I had an amazing stay for a couple of days at the Hood River Hotel. Tabby was exceptionally helpful, kind, and patient, even though I had plenty of questions. Her outstanding customer service made my stay even more enjoyable. The rooms have a beautiful blend of modern design and old-fashioned charm, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere. The entire hotel staff was friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The city itself is wonderful, which made the experience even better. Overall, this was a 10/10 stay. STAY AWAY! My family and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in April 2025. We were excited to bring our family golden retriever along with us on this trip. (The hotel prides themselves as being very dog friendly.) However, we left the hotel completely covered with either bedbug bites or flea bites. Not only that, we booked a suite with two beds and we were given a room with one bed. We were told the one we booked was not available, so my family of 4 had to sleep together in one bed. The stay was a nightmare. We reached out to the hotel manager, James, to describe our situation and show him the pictures of our bites. We were not compensated at all. We love Hood River but we will never be back to this disgusting hotel. read more

Super cool hotel, especially lobby. But room on third floor in mid July was blazing hot/humid throughout our stay (despite assurances from front desk that a/c would be back on soon). Had to sleep with window open (facing Oak Street) which meant lots of noise from street cleaners, persons out late at night, idling trucks, etc. Perhaps the noise was our bad luck, but we didn't sleep much at all. Loved the ambiance, but would never spend the night there again unfortunately. If you try it out, avoid rooms facing Oak Street, and if visiting in warm weather, avoid third floor. read more

Photos making it look charming while in reality it's a run down flophouse at rates that are equal or more expensive than other modern hotels in the area. Paid in advance for 2 nights and got stuck in a room facing the railroad tracks with trains running all night long. No air conditioning in the room and the train noise if we wanted to have the windows open. Had a late check in and no other rooms available. Run from this place. read more

We have been to Hood River twice to run in a race there: the Columbia Gorge Marathon. Both times we stayed in this hotel and we probably will when we run that race again. Staying here you are in walking distance of the starting line and the course actually runs right past the hotel. If you want, you can park your car for the weekend and never drive it again until you leave. While you can walk to all the quaint downtown shops, you're also in driving distance of a number of other attractions. The hotel is old and very well maintained. If you're looking for a 5-star luxurious hotel, this isn't the place for you. Not that it isn't nice, it is very nice. But it just has older doors, furnishings, and the like. We like that, and we enjoy this hotel. The staff are always quite friendly and very helpful, and always were throughout our stays. read more

A destination wedding brought us to this northern Oregon town and hotel. Like others have stated, there is a 3-night minimum stay on the weekend, so we basically paid for an extra night we didn't need as we were en route from Maui. September weekend rates were $160 - $186/night not including taxes. LOCATION: Situated near the Columbia River that separates the states of Oregon and Washington, this National Register of Historic Places hotel is surrounded by the small town of Hood River. The area has a nice amount of eateries, small shops and several breweries, yet no convenience store within walking distance. PARKING: Guests are given passes to park at the Mt. Hood Railroad Station at the corner of Cascade & 1st, a short walk downhill from the hotel. $10/day. ATMOSPHERE: Built in 1912 and restored in 1989, it exudes charm at every corner, including an elevator with a manually-sliding brass cage door. The lobby doubles as the hotel's lounge with fireplace and Nordic cuisine Broder Øst restaurant (reviewed separately). Being just 3 levels high, we utilized the stairs a lot. CHECK IN: The gentleman who assisted us was friendly and informative. There is no bell service but a luggage cart is available for use. Trying to hold open the elevator's manually sliding doors and getting the cart in and out was a challenge. No-fail metallic keys were issued. ROOM 318: The charm continued with creaky wood flooring, layers of paint everywhere, high ceilings and no view. The queen bed was pretty comfortable as were the pillows. Central a/c was present but there wasn't a thermostat in the room yet the temperature stayed comfortable. The basin was located in the bedroom as there was no room in the bathroom for it. You're out of luck if you need closet space, a safe or an iron & board. Wi-Fi was free but I didn't use it. The ambiance was peaceful sans for the morning movement of other guests in the hallway. Why is the bathroom so small? A sign above the toilet stated that the current bathroom used to be the closet. The (probably communal) toilet and tub used to be down the hallway. The shower was clean with plenty of hot water, medium water pressure and quick drain. The usual bath amenities were available including a hairdryer. HOUSEKEEPING: I guess we were supposed to hang the "service requested" sign which we learned later was on the other side of the "do not disturb" sign as no one came to clean the room. Staff weren't friendly as they didn't acknowledge us in the hallways. Because we didn't receive a cleaning, I went to the front desk to ask for fresh wash cloths and bath towels. The guy working said he'd bring it up in about 15 minutes, which he did but no wash cloths were brought. Ugh! CHECK OUT: No line at 4:30am, LOL. The gal was friendly and professional. TIP: Ride shares and taxis can probably drop you off here but don't expect to find a ride out. So, rent a car! OVERALL: Decent rooms and stay. read more

