollars for the three of us. The line looked to be at least a 2 and a half hours. After some arguing we decided to just leave even with the knowledge they offer no refunds but rain checks. We weren't coming back. The ticketing experience leaves a lot to be desired. I purchased my tickets online but they still require you to wait in a long line to get your wristbands. It defeats the purpose of the convenience of buying online. Dining options are also what I would say is very limited. I wonder where the money goes they are making. Enough of it isn't going into the resort. They oversold the coaster tickets. They never finished the disc golf course. They have no real dining options and their no refund policy makes all the more feeling like a rip off.

Went back in 2023 while in Phoneix area for work. I am from Michigan and ski, but the mountains out east are not great and I grew up on groomed paths that tended to be icy so that is unfortunately my comfort zone. My friend and I went to go to the Snowbowl, but due to a snow storm all the roads to sunrise were closed and we where halfway out to Sunrise. There were a lot of trails and overall it wasn't too busy. That being said not many were groomed and there weren't many beginner friendly options. My friend wasn't as good so it made it kind of difficult, however, throughout the day I definitely was able to find favorites and navigate the park sticking to mainly greens and blues.

An amazing park that is operated so well. The snow is gorgeous, all around of the facilities are clean and organized, and all of the activities and concessions are affordable. We had three wonderful days of tubing, skiing, and snowshoeing. The lifts are awesome, and the runs are well groomed. So much fun!!!

The Sunrise coaster is so fun! Sunrise offered buy 2 get 1 so we rode it 6 times total! The last ride we did tandem & flew down the coaster. Highly recommend tandem for more speed!! Fyi, secure your hats etc. My hat flew off when we rode tandem & I barely snagged it. Sunrise did a great job w this coaster!!

Third time here. We came for the summer adventure pass but have also been here to snowboard. Every time the staff is what makes our experience great. Thank you to birdy and rose during our zip line adventure, a crazy (good) zip line! Definitely will be back to get snowboarding lessons from birdy! Also a big thank you to the guys at the coaster! You all helped us have a great time today! Also honorable mention to Neo, all three rules we ran into him and he remembered us! Neo is awesome!

This was my first time ever skiing or doing any sort of winter sport so my review may be bias. I had a wonderful time. The lifts were quick. The employees were friendly and helpful. The first aid dudes were helpful and attentive. (We didn't need them but saw him along his way) I want to go back already, and have my daughter take lessons so I can just go down with my husband. There was a bus that picked us up from our car and took us back! Not that it was very far. But it was still helpful. And there was a rock wall and zip line. Fun stuff.

This is my first time here & I won't be back. This place is so unorganized it's unreal. Save your money & go somewhere else. Waiting in 45 minute lines for a day pass you already purchased online is insane. Then another hour in the rental line. All this on a Tuesday, unreal. Honestly if I would've known it was this unorganized I would've went somewhere else. Quick update: I arrived at 8:45 (park opens at 9) it is now 10:30 & I have been in lines since I arrived. I am still in line to get my rental equipment.

Went skiing for the first time and had lessons with Cory. If y'all see me and my bestie in the skiing Olympics don't be shocked. My other friend had snowboarding lessons with DJ. She's literally the next Shawn White now. Jason was also amazing and so helpful. The staff made my first time ski experience so amazing I would highly recommend to anybody.
Truth? I'm probably not qualified enough to be able to rate ski resorts well. I feel confident rating restaurants because, well, I've been eating for a really long time. And my skiing/snowboarding experience so far comes to twice of each. Granted, I got to know the slopes intimately, but I'm not quite sure that's a good thing. :P But about Sunrise: Sunrise is not an impressive mountain, and its slopes are not "world-class", but for what it is and my skill level, I absolutely love it. If you're doing a daytrip from Phoenix, it's a bit of a drive (2.5-4 hours each way), but the good news is that there's a ton of lodging nearby. The twice that I've been to Sunrise (once to ski and once to snowboard), I was able to truly appreciate the different qualities of the snow grooming. The soft powder on the side made for nice landing spots when I ski-ed, and the harder packed powder central on the slopes made snowboarding easier than it could have been. You can rent everything there, or at one of the half a dozen or so ski and board shops that are clearly indicated on the sides of the road while driving up. The food is not spectacular, but there's always Clif bars. I'm sure later posts will be from people who have vastly more experience, and I will probably cede to their expertise. But for me, I'll continue to drive there and back building up my snowboarding expertise (hahahaha--oh I can't believe I used "snowboarding" and "expertise" in the same sentence in relation to me.) read more

