Today one of the millionth SunRun guys came to my house in Atascadero (Hidalgo Ave) and knocked on the door. I told him I was in the middle of a meeting and dealing with a newborn, so just need to give me the pitch and move on as it's not a good time. This guy seemingly didn't care, spoke in the most inefficient way about some PGE collaboration program. I asked if it was income based to qualify, and he said "Trust me they wouldn't be paying me $23 an hour if it was income based"..... unprofessional to tell me your pay. As a customer, I don't care what you get paid and it's a waste of my time to even hear it. How you manage sales is how you likely manage customers..... SunRun is off the list for us. This isn't the first SunRun employee to be rude or disrespectful of our time. read more

A young man wearing a Sunrun polo rang our doorbell midday on Saturday July 18th and proceeded to tell me that he was there on behalf of PG&E. When I asked him what he wanted. I was told that PG&E sent out a notice that every household in Atascadero, CA would need to add battery backup to their home. I told him that I do not believe him and asked him to leave. He proceeded to tell me that if I make him leave without an agreement, our home would be 'disqualified' from the program. Not sure his employer would agree with his methods but if they do, Sunrun is not the type of company I want to do business with. Today has been my third phone call to Sunrun to address the same billing issue and each call was over an hour. I had Sunrun for close to 10 years through a lease. I sold my house in August and transferred the Sunrun solar system to the new owner at that time. I received a confirmation email from Sunrun stating the transfer to the new owner was complete. I received a final bill and paid it immediately. In September Sunrun drafted a payment from my bank account. I called and after over an hour I was supposed to get a refund to my bank account in 2-4 days (Sunrun sent an email stating I would be refunded in 2-4 days). The refund never occurred. I called my bank and disputed the charge. The bank refunded my money after 10 days. I also stopped all ACH payments from Sunrun at that time also. October 2025 Sunrun attempted to draft a monthly charge from my bank account again this month . This time it was declined by my bank. Sunrun sent me an email stating I owed them money and if I did not pay I would be sent to collections. Since August I no longer have a Sunrun system or account that has been confirmed more than once via email from Sunrun. I called the number on the email and even though the Sunrun employee acknowledged I should not have been charged as my account is closed and they owe me less than $3 back he could not help me. I asked for a supervisor and was told I could not speak to a supervisor as I was no longer a customer. I asked for clarification and confirmed with the employee I would not be able to speak with a supervisor since I was no longer a customer. After letting him know of my displeasure with the service I was receiving and the unwillingness of Sunrun to help I was able to finally get to a supervisor. We will see if the supervisor will follow through to fix the issue. The supervisor also confirmed this is a billing error and I do not owe any money. I do not recommend Sunrun to anyone which is unfortunate as the customer service was top notch for several years. I am not sure why the service is so poor now. read more

BEWARE WOMEN. I had a very traumatic experience as a women who was hired by this company. I worked for the San luis obispo office for a matter of weeks and was discriminated against based on my race and subjected to isolation and harassment with my manager at the time requiring me to spend hours with him alone in his home. What you're signing when you join keeps you from being able to ever fully speak up about abuse within the company. If there was a -Star they would get a minus rating. My dad has solar panels. They told him he would have to purchase more panels in order to have a battery back up. PG&E said he would not have to have more panels to have a battery backup. His Trueup bill is $2500. His system was non operational from March to Dec 2025. I am really glad I did not read these reviews before we signed up with SunRun, which as an avid Yelper, I should have. This will be a long but detailed review... We had two young men approach our house in early October soliciting for SunRun. We had a No Soliciting sign in our yard so that was annoying. We sent them on there way as they had no ID or any actual SunRun literature...very sketchy... Later that week we were in Costco and saw the SunRun booth. I went over to them and commented about the guys that came to our home. He looked us up on their system and said..."Oh I see they flagged your house"...I asked what that meant and he said it meant that those guys would get credit for any sales if we went with SunRun...I said "absolutely not." The young man was very apologetic and took the "hold" off our home. I asked to have a local rep call us since we actually had been considering getting solar panels. The above situation is why I took off one star...Sunrun needs to stop with this type of door to door "marketing"... it is annoying and off putting. Now for the good stuff...Our rep was Luke Caywood. He arrived at our house professionally dressed with all the information we could ask for...too much sometimes..there is a lot to learn. He was very polite, answered all our questions and was a straight talker. He was very careful in explaining why they need to see the electric use for the past year and asked about any future usage we may have...electric car, hot tubs. pools etc. He took all that into account when deciding on the size of our system so we would avoid any "true up" bills at the end of the year. This I have learned is the most important part. I called him yesterday and he was happy to answer a couple questions I had about the billing process and offered to go over it again when we actually get our first bill. We elected to purchase our system and got the Tesla Powerwall as well. Madeline was our contact through out the rest of the install process. She was always very responsive via text with all the scheduling information and followed up with a minor concern we had. She resolved it quickly and everything was good. Joe was our job foreman. My husband just retired from PG&E (Diablo Canyon) as an electrical and welding quality inspector so he is pretty picky about how things are done. He had nothing but great things to say about the crew who worked on our house. They were all professional, polite, they cleaned up and most important...they did a great job with the install..and my husband double checked :-) Thomas was the technician that came to set up the Tesla Powerwall and while there was an issue with a piece of equipment that would not connect to our router, Thomas came back the next day and had everything working before he left. The permit process was smooth sailing and we just got our official "go" from PG&E yesterday. So about about two months from start to finish...not bad. I am very impressed with the level of service that we have received so far and will defiantly be recommending SUNRUN through Costco to my friends...oh and the Costco Cash Card I will be getting is going to be really nice for my summer vacation this year :-) read more