Was ok, interest place but tire alarm went off several times in the middle of the night said was a wiring issue. Manager was actually really rude about it when I asked to be reimbursed one of the nights I stayed, was kind off weird how rude she was. Since i was planning a birthday stay for my son, I talked to the front desk a couple times about the options and the prices. When I arrived the room was $100 more than what I had been quoted. When I returned home, I realized I had never received a confirmation email for the room. The manager was unwilling to honor the quote. I was offered 10% off my room rate, which amounted to $35. Do the math. If you want to stay at a loud, overpriced hotel that is resting on its historic laurels then this is your place. read more

Avoid at all Costs!!!! We checked into the "naked winery" suite last weekend and were absolutely disgusted with the lack Of cleanliness and care of our room. Pictures will Show you multiple spots on the wall where boogers were smeared, long black hair all over the floors and rub, pubic hair on towels, sheets and the toilet lid! In a time where sanitizing and cleanliness is of upmost importance for the health and safety of mankind, this hotel has proved that they do not care and just want to cut corners to make a few bucks. I reached out to the front desk and showed her in person how filthy our room was and told her it needed to be sanitized before we returned for bed at 10 pm. We arrived back at our room and nothing had been touched. I then reached out to management who didn't seem to care much except discount my room. Highly disturbing that this was allowed. There are several other hotels we would Recommend in hood river. The best western is great! So is the west cliff. Honestly the la Quinta we stayed at last time even better! Just finished an overnight stay for a quick getaway. Absolutely relaxing in a beautiful historical building. Since the town closes up pretty early, especially on Mondays, it was so great to just grab some card games and head down to the lounge with our own snacks and local cider. The room was so cozy and had excellent ac. Front desk was so kind and helpful throughout. Loved having a full kitchen available so we were able to save some $$ dining out. Also great free coffee in the lobby. Only cons: no bathtub, parking is down the hill and kind of inconvenient. But I would definitely stay again. read more

What a wonderful surprise this little hotel was. We just randomly decided to stay in Hood River overnight instead of driving home to Goldendale a while back. We were looking for a hotel that was affordable to stay at just for an overnight that looked like it would be comfortable. An Internet search quickly took us to a number of places, and when I came across this one, saw that it was a historic hotel we decided to give it a try. We are so happy we did! It is an old building and it has all of the charm and ambience of such. I love the quirky parts of old historic hotels and downstairs is a wonderful Scandinavian Café. We had coffee and I was able to return to one of my favorite memories of childhood by dining on ebleskivers for breakfast! They even had Linberry compote to go with it. I wasn't heaven. We will definitely be returning. The rooms are charming and clean and the staff was wonderful. Oh yeah and if you had dogs, they love dogs! So be sure and bring your dog if you want them to be spoiled while you're on vacation. read more

Rooms no parking so get ready to pay an extra 15 bucks a day to the city to stay here. Nothing with in walking distance that is worth going to. So do yourself a favor and drive thru Hood River. If you don't mind the size of the room, then it's a great hotel. It's walking distance to everything. We parked at a meter since it was free at night and we were leaving early. If not, you do have to pay for parking. The registration area is super cute. The elevator is the one that you have to close the gate for it to function. It functioned. As I mentioned above, the rooms were small. It was good for one night, but with two suitcases and two grown adults, I couldn't make it more than that. For those that have trouble sleeping with light, the room door has a window. It does have a curtain, but the light still peaks in. I can't say that I loved the place, but it sure was interesting. Surprisingly nice hotel with the warmest greets upon checking in, hotel is very well maintained and in excellent shape. I particularly enjoy the elevator, it's the best shape I've ever seen from the 6/70's still working as of its new. I suspect the wall furnace is still in the working condition but not complied with law to operates with gas in every room. Decorations are well prepare and feel like home. Liquid soup, shampoo uses superior fair trade brand not like typical quantity inn type make ur skin crack, feel very refreshing after each showers! Staffs are almost the most friendly and helpful I've ever seen! Thanks Wade and Mona for the nice greetings! The only down side is the tv size is too small and floor is not too leveled which is perfectly fine since I don't usually spend much time in the room except sleeping. Just remember to sleep early as the city start super early. I will surely come back again!! read more

