My heater stopped working and after searching YouTube and phoning a friend I isolated the problem with my furnace. I needed a new igniter which was unavailable at most hardware stores I searched and the needed part wouldn't be available for delivery for 7-10 days. Capitol did not have the part on hand nor were they a vendor, but their customer service relayed me to a local supplier, Ferguson that might have my replacement parts. I was fortunate that my house was only 60F inside but my pets were cold, and they couldn't just put on a sweater all day. After finding a incomplete and dangerous installation done by a competitor, Capital came to our rescue and we have been using them for years now. They installed and take care of our duel zone heat pump system, recently replaced our old hot water heater, service our fireplace, and have done some electrical work. Although we have come to expect the service team members to be highly professional and personable, Last year's annual service tech Gabe and more recently this year's tech Christian, both exceeded our expectations. It seems so rare to find individuals who really love what they, bring gentle humor, can involve you in the process without talking over your head or down to you, and investigate further when something catches their eye, even in a 120 degree attic. Your company recently inspected the HVAC system in my rental. These are photos from before and after their visit. Their technicians (Dale and apprentice) colluded with the landlord of the home to provide a report saying that there was no HVAC cleaning necessary, and no safety hazards in the home. I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and have been very ill in this home. I provided the company with my doctor's accommodation letters that I also provided my landlords, stating that I must have the dust removed from the home in order to reside in the home safely. And because the homeowner is their client, this company created a false report and refused to hear pr address legitimate safety concerns. Highly unethical company. Clearly just in it for the money. Basically price I had them come out to check a slow drainage in my sink and basically to add a kitchen faucet which I already had all they had to do is install it apply arrival. They basically didn't do anything except to look at the situation and basically what they ended up being is they gonna charge me $800 just to install a faucet she I'm not going to pay $800 have somebody put in a $50 faucet so I ended up hiring a handyman who put the faucet in for $100 and I cleared the sink myself with a plunger. I've been a customer for 25 years and I never heard a word from anybody. I'm not happy with Capital Heating and I probably won't use them again. read more

Guy B. even cleaned the glass and added in some filler that was missing after replacing the pilot mechanism. As it is our first time with a gas fireplace it was reassuring to have someone knowledgeable that was willing to explain the possible issues, their fixes, and prices. Ultimately it was an easy fix. Replaced one main part and it was working again. Year later and it is still working solid. No issues restarting the system next season. 10/10. It's been a few months now since Capital installed my HVAC system, overall I had a good experience. I was entertaining quotes from a few providers in the area, and Capital seemed the most professional by far. I never once got the sense that someone was upselling me or bending the truth of what could be achieved through the process. Everything in my experience was honest and transparent. There was some friction to begin with. I was given multiple quotes in writing which I always appreciate. While reviewing them and the product specifications I noticed that the dimensions of the concealed unit recommended for my attic space meant it would be difficult to get into my attic. I felt like this should have come up earlier in the process, it wasn't until I brought up the dimensions that it got noticed. Additionally, Capital missed an appointment with me due to scheduling confusion. They did prioritize a new appointment as soon as I let them know. After this everything was smooth, they sent their crews out in advance to verify the installation could be done despite the dimensions. Everyone was both professional and friendly. Capital works quickly, once I was sure I was going to go with them it didn't take long at all before I had a working HVAC system. A few weeks from beginning the process to the install being complete. I didn't even notice the electrical work being done and I was home the whole time! Also appreciating the recommendations they gave, our heat pumps work great. We were cool through the hottest months of the summer, and now we're warm in the winter. It's an immense upgrade from our previous baseboard heaters and the energy consumption is lower. We have been using Capital since we bought our home 6 years ago & they have done some good work for us, including replacing one of our two heat pump/propane furnace systems. They promptly came out and replaced the electronic thermostat at no charge after it completely failed after about a year. More recently, we've had problems with both systems which could require repair OR replacement of equipment. It's been very difficult to arrange appointments although we've been flexible with our time, and we've found that no single technician can give us a comprehensive overview of our options, both for the technical aspects of the work, and the financing of same including the pros and cons of purchasing one of their enhanced service plans. For example, we spent a few thousand dollars to replace electrical wiring on a heat pump that had been chewed up and destroyed by mice. The technician said it was too bad we hadn't purchased Comfort Care, then later admitted he was not really sure whether rodent damage would have been covered. I get the impression this company is having growing pains during a period of rapid expansion. Upper management could help by paying more attention to the customer experience. I should not need to understand the inner workings of your company in order to get the information I need to make well informed and cost effective decisions for one of the most important systems in my home. read more

