The basic weekday breakfast with sausage and coffee
Christopher P.

I've been coming the the Sunset Grill for some time, typically during the week and for an early breakfast, and never been disappointed when those conditions are met. They have a weekday breakfast meal -- eggs, toast, home fries, with the option of adding on some meats for extra charges -- that is a great value in terms of how much food you receive. I tend to add sausage and coffee so, once tip and taxes are accounted for, I'm paying around $10-13. Early morning the service is fast, coffee and water filled regularly, and the bill delivered with utmost haste. Sadly the same cannot be said of weekends, when the Sunset Grill fills up with people out with their kids and friends for a cheap breakfast and time to gab. Over the weekend this breakfast joint is loud, a bit slow, and prices aren't as low as they should be for the quality of food provided. I would advise you to generally do a basic breakfast, perhaps with a fruit dish as your 'special extra'. The French toast is a particularly sad meal option: it has the under taste of an omelette which is, perhaps unsurprisingly, not quite how I want my French toast to taste! If the cooks are utilizing any vanilla in the batter for such toast I suspect it's wafted within feet like incense and not actually poured into the mixing bowl. In short, I conditionally recommend coming here. Not on weekends. And don't adventure too far off the basic breakfast track. But if you're here on weekday mornings you can be sure to relax, enjoy a simple and hearty breakfast, and leave to start your day with a very full belly of cooked goodness.

Healthy and delicious egg white omelette
Sasha P.

Came to sunset grill for a quick bite before going to the library in the beaches. This location was cute, lots of room for seating. I ordered an egg white omelette with no oil or butter and got rye bread with it. Perfect and healthy way to start my day. The service was good but nothing too spectacular

Nice queen street entry and reasonable prices

buttermilk pancakes
Stephy P.

Ive been here multiple times, its usually really busy. Today it wasnt, food arrived quickly. I had the sunset benedict and 2 buttermilk pancakes. The benedict was really good but the potatoes were saltier than normal. The pancakes were really dry, i was looking forward to them as i havent had pancakes in a really long time. The food was better previous times ive been here.

The lumberjack with cheddar cheese eggs and blueberry pancakes. The bacon was amazing...thick and crispy.

Good food with ample portions. Old fashioned greasy spoon breakfast - nothing fancy and not for the pretentious crowd.

After we got seated and our waiter came over and he wasn't giving the most welcoming energy, he seemed a little stand off ish which was weird but we assumed that's just how he was lol. Other than that that the service was good. We started with the biscuits. You have an option to have it with gravy or jam. We got jam and it came with a clotted cream like spread and a cinnamon apple tasting jam. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. We got an ice coffee too and it was really good. I always come for the party melt. It comes with their house salad and a scoop of their sweet potato salad. The whole plate was fantastic. We also for their turkey dinner and this was so delicious but we were so full we only had a couple bites and took the rest home. It was just as delicious as reheated leftovers.

In the heart of Corktown, The George Street Diner is a quietly confident institution -- the kind of…read moreplace that has no need to announce itself, because those who know, know. With its red exterior, snug booth seating, and counter stools worn smooth by years of faithful custom, it wears its authenticity without affectation. The Irish breakfast is the undisputed centrepiece: a generous, unapologetically hearty spread that arrives with the sort of abundance one associates with a proper Irish kitchen. Portions are substantial and satisfying, calibrated for appetite rather than aesthetics -- and all the better for it. The menu is unpretentious, and the cooking honest. What distinguishes The George Street Diner most, however, is the quality of its hospitality. The service is warm and unhurried, characterised by a genuine attentiveness that is increasingly rare. One leaves not merely fed, but looked after -- and that distinction matters. It is the sort of neighbourhood gem one recommends without hesitation, and whose reputation travels well. I have done so on multiple occasions, and the response has been unfailingly positive. A treasured find for weekend brunch in Toronto.

The eggs were great but I couldn't eat the rest. I don't want fries for breakfast. The beans were straight out of a can, a tiny piece if mushy tomato, extremely dry soda bread, and the worse tasting mushrooms I've ever had. Husband had the same but with too salty sausage. He couldn't eat it. We both basically ate the egg with a piece of the soda bread. Service was great. Coffee cup never empty. But omg, SO pricey for a diner. Won't be back.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.

Home style food well prepared. Lots of variety in the menu....Staff are good people too.read more