We started talking to Sunrun in September 2021. We requested a consult and someone came out the very next day. It was a super informative meeting and we were able to get all of our questions answered. Being Costco members, we were able to lock in a super low interest rate that no other solar companies had been able to offer us. We signed the papers and agreed to move forward. Our existing roof was going to need to be replaced, too, and Sunrun offered that we finance the roof and solar through them, which was very appealing. Plus, we were given a $4k credit on the roof since we went with Sunrun for the work. Sunrun made it clear early on that we'd want the new roof and solar installed in the same year to maximize the tax credit. Since it was already September, we weren't sure everything would fall into place by the end of the year. Sunrun warned us that permits could be slow for our county too. The rep we were working with became harder and harder to reach once we were locked in. That was super frustrating. Months went by without many updates. One day a roofer contacted us to set up a date to begin the work, but Sunrun never confirmed that with us. It was a little confusing. We ended up letting our rep know the roof work was scheduled. However, once the roof install had a date, the solar work was scheduled the very next week. Everything was installed March 2022 (so basically 6 months from our original meeting with them). The install of the solar only took a day and it looks so good. We are very happy with all of the work and the outcome. It was frustrating to have to wait for the solar to actually get turned on, though, and it took us contacting Sunrun to find out what the hold up was. PG&E said they hadn't received any paperwork to activate the system, and then Sunrun said we needed to sign the docs. However, Sunrun realized they never sent us final paperwork to sign. So, make sure you are proactive and stay on Sunrun to get everything moving along. Our system was activated Friday, so about a month after the install. The app has been really exciting to use and track the energy being created. We are really happy with it. We have 17 months now to pay as much as we want towards the loan and be able to lower our monthly payment for the rest of the life of the loan. I like that flexibility. read more

