It has been remodeled and there are over four different restrooms in different areas of the rest stop now also there's a lookout point where you can see a little Ranch at the bottom and then there's a sundial that tells you the time also when I went there were a lot of people it seems to be busy at all times. read more

Wow! I wish we had more rest areas like this one in Texas. My husband and I were driving back to Phoenix from Sedona and decided to take a quick stop at Sunset Point Rest Area. This is a pretty large rest area with plenty of parking spots for cars and RVs. They have an amazing view of a mountain in the back which makes it a pretty nice place to stop by and admire the view. They also have plenty of picnic tables to grab a snack. The bathrooms were in great condition and really clean. I also like that they had a pet waste station and plenty of grass to walk your dogs. One thing that really caught my attention was that the whole area was wheelchair friendly and there were multiple ramps that made all points of the rest area very wheelchair accessible. Overall this is a five-star rest area and worth checking out during your next roadtrip! read more

Anytime we head up north we usually stop on our way. Our last stop was on our way to the Grand Canyon. This was my daughter's boyfriend's first time stopping here and he was awestruck and was very impressed with the view - which was vast and beautiful. The bathrooms have always been clean and do not smell. There are various informational posters. It's a huge place - great for picnicking and walking the pups around. There is a beautiful sundial in the center (lower area) honoring construction workers who've lost their lives working on the highway and it is handicap accessible. Iconic rest stop on the I-17. It's always busy, and you'll usually find a food/vending truck and maybe a stray musician or so hanging around. The view is beautiful, especially at sunset, which is why it's called Sunset Point. The bathrooms are clean, there are several look out points, and ample parking. My only woe was the height of the stall doors in the restrooms. I was a full head or 2 taller than the stall doors and could easily see over. Be wary. read more

I'm not sure why Congress, AZ is attached to this. It's 81 miles away and on a different highway. Sunset Point is a very nice rest stop.

Heading to Flagstaff to visit my brother when I stopped to use the restroom. It was a busy rest stop, but bathrooms were clean. When I got back to my car I noticed I had a flat tire. I was traveling along and don't know the first thing when it comes to changing to a spare tire. I asked 3 guys who were nearby to assist, and they declined. The next guy I asked seemed to be on a break, but he kindly assisted me and had me pull over to a different part of the rest stop to use his big jack to get the job done quicker. I didn't catch his name, but I hope he knows how appreciated he is! He lives on site and has worked the rest stop for about 6 years. He got my spare on, made sure it had air, and got me on my way to the tire shop. Forever thankful for kind strangers! read more

This place seems to be my regular place to take a break on the way to Northern Arizona. Restroom is clean enough to use. They have picnic tables and we normally eat picnic lunch here. I stopped here over night in August 2022. I had been driving all day from Moriarty NM mostly in the rain. It got to a point where driving was nearly impossible. Just when I decided to pull over I saw the sign about a roadside rest in nine miles. I inched my way there. I found Sunset Point to be large, clean and well maintained. I felt the vending machines were too expensive so I didn't use them. They had the best toilet paper of all the rest areas I've visited on this trip. Worth a stop for road weary travelers. read more

It is a very nice and clean rest area. The sign for poisonous insects, aka scorpions, and snakes was a bit creepy. This seems to be a very busy rest area. My hubby and I are sleeping here before heading to the Grand Canyon. Desert was very beautiful for about an hour and I am over it, time to move on. read more

9/13/22: This is one of the nicer rest stops I've been to. Most rest stops are just toilets. This one has gorgeous views & photo ops! I honestly can't even remember the bathrooms. I think they were fairly decent, if memory serves me correctly. This was one of our nicer bathroom breaks en route from CA to TX. read more

Sunset Point Rest Area is located in Black City Canyon, AZ. It provides a beautiful place to take a break from driving. They have bathrooms, snack & drink machines and a nice area to walk your dog. Everything is very clean and well maintained. You will find lots of places to relax and only a tiny bit of shade. The best part of this rest stop is the scenery. The natural beauty that surrounds you is stunning. There are several areas that provide an outlook or a photo opportunity. This rest area (Southbound I-17) is truly a gem. Some of the most spectacular scenery we've seen in our travels across this great nation. Made our stop at about 1pm, and I can only imagine what stopping here closer to sunset would be like! Open 24hrs., stocked vending machines, and restrooms were VERY clean. After almost three straight hours of driving, Sunset Point Rest Area was definitely a sight for sore and tired eyes! I was impressed with this rest stop not only because the view was beautiful but because the facilities are nice, clean, pet-friendly and well-maintained. This rest area is located right off the I-17 in Black Canyon City. There are a ton of parking stalls available compared to a lot of the other rest stops I've seen in Arizona and even a lot of truck parking available. Their restrooms contain multiple stalls and are fairly clean. Right outside the restrooms is a handful of vending machines that accept credit cards (no debit cards). The variety of vending machines includes your typical bottled drinks, chips and even a coffee vending machine. The coffee, latte and hot chocolate is pretty cheap (nothing over $2) but you know what they say..."You get what you pay for." The "Caffe Vanilla" I had was nowhere near a Starbucks or 7-11 drink but eh, it was better than nothing! Being miles and miles away from the nearest supermarket or restaurant, I wasn't going to complain. Multiple shaded benches are available and a very nice panoramic view of the beautiful mountains surrounding Black Canyon Highway that made for a ton of good photo ops. Sunset Point Rest Area is a great place to stop if you're in the area. Even if you don't need a bathroom break or snacks, make a quick stop-the view is pretty amazing! read more

I like this rest area especially since it's the halfway point for when we travel up north. The bathrooms are clean and there's plenty of them. Parking used to be good but now they have vendors that take up most if not all of the parking spots in front of the restrooms. Therefore you have to park in trailer parking and having to cross the street which can be dangerous with all the traffic. Would love to see something done about the vendors and make them park further away so those of us wanting to quickly get in and out can do so like before. The views from here are also amazing so if you have time, use it to explore the area! read more

Friends, we were on our way to Northern Arizona when we decided to take a quick break at Sunset Point Rest Area, and it did not disappoint! Not only did they have restrooms with good plumbing, but they also had a variety of vending machines too! We did not buy anything from the vending machines, so I cannot guarantee that the machines will honor their side of the transaction, but I would love to hear from anyone who had a good experience. At it's base level this is a clean restroom in the middle of nowhere with enough parking and lighting. And most of the times I have stopped here that is all that matters and I get on my way. Ah, but other times I have lingered, sometimes with a companion and taken time to wander about. Maybe popped open a soda and settled in at a table. Or have wandered around the complex to stretch my legs. In addition to the three restroom buildings there are vending machines and kiosks with information on area wildlife and other stuff in the area. If you wander a little further behind the buildings there are paths that take you to overlooks to the West and even a big sundial. read more
