We had White Lily on our list for a while and were happy to finally try them. They open at 9am everyday and the online waitlist starts at 9:15am on their website. You can enter your name and party size and you'll be informed how many people are in front of you in the lineup; that way, you can plan your approximate arrival time. You can check the status of the lineup with the link texted to you. Once your table's ready, you'll receive a text message with 10 minutes grace per. There are 7 booths and 5 bar chairs available for dine-in. The menu feels different from a typical diner and offers great variety of comfort food and drinks. We ordered "Sweet Potato Salad", "Southern Breakfast", and "Hot Turkey". The Southern Breakfast was a filling plate with eggs, bacon, grits, gravy, fermented greens and their famous buttermilk biscuit, while the Hot Turkey was a really interesting combination of stuffing French toast, smoked turkey, gravy, cranberry chutney and maple butter. The Sweet Potato Salad was a nice side to balance out the heavier dishes, and everything had that homemade comfort-food feel. Not sure if we just ordered the wrong thing or if their mains are bad. We ordered the Hashbrowns, the Buttermilk Biscuits, and the Hot Turkey. The Hashbrowns were actually very good! Really crispy and delicious, they were definitely prepared well and hit the spot. I couldn't have asked for better hashbrowns. The buttermilk biscuits were also really fluffy and tasted good. No complaints here. The Hot Turkey French Toast however... I think they should remove this off the menu. We ordered it because it sounded interesting and we like to think of ourselves as adventurous foodies, but oh wow this was bad! We ate 2 bites each and couldn't eat more. Its just really dense and fatty and the gravy is way too overpowering and the flavors just don't go together. We were starving and hadn't eaten all day and couldn't get ourselves to eat more than 2 bites because we were frankly disgusted. It tasted really bad. DO NOT ORDER THIS. We came for a 2pm lunch on a Tuesday, and they told us the wait would be around 15-20mins which we said was fine. However, we ended up waiting 40mins, and we suspect that they let other people in front of us (told there were 2 parties of 2 in front of us but let in 3 parties). It gave diner vibes but was definitely more cramped. Was busier than I expected on a random Tuesday at 2pm. Low rating is for the awful main and the longer-than-promised wait time. But I do have to give them credit for the tasty apps. We might've just ordered the wrong thing on the menu but we're not coming back to find out, especially if the wait will always be this long. read more

I remember when this place opened when I was still in highschool and its just as great as I remember. In fact, it got onto the Michelin list a couple years ago, and for good reason. The restaurant is giving cozy comforts diner with abut 20 people worth of seating. Join the waitlist as soon as you can because you can wait up to 2 hours for a table on a Sunday morning. After we got seated and our waiter came over and he wasn't giving the most welcoming energy, he seemed a little stand off ish which was weird but we assumed that's just how he was lol. Other than that that the service was good. We started with the biscuits. You have an option to have it with gravy or jam. We got jam and it came with a clotted cream like spread and a cinnamon apple tasting jam. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. We got an ice coffee too and it was really good. I always come for the party melt. It comes with their house salad and a scoop of their sweet potato salad. The whole plate was fantastic. Your girl was hungry and curious to try this breakfast restaurant since I heard a lot of hype. If you're sitting alone they most likely will seat you at bar. Had a wonderful breakfast! The waitlist is kind of goofy, because it's conveniently online which means tons of people can easily join. Waitlist opened 9:15 on a Sat and I joined at around 9:18. It was a 2 hour wait. I wouldn't have waited in person that long, but since I could do it online, it was fine. Very tasty and fresh food. We brought a stroller and they were very nice about it. I'm giving it 5 stars because it was delicious and service was great -- that said, there are lots of great Toronto spots and im not totally sure why this one has the crazy long wait. read more

Ordered OG patty melt (reuben style), sour cream donut, egg and steak(or sausage? dont recall). Patty melt is really good. unique. tender and juicy patty. with dipping sauce on the side. Egg & steak(or sausage....dont recall) is too normal (my friend prefer to eat my patty melt instead). Sour cream donut is crazily delicious! not too sweet, soft and airy dough. We wish to buy more (cz we only ordered 1, just to try). As we were eating, people kept coming (but restaurant is full and they need to register for online waitlist, which could take 2-3hrs waiting list). Worth to try if you live nearby. I went on a Thursday evening and I didn't have to wait, it wasn't busy at all! the menu is very specialized in sandwiches, but they are mostly very simple offerings. its like comfort food, but you can tell they are thoughtful with their preparation. Came here for dinner recently with a group of 6 friends - we took up 2 booths and the restaurant was kind to hold 2 booths for us when I called in. They have a waitlist as well which can get very busy for lunch, but dinner tends to be pretty empty and the menu stays the same. We all got the OG patty melt and scones (one with gravy and one with jam/butter), and a peach crueller donut. 