I really like the big shelf under the sink in the bathroom making it easy to store your toiletries and share the space with your traveling companion. It is at the west end of town, near strip malls and fast food restaurants, not really walking distance to downtown unless the weather is nice, so expect to drive for shopping, dining or to visit the several nice brew pubs Hood River has to offer. I saw a total of two ants, both alive so they could have come in at any point given that we were on the first floor. No other bugs, dirt, or stains. Awful extremely loud and piercing noise from plumbing all through the night, every half hour. IMPOSSIBLE to sleep through. bench was shabby, door had been kicked in with safety latch and door trim broken and left loose. When I complained, they said they werent responsible for any noises from outside the unit. When I showed them video showing it inside the unit, they got threatening and were very rude. We booked this place from the web. The place is easy to find. It's across Safeway and McDonald's. There's also a Starbucks in Safeway. Not far from this motel is Ixtapa which is super inviting, clean, great service and food. Also very near, you can even walk to it, is Walmart. The motel itself is clean and has no smell. It looks pretty new inside and out. The front desk staff is very nice and accommodating. We didn't have difficulty checking in even though our booking was done on line. Front office has a distinct smell when we walked in, maybe because it was around dinner time. The room we booked is well made and clean. It has everything that we need: microwave, refrigerator, desk to place our stuff, lounge chair to get lazy in, good size leg stool, tv, iron, drawers for our clothes, coffee maker which leaks a little bit, soap, body wash and shampoo/conditioner. if I could do a zero I would. we came here after a night in the mountain. we expected to be able to rest but as soon as someone went to the restroom and flushed the toilet it started overflowing. we tried to call the front desk and no answer. after ten minutes of us cleaning up the room we tried to call again and he answered from his sleep offering us a plunger to pluge our toilet.the toilet overflowed the whole room and ruined our clothes the after asking for a new room we were denied. we asked for a discount and he said we didnt need one because his room was ok: after much argument about how he wether he responsible for a working toilet or not he then came by and gave is more towels to compensate. do not stay here the rooms are also very dirty. read more

This is a decent place to stay on the west end of town. I had a second floor room that faced the river and overlooked the garden. It's an adequate room and was clean, except for the stains on the covered bench. With the a/c going, didn't hear the freeway which isn't too far away, but not visible. The garden area looked a bit dusty and with the heat and wind, I didn't check it out, but given the right time of year/day, it's probably pretty nice. There's a Safeway across the street, a couple of fast food places nearby and a couple of other places to eat. It's a quiet part of town away from the historic core and the riverfront area, but they're a 10 minute drive. It served my need for a place to sleep and was fairly reasonably priced. read more

