I came here for a haircut today and Juno did an amazing job, I showed him a photo of a butterfly cut with curtain bangs, and he executed it perfectly. The haircut here also came included with a shampoo wash, (which is great, since other places usually charge extra). I was very happy with the end result, how healthy and light my hair felt, and how beautifully he styled my new layers! It was my first time trying this salon, and trying a new style since I see Butterfly Cut popular lately online, and I'm happy I took a chance and went to Sun's Hair Design. I was scared to cut my hair during a pandemic, but passed by this beautiful salon last weekend when I went to get boba iced tea. I saw that they had hand sanitizer, and both customers and staff were wearing face masks. I felt at ease, and I made an appointment today! My hair stylist was Juno. I told him what I wanted, and was left speechless at the end. I'm in love with hair, and haven't had such a beautiful cut in a long time. Worst haircut ever! Took my daughter to get her hair layered and long bangs trimmed. It turned out uneven and choppy. Maybe unlucky and ended up with the least experience stylist. I should have know when the stylist kept shaking her head in confusion like something wasn't right. This is time and money you cannot get back. Not to mention the hurt and sadness my daughter feels. I'm not picky at all and loved my hair after the cut. They do speak mainly Korean, but my hairstylist was able to understand and ask what I wanted during the whole process like, what do you want to cut your hair to, length, shampoo before or after, and how I'd like to have it styled. The cost was $40 for cut, shampoo, and style. You should also tip as you would like. The area is simple and nice. Theres a coat rack to hang up your belongings and my stylist Becky took my bag for me. I asked for layers and she clarified if I just wanted layers or long layers, and I said long layers, and also asked for bangs, and she asked if I wanted straight or side, and I said straight. Asked: long layers with straight bangs Before I had just straight long hair and the results are attached, again my stylist name was Becky. The process was: Clarification of what I wanted, cut, shampoo, blow-dry, cut again, and style. As for appointments/walk-ins I had a mini issue at scheduling, maybe because of the language barrier but they still accepted me. I've been to Sun's a handful of times, most recently earlier this week and will probably be back again. PROS: * Salon's pretty clean. * Wash (shampoo + conditioner) are included with the cut. * They're good with color. This time around, I got rid of my highlights and they did a good job getting me back to my natural hair color. I've also gotten highlights before and touching up highlights and both times, they did a good job with color. CONS: * Expect to use a lot of simple language if you don't know Korean. Usually at least one person there knows more English and can help interpret, but your hair dresser probably won't know too much English. I was OK with that, but some people aren't. * Don't expect to be unloading to your hairdresser as she styles your hair b/c, as mentioned, she usually doesn't know that much English. I'm content with reading a magazine as she works, so it was fine with me. * The wait. I've gone on weekends before and have waited up 30-60 min after my scheduled appt time before they finally got to me. Not great, esp if you don't have a whole lot of time. For this, I recommend going at an off-peak hour like on a weekday. I got my hair done on a weekday and actually had my hair appt start on time. read more

The only place I'll go, and I live in MD!! Yes, I drive all the way to Annandale, VA for my hair session with Juno. I've always had bad luck when it comes to my hair and I'm also very specific as to what I want. I hate it when I ask for a trim of 2inches and get a 5inch hair cut! Juno cuts my hair as to exactly what I want. I'm also very picky about my hair color but he understands my hair and always gets it right! I love that shampoo & conditioning are included with pretty much anything you do. The place is clean and we'll maintained. I found this place because a girlfriend refuges to go to anyone else but Juno as well and referred me. Okay, now that I've been to this place a few times, I had to lower it one star to three. This place is very hit and miss. The first time was decent, the second time not bad, but this third time....yikes...my gawd...what did they do to my hair?!?! And I'm really not that picky. I started going to Sun's Hair when I moved down here. I am Korean and wanted to try a Korean hair salon, they after all, do have the same type of hair as me. It's a small salon, I really like it there, I have been wanting to try different hair styles so I find a picture and bring it in. I went to this one lady first Young Kim, she did a really good job on my hair and I looked like the girl in the