I love going here to snowboard. One of my favorite places! When winter comes and the first big snow storm hits, I can't wait to go! Plenty of runs, multiple lodges to grab some food/drinks, and the staff we encounter is efficient and friendly! Today did not disappoint. With all the recent snow they've received, it was another great experience at Sunrise. read more

I'm giving this a 5-star rating because, as far as Arizona is concerned, Sunrise is truly as good as it gets. I've been to Snowbowl and I was not particularly impressed. Sunrise has more lifts, they're faster, and they lead to significantly more runs. As other reviews have mentioned, it's not perfect, but considering that a 4 hour drive and you'll be back in 85 degree weather, you really can't complain. Every time I've gone, I've had to help people who had never gone snowboarding before, so as you can imagine, there is still a lot of the park I have left to explore. That being said, this place is DYING for a little renovation. But, so are a lot of ski resorts, including Snowbowl, so that point is almost moot imo. read more

Dec 23/24 $50 membership (optional, fee): Purchased the "$50 pass order". Pay the fee, receive your first day lift ticket free. (Saved $13). Also receive 10% off future lift tickets for 2013-2014 season. 1) At home, print form, hand-write details (including CC info and request to sync CC with membership card), email image. 2) Arrive to Sunrise, only to stand in line for 30 minutes to have web-cam image taken, membership card printed. (Used for lift ticket scanning ONLY THE FIRST DAY -- subsequent days you save 10%, but have ordinary lift tickets. IMO, unnecessary redundancy). 3) Was told that my CC was /not/ sync'd. Filled out paperwork AGAIN. (IMO, unnecessary redundancy, loss of slope time). Equipment Rental: Rented snowboard/boots == boots were quite worn, Right one creased along toes causing sharp angle into the toes. Very sore toes by day end on /right foot only/. Left foot fine. Snowboard was excellent condition and functioned perfectly :) Manager of cash register refused my membership card, did not even swipe it. She acted confused. Unaware of the membership card. No 10% discount. Eating: Swiped membership card to pay... FAIL. "Not tied to CC". Hmmmm... no discount (10%), and I'm not standing in line again and not filling out paperwork again (unnecessary waste of time). Nice chili :) Bland iceburg salad, w/ cold chicken (expected, it's in fridge) Traffic/Parking/crowd management: All excellent for pre-Christmas crowd. Slopes: Well-managed, nice coverage in spite of low amounts of snow (to date). Great attitudes from lift operators, snow makers, slope patrol, and food service! High likelihood of sunny days (Ahhh, AridZona). read more

Went to the park to tube with my family. It includes two young kids. Getting passes was easy. Parking was easy at the tube hill. Not only was the tubing hill great so was the staff. They were very helpful and friendly. I didn't see them turn down any requests. They kept the ride flowing and enjoyable. Tubing was great fun for the whole family read more

My friend and I were at this resort from 6/6/19 to 6/9/19 and we had a really great time. The kitchen, menu and dining room had just been renovated and they brought in a Sous Chef that has renovated kitchens and menus in all parts of the world. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. We look forward to coming back again. Jim & Pat read more

The other reviews are spot on! However, I would stay at this hotel again, but only with my son, or other guys due to its proximity to the ski resort. I paid $205 for two nights and two adult lift tickets. For that we got a tiny room with crappy furniture, a television with poor reception, no phone, bad wi-fi, no cell service, and (possibly) not the cleanest beds/linens. Front desk personnel were not the brightest. The restaurant was good for breakfast, though you won't be getting quality food and/or service. Both mornings there were less than 4 tables being serviced by two servers and the service was still painfully slow. One of our servers said they should be slowing down over the next few weeks. Huh??? Bottom line, it's a dump but it beats camping and it beats a 30 minute drive from the mountain base. read more

2010 has given Sunrise good snow. The lifts are slower than XMAS, there isn't much flair, the ammenities are on par for what one might expect out of a reservation, but the runs are solid. There were not any lines the Saturday I was there. If you ski longer than 2 days in a row, and you might get bored since this mountain is only so big. If you are from Phoenix, you should probably go to Snowbowl in Flagstaff instead. Sunrise is not the place for you. ;-) read more
Very impressed with this resort. Comparing it to resorts in ND, NJ, and PA- this definitely is a must to go to. Lots of trails and conditions vary depending on weather conditions, but overall I highly recommend! read more

