The pancakes were huge and fluffy, however the blueberry's were from a can ! Guys breakfast was delicious cooked the way he wanted!

It was a really hot day and staffing was minimal so my review might not reflect how the restaurant normally is, but here goes: The food was about what you'd expect for a place like this. It's mostly farm folks and locals that come here. I got a biscuits & gravy omelette. You heard that right, it's an omelette with the biscuits inside and smothered with gravy. It's a neat concept except the gravy isn't homemade and could use a little sausage flavor. It was just bland. Other than that, it's a really neat concept. You get plenty of food for your money, and you pay at the counter or the waitress can take it, but in this day she was pretty busy so we took it to the counter. All in all, not bad. Breakfast spot we visit on the way to our cabin, have visited more than 5 times. Food is always tasty and consistent, every time we come in hungry and leave full and happy! Family owned and ran restaurant! It's always busy and everyone is always running around, be patient they are worth the wait! We were on our way back from lunch in Walton, and saw this place on Route 30 and thought "We need to come back for breakfast or lunch or something" so we did. One heads up: CASH ONLY (they do have an ATM if you are short of cash inside the restaurant.) US Route 30 before the interstate highway system (otherwise known as The Lincoln Highway) was a huge travel path. This restaurant used to site on a corner across from a hotel and gas station. The interstates cut off the traffic from this lifeline highway, and the gas station and hotel are gone. But the restaurant remains. We decided breakfast was the meal to try (well, I did - we wanted to do something outside of town). I ordered their short stack of pancakes with a side order of sausage patty, along with orange juice. My wife ordered the Farmers Skillet based on the reviews. The food arrived in a reasonable time. The pancakes were HUGE - they covered the plate. The sausage patty tasted great - it was nicely spiced. The pancakes were very filling, and were served with butter and syrup. My wife really enjoyed the skillet - a lot. It was too much for her to finish, so we had to take some home. She liked their coffee as well - it was nice and tasted good - clearly a cut above just standard coffee. Interior wise, this place has signs. I liked the squirrel sign (see the pictures below) and they had a TV going as well so you could keep up with the world. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly and courteous. We'll be back, regardless of the 30 minute drive. read more

What a place! The owners are incredible people and the last I knew It was genuinely family run, the quality of the service fantastic and is the same for friends of the family as much as for someone looking for a hot, fresh, and tasty huge meal! The portion sizes solidify the value of this incredible restaurant! Its one of the last places I dined with my grandparents and had become a staple stop when I came home for leave from the Military. I truly hope this encouragement is taken seriously and that you start a family tradition with your family! That portion of their name saying Family Restaurant was taken literal for me and even though I live in Indy now it is a go to with my parents who live in Amboy, and just looking at those pictures and other reviews reminded me of nothing but wonderful memories! The ambiance fluctuates depending on the crowd, or lack their of being on us 30 a few miles outside of Amboy on rt52 and 30. Well its the opposite of Dirty 30! :p clean, considerate staff that always treat you like family! Thank you for being a part of some of my fondest memories! read more

Family owned diner in rural Amboy IL. It's a friendly atmosphere, clean restaurant, and a local favorite. The first time I visited this place the food was on point. The second time i visited this place, it was a bit salty BUT, i did order the meat skillet and that bacon was probably the reason why. It was good, just salty. Regardless, the food is very good and I'll visit them more often. When it was time to leave we realized this was a cash only business. We were not prepared and we did not have debit cards with us, only credit cards (don't judge me!). The person ringing us up was so patient and helpful. He said "go run your errands and come back and pay us later today when you get the cash". We were floored because I don't think this would happen closer to the city. We left and did our shopping then came back afterwards and settled our bill. The young man that trusted us told us that it happens quite often and everyone has always returned. my confidence is humanity may be restored (probably not but maybe). read more

This is our favorite go to restaurant when we go up to Woodhaven Lakes. Highly recommend their cream of chicken soup & Rueben!

I have been there twice, and each time was pleasantly satisfied. The farmer steak is really good... Also, the tuna noodle casserole is definitely good comfort food! They have a variety of soups, and they are served piping hot. The waitress there is very friendly, and everybody knows her and jokes around with her. The prices are very reasonable! read more

Very good selection of breakfast meals. They do not accept cards, so have cash or use their ATM. Great service for a Sunday morning and very attentive to your needs. I had the omega breakfast which included 2 eggs, sausage links or bacon with French toast. Prices are great in this crappy economy. I'll be back. read more

I was expecting so much more. I had biscuits and gravy, which was watery and lacked any substance of sausage. Overeasy egg was cooked to nearly hard and the hashbrowns needed more fire. They have a disgusting breakfast buffet that no one seemed to try once we arrived at 10:10am on a Sunday. I just don't see any charm here. read more

Cute little family restaurant with booths and diner-style seating in main dining area. Two bigger dining areas with tables available but were not open when we visited. Very friendly staff. My daughter had a strawberry pancake for dinner that looked and tasted amazing. Huge fluffy pancakes. Very reasonable prices. Serve variety of pies. read more

Our favorite place for breakfast or lunch when in the area. Good food. Reasonable prices. Great service. Yes it's cash only but we come prepared. Love their omelettes for breakfast and their soups are the best. We always remark on how hard they work to provide great service. If you're very hungry, go to sunset inn. I had the bacon skillet and it was delicious. There also seemed to be a lot of it. Also, it was only about $6.25. My mom had the BLT and that was also pretty tasty. The service was slow, the decor sad, and the whole place felt a little grimy. This cash only establishment has scrumptious food at great prices. The portions are generous too. The homemade soups are by far my favorite every visit. The cauliflower omelette is wonderful! The biscuits and gravy are thick, fluffy, and delicious. Sundays they have a well maintained, though small, buffet kept nice and full with fresh food. It doesn't sit around long enough to dry out and become rubbery or inedible. I gave it four stars because the place is very plain and outdated, in great need of better furniture. The booths are very worn out, sloping down with no support in the seats. But the food quality and decent prices make this worth the stop! read more