I will not get this lucky again. My husband decided to surprise me on our anniversary and got us a room. At first we were planning on taking our dog and my husband told them that put us down as a maybe. He got a call asking if we had decided to take the doggy and secretly asked me and I told him no. When we got there we were upgraded to the largest room/suite in the hotel. It was amazing! Apparently another guest wanted to bring their dog so they got our original room. It was so great! We still got charged for the regular rate. We had a full living room, extra bedrooms, full kitchen. Goodness! Spoiled! The staff was great, too! The location is convenient. No need for a car. We've stayed here a number of times and most recently hosted our rehearsal dinner & welcome drinks event the night before our May wedding, as well as had our room block here and after party. Everything was perfect. Everyone who works here and the bartender for our event were beyond sweet, friendly, and professional. It's the perfect location for guests coming into town for a wedding. The Columbia River Suite and bunk house were also perfect for getting ready and hanging with friends after the wedding, and prime location for late night dominoes delivery We love this spot and is the only spot we'll stay in Hood River!! Very very overpriced! Rooms are soooo tiny! Don't stay here if you like to have your stuff organized, be able to move around freely, watch tv, have good lighting or see yourself in a mirror! The rooms are sooooo tiny! The pictures they have posted on hotels.com make the rooms seem decent sized & luxurious. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING! We originally were booked into room 318 -- no closet, barely any room to walk around the bed, hair on the counters & the sink for the bathroom was in the main room. It was extremely claustrophobic. Requested a new room (for $50 more you can stay in a slightly less claustrophobic room) -- compared to 318, 325 is giant. But it's really not. 2 double beds cramped into a room that should have a single queen bed (& by other hotel standards would still be much too cramped). The lighting in this place is absolutely horrific, there's a dark entryway with closet that doesn't have a light at all. If you want to watch tv, you will be sorely disappointed -- a laptop would be about the same size as the tiny tv they chose to mount on the wall. Oh & if you like to see yourself while getting dressed or if you do makeup, this room is awful. They chose to put up some ugly handwritten art in a spot that could've easily held a floor length mirror. The mirror in the bathroom is so high up that you need to be at lease 5'6" to see part of your face. The beds are so cramped into this room that the door to the bathroom doesn't even fully open -- couldn't imagine having 4 people in this room. Could barely barely BARELY even slightly function for 2. My conclusion is that the business owners care only about the $$ their guests pay & not their experience while staying here. This room in particular, with better lighting, a floor length mirror, larger tv & the removal of one of the beds would create a much more satisfactory guest experience. read more

My wife and I decided to have a three-day weekend getaway in Hood River and there was an excellent deal at this hotel (three nights for the price of two.) After taxes and the room price, it came out to be a little over $100 a night, which was definitely worth it. However, if I paid full price, I'd be a bit harsher in my grading (my star rating here is what my "true" grade is. I'd say for this particular trip it's four stars.) The best part of this hotel is its location. It is located in Downtown Hood River; adjacent to many great bars, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, breweries and activities. If you like nightlife and sampling alcoholic drinks, this place is perfect. It was also a couple of weeks before Christmas, and the whole street was decorated beautifully. We went Christmas shopping, and there were a lot of shops to check out and deals to be had. Also for good: there was one particular gentleman at the front desk who was very friendly and great the entire time of our stay. The room was also fairly clean; some minor dust and I found some garbage in the room, but it wasn't disgusting. Sheets and comforter were soft, comfortable and clean. Overall bed quality was above average. There is also a sauna in the basement, but I never made use of it (only so much time in three days!) Lots of beverages to buy at the front desk, and there was live music two of the nights we were here along with a roaring fire. Great ambiance and makes it distinctive from just about any other hotel. Now for the bad: On our third night, there were a rowdy group of people on the floor below us that woke us at about 12:30AM. I called the front desk three times before I could get anyone's attention, and when I asked the gentleman to talk to the people he said he'd "try to figure it out and call them." Nothing happened for the next thirty minutes, and I walked downstairs to figure out what was going on and get tums for my now-sour stomach. The front desk guy was on the computer listening to music on his headphones; which makes me wonder if that's why he missed my first two calls, and unlikely even did anything to investigate. Also, the water in the shower would range from scalding hot to ice cold and wasn't consistent at all. Not a major complaint, but if you want a consistently warm shower you'll be disappointed. For me, noise wasn't an issue but I also had the window closed. After reading other reviews, this seems to be more of a problem in summer when you have to open the window. This stay was a mixed bag. I'd definitely return if I got another discount like on this trip, as the convenience and "chic" factor are my favorite parts. The lackadaisical response to a serious noise complaint, and no way to contact them (all emails seem to be directed to front desk, which is what I'm complaining about!) was disappointing, and for the price makes my rating drop significantly. read more

