Sadly, my friends and I did not have an excellent experience at Excellent Nails. You have to keep an eye out for their sign since it's not super noticeable. We made an appointment for 3 girls at 11am (when they opened) and arrived right around 11. We were the only customers for a while, so all the ladies were very attentive. 2 of us got one step above the basic pedicure, and 1 got the deluxe pedicure along with a manicure. They had a pretty good selection of nail colors, and I was able to find one similar to the gray/teal I've been wanting to get. The lady who did my pedicure was mostly good, but I didn't think the color on my big toenail was very even. The lady who did my friend's pedicure was too rough when trimming the cuticles, and my friend had to ask her to be more gentle a few times. The worst part is that it took 1.5 - 2 hours before we were all done! Granted, the mani/pedi took the longest, but we've never had it take THIS long, especially when there was only 1 other customer during the entire time. The other negative is that they do not have any fans to dry your nails and lock in the color, so I already have a small chip after only a week. Based on the price ($26) and the amount of time it took, I won't be back here in the future. Some street parking is available, but they also have a lot with some parking in the back as well. read more

This place was great! Tried this place out since it's close to my work. I called to see if they had time for two pedicures just a few minutes before I was heading out to go. They said of course come in. So it ended up being three pedicures (my husband and a friend came along) and they were able to see the three of us. They were nice and did a great job!! Like previous yelpers, I'm all for supporting local businesses, though this nail salon treatment did not warrant $40. Came here as it's close to my work and I didn't have time to run to my local regular place. They were great about reminding me of my appt and were rather helpful, though my nail color lasted less than 24 hours and needless to say, I was not a happy camper! I will not return because of this fact and frankly if that is how you help new customers, good luck staying in business. My usual nail place is less than this amount and the color usually last roughly 1 week, but less than 24 hours, this place needs some major refreshing in terms of nail products, etc. The staff was nice and friendly, and they deserve 3 1/2 to 4****. read more

Everyone there was super nice. I had Tina working on my pedicure and Lin working on my manicure. The place is a bit on the pricier side but did a good job. I walked out thinking it was more expensive then I thought it would be and I was correct. I was charge double for the Paraffin Waxing for my hands unless the price is based on each hand not both. read more

Sandy is magnificent. She not only gave me the best pedicure I've ever had, but my nails have never looked so healthy - she guides me on how to take care of them. I then got crystal fingernails, which I highly recommend - no chipping, no peeling, and no yellowing - they look fantastic. She then suggested to wax my brows, and boy I'm glad I did! I'm used to too much being taken off, but here I am, with the best eyebrow shap I've ever had. One Sunday morning years ago, I stumbled upon Excellent Nails - and I've been coming back ever since. Sandy Ngo is the owner of the salon and, as stated in previous reviews, she takes great pride in the quality of her work and the cleanliness and appearance of her shop. In addition to nail care, Sandy offers waxing and always does a meticulous job. In fact, she is a master eyebrow waxer and I've ended up trusting my brows only to her. Overall, Excellent Nails lives up to its name and I give it my highest rating. It was Friday night and I was looking for a place that would take walk ins. I called and asked if I could come in about ten minutes. They said yes. When I got there they were ready to get me started on my manicure and pedicure. I was happy they took me right away because some nail places say they can take a walk in but actually make you wait 30minutes because they are finishing up other clients. They did a great job on my nails and the price was reasonable. I would definitely come back! The massage portion of the mani/pedi was relaxing. I love this place! This is my second time here, and yes, these professionals take their time, and do great work. I am a "chatting Kathy" and these gals make friendly conversation, and remembered my name. I see that after noon on a Friday there are customers coming in, and if you don't have an appointment, make one or come in before 3pm!! The price is also reasonable for the quality services. I am super annoyed with this nail salon. I have no idea why the reviews are so high, but if you're looking for a good pink/white it's NOT here! Nails are crooked and uneven, there are huge gaps where white is missing, and when it came time to put on the top coat/sealant the woman didn't even bother to coat the ends. So makeup and everyday dirt coats the rough powder and makes them look really gross, really quick. All around lazy work and I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone! read more