Well it is now August 20th and our Sunrun Solar panels and Tesla Batteries have been installed on June 16th 2021, but for some reason Sunrun can't seemed to get the PG&E metering documents sent over to PG&E to finalize my application. So I can start seeing credit for any Solar Generation of Electricity. PG&E states twice that they have not received signed documents through Docusign through SUNRUN. But I have proof from Docusign that both times the documents were sent with my signature. Sunrun installed a system on my house seven years ago (Leased system) - during that time they have not maintained it or given me any info on how to go about maintaining it myself. Over two months ago the system stopped functioning and they continued taking payments from my checking account. They have told me that I don't owe any further money until it is functioning again, but they haven't showed up for scheduled repair appointments after they confirmed them several times. Clara Foley was our go-to person at Sunrun. She led us through the process, explained everything thoroughly and is always available and helpful. Our home is pretty large, and in 6 hours the job was completed,. The job was immaculate, most things hidden under eaves, etc. What is visible - new electric box, battery storage, etc, all were done very professionally, and they cleaned up the site nicely. Want to reflect on the great experience I recently had with the installation of a Sunrun Solar System for my home in Morro Bay. Both my Niece in Atascadero and my Cousin in Morro Bay are satisfied Sunrun customers. From the beginning thru the completion of the installation and final approval by PG&E to switch over to solar the Sunrun team was phenomenal. My Sales Executive was Eva Klentos, who meticulously explained our options of either a purchase or a lease for the system best designed to meet our needs. Additionally she provided a detailed comparison of our current PG&E rates v.s. solar rates as well as qualified rate projections for the next 25 years. This was certainly a no brainer...Once the paperwork was processed electronically (no contact per COVID concerns), Sunrun handled all the paperwork with the City for required permits and next up was scheduling the installation. The date & time were coordinated and the crew showed up right on time...4 hours later the system was installed...no fuss...no mess. Sunrun contacted PG&E for final approval to flip the switch to solar...from the date of the installation to flipping the solar switch took only 17 days. Seamless from start to finish. I cannot thank Eva Klentos enough for stepping up and making this a reality for us. Sun Run is a bunch of cheaters and liars. Two sales people came to my home . Chase Herman and Jason bowdie. They said they are working with San Diego gas and electric with pre existing solar owners to turn your home into an energy generator to take pressure off the grid . There will be. No loan no cost and no lien on your home I even had this in writing . Well it turned out to be the complete opposite of what they said . I brought it to the attention of their manager Brian Kennedy he told me they should have put me on a phone call with the terms but they never happened and he just blew me off anyway . Also by doing this I lost my nem two pricing and it went to nem three which means the power generated by my previous system would give me virtually no credit from the utility company . I got a lawyer involved Jessie Thaler but because we were selling our house I did not have enough time to dispute so basically they sold me a system that was previously quoted to me a year ago at 50k for 150k . This company is a bunch of crooks and I would not recommend doing business with them . One more point after I sold the house and paid them they tired to come back to get more money from me unbelievable . I wish I never bought em. To begin with the first year was pigeon hell. Had to pay sunrun another 1200 bucks for nets. The guys that did it made a huge mess causing my rain gutters to be clogged another 350. This June my panels went out. Got a Tru-up bill for $3600 dollars. I've only been with SunRun for a few months and our experience has been awful. After the panels were set up and we received our first couple of PGE bills, it was clear SunRun didn't set up our system properly as our PGE bills did not decrease and they actually increased. So now we are paying our $350 Sun Run bill and a climbing PGE bill, that was upwards of $500, which was what it was at before solar was even installed. We have emailed, called, set up a case number with Sun Run employee Thomas Newman who said he was going to credit our account $250 and then disappeared. We have had no response to our case, no one has checked to see if our system is up to par and it is brand new! Now we are paying nearly double we were before we had solar and no one will help us. Our calls and e-mails are ignored. See my previous post about the electrical death trap SunRun didn't fix until I posted a Yelp review. This company has awful customer service. However I am not surprised considering we have spoken with nearly 5 different reps regarding this issue. I assume the turn over rate for your employees is so high, customer issues falls through the cracks and nothing gets accomplished after the contract is signed. Sun Run does not follow through on their promises. My sales rep, DK Kellogg, explained the program clearly and during the explanation repeatedly promised, in writing, a $750 Visa gift card as a Thank You for going with Sun Run. While the May installation had issues and took almost two months to complete because of poor followup regarding a heat sensor for the Tesla battery installed in my garage (outside location unavailable) and failure to pass County inspection until solved, followup regarding the promised gift card is still unresolved. Now the corporate office is saying I didn't qualify for the gift card program! Seems like a bait and switch program to me. I am now being told "something" will be forthcoming. I wonder if that is because I said my attorney might need to handle this issue? read more

Sunrun is horrible at customer service. They will tell you that when you need to sell your house and transfer ownership of the solar to the new owner is very easy, let me tell you it's not. I have been in an escrow for over 2 months during which I have been trying to get the solar transferred to the new buyer and sunrun will not respond to me or the escrow officer. This is horrible and will hold up our ability to close escrow on time. I would not recommend this company. I never wanted solar and having very young men come to my door every other day pushing me to buy solar really put me off. However, a friend talked to me about her experience with a sales rep in San Luis Obispo who they were really impressed with - Bonnie Pommerville. I'd actually done a lot of research on solar and solar companies. It's just that I was not impressed with the young men that would come to the door so I decided to give Bonnie a call. Now I must say, Bonnie works in the San Luis Obispo office. I live in Riverside County I wasn't quite sure how things would work out due to the distance. However, I thought I'd give her a call, and I'm glad I did. Bonnie was extremely knowledgeable and professional. She answered all my questions with confidence and knowledge. She explained my choices and what I needed, and what would not benefit me. I found her to be honest and truly cared about her customers. She kept me informed of the process for installation. I truly hate contractors as they never do what they say they're gonna do. However, the Sunrun company truly amazed me. This process and installation was completed without a flaw. The workers were at my home when they said they would be there. When they completed one portion of the installation, I would get a call the same day To schedule the next part of my system. Bonnie was with me every step of the way. I had very few questions, but when I needed to call Bonnie, she always answered. For someone who never wanted solar. Because I did not want to deal with a contractors, I cannot tell you how amazed I was with this company and Bonnie. Just a side note, in dealing with Bonnie I found out that she is a disabled combat veteran who was one in one of the first units deployed to Iraq. This information further solidified my choice in dealing with Bonnie as my sales person. Even though the system was only a few years old, Sunrun told me it wasn't possible to upgrade by adding batteries or to disconnect from the grid during outages, so when PG&E went down, I lost power even on sunny days. When I sold the house, Sunrun forced me to sign a transfer agreement containing false statements. They insisted I say I was the original lessee of the system when I was not. This company is terrible. I wouldn't recommend it to a person I hate. They accosted me in Lowe's and pressured me into a consultation. Long story short, they have a very "creative" translation of the English language. For instance, "this price includes everything" doesn't include sales tax. That's a significant amount of money on a solar system. When I was emailed the plan design, I told the salesman (Auston Allen) I didn't like the panel location on my roof because the neighbors trees would shade the panels for an extra couple hours every morning. The trees were clearly visible from the satellite images they were using. I told Auston I wanted the panels on the other side of my house. I was told by Auston "no problem. It's an easy fix. We can deal with it after they are installed...." Well, it's been 12 weeks since installation and I've been referred to an "installation specialist" and it's looking pretty grim. Jimmy didn't bother to reach out to me and tell me "we didn't figure out we needed to change your plans for 2 weeks; looks like it will be another 4 weeks!" I did architectural drafting for over a decade. It takes 10 minutes to make these plan corrections. They have sent multiple people to my property to take pictures of my electrical panel. It's not rocket science. Get me my permit! I wish there were below zero rating points. I would give this company the lowest possible. read more

