Two stars mainly because the bread and oil and their house salad is amazing. This is the second time I've ordered Eggplant Parmesan at Sunset and have been given chicken instead. I understand all about mix ups but to not even take a glass of wine off of our check, just unacceptable to us. Especially after waiting the amount of time we did, not once, but only twice for my meal. What's even more ridiculous is how we could hear them arguing over wether or not to give us a discount. This is Jenna speaking. WOW. EVERYONE PLEASE LISTEN. LET ME JUST SAY THE MANAGEMENT OF SUNSET CAFE IS HORRID!!!! I have been going to Sunset Cafe for 3 YEARS! And have had so many good meals and good times there. Today I went with my boyfriend to get half off kids meals on Sundays, that we have been doing for YEARS! (Side note: we went there a week ago and ordered Kids Chicken Parm and got the half off) After we ate the stalest bread I have ever digested, and had a decent meal, the check came and said that each kids meal was $9, instead of $4.50. This may not seem like much of a difference to you, but for 2 college kids trying to have a nice Sunday meal, this is a big difference. We politely asked the waitress what the deal was, and she said she was not sure so she would get the manager. The manager came to talk to us- HE WAS ONE OF THE RUDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Not only did he say that we were wrong- "all other kids meals besides the chicken parm are supposed to be half off on Sundays" (although we had just gone there one week earlier and gotten half off the kids chicken parm), he did not apologize once for the misunderstanding. You would think that a halfway decent manager or even just a nice guy would apologize and give us the half off right??? Wrong!!!- he just walked away without apologizing or giving us any reasonable explanation. I am so disappointed and wanted to take all the lollipops that they have on my way out the door. read more

Not great. My wife and I both had salads. My chop salad was as boring as could be with lettuce that was a day too old. My wife's salmon salad was better, but the salmon was completely unseasoned and cooked to death. I went here in early January for the first time. The place was under construction inside, which was a little unsightly, but I know that's only a temporary thing. Our service though was good. The waitress was young, but extremely nice and knew the menu. The food was good, not excellent though. I had the eggplant parmesan, which was OK, and my partner had the stuffed peppers, which were enjoyed. The salads were surprisingly tasty as well. However, the people that showed up in the restaurant were a little bit unsavory for me. Also, I went to use the restroom which was in the bar and that was gross, so I'm afraid to know what the kitchen is like. So, would I go back? Probably not. read more

Edible, but overpriced for what you get. HUGE portions, excessively so - I took my left overs home and barely finished my entree in two sittings. I am also under the impression that no one knew what the hell they were doing. After our mussels appetizer (that we waited half hour for), my entree came 40 minutes later. Within a minute of receiving it however, the busboy came to take our dishes away. He grabbed the plates right as my girlfriend picked up her first spoonful! After we ordered we were brought someone else's leftovers all boxed up. Not very organized. Our waitress was polite and mentioned she was training someone, but after our initial meeting, nobody came to take my order. I had to hunt them down so we could order. The bread was good, as well as the mussels, but this was followed by a flavourless entrees. The braciole (italian rolled steak) was dry and doused in a half a quart of off-the-shelf acidic red sauce. This sat on a giant pile of pasta that would be appropriate for 4 mouths, not one. My girlfriends salmon was plain and on par with the frozen stuff you get at the supermarket. The decor was nice, but clashed with the horrible cheap chairs and tables. Overall I think this place has potential, however the restaurant seems confused, attempting fancy-expensive Italian and falling many yards short. Needs smaller plates with better, fresher, more flavourful food, and a retrained staff. At $40 per head for dinner there are better places. read more

