The stage and projection of the monogram

The reason for my San Diego trip was to witness and be in two of my good friends wedding at Sunset Temple. I was fortunate enough to have one of my bucket list item be crossed out to be a bridesmaid (lol). Hearing stories of this venue when they booked it, they made it sound like a huge hall but, when you view the California/Miami Vice colored building you wouldn't know how gorgeous and intimately roomy the interior is. Our wedding coordinator Lesly Hernandez and the surrounding staff were the best and there is absolutely nothing negative about these kind and hard-working individuals. The best team you can ask for to help you coordinate your wedding. Lesly helped us coordinate everything from walking down the aisle, informing us that we're ahead of schedule to meet early for the grand entrance, when she was short staffed she handled the bar area herself, and made sure everything ran as smoothly and on time as can be. Her amazing team even packed and boxed all of our centerpieces, signs, and decorations for an easy move. Amazing! The staff came out and helped us move all of our wedding things including bringing out wheeled carts for easy transitions from the venue to the car and helping us move our keg with their dolly. They made the transition of setting up, being punctual (even early), to taking down and moving out with as little problem and hassle one can only dream of. The venue is great for an intimate wedding. They provide all the electronics you may need and have no problems answering questions you may have. On the stage area they have a projector where you can display your monogram, slide show, video, or whatever you may want to display. The engineer was a great help with providing information for best color scheme and dimension when i had to create the monogram. He also didn't hesitate to ask when he needed help with the slideshow... as we try to figure out what was wrong with the file trusted us enough to step aside and let us figure it out (thank goodness we did). The venue have 3 floors, the newly renovated and carpeted basement where one side of the wedding can get ready. It isn't well ventilated and gets really hot but, they were kind enough to bring in a A/C to keep us cool. The stage and entrance area where of course all the action happens with seating (for us seating then dining) there is also a nice sized bar area in the back. And the balcony where the other wedding party got dressed and later converted to a a lounge/social area while the staff set the dining tables. The establishment decor and just the surrounding is just beautiful but dim (your photographer may need to set up a flash sync). Another fun idea is that the location is located right next to the large North Park sign. You can request to go to the roof during sunset or when the sign is lit and take a awesome wedding couple photo incorporating the sign. Great venue for weddings, beautiful decor and style, with amazing people working in it.

On April 6, 2014, we presented the first of what will hopefully be many concerts at Sunset Temple. Listen Shows' goal is to present the best-sounding blues, jazz and roots concerts in San Diego. Sunset Temple's ballroom is visually stunning, and acoustically very workable for our mixed vintage/modern sound reinforcement system. In the four months we spent planning the event with the owner, Claire, and her staff, we found them to be very helpful and accommodating. The rental and catering prices are very reasonable given how beautiful the space is, how popular North Park has become, and how good their food is (see Claire De Lune Coffee Lounge next door, owned and operated by the same folks.)

I can't wait to shoot another wedding or event here. The vibe inherent with a place like this is too much to ignore, so fun and funky, you have to have a great vision, or want a great vision to utilize the wonderful space at the Sunset Temple. Can't wait to work with Claire again! View the wedding I shot here: http://jenzphoto.blogspot.com/2016/01/angela-and-sean.html

He was incredibly responsive throughout the process and remained highly engaged in discussing our plans. =PROS= *Extensive decor included. The package came with beautiful florals and centerpieces, and we were able to view a sample table set up that felt simple yet elegant *Food was included and notably served plated, which is typically an expensive upgrade at many other venues *Clean bathrooms with multiple stalls, which was surprisingly uncommon after touring so many venues *DJ and wedding planner services were already included *Photobooth upgrade was offered at a very reasonable price =CONS= *Very limited parking. We were grateful valet service was included for our larger guest count, but I would strongly recommend this upgrade if not already part of the package *No groom suite. There was a small bridal suite available, though it would feel cramped for anyone beyond just the bride *Limited greenery surrounding the ceremony area. Aside from some shrubbery, there was very little natural scenery and noticeable street noise nearby The pricing was extremely competitive and this likely would have been our choice had I not personally prioritized a venue with more natural surroundings. From both a financial and planning standpoint, this option removed a lot of the usual wedding stress because of how many services were already bundled together. On top of that, Oscar and his team stood out for being exceptionally organized and efficient during both the tour and quoting process.

I was not disappointed in their service as they were attentive and met all of my requests. They also made a few accommodations for my guests with allergies and for those who were vegan. As for the venue, it was absolutely beautiful, inside and out! Don't waste your money choosing a venue that is a blank slate. If you do, you'll be spending more than $60K. If you want something affordable, all-inclusive(food, flowers, DJ, photobooth, centerpieces) and luxurious, this is the venue! Thank you Carlo, Oscar, and Michelle!

The fee for the lesson and party is $15, for party only - $10. The announcement (https://www.queenbeessd.com/swign-dance) places the lesson at 6:30-7:30PM, the dance with DJ music is supposed to start at 7:30PM. On the day of my visit, the times were shifted by half an hour, so if you want to just dance, 8PM is the good time. The dance lesson by Mercedes Moore (yes, the great San Diego singer!) is excellent, most of the 20+ dancers appeared to be regulars and thus had accumulated significant amount of skill, yet due to small size of group, a true beginner should feel OK. Unlike most places in San Diego, this one has noticeably more leads (traditionally men) than follows (women), so this venue might be great for a true beginner follower. During the social party few more dancers appeared, but the group remained pretty small, and by 9PM it became hard to find a dance partner (the music was still going on). Some logistics: the free (street) parking is very limited. The best paid parking is across the street in a well-lit parking lot ($5 for two hours). The wooden floor is of OK quality, the seating is adequate for the small crowd. As always for small gatherings, bringing one's own dance partner is recommended, although on the day I have visited, it was easy for follows to find a lead. Overall: a true beginner follow should definitely check out this venue. An intermediate lead that wants just to dance, should consider bringing his own follower.

Kasia was super quick about answering my questions and writing up a contract for the desired time and date. Jaz who i met when i toured the place was SO nice and helpful in showing me what i would need to do to check in and check out (super easy as well, similar to checking in and out of an airbnb). It's a really nice venue specifically for themed parties (mine was steampunk) bc it really is a blank slate that you can decorate to your taste. My guests were very impressed with the decor and venue. It's nothing super fancy, but it suited my needs exactly and my event was a success! One note that i would do differently and advise others about is bringing additional signage since it is kinda tucked away and also seeing if there will be other events on your chosen date that would impact loading, etc.