I've been to many many many nail salons and know the routine and what to expect. A bit more pricy than your regular nail shop, but Sandy justifies her price by her services. She is truly clean and detailed and organzied. She knows in order to do a great job she must take her time so unlike the other shops that take anyone who walks through the door stick them to sit on the chair and soak their feet for hours so that they don't lose the customer. Sandy explains that she it will be a while and encourages the appointment time. This to me is enough to know why I pay the extra few dollars. Great job, Great service, Great customer service. Thank you Sandy for being polite and not go on speaking with your co-worker at loud lin your native language. I sweare people agree with me that it sounds like there is some major verbal altercation going on and my feet are helping the tone to go higher and higher. SO DISRESPECTFUL. Excellent Nails says it all!! They are SUPER CLEAN. They give a very through & relaxing pedicure with hot stones. I called on a Sunday even though it doesn't state they are open, I gave it a chance, thankfully they were. Lin said they had just opened & hadn't updated their hours. I love this place! I found it by chance looking for somewhere local to get a birthday manicure, and this place was perfect. It's a bit hard to find- the building's pretty plain and I managed to pass it by twice, but the interior's super cozy and the women are so nice. I got a gorgeous gel manicure that's still unchipped a full month later (except now my nails have grown out, so I'm headed back here this Thursday! Moved from LA to the area and went there for a much needed gel mani and pedi. Ha did a great job with my gel mani - especially considering the poor shape my nails were in. What a disappointment. My friend was visiting from out of town and my usual nail salon is closed on Tuesdays. Our only option was to try somewhere new and I thought we couldn't go wrong with the reviews Excellent Nails has. Unfortunately I was very wrong. We had a 6pm appointment and we arrived a few minutes early. The color selection was limited and very outdated. We were seated right after and my friend's pedicure began shortly after. I had to wait 33 minutes - I was bored after waiting so long and staring at the clock. My friend's pedicure was two-thirds of the way through before they even started mine. I was close to canceling it since I was hungry at that point but proceeded. My nail technician was rough and I paid for a 10 minute massage and It was nowhere near 10 minutes. The nail polish is sloppy. I have extra nail polish all around my nails and she didn't go over some spots twice so the nail polish is lighter there. The ambiance of the place is awful and it has poor ventilation. For a good pedicure and slightly lower cost I could overlook the ambiance a bit but there was absolutely nothing good about my experience here. read more

Sandy is the best. I have been going to her salon for almost a year now and I got used to having perfect nails. I do the pink and white crystals, which are a type of acrylics that keeps forever, and I only do fills every three to four weeks. My nails still look great after 3 weeks, it's amazing especially because I am an nail biter. Can't say enough of Sandy. Even send over my husband for a pedicure and she did marvels with his ingrown nail problems. read more

This salon is great! I am just back from getting a fill and pedicure and my feet and nails look great. The place is spotless--really. The owner, Sandy, also knows what she is doing-- taking time to fix problems on my toes and really working on my icky winter heels. She cleaned up a bad gel job I had 2 weeks ago--you know the look, thick, heavy nails that scream FAKE from across a room.. My nails now look real, shiny and are really well shaped. I learned she does a variety of other salon services like facials, lash tinting, etc. I will be coming back and you should give this place try. She is next to Hermary's on El Camino. read more

I've been there twice. The first time, a young newbie did my nails. They looked great, but she cut me causing my pinkie nail to bleed and chipped off some preexisting lift from another salon on another nail in such a manor that I drew back my hand in pain. The second time, the OWNER (I believe, given that she was advising the others,) did my fill while I was enjoying a pedicure. I was forced to twist my body in my chair to accommodate her attention at my side. I had all the time in the world but she never asked if I wanted to do the work one at a time. She even had me hold her tray with my free hand! Um, what? I couldn't enjoy the pedicure in their massage chair, instead I left with back pain having had to twist myself to the right to accommodate her instructions. AND, she left my nails with a huge bubble on a couple of nails at the cuticle, so unnatural looking. I will never go there again. read more

If you don't mind Vietnamese chatter about yourself while you are paying money, then you'll be okay. Your nails will probably look okay when you leave, but there will be no follow up regarding maintence. My manicurist managed to draw blood with her Dremel tool, yet did not appear to sterilize it afterward. I hope I wasn't infected with anyone else's blood while I was there. read more

They do a really nice job with pink & white gels here. Only reason I took a star away is that I'm not a big fan of the slightly sparkly finish their pink gel has (it's not immediately noticeable to other people, and obviously didn't stop me from coming back month after month because they do such a good job, but I wish it wasn't sparkly), and also there is one woman I've gotten twice who will NOT make the whites short, no matter how many times you ask. Both times the whites were like half of my nail and didn't look natural at all. I ended up just painting over them until my next fill. I've only seen her there on the weekends, so try to go weekday! read more

I love this place. It is the best nail salon I have been to in the San Carlos/Redwood City/Palo Alto area. The women are genuinely good human beings who are truly nice people and extremely hardworking, skilled professionals. Sandy is wonderful -- she does very thorough, beautiful nail work. She also helps me immensly with my ingrown nails (gross, I know...but Sandy is very effective and never makes me feel self-conscious). I go mainly for pedicures, but the gel manicures and leg waxes I've had there are also excellent.