It's great that they utilize the park during the summer months along with of course, the skiing. They have a slide that you sit on tubes and slide down it. It is accessed by taking a short ski lift up. You can buy a ticket for either a number of runs or however many you can do in an hour or a whole day pass. You can also buy passes for the main lift to the top of the mountain. I believe it was $12 for all day pass. The views are amazing and would be awe inspiring in the fall when the trees change color. At the top, you can have lunch at the restaurant. We had some really good fry bread but the chili was quite greasy. Some people were taking the lift to the top and then mountain biking down, some were hiking. We chose to take the lift back down and enjoy the views again read more

What a disappointment! My family and I decided to go to Sunrise Park Resort here in Greer, Arizona as a morning out to do something active and fun. The resort online advertised zip-lining, a big slide, rock climbing, a bungee jump, tower jump onto a large inflatable, hiking, mountain biking with use of a chair lift and more. We were so excited! We show up and the place looks abandoned. Seriously, no one is around, hardly any customers, and no employees to be found. It was sort of eerie and really run down. We finally found a bank of ticket windows with one open and a lady sitting behind the partition to take our money. Ok. For $67.00 per child (I have 4 kids), she explained that they would have full access to all of the amenities at the park except mountain biking, as that was an additional fee. Ok, great! I paid the almost $300, and we started our adventure. The kids ran over to the large wooden tower with three different levels, which open up to a huge inflatable thing. The kids jumped on it a few times, then wanted to move on to rock climbing. So we walked over to the rock climbing area. No one was there at all to help us. So we waited. No one ever came to help the kids and the sign said not to harness them up without an employee's help. Then we walked over to the bungee trampoline jump and again, no one was there to assist us. We waited again. Finally we gave up, and walked to the downhill tubing giant slide. At first the man operating the slide said my kids couldn't go on it, even though they showed him their passes. So then my husband went up and showed them to him and he then allowed them on. Finally it was time for my 3 girls to go zip-lining. They went and heard a safety presentation, strapped on the harnesses and helmet and loaded into a van to take them up to the zip-line platform. At this point, we could all see that the sunny skies were turning grey, and that rain might be on the way. After a short time, 2 of my daughters fly down the zip-line screaming and laughing, they loved it. So then we waited for my 3rd daughter to go down. Minutes ticked by, but she didn't go. Finally I tracked down an employee who told me that they have a policy that whenever there is lightening within 6 miles of the resort, they have to close down all of the rides for 20 minutes. The rides were closed for an hour. Finally my daughter came down from the zip-line in the van. I asked the lady at the check-in kiosk if they would consider a refund on just the zip-line fee, but she refused. My husband spoke to the manager and he refused as well. What a poorly run, ridiculous sham! NEVER go to the Sunrise Ski Resort! Terrible service, too expensive, and horribly run-down. read more

Great place to go skiing with tons of snow on the mountain and great affordable prices for the whole family. Trust me you will love this place it is worth the trip a great place to take the whole family the outdoors are beautiful the view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking riding the lift all the way down the mountain is definitely a thrilling and unforgettable experience. my 10 year old son loved going on the lift. And skiing too I gotta warn you though the time flies as you're having fun before you know it you will realize you've already been there 8 hours. You can spend the whole day there and it only seem like a few hours. read more

Not the biggest ski resort out there but definitely big enough and there are almost never any crowds. I went on MLK day and the longest I waited to get on a lift was maybe just over 1 minute and the people working there are all really kind and they have plenty of lodges for you to choose to rest and eat at. Definitely more of a beginner mountain and more skier friendly as pretty much all of their advanced runs composed of moguls. I would still recommend coming here if you're a snowboarder living in Arizona though as they do have their fair share of nice runs especially if it snows a bunch within a week. Not too many park features around but enough to have fun with and as expected some runs were a bit icy in the morning but most runs got soft as the day progressed. This isn't going to be as nice as your ski resorts in Vail or Tahoe but definitely much more than I expected and it is rarely crowded, definitely going back soon! read more

