Dr. Ling-an Wu is truly the best. We feel very fortunate to have her as our primary physician for both of our daughters. She is very thorough, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and compassionate. I appreciate her follow- up calls (for visits that are a little more concerning) and her RN team doing everything they can to support us and our babies. Dr. Wu and her team seem to cover everything during a visit and I leave feeling more than confident after an appointment. We transferred care from ohsu to sunset and couldn't be happier with our new pediatrician. Dr Wu is so knowledgeable, kind and up to date with her practice. Loved reading all the reviews. Spent quite a bit of time researching the doctors only to find out BOTH doctors I requested "don't have the space to see my child". Very frustrating because all the websites listed both doctors as "accepting new patients". Back to the drawing board..... Oh, and it's McCloskey and DeVoe to save you some time as well hopefully. My son has been a patient there for many years. I took him for a drop-in appointment on a Saturday because he did not feel well the night before. The waiting room was totally empty but the doctor in the office, Dr. Ling-An Wu, did not see my son. Instead, a nurse came to talk to us and give some routine, useless advice. I guess new associates do not receive the necessary incentive to see more patients. read more

After our daughter was born prematurely we were seeing Carrasco who we really enjoyed. However, she departed suddenly a few months ago. The communication around her sudden departure was terrible and left us scrambling. They tried to tell us they'd just bring in a visiting doctor for her 4 month check- up and it wasn't until I threw up a big stink about continuity of care for a preemie did they fit me in with McClosky. Well now two months into seeing McClosky, she is retiring so we are left again trying to find a new pediatrician for a six month old preemie. While McClosky may be leaving because of retirement, I suspect that Carrasco left under unfavorable terms. At any rate, the clinic's communication has been awful and flippant. We will be going elsewhere and I suggest you do the same. This clinic is going downhill. read more

Dr. Snyder has been my kid's pediatrician for a decade now. I came to find him after firing 3 pediatricians for various infractions: *The first one found it "inconvenient" to stop by the Dornbecher ICU to check in on my daughter, even though she was working a shifts there all that week. *The second one did not speak fluent English. *The third one closed down the office for over an hour every day for lunch. I have a special needs daughter who has had 2 open-heart surgeries, and she's got lots of mid-line birth defects. Finding the right kind of pediatrician to work with me was of paramount importance. Enter Kelvin Snyder. At the time, his practice was new, and he appreciated my vote of confidence. He assured me that he was not at all intimidated by my daughter's complexities. He works closely with our pediatric cardiologist, and really listens to me, and values my input as my children's mother. Extra nice touches: He always places a personal follow-up call where my daughter is concerned a day or two after a visit. He isn't fee-focused, and has been known to call in prescriptions for my son for pink-eye meds or Sudafed without an office visit....not many doctors will do this, because they want to bill the office visit. He has gone above and beyond many times for my son, who is now a busy college student, and will fit him into his schedule on busy winter breaks for physicals, etc. He has a great way with my kids. Very kind, quiet, and gentle. Even my most shy child enjoys talking with him, which is saying a LOT!! All my kids look forward to seeing Dr. Snyder....maybe it's the stickers, but I think it's the bedside manner. He has a great staff working behind the scenes. They have just recently moved into a larger medical office, and everyone from the receptionists to the triage nurses are all lovely, friendly, and child-focused. No crabby old nurses with attitude, and no nosy noisy gab-a-holics. To address Tina's concern re:waiting in the waiting room vs. the exam room: I actually prefer and request that my girls be taken into a exam room immediately, to keep them away from all the germs that inadvertently end up in the waiting room. No matter how many times a day they disinfect the toys, your child is only as safe as the kid who slobbered on them 5 minutes before..... The other docs at Sunset Pediatrics are lovely, informed and hand picked by Dr. Snyder....you can't go wrong with anyone there, IMO. read more

Dr. Ericksen is our sons' pediatrician and I couldn't recommend him more. He is always genuinely concerned about the boys' well being, from their diet and exercise to tips on how they can sharpen their minds. The staff is very warm and friendly, as well as quite knowledgeable. Our oldest, at 4, came down with a high fever. We were given an appointment the same day, and as soon as we arrived, we were taken back into the offices and he was treated right away with antibiotics and fluids. I was very impressed. If you don't bring your kids to Sunset, then you're not giving your kids the best care out there. read more