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE We recently paid $13,000 for a new heat pump system. After a few months it began to give off a strong chemical odor. As a caretaker for my elderly mother, I was concerned for her health. Capital sent out two sets of techs who couldn't find anything wrong. The 2nd tech was also very rude and disrespectful and didn't want to hear anything we had to say. I contacted the owner (Chuck) who promised that he would send out the vendor to get to the bottom of it. After a few days I called for an update and received a long voicemail stating that he wasn't going to "waste any more money on us" when the issue was "clearly on our end". He even blamed the smells on smells from outside like drying paint or a nearby Bar-B-Q! He refused to send anyone else over and also refused to contact the vendor even though he previously made that promise to me. He even bragged that in his 26 years of experience he had never seen this issue ... so therefore it was not possible. I can't really convey how stressful the whole experience was for us. We were genuinely concerned for our health. They unit was not even a year old and ... we had an extended warranty. And now we were being denied service by the manager himself? They left me choice but to contact another local company ... at my own cost. That company quickly diagnosed the issue in less than 5 minutes and couldn't have been nicer or more professional. The point of all this is that the service that we received from Capital was just pathetic. There's no other word for it. We chose Capital based on previous user ratings and based on the claims on their website of great customer service and experience. But when they came onsite... they only did the bare minimum cookie cutter tests and then quickly blamed us for the problem. No one there seemed to have the will, or experience, or desire to troubleshoot beyond the very basic routine steps or to think outside the box. I've never written a long online review like this before, but I feel like I had no choice and that I have a responsibility to share my experience with others. I can't speak for other people's experiences, only my own. The entire experience with just a failure on every level form the very top on down. In short, the true measure of a company is not just how well they do when things are going right, but rather how they respond and treat you when things go wrong. The company that eventually helped us couldn't believe that Capital did not see something obvious that was right in front of their face the whole time, and worse, that they tried to cover their lack of basic troubleshooting by blaming the customer. read more

The airflow in our upstairs bedrooms was poorly implemented when our house was built. We called Capital Heating to add return air registers in three upstairs bedroom. Sean came out and did an excellent job to fix this problem. I've got some experience in the HVAC industry and his workmanship was top notch. His fabrication skills were excellent, seams sealed, insulation installed and secured properly, and flex was tied up properly and without crimps. Dampers were also installed and adjusted properly. I was impressed. He was also very polite, friendly, helpful with moving furniture, and he protected our house as if it were his own. Clean-up was also pristine. Next time we need HVAC services Capital Heating will get our business. read more

