Selling my home and the buyer wanted the heater serviced, typical and completely acceptable. Sunset sent a tech out to do the inspection and found that the heat exchangers were cracked. I got a repair appointment scheduled for the following week. I was quoted $1500, $800 of it being for 4 hours of labor. The repair took 2 hour and I was still charged the full labor amount. I understand blocking 4 hours in the tech's schedule so you don't overbook, I don't understand overcharging the customer when the job takes half the time. $200/hr in labor is already insane. When I called to talk to someone in the service office, I was told they needed to talk to billing and they would call me back in a few minutes. So I waited for 3 hours yesterday evening (amount of time from when I called until they were closed) and then called them at 9 this morning (they opened at 7). After I was transferred to billing and then the service manager, I was told that travel time is included in labor charges (not explained at time of quote) and that according to GPS he was at my house for 2 hours and 45 minutes. He showed between 12:15 and 12:30 and left just after 2:30. They said they would refund me $135 for an hour of labor, $800/4 hrs is $200. They say that they will shred the check they were given for payment when they call me to take payment over the phone. They said they couldn't just cut me a check for the difference. I already stopped payment of the check to ensure they can't cash it too. I waited for 2 hours for them to call me back. When they did, they seemed like they didn't want to talk to me at all. They got my card info and email address so they could send me a receipt and got right off the phone. Ridiculous! I will be sharing this bs with everyone I know as well as filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. My realtor will also be passing all of this along to the 350 other agents in his office and all the agents they interact with. read more

Jim Westall was our salesman for two big projects with Sunset and he was awesome t work with! They replaced our old oil furnace with a gas model. The techs worked with us to set things up in a way that gave us way more space in our utility room. We also replaced our windows with them. Both teams were fast, clean and fun to have around. The windows were installed in mid-March, just as Covid was starting to get real. I was working from home while the crew did installation. I had important online meetings on two of those days and the crew planned their work around that for me. read more

This heating system broke down every time it froze for years. We were told it was normal to have to buy a heat gun and defrost the frozen pipe attached to the unit and had to have them come back year after year to "fix" it. Eventually we gave up on Sunset Air and hired a different company and haven't had a problem since. Do not recommend. read more

we contacted Sunset to install ducts to the mother in law suite above our shop which is run with a Dunset system, was told the current system COULD handle the extra 800 sq ft, so we scheduled with price quote, workers showed up, installed 3 ducts instead of quoted 5, and reused previous thermostat instead of installing quoted new one. great! money savings right! NOPE! we got the final bill and it was more than contracted/quoted price, it was itemized either! Husband talked to someone, they said that because bigger ducts were used the labor price increased. as this wasn't a T&M job, what you pay your labor isn't our concern, plus it is common sense that less ducts equals less labor so less final payment. well here we are waiting AGAIN for someone to show up to make the AC work. last time he was here the man splaining commenced and even said, 'well when it gets hot up here it can't catch up!' that's the point of AC, so it DOESN'T get hot up there! not looking forward to Winter because I'm sure that it it gets cold up there the heater can't at h up either! we are still waiting for our itemized bill that was requested, they did revise our bill to what was originally quoted, except didn't do the quoted work! changes were made without discussion and they seem to not really care! Sunset Air Inc. (SAI) was hired to install a domestic hot water system and a geothermal radiant floor heating system in our new home. SAI changed to a gas boiler system after their failed attempt to drill geothermal vertical wells. Sunset Air Inc. (SAI) contracted with a drilling company to drill three 200' vertical holes in our back yard for a geothermal heating system. Even though SAI claimed they had experience with geothermal heating systems and would oversee the project, it became apparent that they had no experience with "vertical" geothermal heating systems and would not be overseeing the project. When drilling the first 200' well, the drilling company struck an artesian. SAI's project supervisor was not on site to oversee the well drilling. He was on vacation. The gushing artesian water spewed for almost 3 days against our 7' high cement retaining wall and cement stairs that lead to Gig Harbor Bay. Due to SAI's failure to request that the drilling company immediately divert the artesian water away from our retaining walls and cement stairs, we encountered erosion damage. The top and middle sections of the cement stairs settled downward into a "bow" shape making the steps irregular and unsafe. Sunset Air never followed up or took responsibility to have the cement stairs repaired. Estimated damage is $25K. During the installation of the radiant heating system, SAI failed to install the pex tubing according to the manufacturer's specifications, therefore, voiding the 25-year manufacturer's warranty. SAI used Mr. Pex for the pex tubing and used Uponor Company for the fittings and manifolds, therefore, voiding both companies' warranties for using different manufacturers' products together. Uponor Company suggests that we inspect the pex tubing heating system annually to make sure there is no electrolysis or corrosion. Estimated annual cost for an inspection is $350. Any maintenance or repairs would be an additional expense since there are no warranties. In a similar situation, SAI chose to repair rather than replace an accidentally cut section of the pex tubing in the shower floor without first requesting written permission from the manufacturing company of the pex tubing. The manufacturing company requires "prior" notification and approval before any repairs are made to make sure the correct materials are used and the repair company is certified to do the repair. Not only did we lose the manufacturer's warranty for the entire radiant heating system, SAI refused to warranty their own repair work. Our homeowner's insurance policy does not cover any damage caused by "construction defects." read more