Just finished an overnight stay at the Hood River Hotel. Our last stay was 20 years ago on our honeymoon. We've stayed at other Hood River hotels, and I had made a reservation at one of those properties when my wife reminded me of her desire to spend a night at the Hood River Hotel for old time's sake. I cancelled the other reservation and booked a room for $30 more. I approached the stay fully understanding that the bygone-era charm of the place comes with some compromises in terms of room layout, etc. What we weren't prepared for was a stained carpet, including what appeared to be dog urine running down the wall and onto the carpet. The bathroom sink drained so poorly we used the tub faucet instead. When we arrived, a wedding party was in full swing on the lower level. After returning from dinner at a pleasant restaurant across the street, the party continued. Even though we were on the third floor, the sound system's bass notes were felt and heard in our room. The information card we were given included a rather punitive paragraph threatening the expulsion of anyone violating the 10 pm to 8 am "quiet time," yet the party continued until 11 pm. A bit later, we heard loud chatter in the hall as party goers returned to their rooms. But then things quieted down. The hotel's close proximity to shops and eating places is great. The lobby is inviting with comfortable seating and a fireplace. But even with these amenities, last night's stay will be our last. read more

DIRT, DANGER AND DEATH: Your stay will begin with the information that for $10 a day you can park in a lot down a steep hill, by the railroad tracks, hidden by trees and brush, and unlighted, a perfect spot for everything from car prowlers to serial killers. There is a huge dead animal head in the lobby and more heads over the staircases. When the elevator starts it makes a terrifying crashing sound. I see that other reviews mention the elevator having been "out of service" a number of times and that it was installed in 1961. In my single queen room there was an enormous disgusting picture over the bed showing a large dead buck and a woman straddling the body, with her rifle pointed down at the dead buck between her spread legs. What kind of people think someone wants to look at this before they go to bed? In the tiny flophouse bathroom I found a thick strip of mold under the rim of the toilet, and an ancient, beat-up toilet seat. The grout in the shower was filthy and there were wide cracks in the shower floor. The rug just outside the bathroom was stained. Worst of all, when the shower floor got wet it was slippery as ice and there wasn't even a grab bar to hold onto. These people don't care enough to take even minor steps such as cleaning the bathroom, caulking cracks, buying a new toilet seat, or installing a grab bar. There was cold air pouring down from a vent in the ceiling (in October). The radiator was cold and the instructions on how to turn it on did not work. I found a space heater in a corner, but given the obvious lack of firewalls and fire-rated doors, the "historic" 110-year-old dry wood in the building, the indifference towards safety and the portrayals of death I had observed that evening, I put the space heater back in the corner and wore my coat to bed. read more

First time staying for a date night with my husband. Very cute hotel room, Naked Winery themed. Bathroom a tad small but worked for only one night. One suggestion though is the mattress pad on the bed was one of those waterproof ones which made my night of sleep awful. I felt like I was a sweating two year old sleeping on this bed. Those mattress pads definitely need to be changed out. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay and we will be back!! read more

My girlfriends and i had a weekend away and spent a largely sleepless night listening to people screaming blood curdling screams, presumably drunk party animals. There was also a lot of yelling, mostly women's voices, and some cackling and loud laughter. One a bright side, the place was dog friendly.. but the relentless yelling put my sweet dog on edge too..