Update: Amber the manager called. Wow. Veiled threats of not sending out another tech and constantly interrupting me while I tried to explain my side of what happened. And when I asked if she could stop interrupting me because I didn't interrupt her when she was speaking, she said I was being hostile. I mean, I would think interrupting someone while they're talking is actually what's hostile, but what do I know. Is there a way to give zero stars on a review? Because there should be. We had a great experience with them previous, so we decided to call them up again when our furnace was acting up. Holy moly. Our heat pump was blowing cold air. That's always been the issue. The 1st technician said it was the gas valve. We got that replaced. $600 later, still blowing cold air, same issue. 2nd technician comes back and said it was the setting on our thermostat and was surprised the initial technician didn't check the setting before he left. Changed settings. Still blowing cold air, same issue. 2nd technician came back (3rd visit from Capital), and said it was the thermostat outside reading the wrong temperature. Replaced that. Still blowing cold air, same issue. 3rd technician (4th visit) came out today. First off, he tests everything again and says it's all fine. My husband lets him know this seems to happen when it's cold outside, so the technician surmises it could be the defrost mode. At some point he mentioned to my husband he's been on the job for 2 weeks but has years of experience. They find the defrost mode test button. Push the button. Heat pump is stuck on defrost. Technician is puzzled, so he calls his OLD boss. Talks to him over the phone, and says that it seems like the defroster is broken, he thinks maybe. Then he writes up a big old quote based on information he got from his OLD boss on the phone. You know, the OLD boss he no longer works for and has zero interest in making sure this thing gets fixed. Then he can't get the heater out of test mode and says he's got to go to his next appointment. So he shrugs and leaves the heater in test mode. And then he charges us for the visit today despite this being our 4th visit for literally the same issue despite us already spending $600 to NOT fix our heating and leaving the heater stuck in test mode. We're waiting on a call back from Capital about what in the actual heck is going on and why we're still without a working heater despite 4 visits and hundreds already spent. And why even after 4 visits, we're still not quite sure why our heating isn't working. read more

When our furnace was only blowing cold air, we called Capital Heating because they are the service company on record for this furnace. They diagnosed a $1200 part replacement that took 6 days to arrive. After the new part installation, the furnace blew heated air, so all good. Next day, it only blows cold again. Another tech comes out a day after that, pokes around and says it our thermostat and since my husband it mechanical and has installed a few Nest thermostats for previous homes and our kid's homes, he agreed it was a good idea for us to do that ourselves. When replacing the Nest device, it seems like the old Nest is working fine, but we replaced it with a new $250 Nest product and the furnace still only blows cold air. When we called Capital for service, they said our warranty is void because we installed our own Nest. They will no longer uphold the warranty for their work and will charge us all over again if they come out again to do more trouble shooting. Also, when we talked with the service manager, she said we had done our own service work on the furnace and that's why they won't honor their work. We did not work on the furnace! Needless to say, we are still cold over here and are looking for a new service company. read more

We called Capital Heating for a routine service and one other issue to check out and advise. They came in and first comment was this is a very old unit probably need replacement. While it might be true, it's still a working unit with no major issues. We just wanted a service and advise on one other issue. After a while of working and servicing the furnace and system; we have been told that our system is not fixable. They left our house with suggesting that we should replace the whole system which is $15-19K range. As it's ridiculous as it could be; they also forgot to left the switch button "on" inside the furnace. Next couple days we were going crazy why we can't get heater working. We called them back and another technician came. In about 1 minute after getting here; technician opened the furnace and said "ahaaa" my counterpart previously was here forgot to have the system on! Then the technician worked over an hour and said similar things that system is not fixable and set the heater to emergency heating manually controlled by us by hand clicking. About two weeks later I get another company to come look at it. They came, diagnosed and fixed the entire problem within 30 min with only thermostat and one part changing. While the issue reported to me as simple and very clear, I'm extremely disappointed with Capital Heating for not focusing of fixing the issue diligently vs trying to sell me a brand new unit. In the meantime, demanding payment for the second technician's visit while it's clear as crystal that second technician was here to fix to first technician's error. After all, when the first technician came to fix our "working" heater and leaving us without heater and making us pay for this service; asking a second pay is unacceptable and unfair. In the meantime, we tried to heat up the house with small heaters two days after the technician forgot to keep our heater switch on; We lost one of our pet guinea pig due to pneumonia a few days later. I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this company while they should stop asking me to pay second visit; and refund even the first visit putting us in a very inconvenient situation. read more

I've been using Capital HVAC for around 2-3 years. Every year I sign up for the maintenance plan. My HVAC unit is a few years old so it's relatively new still. The past two years the techs have tested everything out and said everything works great! That's not true though. As soon as we get to the first week of cold temps. below 30, I find out that my heating strips aren't activating. Everything is great until it gets really cold- when you really need heat. I do feel that the service call of $130 is wasted if they drive away and I still don't have the problem fixed. read more