10/10 on the OG patty melt - and scones with butter/jam were delicious! Loved the whipped butter and fresh jam. Gravy wasn't my favourite with the scones but I think it would taste delicious with chicken or something heartier. I added a sunny egg on top because it was brunch and I felt it was right. The portion was generous and everything tasted homemade in the best way. I couldn't even finish it all, which says something. I had my eye on the key lime pie, but my stomach waved the white flag. Next time. The vibe here is classic diner but elevated, very clean, welcoming, and unpretentious. Service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Coffee is drip only, but it's good and keeps coming. No lattes here, but that's part of the charm. Now, a heads-up: the wait is real. You'll need to put your name on the list and plan to wait. They'll text you when your table is ready, which is helpful if you want to wander. Expect to wait at least an hour. I've been there before and heard them say the wait was four-hours! That said, the food and experience are worth the wait. I love the old school look of White Lily - feels like you've gone back in time to the 60s right along with the music. Just the little touches like the colors and the art on the walls give it a comforting retro feel. That also extends to the food - mainly comprised of breakfast plates and lunch sandwiches. The sandwiches are good but I definitely prefer the breakfast - eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, sausage, and toast. I was not crazy about the mushrooms or the hash browns - mushrooms seemed like they had some kind of vinegar marinade and hash browns kind of fell apart too easily for me. But apparently the eggs come straight from their own farm - it was the yellowest eggs I've ever seen. The toast was fluffy and amazing. And the breakfast sausage was perfection. Besides the eggs I'm not exactly sure what comes from their farm but all their ingredients just seem to be excellent quality. I noticed the sandwiches come with a salad but not the breakfast which only comes with a lonely sprig of parsley. I realize breakfast doesn't usually come with a salad but would welcome some greens on the breakfast plate. The wait for brunch is supposed to be around the block and they don't take reservations - but I've usually gone later in the day without a wait and their breakfast is served all day. Visited this place after hearing it recently got put on the Micheline Guide - let's say I was not disappointed in the slightest! The wait was approximately 2 hrs for a Sunday brunch, but you can put yourself on the waitlist online so that was not a problem at all. The breakfast patty melt was spectacular; all the flavours in the sandwich melted together well and the meat was not greasy at all. Special shout-out to the sweet potato salad on the side! The sweet potato potato flavour shined through. The hot turkey was surprisingly savoury but still had hints of sweetness pop through from the chutney (feel free to ask for more chutney, we were able to get some more on the side!). Last but not least, the hashbrown was SO SO good! Loved the addition of mayo and scallions on top. The hash browns were buttery, well cooked, and honestly one of the best I've had in the city! This place definitely met my expectations. From the wonderful attentive service we received to the calm ambience of the diner, I certainly am happy with my experience. I'm torn on this review due to a negative experience with White Lily's waitlist. At roughly 10am Sunday we put ourselves on the waitlist for a table for two and were 77 so we knew it would take some time. But how much time? As we later found out it's a tiny diner and rightfully very popular. Still some form of an estimate would have been helpful beyond the online update of our position. We stopped in at 2pm and still had 20+ to go. Near 4 our table was ready. A touch late for brunch but we were all in at this point. Had we known it would take 5+ hours we would have visited another time. Naturally we arrived starving. The staff seemed somewhat uninterested perhaps after a long shift. Not unpleasant but clearly going through the motions. Our order luckily came quickly and in hindsight we ate faster than I would have liked. We had the Southern breakfast and the Steak & Eggs and shared 2 donuts, tea and coffee. Southern breakfast was delicious. Two eggs over easy with a base of grits and a fermented green hidden in there. Biscuit and gravy along with thick bacon added to the bowl. The fermented green I could do without. Tasted pickled which wasn't a great match - collard greens probably would work better. I do recommend it and if nothing else make sure to try their biscuits. Steak & Eggs, two eggs over easy on a bed of hashbrowns were good and hearty but perhaps less impressive. The steak was well prepared and a generous cut but a bit firm. I'm not sure if the donuts were freshly made, again we ate at 4pm. They were tasty but a bit dry. In all I don't recommend waiting 5 hours to eat here (or anywhere) but if you can get in with a reasonable wait it's worth a visit. Seems the wait list moves at about 10-15 an hour. Prices were slightly above average but not unreasonable for the quality of the fare. read more