They showed up on time every day, cleaned up their worksites as they moved through the process and were very friendly. Bought the house new in 2014. Had a note in the folder handed to us by the seller to contact Sunset Air to schedule a demo/walkthrough of the heat pump Sunset Air installed. We scheduled and a tech from Sunset Air showed up to give the demo. In June 2021, we noticed that our AC was not working. Called Sunset Air and was initially told that they'd upgraded their computer system and that my info did not transfer from the old system. They sent a tech to diagnose and was told it needed a new capacitor. Capacitor replaced, still did not work, then was told the compressor went out, and was asked to contact Sunset Air. Contacted Sunset Air and that's when I found out that there was no warranty because the heat pump was never registered and that I would need to pay for a new unit. It was in July that Sunset Air placed the order for a new unit. Soon after, Sunset Air scheduled the installation for August 23. On August 20, Sunset Air called to let me know that new unit did not arrive. I couldn't believe that Sunset Air was just informing me of the status. In September, Sunset Air rescheduled the installation of the new unit for October 4. Two techs showed up and installed the new unit fairly quick but then I was told of another problem - the condenser was leaking and that it needed to be replaced. That's when I about lost it. I paid for it to be diagnosed, paid for a new capacitor and installation, and now being told the condenser was leaking. Within a day Sunset Air called to let me know that the manufacturer had it in stock that it should take about a week to get it in. That was the week of October 4 and it's now November 11 and have not heard from Sunset Air. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

Poor follow through. I thought they were good, helping me find interest free financing for a new furnace. But follow through is terrible. The furnace is in the crawl space. They claimed they couldn't finish insulating the ducts because their adhesive wouldn't stick, too damp. Took six weeks for them to come back. They did a one year inspection and the guy found two major things that should have been done on install. It's been over a year since the inspection and they still haven't done it. They refuse to send me a copy of the inspection report and claim only one thing needed fixing. They claim they called, but no message, nothing on caller ID. I even gave then my work phone. When I call, they are never available at the appointment desk and don't call back. I don't recommend them. read more

I'll admit that Sunset was not the least expensive bid we got to replace our Furnace, AC, Water heater and install a gas Garage heater but sometimes you get what you pay for! Jessy was upfront with all the costs, no surprises or additional items required. His crew was outstanding arriving on time three days running. These guys don't even stop for lunch Professional, knowledgeable, courteous, engaging and very friendly. We especially wish to call out Corey, Kyle,Jared, and Lucas. I will never, ever, ever use Sunset Air and heating again! I began this journey with them this past September when I called them to come to my home and repair an issue that was causing the furnace to shut down. A guy came out, tore the furnace apart and swore that all was well with my furnace. One week later, not only did the same problem occur, but now the furnace sounded like a Fort Model T. Three guys and 4 months later and well over $300 bucks the initial problem is still there. I'm sure that these folks can do a fantastic job of replacing your furnace filters, but if a repair is needed, and you don't have a fireplace or woodstove, DON'T CALL SUNSET HEATING AND AIR! Don B. UPDATE: We did receive a partial refund. However, with that being said, please research your options carefully when selecting a business to install new windows for your home. In the market for windows; GO ELSEWHERE! I only gave Sunset Air 'one star' because I HAD to in order to leave a review. From the very first time we reached out to them to get an estimate for windows until the end of the process (6 months!!!!) was the WORST customer service experience of our lives. The first guy we contacted blew us off. The second guy, who actually came out and did the initial measuring, missed a window in his quote; the biggest window in the house! The crew was nice, but put windows in that were cracked and the wrong glass. By the time the first round of installation was 'done' only 2 of the 12 windows were correct. They ordered the wrong glass for two windows, two windows had cracks in them, the frame was cracked on one, two windows were scratched, missing and damaged screens on multiple windows, lock not set-up properly on sliding glass door and one window coming apart inbetween the two panes of glass. They never answered the phone when we called; it went to voicemail. They would call back during the times I said we would be unavailable. We heard "we'll make it right" countless times and yet, nothing. We were also invoiced before the job was complete. Don't waste your time or money on this establishment for windows. read more