Dr. Snyder is awesome and very down to earth. He is quite knowledgeable and we (including our kids) are very happy with him. He is respectful and doesn't talk down to us like the previous pediatrician. Sometimes we needed same-day appointment and if he was busy with others, clinic scheduled us with another quite capable physician there. I showed up for my daughter's first appointment... just a day later than I had thought. Let's just say it was a really rough week in our house. I was turned away of course - which I expected. The gal at the front desk said, "We'll call you to reschedule a bit later." I walked out feeling horrible, but I got the call the next day. "We're sorry, but since you've missed you're first appointment you can't be a part of our practice." What!? Bye then! How arrogant to make the assumption that because you missed the first appointment you wouldn't be a great patient/client. Because let's be honest, this is about money. read more

After 2 failed attempts in finding a suitable pediatrician for our newborn son, we decided to try Dr. Ericksen at Sunset Peds and I am so glad we did! Scheduling was a breeze, check in was even easier, we were called right back to our room and the nurse was so gentle with our son. Dr. Ericksen came in and introduced himself, asked a ton of questions and then examined our son. He was so good with him! Even though my 2 week old didn't understand what the doctor was doing, Dr. Ericksen still told him what he was doing and reassured him that everything was ok and almost over. Afterwards, he picked him up and handed him to me. I thought the visit was over, but I was asked if I had any questions or concerns and was given very clear and informative answers. He followed up by explaining the office procedures on same day appointments (which are phenomenal!), a bit about his colleagues and some fun things we could start doing with our son to encourage meeting milestones. All in all, I can honestly say that I feel that our son will be in very good care with Dr. Ericksen! He is worth the hour+ drive! read more

I am currently the mother of a 9 month old girl. When I was still pregnant my OB highly suggested Dr. Snyder to us for a pediatrician. So I gave the office a call to see what exactly I needed to do to get a pediatrician, being a mom-to-be and all. They were very friendly and efficient on the phone and I was able to interview the doctor to see if I liked him and jived with some of my thoughts, particularly those about vaccinations and spacing them out. I was impressed and decided to go with him. Dr. Snyder is friendly, knows his stuff, is OK with me wanting to space out and put off certain vaccinations, is not condescending in any way, does not seem to be rushed, and is generally positive and pleasant. He even gives new parents his home phone number to call if there are pressing questions. I also like that he doesn't get into my parenting style or anything like that. He sticks to his expertise and will let me ask the questions if I have any. His office staff and nurses are also very professional and friendly. One thing I like is that they have a nurse whose job it is to give advice and answer questions. If after talking to you they think you need to bring your child, they will get you a same day appointment. My only problems I have had is that, while I get called in to the exam room on time, I seem to wait a while in it before I see the doctor. I would much rather wait in the waiting room longer, since there is more for my baby to play with there, but overall I am very, very impressed with them! read more

We just moved into the SW Portland area (Beaverton) this summer (late June), and had to quickly find a new pediatrician for our 3 kids, including our daughter with special needs. The staff was great in helping to pair us with one of their physicians - Dr. Snyder - and we've been extremely pleased with him! His bedside manner is quiet and reassuring, he and the Sunset staff are responsive to our needs in a very timely manner (and we've had a lot of business to conduct with the move - school and daycare forms, medication renewals, 3-year-old needed his yearly physical in July, etc...), and he is knowledgeable about area medical resources for our special needs daughter. I've got two kids who have Dr McCloskey as their physician. Things I love about this clinic (1) They are extremely well run. The appts are on time and if your kid is really sick they come in via back door and go direct to exam room. (2) They are very good about same day appts - even if your conditions don't seem extreme. (3) Dr McCloskey is a first rate pediatrician!! She has decades of experience, she is excellent with the kids, never rushes the appt (so I can get all my questions answered), sometimes she or the office will follow-up with a call to see how things are going (even on the weekend) and is so well versed medically. (4) The other docs are great as well. When we couldn't be seen by her for a same day, the other docs were equally strong and a joy to interact with. So grateful I found them.! read more

We moved here with our preemie from Los Angeles the day she was released from the hospital. Thank goodness we found Dr. Snyder and his team. Since we have a preemie we are at the doctors office frequently (perhaps too frequently, I'm totally a nervous new mom). The entire office is a pleasure to work with. Dr. Synder is the kindest and he is very good at his job. I am hard to please and I adore him. The office is very clean and scheduling has never been a problem. Dr. Snyder's nurse Jessica calls me back the same day every time I call and she is very sweet and helpful. Highly recommend this place esp for preemie moms. read more