Not a fan, not even a little. I had the worst dinner here, and pretty much zero service. Not sure how this place gets business?? I'm a huge fan of pasta dishes, just assumed since they made it sound so delicious on the menu, i'd try a pasta dish. When the meal finally came it looked rather unappealing. I could kinda tell right away from looking at it. I ordered a seafood pasta w\ white sauce. YUCK! over cooked soggy noodles, ZERO flavor, and when I pushed the heaping pasta to the side of my dish, I find pasta water. I didn't want to ruin the night, so I said nothing to the waitress, to me, it just wasn't worth the aggravation. We just decided we would never go back there again. The food is adequate but overpriced. And they seem to have instituted a policy of non-service unless you are a frequent flyer here. The "hostess" is completely incompetent at noticing people who are waiting to be seated and the waitresses are more interested in yapping on cell phones and kibbitzing with friends than they are in taking orders and bringing food. This place is a hidden gem of Greensburg! It's not very modern, and the menu is small, but everything on the menu is delicious. I get the sausage pasta every time. The cafe itself was not very nice compared to other Italian eateries I've been to. The food was so-so and quite expensive for a cafe in this area. My husbands plain fettuccini Alfredo was bland, $20, my sisters gnocchi was over-cooked, $15, however, my pizza was pretty good. Also, the parking was atrocious. It was back to front parking. When we exited, we were blocked in and had to re-enter the restaurant and ask the hostess to find the person who had blocked us in. It took 10 minutes to find the person. The service was good until we finished our food and were sitting for about 20 to 30 minutes finishing our drinks. The waitress came over and asked us to leave. I understand there might have been some people sitting in the bar waiting, but we spent $70 on 3 dinners so I think we might have been afforded the luxury of finishing our drinks. I would not recommend the Sunset Cafe at all. (1) Too expensive (2) Food just so-so (3) Not much ambiance (4). Parking is ridiculous (5). They expect you to eat it and beat it. Horrible experience. If your looking for a small town feel that has seen Greensburg through generations, this is the place to go! It has so much charm and warmth in every dining room! My personal favorites include the Eggplant Parmesan which is my go to hearty meal and the grilled chicken seasonal salad with fresh fruit and a splash of citrus vinaigrette to top it off! With friendly staff who get to know you and jovial atmosphere I wouldn't think to go anywhere else. We were staying at the Ramada and didn't get excited about the hotel restaurant, so we asked the desk person for recommendations. She gave us a printed list but added her favs once we asked where she would go. Sunset was at the top. Let's just say a family of four was well-pleased. Pasta, polenta, lasagna - all good with awesome sauces. Gnocchi was a little heavier than I like, but the service made up for it. Tiramisu was unusual - served in a jar and made with house biscotti - we shared one as a family for a nice finishing bite. Would definitely come back if we are in the neighborhood! read more

Sunset Cafe has yet to let me down. The service there is incredible. Any time we have ever asked for anything special or particular, we have always been accommodated. They've never said no to anything we asked specifically for. Enthusiastic, friendly, prompt wait staff. The food is also great. When you go, you MUST order the crab-stuffed mushrooms over risotto. Been here a few times and thought it was going to be our spot for special dinners out, but we were beyond disappointed last night. Service started out to be great, but deteriorated. Same with the food. Fantastic mussels for an appetizer, veal parmigiana topped with their great, tasty sauce, although the veal was tough. And I had their pesto. Absolutely horrendous, swimming in oil and over done pasta. If there was a tenth of the sauce and 60-90 less seconds for the angel hair, it might have been edible. It definitely was not. But that's OK--not everything can be good, right. However, what put the nail in the coffin for us was the server did not make any acknowledgement that I had not eaten more than a couple bites and basically disappeared shortly after re-filling our water glasses. And the bus staff was loud, banging furniture around, swearing audibly, spraying empty tables down with something like Windex that was very unappetizing, and not cleaning what was a terribly dirty floor. This was so far from being a fine dining experience--more like some corner pizza joint. Although we had recommended it before to several others, we will regretfully have to rescind those reviews with a return by us being unlikely. I don't like spending nearly $100 for two for a mediocre meal and amateur staff. If you go, hope you have a better experience. read more

For my husbands birthday I ordered a linguine and white clam sauce that either sat in the window too long or was just made with way to no sauce. He ordered what spaghetti with meat sauce and much to his surprise came with pulled pork as the meat in the sauce. It tasted like they used the old pork shank from the weekend before and just poured some red sauce on top. For spending over or near 25 bucks a plate on a pasta dish, two dishes so traditional could have been leaps and bounds better. Also, our waitress had way to many tables and did not time our meals correctly so that 3 of the 4 of us were still eating our salads when our dinners came and was completely unaware that the busser was more attentive to our needs than here . read more