What an outstanding experience we just had with Sunset Air. Jason, our service provider, arrived a few minutes before his office said he would (already impressed with that!). He got to work straight away ensuring our home's climate control system is in top working condition. We are new to the PNW and would prefer to spend our first summer here enjoying the weather and our home rather than worrying about mechanical system problems. Jason was excellent at explaining the most important elements of his maintenance service and what to watch out for over the coming months. We were very impressed with how personable Jason is and how conscientious he is too. The icing on the cake was learning about Sunset Air's Preferred Customer Program. I'm a firm believer in letting the experts do what they do best, so we won't have to worry when the seasons change again next winter and spring. Sunset Air will take care of our heating and cooling system so we don't have to worry. Short version: Worst service every by any company. I'd give it a zero rating if possible. Longer version: The tankless water heater quit producing hot water. After waiting several days for the original installer to arrive (since it was under warranty) they diagnosed a failed pump but then fired their only installer. However they did order the part. I called Sunset to see if they would do just an install. After at first saying no but then said OK, given the circumstances. But it would be the following week before someone was available. When he arrived he said he could only do a diagnosis, not a part installation since that is company policy. Since I was more than 2 weeks without hot water and we already had an 'agreement' I was pretty frustrated and called his manager to express this. I left the manager a blunt message about the prior agreement then immediately called again, asking to speak directly to the manager. Hearing the situation, agreed to do the installation. When I returned home later I found that we still had no hot water I called the same manager. He said the heater produced hot water when the installer left and since he did not like the message I had left on his phone previously, Sunset would not do any further business for me, then hung up. Bad service and bad attitude. Must be a pretty successful business if you can afford to turn down business because you don't like messages from frustrated (former) customers. read more

They resolved the issue I was having with a furnace they installed 3 years ago for the previous owners. I went into Sunset expecting reluctance on their part to address installation issues that might be causing the problem but I have to say, Larry (service manager) was quick to provide me a free service call to inspect my system. From there it took two more visits to correct the issue and that included replacing the pressure switch and re-plumbing the vent at no cost. Overall I couldn't be more impressed with the service and consideration they showed me to get my furnace fixed around my schedule and as quickly as possible. I really love getting the service I hope for but it's rare. In my case, they went above what was asked and did it in an efficient manner. read more

this company is unreliable, never shows up when they say they will. tech has been out 4 times and has never resolved the a/c problem. was told we needed a new motor and figured they knew what they were doing. after $400 later for the part the problem is not fixed. was going to send out another tech but he had not shownup. very dissapointing experience . read more

So these guys did a great job on putting in new windows in our house so I thought they could also put in a heater on our outside backyard porch. Got a bid for a gas heater and when the estimator came out to finalize, Sunset decided it wouldn't work. Estimator said he wasn't sure how the system he was bidding would work. Not a confidence builder. Switched to an electric unit and we signed the bid and gave them 50% down. Then they called a week later and said they forgot some stuff and would have to increase the quote by another 50% after we signed the contract. I told Sunset we weren't confident they knew what they were doing and to tear up the check and we'd look for another contractor. 2 weeks later I find out they cashed my check! I called and again they said they messed up and would send a refund. I am so disappointed. If you don't know what you're doing, don't bid a job. And certainly don't take the customers money.