Our children have been seeing Dr. Michael Ericksen for several years. We had scheduled an appointment for our son and had it in our calendar for a day later than what the office had. We called the following day to confirm and was told by the office staff that his appointment had been missed. About 2 weeks later we received a bill in the mail for the missed appointment. I called and spoke to the office manager, Karina, that we were long term patients of Dr. Ericksen and had never missed an appointment in the past asking that the fee be waived. She told me that that was not possible even though it is unclear as to whether Sunset Pediatrics had made an error scheduling the wrong day or whether it was our fault. There are many other excellent pediatricians in the Portland area and given their inflexibility we will be finding a new clinic. read more

Dr. McCloskey has been the pediatrician for all five of our children: 23+ years. My kids all love her! She's EXCELLENT: always knowledgeable and on top of any health issue-including really tough ones like Kawasaki disease (thank you for catching that one, Dr. M., especially when an E.R. didn't), listens to the parents & the child, super teaching ability about any health problem and treatment options, patient and great with all ages of children. Thanks to her generosity, she also helped a homeless teen we knew and provided wellness health care for free. Dr. McCloskey has been our pediatrician for 10 years! After a rough start with our daughter with another pediatrician, we were referred to her and have been amazed ever since. With 2 preemies and a variety of typical illnesses over the years, Dr. McCloskey has always treated them perfectly. She is kind, compassionate, patient, and knowledgeable when it comes to any issue we have faced. She helped my kids when I was sick with breast cancer and is the kindest doctor we have ever worked with. My rating is mainly based on how the office treated my family during an unfortunate time period when 1 month after our 2nd child was born, my husband lost his job and then our home. We quickly became in need of assistance. We accepted OHP insurance to care for my 1 month old and 2 year old. I made a mistake that took my son off of OHP to private insurance for about a month. When I realized my mistake and went to switch the coverage back to OHP, the office told me that they would not allow us back because they were not taking on any more OHP patients. Our family had been there since my child was born, loved the nurse and our Doctor. But because of my sleep deprived error, they would not accept him back. I understand rules are rules, but I hoped that there would be some loyalty and trust built up after putting my children in their care for the last 2 years. We had private insurance our entire time there, it was only during this brief time when financial crisis hit us that we needed more. Honestly, I was hurt. Especially when I asked them to check with our doctor to see if she would be willing to make an exception. So I guess if you are 100% immune from any financial crisis, this is the place for you. But if you are like the 99% that experience some sort of financial crisis every 10 years or so, be aware that you will be treated poorly. Thankfully, we are back on our feet and no longer in need of assistance. I will keep my business with Pediatric Associates of the Northwest who took us in and helped us out during this short but difficult time in our lives. read more

Dr. Margaret McCloskey is our pediatrician for 15 years. I cannot even imagine finding another doctor like her, now that we are on our way to relocate out of Oregon. She is not only an exceptional pediatrician, but on a personal note she is like a family member. She is kind, patient and she actually listens to everybody's concerns! Her warm smile relieves the anxiety and the worries of our kids, giving everybody the confidence that things will be ok. Her health decisions and fast actions were extraordinary, early detection of certain illnesses making a huge difference for the future of our children. The doctor we saw was great, but good luck getting any useful information out of the front desk staff. Our insurance changed, and despite Sunset Pediatrics being listed as covered, the woman at the front desk said "uh, yeah, we don't take that." When we asked why, even though it is specifically listed on the website, she responded "oh, I think we used to a long time ago but it hasn't been updated." Doesn't seem like a staff that's on top of things if this is how they handle this type of situation. read more

This place will ALWAYS choose MONEY OVER THE CARE & WELL BEING OF THE CHILDREN. Of Course when you go in they act like they care(I WARN YOU IT IS IN FACT AN ACT)...both of my children had been patients their; my daughter 3 years and my son a year since he was born. Both kids have had both a primary care (blue cross blue shield) and a secondary The Oregon Health Plan. However, when my son's primary insurance was put on a temporary hold (due to Union Rules) and the Oregon health Plan became his primary they denied seeing him. My son has had some health issues with breathing since he was born and it is very important he stays current on all of his vaccines they called me the day before his appointment to tell me they would not see him. They said because they Do not except NEW PATIENTS under the Oregon health Plan (which by they way they said they just started to that rule a year ago). Even though my son is not a NEW Patient (he has been a patient of theirs since he was born) and even though they have been billing The Oregon Health care SINCE HE WAS BORN. I COULD GO ON BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THEY HONESTLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN THEY ARE JUST DOLLAR SIGNS. I ALSO HIGHLY RECOMEND THAT IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO BE TREATED BY PEOPLE WHO CARE ...DO NOT TAKE THEM THERE!!! read more