Came out to my home and, despite the tech being very nice, stated that they did not have the right van/ equipment for my furnace. The tech told me they would call back later that same day to resolve. Hadn't received a call within a few hours so I called them and was told the schedule planner would definitely call me back by the end of the day. Never called. Finally, when I called them back about a week later, I was told they couldn't schedule me for at least a month out. Told them thank you, but no thank you. They should ask for a photo of the furnace in advance so they can make sure they have the right equipment for the day of your scheduled appointment. After being approved for financing, 3 days later is when I finally hear back from Matt (if I tell you I get off of work at 5:15pm, don't call me at 3:00pm expecting someone to answer), telling me that type of financing isn't for a condenser + installation, its primarily for heat pumps and other equipment. Your site doesn't list the qualifying systems even in small print for consumers to make an informed decision prior to applying for financing. I think any reasonable individual would consider these practices pretty deceptive no matter how you try to spin it. read more

When we were renting we had to call Capital to come out at least a half a dozen times to look at our furnace that the homeowner refused to replace. The service guys at Capital always showed up and got the furnace working. They even tried to recommend to the homeowner that he replace the furnace. When we recently bought our first home in Washington and wanted to install central air conditioning, we immediately called Capital. We had some scheduling issues with their Electricians, but Matt made it right and provided some extra maintenance for our troubles. They really are a great bunch! read more

We had terrible dust in the house and Poot performance from our brand new dryer. Capital Heating and aCooling cleaned all of our ducts and the compacted dryer vent (which is a huge fire risk). The technician, PJ Pula, was excellent and showed me the pictures of before and after the ducts were cleaned. The job was down professionally and efficiently. We purchased a new furnace and heat pump in 2019 from Capital Heating and Cooling that they then installed. Less than a year later the pump failed due to a faulty control board. They installed a new one. Less than a year later the heat pump stopped working again and their technician determined that the control board had not been wired properly, and fixed it and adjusted the temperature control. In February, 2022, about a year later, the heat pump stopped working. Capital sent out a mechanic to determine what the problem was and he said we had to pay $150 for his consultation before they would order the part and fix the heat pump. I felt that I shouldn't have to pay this fee since we had been having so many problems with this heat pump that was less than 2-1/2 years old. After contacting Customer Service I was told that we had to pay the $150 before they would go any further. I agreed to pay it, since they would not listen to anything I had to say about it and then they sent an estimate for over $1500. I called Customer Service again who said I would have to speak to Chuck Schmedke. When I was finally able to get him on the phone he stated that we should have bought the service agreement that would cover labor on any repairs and would not consider any reductions. I asked him if this was the way to treat a customer and suggested that I would give them a negative review if they wouldn't respond to my complaints. I told him that they were the ones who sold me the heat pump and that I didn't think I would need to do many repairs on a brand new heat pump within the first few years, which is why I declined the service agreement. He said that in the end, I chose the heat pump, not him, and that they didn't really need my business and that I should find another company to do the repairs. I did find another company who did the repair and charged a total of $700 for about 3 hours worth of labor. All the technicians were very helpful but watch out for Management/Customer Service. read more

We have had two totally messed up appointments with CH&C! We had a Saturday appointment for duct cleaning on our Gravelly Bch Lp home. Instead, we got an early morning call saying the technician had a family emergency and needed to re-schedule. We understand emergencies do happen so we moved the furniture back into place and set up another appointment. The next available time slot was for a weekday, so I took six hours off (value of leave was $200 which might be invoiced to CH&C), my ailing 100lb wife prepped the house in the morning, I came home for the noon-1:00 scheduled appt. and we waited. It turns out, "wait" was the operative term because the technician was late (he arrived at 1:30). He checked out the place and said he did not have enough hose to reach the furnace. Unfortunately the staff making the appointment had failed to mention anything about distance from truck to furnace and I am not a subject matter expert on duct cleaning so had no idea. We have heard nothing from them about this matter so moved the furniture back into place. We're stunned that no apology has been forthcoming from CH&C and they've made no attempt to reschedule if we wanted to. Very poor business practices all around. read more