I pretty much tried most of the items on the menu and I always go back to either the southern breakfast the grits are to die for and the patty melt. My girlfriend and favourite item is probably their chicken dumpling soup when they had it on their menu it was divine. The breakfast patty melt was spectacular even better when you can turn it into breakfast. With the southern breakfast eggs, bacon, and the grits.... a dish that makes you feel good about yourself. Farm to table, literally. The restaurant owns their own farm supplying it with fresh veg and eggs. Michelin bib gourmand and Michelin green star holder. This isn't your typical greasy spoon. Think comfort food but made "healthy" by the inclusion of seasonal veg where ever possible. First, be sure everyone has a buttermilk biscuit. Moist, fluffy, flaky all at the same time. Fresh with butter and house made jam. The buttermilk griddle cakes a solid offering if you're into fluffy cakes. The house smoked bacon as good as any artisanal producers with balanced salt and sweetness. The meatloaf dinner is where its at. Creamy grits below, a hearty slice of well made meatloaf atop smothered in gravy, topped with mushrooms and a runny sunny side up egg for added richness. Slices of their house brined sweet pickles add perfect acidity to cut the richness. The place comes with its own buttermilk biscuit for double carb goodness. Be sure to add their house salad. Greens from their farm, fermented onions (didn't know this was a thing), runny soft boiled egg dressed in their buttermilk dressing. So fresh and vibrant. The runny egg adds to the dressing. It's a small little diner and the food is delicious. We got the breakfast sammy and white lily standard. The bread on the breakfast sammy was buttery and toasted, the egg yolk was jammy, and the portions were pretty big too. They also make donuts in house and the flavors change often, so we got the grapefruit margarita donut and lemon poppy seed cake with rhubarb jam. It had that delicious buttermilk biscuit again, but I'd probably try something else. - Donuts: Tried the coffee-baileys and chocolate-orange. I had been wanting to try White Lily Diner for years but have always been turned off by the huge lines... but one Saturday afternoon, at around 4 PM, my friend and I walked by and there was NO LINE UP. Of course we had to go even if we weren't hungry. The food here is excellent. I ordered a Turkey Melt and it was delicious and everything I thought it would be. My friend ordered the Southern Breakfast. She really enjoyed it and I don't usually like grits but they were pretty darn good. The portions are very generous. We became hungry after we took our first bites because it was so delicious. My friend had never heard of White Lily Diner before this, so she asked the server for recommendations but the guy really couldn't give her any. Paraphrasing his words: everything is good so just pick one. We were skeptical, but after eating our food, we kind of believe him! We had fun flipping through the books by the table while we waited for our food. Loved how chill this place was, but I'm not sure if it was just because we were the only diners in the restaurant for about 15 minutes. I can see why there are long lines here and as much as I hate lining up, I this would probably be one of the VERY FEW places I would line up for. A popular brunch spot on Queen East, I was trepidatious about a line up on a Saturday but our arrival just before 9:30am was early enough to get seats at the bar with no wait. It's a cozy and well appointed place with friendly staff and a simple menu. No espresso coffee but the diner drip coffee was quite tasty and fresh. Sometimes, coffee is just coffee and that's ok. I ordered the standard breakfast, which was executed nicely with on-premises baked multi grain toast, eggs to taste, and a perfect bed of stringy hash browns, crispy on the outside and softer in the middle. My only critique was the mushroom side, which was the only non-meat substitute for bacon or sausages. Although the mushrooms were pickled nicely, they would have been more apt for an antipasto platter than breakfast. It was too early in my morning for that dose of vinegar. But some people may enjoy the acidic contrast with their heavier eggs and hash. We were easily convinced to take home some in house made donuts and southern biscuits. The donuts were fresh and artesian. The biscuits were salty but in a good way. Smeared with the accompanying whipped butter and jam, they were delicious, even better than the donuts. The White Lily is worth a visit and maybe even worth the wait. But go early. And have a biscuit. read more

We found this dish pretty heavy, but tasty overall. 2. Hot Turkey This was Thanksgiving on a plate, served with stuffing French toast, Turkey, gravy and cranberry. Super super filling. The French toast was really thick, and too much to eat. We ended up only really eating the toppings. 3. White Lily Standard Breakfast Very basic, but probably the safest and best option. Served with eggs, hash brown, sausage and toast. 4. Buttermilk Griddle Pancakes These were nothing special from a basic pancake. Served with butter and syrup. 5. Ceasar-ish Salad This was a relatively large portion and was made with kale dressed in a buttermilk dressing. Overall, this spot was definitely something new to try for a lunch. First INDOOR Dining since March 2020. ‍Can you believe this? And what a perfect place & dish I ordered to celebrate it( before it's taken away again) They are open at 11:00am and got there around 11:10am to get the last table available. Summer Snack Attack ( $12.50 , not updated on their website or take out online order menu as of today yet); a plate full of summer harvested veggies from White Lily Farm came with callaloo/ spinach dip. Ever since they started new farm project this year, I was excited to try their harvest. This was the perfect way to try how great & fresh all the raw veggies were. Every single one was very delicious and I felt lke I was celebrating summer with every bite. Patty pan squash, tetra squash, three color beans, fennel, heirloom tomatoes , purple sprouting broccoli , possibly red gem lettuce . First time I tried Royal Burgundy Beans( purple one) & first time I tried tetra squash( Ashley the owner explained it is baby delicata squash). So crunchy, so fresh, so sweet, so so delish! I don't even want to mention how great dip was! We did not even care for their amazing bread to dip/ wipe. I highly reccomend to try this plate before summer is over! And of course repeat order of Hot turkey ( I still call this dish Thanksgiving dinner), meatloaf dinner & hash brown Today's donut ( especially Earl Grey) was delish as usual! read more