I am so disappointed in this company for their poor customer service, predatory business practices and lack of transparency. We asked for a bid to upgrade our old outdated leased solar system. They took months to get back to us with a way over priced bid compared to similar systems with other providers. We had made several attempts follow up to get a reasonable bid for purchase of new upgraded system with battery back up and to have the old leased system removed. They have done nothing but give us the run around and try to convince us to do another lease. We ended up accepting a bid with another more honest and transparent solar company. Now they refuse to remove old leased outdated system that we have paid in full. They want us to buy it from them. read more

This rating really should be negative. We were in Costco in San Luis Obispo and were approached by the SunRun representative. We decided to let him set up a consultation. He set up a time for the coming Saturday. We were asked to submit our electrical bills...we have 2 meters, one for the house and one for our well...which we complied with. On Friday we were contacted by the individual who was scheduled to come to our property. He indicated that his wife had contacted COVID and asked to do our consultation virtually. I declined because I have site specific issues I wanted to ensure was addressed in our proposal. I told him to just call when COVID was no longer an issue for him. Several weeks went by with no contact from him but I did receive an email from another person at SunRun which was basically trying to pressure me into a decision to ensure that we receive the tax breaks. I responded by saying that we had not received our consultation and were unable to move forward without it. The response was another request to allow a virtual consultation. I declined and explained that we had site specific issues. Again no additional response was received even though i had emailed asking for one. After about 3 weeks, I got a phone call from my original Costco contact. When I explained what had occurred he set up yet another consultation for the upcoming Saturday. This person did show up and we gave her the specifics of what we wanted and asked for her to email us a written proposal. She was visibility unhappy we didn't take her into our house and commit to buying a system. That was two weeks and two emails from us...which have gone unanswered....ago. All we have gotten is crickets. At this point, the only way I would deal with this company is if they were going to install our system free of charge. There are way too many solar companies in California to have to give them any business. It is unfortunate because the gentleman at Costco seemed genuinely interested in our business. She was able to get installers here quickly and Sun Run even helped out with our electric bill, which had escalated during the period we were without solar, waiting for the replacement inverter. We met with and added Solar through Sunrun in 2021. They came out and did an evaluation of our usage and recommended panels for our home. We moved ahead with adding and the very next year we got hit with a $850 true up from PG&E. We contacted Sunrun and they graciously covered the cost but offered no real explanation about how or why this happened. We did not change anything about our usage. This year we are headed toward a $1600 true up. Contacted Sunrun again, they suggested we purchase more panels and 2 tesla batteries for $50000!! Would have been cheaper to keep PG&E. Absolutely would NOT RECOMMEND!!! Have been giving us the run around for months meanwhile we have an expensive Solar panel system that does NOTHING for us. They came into my home with this pie in the sky quote that I would have little or very low payments back to PGE as of August 15th I have paid $475.00 in true up bill back to the power company not to mention the 20K that I paid to sun run for the initial installation. We had been skeptical about installing solar, until we had a chance to speak with Andy Crane. He reviewed in detail all the benefits going solar offered us (lower average monthly bill than currently paying, zero out of pocket cost to install, minimal annual increase, etc.), and explained the whole process to install. Andy was so knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions. We have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly the solar panel installation, inspection by the city, and final approval from PG & E to activate the system has been (about 6 weeks).