Growing up, my mother would take me and my youngest sibling here in the summer to ride the ski lifts up to the top of the peak and we would go tubing/sledding in the winter months. This past summer I came to Sunrise to feel nostalgia but as a grown adult I truly appreciated the amazing view and coffee shop at the top. I took many pictures and even took the backroads back to Whiteriver. Very very beautiful country up there. I even saw species of bees or wasps that I've never seen before. I look forward to returning soon. read more

This rating is in reference to the customer service upfront at the ticket booth. First.. the website does not clarify the day and times night snowboarding is offered which would have been nice if I knew instead of driving 40 minutes to and 40 minutes back to find them closed on Thursday. Additionally, I went to purchase ONE half day ticket and the lady charged me for two. When I went back to talk to them and ask for the manager.. they both laughed the entire time and were disrespectful. read more

Pros: - decent size mountain for AZ - trails are full of powdery/packed snow - offer 1/2 day tickets BIGGEST CON: We specifically went for my husband's birthday. They offer it as a promo on the website where you get a free ticket. We drove 3 hours and went once on Saturday and then back on Sunday, 1/6/17. My husband's birthday is on 1/7, we were hoping since this was our 2nd day back in a row they would be nice and give my husband the free 1/2 day lift ticket. They said no, we spoke to GM, he said no and brushed us off. He was condescending. We will never be back based on lack of customer service and will spread the word. I know rules are rules but it wasn't like we were going to come back the next day for his bday to get another free ticket. What a joke. read more

Ok folks here is how a ski resort earns a one star review. Got a notice that the best season pass deals of the season were ending in hours. In fact the sunrise website posted a clock counting down the days, minutes, and seconds until the "deal" was over. My 18 year old son has been a season pass holder for the past 10'years or so. I go online and get the best deal they had for his age which was $299. That deal took into account that he had been a seasons pass holder last year. Fast forward a week later (after the purchase) and I get another message that the best seasons pass deal of the year is now selling at half the price I paid a week before. Obviously I am a bit taken back by this, but remain calm and figure I can get this quickly resolved as we haven't even picked up the pass. I speak to the marketing department and the friendly voice on the line agrees with my displeasure but says she wasn't authorized to resolve the issue. I can understand and figure no problem. She tells me no one is in the office and that she will discuss the issue and call me back. Well I don't get the call back so I call the next day. I was basically told no refunds to get the discounted rate and buyer beware and too bad and so sad for me for believing their marketing. So now I'm out $150 on a student season pass based on slick marketing practices and poor customer service by sunrise. Heading down to the avalanche sale tonight for a few words at the sunrise booth this evening to see if someone has a clue about doing what should be considered right as well as good customer service practices. Frankly I'm very upset and looking down at the sunrise resort experience and marketing at the moment. I'll follow up with a review if things change Buyer beware! Well I met with the marketing director and things got resolved. One star rating to 4 stars for good customer service. Held off on giving a 5 star rating for the hassle of dealing with this issue. read more
I cannot say this is the best mountain in AZ, cause i have never been to the other two. this mountain has treated me well over the years though and have never seen a need to go to Snowbowl. The last few times I traveled up here I just did day trips. It can be done from the valley, you just have to start round 4ish/5ish and get back home by 9 to 10. Requirements for day trip is have one or two people to share the driving duties. Lift tickets are 51 bones but if you go on a Tuesday they do a deal, buy one lift ticket and get the second one half off. The tribe needs to invest some money into upgrading their chairlifts. The only half decent one is lift 1 which takes bout 7-10 minutes to go from base of mountain to top. Its a shame the best part of the mountain has the slowest lifts. If you do journey over to the other peak be warn that most of your time will be sitting on the chairlift. Lift 4 takes about 15 minutes and lift 6 is like 20-25 minutes. If the snow is plentiful the skiing is good. Some of the runs are a little narrow but most times you are the only one on them, so its not a huge problem. When I saw Hot Tub Time Machine, it fully reminded me of Sunrise. Cause the interior of the lodge is straight out of 80's. I suggest eating good before you get up there and bring a little snack for lunch and completely bypass stopping for lunch. And just get in enough skiing as you can get in. I use this mountain to just get a quick fix when I'm jonesing to ski. If I am going to spend a couple of days skiing, I recommend traveling to one of the resorts in the states north of us. Cause Sunrise is good for a day, but not for a vacation. read more
While I am a 'regular' visitor to Sunrise....even for day trips!! YES I will drive 8 hours to snowboard for 7 hours!!! =0) BUT on my last day trip over the weekend....my view of Sunrise dropped a couple of notches!! I paid CASH for our lift tickets for the day and without checking our tickets before sticking them on....I found out at mid-day when we were rejected at the lift...that we were issued HALFday lift tickets when we paid for FULL Day. Upon shuffling around for the receipt it turned out to be a blank piece of paper!!....Upon haggling at the ticket booth I soon discovered that there was a long line of disgruntled customers with similar ticket issues who had also paid cash... BEWARE!!! there is some fishy business going on at that ticket booth - do not pay CASH! (The GM ended up comping us all for half day....but I LOST AN HOUR ON THE MOUNTAIN that I will never get back!!) I was pissed! read more