picture. I went back again to do something different but Young Kim wasn't in that week, so I went to Maria, she is very sweet, she doesn't speak much English, and I don't speak Korean so there was a language barrier, but we both got our point across and my hair turned out very nice, again I brought in a picture :D I went to her again and got something a little crazy done, I bleached one side of my head and a small section of my bangs on the other side of my hair, it was cool looking, I was a bit nervous, but she did a great job, I did bring in a picture though, hehe. So far, I only go to Maria because she has done really nice work on my hair :) I like to keep one person :D Overall, the ladies are so cute I really like it there, they are definitely reasonably priced,which is great! Cut, color, wash, blow dry is only $80! I didn't know how much that usually costs because I hadn't dyed my hair before, I called my mom and told her and she was like wow, because she pays $170 every time she gets her hair colored, cut, etc. I have been there many times and I have not had a complaint yet, except when I have an 11am appointment, and I wake up at 10am go straight there, and smell delicious Korean food as they are eating for lunch! I want to say, Can I have a bite? They take care of you there, meaning the offer to store your bag/purse in a cabinet while your hair is done, give you magazines to read, it's so nice. I highly recommend this salon! Ask for Mindy. I have a special texture to my hair that is the Korean frizzy/wavy/curly hair known as "Ban Kkob Seul" and it is really hard to find stylists, even Asian stylists, that can cut my hair properly. Mindy was nice and attentive. She actually listened to what I wanted and gave me advice about styling. It was an awesome cut. The other times I've gotten cuts were by other stylists that was just average. Walk-ins are welcome. It's better to have an appointment. Even though it's a korean salon, they have a diverse clientele. It's very nice to see that they cater to people of other nationalities. I brought my non-korean friend to the salon and she liked her cut as well. Parking is free because the salon in a mini-shopping center. ----- I knocked off a star in my ratings because their prices vary. I've been charged $35 once and $40 another time. I'm sure it depends on how loyal of a customer is or which stylist cuts your hair. I've tried to avoid this by asking the rate up front, but they avoided the question. I should have known better! - I'm into the really trendy styles and cuts and let's just say that none of the stylists here are younger than 30. I just got my hair cut and full highlights and I'm pretty darned satisfied! Especially at the price I paid...100.00 total! That is a crazy bargain for a haircut, full highlights, and style. Now on to details: 1. Salon decor & cleanliness - when I walked in I was very happy with the cleanliness and the over all look of the salon. Too many times I have walked into a "high end salon" to see hair everywhere (yes I know it's a salon) and a general level of uncleanness that disappoints. 2. My stylist - young kim and I really liked her! I think she will become my go to hair stylist. She was friendly, professional, and just overall pleasant. She had other stylists helping her and they all were great to interact with and treated me well. 3. My haircut - I wanted to go from long hair (to my back) to a wavey MOB (medium bob). I showed Young Kim a pic and she said okay. At the end of it all she did a great job. She didn't style it wavy like I wanted it (iw have naturally wavy hair) and I got nervous when she pulled out the flat iron but it looked good in the end. I can easily style it myself at hone after washing it. 4. The color - This was my only 'not so happy' moment. I wanted blonde highlights to lighten my hair. After the first round she had to go back after washing my hair to get the highlights lighter. Overall, the highlights are chunkier than I would want but it's not something I couldn't live with. I think I might try somewhere else next time if I want more subtle highlights. Overall - I'm glad I tried this place out and will be making this my go to hair salon. I've had friends who come here religiously to get their hair cut, so I decided to check it out. For women's shampoo, cut, dry, style, it's $40 (and you should definitely tip!). For men's & kid's haircut, it's cheaper. I did a walk-in on a weekday afternoon and had to wait a while. Everyone was super friendly. I don't have a particular preference, but Sua cut my hair and did a fantastic job. They definitely take your time making sure you get a great haircut. Pretty good place. I used to get my hair cut here all the time and they did a decent enough job, though I'm not too picky. Men's cuts cost about $20. One problem I had with them is that they weren't that great about keeping scheduled appointments. - sometimes I would schedule an appt for ten, but