Went for breakfast on Sunday - we were a table of 5. We were seated right away. After seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I was excited to try this diner. The atmosphere was welcoming and had the classic charm you'd expect from a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately, our experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The food was decent but fairly average. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out as memorable either. The Irish breakfast was not Irish at all. For a place with such a strong reputation, I expected more flavor and attention to detail. The biggest disappointment was the service. The service was slow, they never checked on the table, and several requests (3 of the 5 drinks, syrup for the french toast, water refills) were either forgotten or took a long time to arrive. The restaurant wasn't especially busy, which made the lack of attentiveness even more noticeable. About 20 mins after we finished our food, we decided to head inside to pay and then our server noticed we left and accused us of walking on our tab but we had the payment receipt! I can see why some people may enjoy this spot, and perhaps I visited on an off day, but based on this experience, I found the food ordinary and the service well below expectations. read more

I haven't been here in years. Ordered the Irish breakfast which consisted of mushrooms, over easy eggs, beans, soda bread, French fries, and a piece of tomato. Honestly, it was awful. The eggs were great but I couldn't eat the rest. I don't want fries for breakfast. The beans were straight out of a can, a tiny piece if mushy tomato, extremely dry soda bread, and the worse tasting mushrooms I've ever had. Husband had the same but with too salty sausage. He couldn't eat it. We both basically ate the egg with a piece of the soda bread. Service was great. Coffee cup never empty. But omg, SO pricey for a diner. Won't be back. read more

Excellent food, terrific service and a clean washroom?! What more could one ask for? Came with a few friends since it was an in-game restaurant quest for our walking/trivia game, Cubieverse. I ended up ordering root beer and the Irish breakfast. It was the perfect amount of food for me. Some beans, fries, soda bread, two eggs and bacon...so good! Also, I love French fries and they cooked them the way I like best: crispy see through fries! We sat outside since the weather was nice and the servers immediately brought us water and silverware. After taking our drink order and letting us situate a bit, they came back for our food orders. One of my friends had a bee fly into his ginger ale can before he had a chance to drink it and they immediately replaced it with a fresh can! A classic small diner, red exterior and interior booths with counter seating. This diner also has been featured many times in films if youre a film buff. We came here around 11:30am for Saturday brunch, and like any other weekend brunch place in Toronto, there was a little bit of a wait. However people tended to just eat instead of linger around like other brunch places so the wait wasn't actually that long. Keep in mind, they won't let you sit until your whole party is there any there is very little space to wait inside so beware on a cold winter day you may be waiting outside. There's plenty of street parking around but with the recent snowfall in the city, a lot of the parking spots weren't cleared and we just opted to park underground at Sherbourne and Richmond. Food service was quick, staff were extremely warm and friendly and we would come back just for that. However, the food actually was spot on and wants me to come back for more. We came here to try their Irish breakfast. They have an Irish breakfast and an ultimate Irish breakfast. They both come with eggs, meat, fries, sofa bread and a tomato. The ultimate one comes with all meet options along with some mushrooms and caramelized onions. The Irish breakfasts were delicious and we left satisfied. We really liked the tomato and the caramelized onions. It's a small diner and they have a 40 minute seating limit during their busy times so not somewhere you should go to chat/catch up during weekend brunch. read more

I love getting something greasy with a nice milkshake followed by some sort of dessert so I was excited to try this place out. I didn't know what the soda bread was so was excited to try it but it didn't live up to the expectations I had for it as I found it to be dry and bland. The portions here were pretty good so you will definitely leave full. I was hoping to get a milkshake as this was a diner but it didn't appear that they offered any so I was a bit disappointed. They were incredibly busy when I arrived so I feel like it definitely impacted their service. I found them to be borderline rude when I asked for a table but other than that the service was average here. In terms of the space, the decor and atmosphere was pretty unique. What jumped out at me were the figures along the window edge. The restaurant isn't overly big but there was a decent amount of seating. Overall my experience at the George Diner was decent. The food was pretty good though nothing special but given the prices I am reluctant to recommend this place. Give it a try if you're into diner food but not a must try. Also I saw a review which said this was cash/debit only but that is not the case as my entire party paid with credit card. Not too busy during Lunch hours. Our group of 5 was able to get a table without reservations. Food was alright. A little bit pricey for what it was. I ordered the Irish Breakfast that came with 2 free range eggs, choice of sausage, ham or bacon, soda bread and baked beans. The soda bread was very crispy but the portion was a bit small. I'm not a fan of beans so although they couldn't substitute with something else, they were able to put those on the side so my friend could take them instead. We both got the ultimate Irish breakfast. Generous portion of eggs, fries, mushrooms, tomatoes (wish there were a bit more tomatoes), sausages, bacon and Irish soda bread. I was stuffed and couldn't finish. Highlights was definitely the eggs: the yolks were so rich and vibrantly orange, cooked to perfection with my preferred way (over-easy). I have never encountered a single business entity in Toronto that does not respect, care and value their customers more than this restaurant. Great spot to grab brunch, you'll work up an appetite while waiting in line! The staff was good at communicating and gave us a good estimate of the amount of time we had to wait for the table (about 30 min for a group of 4 on a Sunday morning). I'm told it gets busy this time of year because of it's distance from the Christmas market. They let us wait in their entrance way as soon as there was space. The decor is very cute, also fun fact this is where the diner scene in the F word was filmed. Their menu is quite extensive and their portions massive. We all enjoyed our meals, I had the Irish breakfast and would highly recommend. The Irish soda bread was just perfect. Coffee isn't anything impressive but it does the job and you have endless refills. They were quick to serve us and let us linger a little bit afterwards. But hey, they're not the ones who have to interact with the customers, right? Er. Anyway, the food was okay, but not great. I'm not sure how they managed to do it, but half the items on my plate of Irish breakfast were cold. Specifically, the baked beans and the potatoes. Even if they just reheat some of the things they make in advance, they have to make sure they're actually heated through before serving it to a customer.