We checked the website before we drove the 4 hours from Phoenix and it said 65 out of 65 runs open and that they had a 19" base. When we arrived only around 25 runs where open and you could see rocks and such coming through the snow. The runs that where open where sheets of ice and very dangerous, of course when you buy your lift ticket it says "No Refunds" and you can't see that stuff until you take the lift up. Another complaint was they charged Holiday Pricing $68 when it was February 20th, no holiday that I know of that day or weekend. With the conditions they should have only charged half of that. Save your money and do not go to Sunrise everything is run down and over priced. read more

Oh I so wish I could give Sunrise Park Resort a better review, but being honest here. With a cabin rental in Pinetop dependent on the resort in the winter and having come up to ski here for the past 30+ years I wish it could be better than a 3 star experience. The thing is, something is seemingly lost in the details at Sunrise Park. It seems the potential for being an amazing (for AZ) ski resort is there, but always details lacking that just makes it... well...average. The loose definition of the word "resort" can and should be questioned with this place. As for customer service, I've found it to be OK, but certainly not the friendliest staff year in and year out. The sunrise "vibe" is not a welcoming resort experience or place that workers seem proud of. It seems most workers are punching the clock doing their jobs and it seems low on their priority list to at least smile and or encourage and promote a good day for everyone (including themselves) on the mountain. I have never seen this at any other ski resort. We as guests know it is hard work, but this is a service industry and the employees and their attitudes towards guests are the face of the "Sunrise experience" on the mountain. Remember that this is considered a "resort". This isn't the first review questioning the attitudes of the employees so take note Sunrise and make changes, find incentives to promote better attitudes, or find people that want to make a positive difference when we pay our money. As for the overall look of the resort, I will say a good coat of paint, some soap and water, and touchup inside and outside of the buildings annually would go a long way. Reminds me of the resort in the movie hot tub time machine (when they went back to it 30 years after its prime). I can appreciate the cost and time to make it look nice, but attention to keeping things looking nice ad not worn out would certainly command a better feeling overall. At least start to take a few small steps forward to make the main lodge look up to date instead of having the overall look of just keeping it held together year after year. Food is at best like above average school lunch food. It'll get you by, but I would never eat here if there were other choices nearby. I typically bring a lunch so I don't have to wait in lines and pay for what I consider to be at best average. The two parking locations to the lifts are good but the parking lot is typically a muddy mess, or an ice skating rink. Invest in gravel or have it paved and the resort moves up a few notches. Another thing to consider is a form of a tractor based parking lot people mover system that circles the parking lot taking people to and from the resort to their cars in the parking lot (have designated pickup and drop off points on the far side of the lots) during busy days. Saving a long walk would be a upgraded perk after a long day on the mountain. As for the mountain, it is truly better than Snowbowl with wider runs and a variety of terrains, but at times the effort to get the runs open is not there or lacking for one reason or another. It seems at times the overall feeling I get is that the resort just doesn't care. The slogan "we try harder", certainly doesn't apply to Sunrise in this category and for that I see Snowbowl's annual effort to open runs and keep things open certainly more appealing and advanced. I know this review has focused mostly on the critical, but truly if you want guests spending $ here, these are the things that bug me every year and keep me away (and I'm sure others). I still go a few times a year, but I would certainly go way more if it had a better resort feeling or at least a better feeling of wanting my business. Right now the feeling is that the WMAT is allowing me to ski on their land... nothing more. read more