they wouldn't see me for a half hour to an hour (sometimes, not often). I went to this place, at first, because a close friend had told me about it and, location-wise, was very convenient for me then. Now, I go out of my way to see Young Kim. She's awesome. Whatever she does to my hair, she always does it well. I never walk away feeling as if I should've told her to do this or that. It's always spot-on. I do suggest bringing pictures of what you'd like. Appointments aren't necessary, but Young Kim does book fast, so if you were looking to let her have a whack at your hair, I would call first. The other hairstylists are wonderful as well. I went here once after this salon was recommended to me by someone after I complimented her on her hair color. I had a Saturday late morning appointment. I was there for about five hours for a highlight on medium length hair! My fiance was worried that I had been gone so long! I almost fell asleep in the chair and I didn't see any magazines in English--all Korean magazines. I felt very out of place, even though I am Korean! The service was horrible. The staff kept walking off to attend to other clients but would wander off for an hour, start drying my hair, then leave for 15 minutes, then come back, then go answer the phone, then dry my hair for 5 minutes, then wander off for 10 minutes. I have been cutting my hair here for 6 years and the quality has steadily been declining, especially after Young Kim, my go-to stylist, left. Today was the last time I cut my hair there. I wanted the same thing I always get, 2 inches trimmed with layers in the front. Sua "cut" my hair, but only used a razor and a men's hair trimmer...never used scissors. I left with more split ends than I came in with. The hair cut was not clean at all, but looked like the bristles on a broom. She did not ask me how I normally part my hair, which is to the side, but rather took it upon herself to style it with a middle part. Then, she curled my hair at the ends, again, I did not ask her to do this. It was especially frustrating because with the hair curled I could not assess the hair cut, since I always wear my hair straight. My experience here was the best! My hair was lightened, colored, and cut and it turned out better than I ever expected. Sua was my stylist and she was very very nice and patient the whole time, i felt so bad that my hair took so long(about 6 hours!) but I'm really thankful for the great job that she did. After searching for a couple of years, I finally found my perfect salon! The staff there are all amazing! They are all very nice, friendly, and know how to listen to their clients. After every shampoo, they give me a quick, warm towel massage on my neck which is super relaxing. They listen to what you want for your hair and also give you expert advice depending on the damage on your hair. They care about what you want, but they also care about the health of your hair. I got my hair done with Tracey (or Soojung) and I'm really glad I went to her! I was recommended to go to Tracey from a family friend and I plan on getting my hair done from her from now on! I first went to Tracey for a perm, and loved the results. I went back to her today for color, and I love it! From my experience, I don't think this is a place for a walk-in because everyone takes down appointments and seemed pretty busy. read more

The hair stylist- she put my hair up then she disappeared, come back 10mins later to talk about my hair, start doing, then disappeared again. She let someone else wash my hair and I had to wait like that 4-5 times. It's just really annoying. I did coloring which turn out ok and i also ask for a trim which she made me wait another 15mins. Like if you already have customer booked, dont take another one and then run back and forth like that. One of my favorite haircut spots. I visit my folks in Virginia about once a year and whenever I come through, I always like to get a haircut here. It's always a great vibe there and making an appointment is a breeze. My go-to stylist here is Juno. He's super good and really good at getting you the haircut you want and making it as dope as possible. I usually just give him a general idea of what haircut I'd like and he takes it from there. I would highly recommend him as a stylist if you're planning on scheduling an appointment. If you choose to do a walk-in though, all the other stylists are really great as well. I have been coming to this place on and off for over 6 years. It costs $35 for haircut, which is pretty standard for an Asian salon. The $35 includes a free wash. Even though it's a Korean hair salon, they do speak basic English, and don't worry if you don't speak Korean. I don't speak Korean, and I have no problem communicating with my stylist. I usually go to Juno, and he's the only guy in the salon, and he seems to be popular with men and children. He's been there forever, and hence quite experienced and reliable. read more
