Two days AFTER his appointment, the office called and said that they were considered out-of-network, and that he now owed almost $300. Then the snippy person at the office told him it shouldn't be a big deal because he's always been paying out of pocket. WTAF????? For the record, other than dental work, the most he has paid out of pocket was about $80 when the office started doing xrays twice a year to pad their billing, and his former insurance only paid for xrays once a year. I have been a patient at Sunset Hills Dental as well; they have lost me as well. I have already found another dental practice and will not return to SHDG.

I had a routine cavity that Dr Chen work on and ended up underestimating how deep it was from the X-ray. She did a botched filling that I had to go in and get fixed and even after that I experienced terrible pain. I couldn't even chew rice. Dr Kleinova even commented how she packed the filling too much. I couldn't even floss without it getting stuck. One day a piece of my tooth came out and I went to the office and Vincent asked me what I did to make that happen. COME ON! When I saw Dr Chen she said there was no hole in my tooth even though I assured her there was. She said it was excess filling. Then a few weeks later when my pain increased dramatically and I couldn't drink or eat on that side without sharp pain, I emailed Vincent and asked if Dr. K could work on the tooth instead and he suggested another dentist. PLEASE IF YOU'RE READING THIS DR. K, COULD YOU PLEASE TAKE ME THIS ONE TIME? I've been suffering with this for over a year now b/c I'm terrified to walk into another office. I know they fired Dr Chen as they should have since she did such a terrible job on multiple patients. I know Dr. K is a great dentist. The least this office could do is repair Chens work on the traumatized patients.

The real star is Vincent, he really came through for me when I was having issues trying to get my night gear and Invisalign covered by insurance. He knows what it means to be a patient advocate. He fixed my pain, fixed my tooth (really well) and had me out the door in about 35 minutes. Dr. Whitson seems pretty precise to, because there wasn't a lot of "post-fill drilling" like most dentists. He just did it right from the beginning! Not only was Dr. Whitson attentive, gentle and careful, he proved to be very conservative in his treatment plan. He didn't go for the easy "gouge" but instead went for the best treatment for me in the moment. For which I'm very grateful - and astonished, as most dentists don't take that "high" road. I used to be a dental assistant studying to be a dentist. I know when a dentist is crooked and doing a bad job or making up that your teeth need unnecessary work. Dr. White is the best dentist I've had so far! The $125 for the X-rays and exam is taken off of the first procedure! The root canal is $1375 less than my old dentist! They even approved me for Care Credit with 0% interest, and worked with my financial situation allowing me to be on an affordable monthly payment plan. Due to sensitivity; I thought I that some old decay might have not been completely removed from two root canals. It turns out the bite was just off on both teeth causing pain from pressure. Dr. White filed my caps free of charge and is going to do two root canals on my back molars that have needed to be done. This is by far the best dental experience I hav ever had!

On more than one occasion, they attempted to take X-rays even though they knew my insurance only covers them once every 12 months. I felt there was a strong focus on generating additional billable procedures rather than providing transparent patient care. Patients should be fully informed about costs and insurance coverage before unnecessary tests are performed. I was also concerned by the lack of communication regarding staffing changes. Dr. White apparently left the practice after a medical emergency, but patients were not proactively informed that a new dentist would be taking over their care. Overall, I found the business practices to be lacking in transparency, and the experience left me questioning whether recommended procedures were truly necessary.