I have good things to say about Sunset Cafe. In my opinion, it is one of the best non-chain restaurant in Greensburg and my family and I frequent there when we can. We have always had exceptional service, delicious food, seasonal varieties of beverages and pleasant atmosphere. The only con I can note is the price is slightly inflated versus other comparable quality restaurants but it's not enough to keep me away or issue a lower than 5 Star rating. I've been ordering pizza with my family from Sunset Cafe since I was a child. Back then, it was my favorite place to order pizza and it still is to this day. I think they have the best and most unique-tasting pizza in Greensburg. I also love the quaint and intimate atmosphere of the restaurant. And the service is wonderful! read more

'LOVE SUNSET! We have become regulars over the years. The staff is excellent, especially Danielle and Ron. We have no complaints about anyone who is employed at the Sunset. The seasonal menus are terrific, and the regular menu is far above average for any restaurant in Greensburg. The pizza - meat or meatless - terrific. Always have leftovers to enjoy the following day. Went Greensburg for Lewis Black show at the beautifully restored Palace theater and went to pre-show dinner at the Sunset Cafe on the advice of a friend. Great choice! Arrived at 5 and there was 20 min wait for a table. Shame on us for not making reservation. 2 seats opened at bar while we were having a drink. Good choice! Bartender jumped right in and provided menus while not missing a beat taking care of bar. We chose light (quick!) dinners to be sure we got to theater on time. House dinner salad with house dressing was excellent as well as fresh baked Italian bread with dipping oil and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. My spaghetti & meatball (1 meatball was sufficient!) was served with just the right amount of outstanding sauce! Just perfect consistency & spice. Meatball was light with very good quality meat for pleasing texture. It did not disappoint. My friend opted for house specialty 1 pound meatball & salad. btw friend is Italian! Sadly they were out of pounders but gladly substituted 3 regular size as well as house made sausage. Again the quality of the meat and skill of the makers created a tender very well seasoned link. Growing up in Greensburg, Sunset Cafe was one of my family's regular dining out locations for as long as I can remember. We attended before they renovated and started seating people upstairs. Throughout that time, we always loved the food. I adore their pizza. And, I'm a big fan of the house salad. Moving away from Greensburg for college and then a job, Sunset was one of the two places I HAD to visit each return home (no matter how short the trip). However, recently, it seems like they've been trying so hard to 'class-up' the place that they are moving away from the local place I grew up with. On recent trips home, the service was rude and slow. But, I dealt with it to get my pizza. Then, we tried to go in one night and were rather rudely told by the hostess that they were only seating people with reservations. It was New Year's Eve, okay, that's understandable. But, we had been there to pick up a pizza to go a few weeks before and didn't see anywhere that you needed reservations for New Year's Eve - not at the bar while waiting for our take-out order, not on the website while finding the phone number to call the take-out order in, not on the receipt when we paid for our take-out. And, we had been there in past years on New Year's Eve without a problem. And, to top it off, there was an empty table at the bar within view while talking to the hostess -- could we have sat there??? Or did bar seating also require a reservation? No idea, and I wasn't asking... I've since refused to return on principle based on the rudeness of the hostess that evening. Unfair maybe. But, it was the last straw after a string of bad service. Now, I need to find a new favorite pizza for my trips back to Greensburg. But, not having to go to Sunset does open up other options, and I get to return to some of my other favorites that never seemed to fit in before! read more

Was just there Saturday night. Sunset has been around forever and has a huge local and loyal following. We get there maybe one time a year. The food was delicious but the service was really bad. I believe if you are not a regular or semi regular the service is not the most important thing on the servers list. Tables that came in 10 minutes after us were served their salads before us. We were never offered dessert and it took FOREVER to get our check. Oh, and we pretty much had to tackle our server for a second round of drinks. So if you want good food, a tad overpriced and really bad service this is the place for you. read more
