Wife and I love this place. It's become an annual date place to celebrate our anniversary. The food is always great and the staff is friendly. We enjoy sitting on the back deck overlooking the Lake Balboa I had the 2 piece catfish dinner with hush puppies and fries. I love their fries. Always cooked to perfection with the right amount of crunch. Some of the best fries that this 68 year old man has had. Wife had a salad that's she's become very fond of over the many times we have eaten here. We simply cannot eat here without having their calamari. If you go there this is a must have. It's simply outstanding. When we arrive around 4 pm the parking lot was packed. When we got inside we had no wait whatsoever. It appears there was a party of sorts upstairs so if you find the parking lot packed, don't be discouraged. Hope this all helps. read more

Location, location, location. If there were an Olympic event for sunset views, this place would take home the gold medal for the entire state of Arkansas. The Sunset in Hot Springs Village is absolutely stunning. Sitting on the lake with those gorgeous views, you almost expect Morgan Freeman to start narrating your dinner experience while bald eagles fly overhead in slow motion. It's easily one of the prettiest spots anywhere in the Village. And then the food arrives. Listen... I genuinely wanted to love this place. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and the setting is so beautiful it practically begs you to order another drink and stay awhile. But the food? Sweet mercy. I don't know who designed this menu, but somewhere a confused fish taco is filing for emotional support. I ordered one and stared at it like it had personally offended my family. Nothing we had was memorable -- except maybe how aggressively unmemorable it all was. It felt like the kitchen looked out at the incredible lake view and collectively decided, "Honestly, the scenery is doing most of the work here." Here's the good news: this place has MASSIVE potential. First order of business? Fire the chef. I'm not even trying to be mean -- I'm trying to save the restaurant. Bring in somebody hungry. Add better shareable appetizers. Good wings. Smoked meats. Maybe some local-style catfish tacos that actually make sense in Arkansas. Lean into the lake atmosphere instead of whatever culinary scavenger hunt is currently happening back there. Because the reality is this: People are coming for the views and surviving the food. I honestly think someday this place could become an outstanding mid-to-upscale steakhouse packed every night. The location is THAT good. Place was great. Getting in the gate was a touch of a pain but just call the resteraunt and they will give you a code to get in with it being a gated community. Food was really good and the service was even better. Between the waitress and the manager they made it really enjoyable with a slightly cranky toddler. Glad we made the trip out. Burgers are very good but they serve steak fries instead of french fries which are not our favorite. I have had a hard time finding lower calorie entrées to order and the times I've ordered salads. GET A GRIP. manager appears in defense of the bartender. Food was not anything special. Below average and definitely straight from the freezer. Would not eat there again based on that alone. It was clearly cheep and not fresh. The real issue was relating to a friend ordering a drink. My 22 year old friend ordered a drink and was asked for id. She presented her government issued id ( out of state) and was told it was fake. The lady dealing with the situation was very rude and got too up close and personal and with her. When my friend presented a second for of government issued id she was still met with resistance initially. Evaluating her drivers license and pointing out why her real id was fake... they also consulted a state trooper...(a retired one who frequented the restaurant) so they were consulting customers on the validity of her id. Once backed into a corner we were given a half ass apology to cover their ass. And at that it was still a harsh "apology". The gave the "courtesy" of a free drink, which she declined and they forced her to take. She did not drink it. The bartender physically put hands on my friend and got in her face, and whispered into her ear. She only apologized once my friend was physically shaking and crying. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Someone should be fired and lose their liquor license for incompetence in serving. Major lawsuit waiting to happen. I want someone's 2 week noticed turned end my end of week. read more