How do you rent a room and only have 2 bath towels? Welcome to Sunset Motel. I went and spoke with the guy in the office, he said no more towels I could have a wash cloth. WTH How can that be, he said he only has 14 extra towels and they are in use. The parking lot was not even filled with cars, this makes not sense. He said I could wait until morning and then they could be laundered, what at 2:00 PM after check out. This place is low budget, but a high cost for the customer. Fairly decent Hotel, clean, nice location, however the management or possibly the owner was completely unprofessional, disrespectful and verbally threatening. The Security Lock on our hotel room door was improperly installed, making it ineffective. I accidently opened the door with the security lock in place, the security lock and the molding it was attached to, pulled away from the wall. We requested a room with an operational security lock. The Manager/owner accused us of breaking the security lock from the inside which was intended to keep those on the outside from getting in. The manager/owner did move us to a new room, however after signing for the room change, he began screaming at the top of his lungs, accusing us of breaking the security lock and said he would charge us for repairs. Had there been any other hotels available in Hood River, we would left Sunset Motel and stayed elsewhere. The managers behavior was so explosive, we feared for our safety and barricaded the door with our suitcases. I must say I was very disappointed with stay. Yes this place has been updated within the last couple of years but their housekeeping and customer service is something left to be desired. Our room the next day wasn't even cleaned. They forgot to take out the garbage and the floors still had wrappers from the night before on them. The bed wasn't made and if you look at our pictures carefully you can see the coffee cups haven't been washed. Very disgusting! If you're looking for a quick place to stay and don't care about the amenities or how clean it is be my guest. I guess what really broke the camel's back was when I went down to tell the front desk guy, he kept walking away from me like he didn't want to help. The Sunset Motel is a lot cleaner on the inside than you'd expect from the outside. It was definitely not worth the price we paid for a night here, but at a much lower price could be a value for a night's stay. The lack of lodging options in Hood River seems to dictate wildly incongruous pricing across the spectrum, especially when you're scoring one of the last hotel rooms in the entire town. That said, I probably wouldn't stay here again for the price I paid. From the outside, this looks like any other motel, but maybe a little cleaner. It's attached to an RV park (more like a trailer park) and laundromat (?) and is located right along Cascade - the main road connecting east and west HR. The hike to downtown from his hotel is about a mile, so it's not really all that walkable. The rooms are basic motel rooms and include coffeemaker, fridge, sink, shower, toilet, bed and flat screen TV. While our rooms definitely had a smoke odor (or at least musty) when we rolled in, a few hours with the windows open seemed to air them out okay. In fact, I'm not really familiar with any motels that don't smell like smoke when you check in. Speaking of check in, the lady working the front desk is a little short on charm. It's all business in that there office. No question. I think I saw a hint of a smile upon check out. But that's about it. Sufficient lodging if you can get it at a reasonable price. I guess yelling at your guests is ok at Sunset Motel. I travel for a work a ton and love to visit Hood River. I had to cancel a reservation this morning since it's snowing in April. The man who answered the phone was rude and dismissive from the start. I asked him to stop yelling, and he got louder. He kept saying, "I can't cancel your reservation," over and over with no offer to help or other information. The website does not give you any email or phone to call with complaints. My husband and I got married July 2019 and we reserved 30 rooms at The Sunset Motel in Hood River. My husband and I did not stay at the hotel, we stayed at the wedding venue in Stevenson. The Sunset Motel took my credit card information and insisted that they would not charge me for holding rooms. I was then charged $170 after my wedding because they thought I stayed at their hotel, when I didn't. I have called numerous times to get refunded and they have never resolved it. They never got back to me every time they said they would and now that it has been over 9 months, I am positive I will not be getting refunded. What a delight to find this well-priced, clean, quiet hotel right off 84 in Hood River. We were a little worried that the low price would mean this would be an old rundown motel (we paid a total of $77. with a AAA discount for 2 queen beds, and that included a $15. fee for our dog!), but much to our surprise everything in the rooms was new, with down pillows and featherbed comforters! There was no continental breakfast included, but we've found those to usually be overrated, anyway. We came by at 10pm after a long exhausting day with a child who was not feeling well, only to find out that our room had been sold out as per the clerk "our credit card did not go thru"!! The Sunset Motel was spotlessly clean, and well appointed. It is conveniently located across the street from a Safeway. I stayed in the new section and was delighted with the energy saving electrical system installed in the room. It took me a short time to figure out how to operate it, but all was well once I figured it out. The motel was quiet, and the service was great. There wasn't much left in Hood River this weekend and our favorite Hood River hotel was sold out. We grabbed a room at the Sunset Motel on Kayak for around $110. The room was very clean and recently renovated. We had a nice view of Mt Adams and there was plenty of parking. My only issue with the hotel was the location. While it is technically located off Oak st it is not within walking distance of downtown. This worked out for us anyways but we enjoyed staying downtown to be able to walk back from the breweries. The motel isn't in the nicest location but it was convenient for the price and that everything else was sold out. read more

My wife and I like to celebrate her birthday each year with a trip to Hood River, OR for some wine tasting. This year we decided to stay overnight in Hood River and booked a room at the Sunset Motel based on relatively good reviews. However, this year my Wife caught some sort of virus and was really sick the day before we left. I called the motel and asked if we could delay cancellation until the next morning (the day we were scheduled to arrive) as she really wanted to make the trip. The hotel refused and told me that I must cancel by 3 pm that afternoon. The motel is not sold out, nor will it be sold out tomorrow so the attitude is a bit puzzling to me. if my wife feels better by next weekend we will do the trip then. However, when you say you have free Wifi, I would hope it would work at least part of the time during a 3 night stay. It didn't even work in the lobby.