I learned to ski at Sunrise this January. The runs are beautiful and maybe shorter than the ones in Colorado (etc) but the lifts get you up there quick and so many people have told me they're WAY better and enjoyable than Snow Bowl. From what I have heard-- it's hands down the BEST place in AZ for skiing. The day lodge at the ski park is a bit dated and dark inside, but provides what you need with easy to access bathrooms and (of course) the bar! We always stay overnight in Greer village at Molly's instead of at Sunrise. It's historic but offers much nicer, updated rooms (and cabins) and the Prime rib is unbelievable. The drive is about 12-14 minutes. I'd say that's the best combination of everything for a great ski trip within scenic driving distance of PHX, Tucson, etc! read more

Really really really want to leave this hotel a good review but there seems to be issues. So I'll start off with the positives! It is SO CLOSE to the ski resort that that is good enough in itself! They do offer a shuttle to the park although I've never rode it. I've only ordered the pizza & fries at the restaurant and they were yummy! I LOVE the pool tables at the restaurant & Jacuzzi!!! We took full advantage, Can't beat it. So perfect place to bring some peeps!. Negatives- when first booking this hotel through booking.com my reservation was canceled the DAY before, even tho I booked a week early... due to broiler issues with the hotel. So a couple weeks later they were up & running so I was able to get a discounted room for last times inconvenience. And that's when I had an amazing stay! I called off work to stay for 2 nights! BUT the electricity did go out the second morning, I was about to go make coffee in the truck when it came back on! So fortunately it wasn't out too long, but it's understandable how this could happen in such a secluded spot during a blizzard. The part that disappointed me is the manager told me we could be locked in at that price as long as we come back (I have a season pass so sounded like an amazing deal!!) but when trying to book again 2 weeks later she told me she couldn't do that deal for me so we never went back. Sorry but $170 is a little too pricey for one bed one night. Sadly I won't be coming back at that price :( read more
they offer downhill mountain biking!!!!! you take the lift up and then bomb down the mountain on dedicated trails....NO, you cannot really just go down the mountain, that would be boring. although you can bomb the trail road all the way down, which is full of little whoopee jumps that, if unchecked, can get some pretty good air. the right side of the mountain is still closed for biking for archery, but the left side is open with 4-5 trails meandering through the tree line. they do rent full suspension bikes on a first come basis, but i brought my own up to avoid missing a rental. you can ride/rent full body armor, but i did just fine in my simple ol bike helmet and clipped in shoes. rentals run about 60-70 bucks for the day. 4 hours from phoenix. GREAT! read more

Season pass holder for four years. Missed the last 2 years due to work and travel. Boy have things changed! Apparently sunrise is under "new management". Why go to sunrise over snowbowl? At this point I am unsure. Everything that made sunrise, sunrise has disappeared and you can even see it in the employees' faces. That charm that they once had is no more. What made sunrise, sunrise? Atmosphere, family friendly, affordability, size, and night skiing. Sad to say all of those are now gone. Under new management a third of the mountain is closed and prices are sky high. You can't even access cyclone with a season pass?? Nope, that will be an extra $250 beyond the season pass costs. What has happened to this mountain? What do you get out of a season pass that snowbowl can't offer? Nothing anymore. Sunrise has all the tell tale signs of a cooperate resort buyout happening soon. I once loved sunrise but it is sad to say I will not be buying a season pass in the future. read more

This review is specific for the weekend of February 23 and 24. There was a food poisoning outbreak at the lodge. My two children, and many others were made ill after visiting the area. The Arizona Department of Health have opened an investigation after receiving so many calls. If you became ill, call Evan at the Health Department, 602-364-3671. The resort needs to take better care so that so many do not become sick. read more

I have been here over a dozen times and will remain a loyal customer. The slopes are awesome and the staff is great. Nothing like powder snow to snowboard on and a friendly bartender to serve you as you soak in the amazing views. When I think of my winter in Arizona, Sunrise comes to mind. read more

Cheap, good food at great prices, super friendly staff and convenient to the ski resort! Cheap: we paid $490 for three nights and two adult 3-day lift tickets. 3-day lift tickets at the gate are $176 per person, which puts the rooms at $46 per night. Looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80s but the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. Took off one star because the beds were uncomfortable and the toilet wasn't level. Food/price: ate breakfast and dinner there everyday. Good variety, tasty, and again, cheap. Breakfasts were close to Denny's prices. Staff: always gracious, friendly, and helpful. Convenience: 5 min from the mountain vice 45 if we stayed in Pinetop. We'll be back!!! read more