We ordered our food to go so no review on service. Just strictly the food. I ordered the garlic shrimp over rice. I didn't taste any garlic. The shrimp didn't have any seasoning. This dish was so bland. My husband got Walle fish with the rice and potato casserole. Again, very bland on the fish and rice. They recommend house seasoning but should have probably done Cajun, but have to pay an extra $2 for flavoring I guess. The potato casserole wasn't impressive at all. It wasn't bad but didn't make me want to eat anymore. Tasted reheated maybe? We spent $40 on dinner and now going to get something else. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! Everytime we come to Hot Springs Village, we eat here at least 2-3 times. Their burgers are so good, all the fish is good, Ahi Tuna Nachos, you really can't go wrong! We came into town kind of late and this was the only place open till 9 PM on a Friday. I also saw that this was on the lake in Hot Springs Village. We didn't realize until we got there that this is a gated community, they did make it difficult to get in. We had to call the restaurant and have them give the gate attendee an access code. That was a little awkward but overall it was relatively easy to get in. We ended up ordering the garlic, roasted shrimp, which was served in a garlic cream sauce over mashed potatoes. We also got a side of baked potato casserole and fried okra. I also got to try a cup of their gumbo, which was nice because we sat out on the patio to watch the sunset over the lake. If I could leave a negative star I would. We have tried this restaurant several times and had different dishes. None of them worked out for us. The last attempt was shrimp and grits. Our first visit to Sunset Grill in HSV We are foodies if you will and have done many soft openings and been to many top restaurants. expectations were high. Arrived at 10.50am. My wife and I were seating after 10top. The place has a great look and feel. Nice, warm, and fits the location on the lake. We were met by Susan one of the hostesses. She had a great smile, very professional, welcomed us to the place. She seemed happy to be there. We were then greeted almost immediately by our waitress Jennifer. Again very warm, welcoming and nice. We quickly had our drinks. ordered two appetizers. We don't usually order as much food as we did but wanted to try some more things. Apps were out and we were the first ones to get food. Apps. Sriracha fries - delicious. Just enough kick to them, not over powering. Ahi tuna nachos - I felt this was the best dish. Wow. Amazing. Won tons cooked perfectly, good meat portion, slaw was good, and the sauce was amazing. Waitress was very nice and attentive with refills etc. Main. -Roasted garlic shrimp. Was just delicious. The sauce was perfect. Shrimp cooked perfectly and potatoes great. Another great dish that I likely will repeat. -Monterrey chicken, baked potato casserole, green beans, sweet potato casserole. Chicken was cooked to perfection, still juicy and tasty. Potatoes were very good. Sweet potato casserole was perfect. Green beans fresh, seasoned perfectly, slightly crispy. Great Dessert...Had the lemon blueberry crumble. wonderful. Overall great experience. Adrian, manager, came around checking on us, with a note pad asking for detailed feedback on each dish, really wanting good/ bad. Means a lot, they care and want to get this right. She was so sweet and welcoming. Felt like a hometown family place. The 10 too seated first were well cared for. Lastly and maybe the best. The "bus old man" aka Bob was the best bus boy ever. Honestly- this is the place HSV needs. A lakefront dining location with a fantastic view, a reasonable menus with a variety of choices, and friendly staff. You are likely to hear other people complain about this or about that, but stop listening to those people. Went yesterday for the first time. Host gave us menus and seated us promptly. Sat on the deck. Never got a waitperson. After 20 minutes I went to the bar ordered my own drinks. We finished them 20 minutes later and left. Great view but it did not seem that their staff had been trained very well. We sat there the better part of an hour and then left for the Bee Hive and got something to eat. It didn't ruin my day but I am not in a hurry to go back. read more

Beautiful view and yummy food! Checked Sunset Grill out on our vacation and it did not disappoint. We did have somewhat of an odd experience. We called ahead to make sure they had tables open and they responded saying there were several. When we drove over we were stopped by a station because it was a gated community. We had to call the restaurant back and get a code to give to the attendant to pass through. I wish they would have mentioned that when we called or put it on the website or something. Once we got there we decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view. The deck was over the water of a beautiful small lake. We tried a couple appetizers including the beer cheese dip, firecracker shrimp, and a cup of gumbo. I was not a big fan of the beer cheese dip. The texture was really thick but the pretzels were good. The firecracker shrimp was delicious. The gumbo was good too. For my entree I had the Garlic Roasted Shrimp on a bed of mashed potato's. It was good as well. The fried okra was also so crispy and delicious. Overall a good experience with a beautiful view. read more

The lady brought kids crackers to feed fish and was very nice. The gentleman helped my elderly mother who was a little chilly by bringing her a jacket. One of the best services I have had in awhile! Open for 15 days. We have a rule and miss the first two weeks of any restaurant. Food was good classic American with a few Cajun offerings. We drove by right after church and looking at the parking lot and all the cars parked across the street we decided to come back around 2:30 in the afternoon. They seemed to have plenty of help because it was emoting out after a 3 hour rush. Wait staff was attentive and still new. Owner stopped by a couple of time to see how it was going. Food was good. Lots of offerings. Will have to come back to try some others. We had the firecracker shrimp, gumbo, and catfish and fries. They had a different take on the fries. They were good. If you want crunchy you will not be a fan. Softer cook with black pepper and other ingredients added. Gumbo was spicy and rich. It had several types of meat in it. I was pleased but I'm not a gumbo expert. Shrimp was good. Dressing was good. I'll get more of that for the slaw next time. Catfish was good. Cornmeal batter that was thicker. We prefer the safer items. I'll have to come back and try some of the other more interesting dishes. I saw several that came out. All looked great. Have been here twice while vaccinating in the area. Wonderful food. Had the Cajun pasta the first time and chicken fried steak the second trip. Both were delicious. Possibly the best CFS I've ever eaten. Staff was friendly and attentive. Decor is cute. Outside seating gives views of the lake. Worth the trip! FYI info. This restaurant is located inside Hot Springs Village, a gated community. People coming from outside will need to call the restaurant and get a pass for the gate. read more