I took my 3 children (ages 2, 4, 6) to Sunrise for the first time this past weekend. I was really looking forward to our last ski trip of the year with great weather forecast and a big storm just passed. I was sorely disappointed. WARNING if you are bringing kids without gear, they have NO helmets there. Not for rent, not for purchase. The park is very disorganized and it took me just opening doors and asking random people where the daycare and ski schools were. I found "Funland" childcare first and dropped my 2 year-old off there. Then I went with my 4, 6 year old to sign up for school. After I got the passes for all of us I took the 4 year old back to Funland for her lesson. I was told they had all of the gear for the kids there and to just drop her off...OK. Then I took the 6 year old to get his gear and that place was a zoo. After we got his skis and boots I asked where the helmets were. I was told, as I stated above, that there were no helmets for rent or purchase. So I wondered, what is going on with my 4 year-old? I went to go find her and found that she was not only without a helmet and goggles she also had no gloves (they were still in her pocket). When I told her instructor that I was pulling her because of the no helmet issue the instructor tried to convince me that you didn't really need a helmet. Really? Ironically, as she was explaining to me the uselessness of helmets one kid careened into another kid who had already fallen down and whacked the fallen kid in the head with his snowboard. That's why you need a helmet. Even on the bunny hill. So I took her and my 6 year-old to get a refund for the day when 2 helmets magically appeared. I was told since my 6 year-old missed school he'd get a private lesson. It turns out that my son not only didn't get a private lesson he was paired with 2 first-timers. This is my 6 year-old who's been skiing for 3 years and skis moguls. He was paired with these kids because, per the instructor, there wasn't a more advanced group going out. I ended up pulling my 2 year-old out of the "funland" daycare because when I went back there to deal with my 4 year-old's helmet issue she was just wandering around by herself while being completely ignored by the staff who were in their office. She saw me and started crying and said she wanted to leave. She goes to preschool 3 days a week and has never done anything like this before. So I never even tightened my boots, much less got on my snowboard. I wasted money on my lift ticket (I was given a voucher for next year which I'll pass on to a friend), my son's lift ticket for going on the bunny hill when he should have been AT LEAST dark blues and my 2 year old for daycare we didn't use because I pulled her out after seeing her being ignored (which I've never done before with any of my 3 kids!). When I complained the manager (?) was like, uh, we don't give "refunds.' So I'm SOL and super pissed. read more

Crumbling brick, peeling paint, very tiny pool, hard matresses, way out dated rooms, had to have our room keys reprogrammed twice! The arcade is pathetic, a few games from the 80's and pool table was out of order. Paper thin towels. 4 cable channels. One microwave in the lobby that everyone has to share. The restaurant is awful. Food is over priced and service is pitiful. My meal didn't come out until the rest of my family was done eating! Save your money and stay some place nice in pinetop. It is worth the 20 minute drive to stay somewhere other than here. read more

Best kept secret in Arizona! The lift lines are quick. Snow & hill conditions are excellent! Love the lodge, and people who work there. It's a quick drive from our Cabin Rental located in Pinetop. We always recommend our rental guests take a summer or winter drive over to explore Sunrise! Amazing views from the top of the lift! LOVE IT! read more

Wow, Haven't been here in years, but they replaced the old double chair # 1 with a Dopplemeyr High speed Quad. This E-ticket ride takes you to the top in about 5-6 minutes. Tons faster than the 20 min the old one did, and lift lines on this three day weekend were no longer than a couple of minutes on sunday. Folks complain about the food, but hey, this is sunrise, and skiing isn't complete without an indian taco for lunch. Perfect protein and carb load for the afternoon. The decor is dated, but walking in the door at the day lodge brings back good memories of years past. I practically lived in this place on the weekends in the late '70's. Oh, the Snow and 50* weather was perfect. But credit for that goes to mother nature... read more

I've been skiing at sunrise since I was little because my family has a cabin in Greer. Every year it's the same old same old terrible service and ridiculous ticket prices. Also for some reason every time I try to call the resort and ask a couple questions about the season passes (used to be way cheaper last year for college students) took a huge spike!! Usually student season passes were around 100-200 every year but now it's $400, and that was if you bought it before the 22nd of November. I used to love how convenient it was to be able to have a free place to stay then go skiing on a half decent mountain and have some fun, but when I can now get a season pass for a little more to snowbowl and have many other resorts included is absolutely absurd. The management style is awful and growing up I remember visiting in the summer on many days that said "we are open" only to get there and, you guessed it, it's not open. The customer service for mostly anywhere on the mountain isn't up to what they're charging for!! My recommendation would be to find another mountain because this place feels like it's ok with being a one-star or two-star place. read more
I love this resort. It's bigger and less crowded than Snowbowl. The trails were packed with fresh powder and I loved it! It's a long drive from Phoenix, but I think it's worth it. They even offer a student discount, so bring your student ID! read more

I find this place kind of hit and miss. If the conditions are good, you can not get better skiing in good ol' AZ. However if the conditions are bad, they are REAL bad! The lifts are pretty slow, and the place needs some major renovations, but it's AZ, not Colorado so what are you going to do? read more

It was my first time snowboarding and I would like to go back. When I was surfing the internet looking for a place to go, this place was pretty average in terms of lift ticket and rental prices. The advantage is that there is typically fresh snow here as opposed to Snowbowl near Flagstaff. I paid for half-day lessons only because they were only $2 more than if I had just gotten a lift ticket and rentals alone. The lessons, however, were not worth it. They teach you some basic and extremely fundamental skills that kind of make it more difficult for you to learn than if you just strapped on the board and went for it off the bunny slopes. Overall, the snow was good in the morning when it was still cold; it became slushy in the afternoon, which is hell for beginners, but I still had fun. I think it ate it about 30 times, but who's counting? :D read more

Sunrise has better runs and is less crowded than Snowbowl. The hotel lodge is a little old but is charming and provides free shuttle to the ski resort. We enjoyed the mountain but had a really bad experience with the ski school. We signed up for private snowboard lessons because my son is not a confident child when it comes to sports and we thought a private lesson would be less pressure than trying to keep up with a group class. We thought we could receive specialized instruction and learn at our own pace. Our instructor Jacob became irritated with my son because he wasn't picking it up. I watched Jacob watch my son fall continuously and didn't step in to help him. He would give verbal instructions, but sometimes it's hard to turn words into actions when you're learning for the first time, and more so for a child. Not everyone learns at the same rate. As my son worked his way down on his own Jacob tells me my son is not listening to him and that he has the right to drop him from the lesson if he doesn't listen. My son was not talking back, not throwing a tantrum ... the worst he did was complain that he couldn't get it and he was hurting from falling so much. Not getting it is not the same as not listening. Jacob threatening to kick my son out was completely inappropriate. I watched another instructor with a group of about 15 people receive more personal attention than what we received from Jacob. My son became so discouraged and intimidated by Jacob, that he refused to finish the lesson and sat out the last hour. Next day I filed a complaint, describing everything in more detail than above, and stated that Jacob should be retrained as an instructor, because my child was traumatized by the experience. I have to give credit to the ski school director because he was sympathetic and helped smooth out the situation and redeem Sunrise by offering to refund both our lessons. I was impressed with the director but didn't want to take advantage of the situation so I accepted the refund for my son's lesson only and a free lesson for the next time we return. We will return and will try another lesson. I hope there will be difference for the better. read more

We are regulars of Sunrise, But we will not be coming back to stay at the hotel, due to your workers there.. They are so rude!! Especially the front desk lady, I think her name is Twilla. She is VERY rude and obnoxious! She's always walking g around and not doing nothing and when asked has an attitude. She also keeps flirting with guests husbands and coworkers. We won't be coming back and will let our friends know not to go until she is gone! Thank you! read more

Don't buy your lift passes online. Arrived late to the mountain with my kids. No refunds on the full day for half day arrival. The customer service messaging was horrible basically saying it's my fault for arriving late. Then they rubbed it in my face that everyone says they want come back but the mountain is still full by some miracle. I actually laughed out loud - and said thanks for pointing out your monopoly position requires no customer service. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. Few things me and my fiancée experienced. 1. Extreme noise at all hours of the night. Anytime your upstairs neighbor decides to take a shit you will hear it even if you are in a dead sleep. 2. Dirty towels and moldy floors 3. SHITY fucking disgusting food. DO NOT EAT AT RESTAURANT inside. I did get sick. 4. Unfriendly incompetent staff 5. Roaches everywhere 6. Overpriced. read more

This place is awful... we had to pay for an extra night because it was a holiday and it was not worth the money to stay there, unfortunately it was the closest hotel next to the ski lift is the only reason why they charge so much money but it was dirty the toilet was broken and not worth the money we paid to stay there, warning do not stay here read more
