I like this place but two weeks ago I got a pedicure don't recall the ladies name I had called three days prior to book a pedicure with Yvonne but they forgot to jot my name down for her. According to the owner she was so busy she forgot to hit it down. But I should have trusted my instinct and come back another day but I didn't and said okay to the lady she offered instead of the one I wanted. Long story short I developed an infection because she didn't cut my ingrown properly and well now the orthopedic had to perform a matrixectomy and for now won't be getting a pedicure for a long time. read more

The moment she took the clippers to my first toe, I knew I was in trouble. It wasn't the gentle nip of a nail trim; it was a brutal assault. Soon, almost every one of my toes was bleeding. My big toe was the worst; she cut it so deeply she had to use that green medicine to stop the blood. But the horror show wasn't over. As if the pain weren't enough, she finished by spraying my raw, open wounds with alcohol. The stinging was so intense I yelped and told her to turn on the water so I could rinse it off. Then, she leaned over and started blowing on my toes, and I just couldn't believe it. I thought it was some kind of sick joke. I was in agony for three days and couldn't wear closed-toe shoes. Stopped in today for the first time and got a gel manicure from Lisa, who I already scheduled to go back to! She was kind and did a great job and paid attention to detail- super clean, nice and thin how I like it, and no top coat caked on the sides of my nails. After 13 years I did finally have to cut the cord , and all because of Hanna and her greed. When it's going well , it's fine. But when there is a problem she doesn't want to take care of it . It's all about money and she doesn't stand behind their work . The final straw was a gel manicure Kim did , I immediately told her the gel was too thick and I was worried it would peel . I have been a customer for a while and they used a nail polish that was defected, so it came off the next day. I came and they fixed it with same faulty polish, it came off again, came back again, same story. On my 4th time I asked to switch and use a different polish and the answer was no, they were screaming with each other and made me feel like I was trying to get a free service out of them. Really? However all technicians are friendly and take their time. They are also very clean which is the real reason I switched from my old salon in RWC. They also offer dip polish! I've been going to Starlight for years to get monthly pedicures, because it's just awesome to have someone trim your toenails and massage your feet and calves while you relax in a massage chair. (Why don't more men take advantage of this?) I went in on an appointment at 12:15 on a Monday. The acrylic tech Mai was still on her appointment from 11:30 so she asked me to sit down and wait. I literally sat down and another lady called me to her station (thinking she was also an acrylic tech). But...she wasn't. She was just another manicurist who wasn't too familiar with buffing. So lets start with the least that hurt. Her tool slipped and lightly scratched the pad of my index finger.. Not too bad, just a little scary that's all. Same nail... she buffed TOO MUCH and literally buffed through my nail and hit skin. ouch. So.. being scared of this tech, I was a little nervous for the rest of my nails, but trusted all was a little coincidence. Stopped in again for a pedicure and eyebrow wax, after work. Giving them the holy grail that is 5 stars for the stellar service. First, big props to a nail salon that will take walk ins 30 mins before closing. Even bigger props for not rushing my service (and staying open an hour late) to make sure us late birds didn't walk out with wet nails. Second, I am super happy with TRINA (look, it's in caps so you don't forget). I've seen her a few times now and she's the best. She's super sweet and does killer nails. She even did a really pretty nail art design (complete with rhinestone bling) at the end. I'll post a couple cell phone shots. I also thought the waxing was pretty good for a nail salon. My usual waxing services are behind since my girl (elsewhere) is on maternity leave... but I was pleased to find that they do a comparable job here for less money. Nice. All in all, I think this place is a find. Top notch pedicures, above average manicures and decent waxing. I also like that they're super clean, friendly and always willing to fit you in last minute. I don't know what some of the other posters are complaining about, in regard to price.... They are pretty reasonable. I got the deluxe pedi (with paraffin wax, foot masque, long massage, etc), nail art add-on and eyebrow wax for about $55. That's cheap for the area, as far as I've seen. They also give you a discount if you do a mani-pedi (which I didn't want this time). UPDATE (again!): I won't knock the stars because this is still my nail salon -- but I will note that I tried a new girl today (an older lady, didn't catch her name) and the quality wasn't QUITE as awesome. She knicked one finger, her nail art wasn't nearly as awesome and overall I prefer TRINA. I've also seen Tammy (the owner) who is also good. read more

In my opinion, every decent looking place should start off with 3 stars and get extra stars for outstanding service and minus stars for problems. Based on Yelp reviews I decided to try this place out. It looks lovely and clean and they do have nice massage chairs. The mani/pedi package was priced reasonably. Three stars! The lady who did my manicure and pedicure did an okay job overall. However when she trimmed my toenails, she clipped a bit of skin and I responded in pain. She was horrified but denied that she cut me because I wasn't bleeding!!! Can you believe that? While I was relaxing in my chair, their eyebrow wax lady sized me up and started to insult my very natural eyebrows in order to persuade me to get my eyebrows waxed. Minus one star for being rude. I was led to the back room and told to lie down on a reclining chair/table and the eyebrow insulter came in and standing on my right side very efficiently removed a significant portion of my left eyebrow, the side closer to my nose rather than my temple and declared that I looked younger. My eyebrows ended up looking awful, uneven, w/o an arch, so that I look like I'm constantly frowning. I was really upset because I was going to a wedding the next day and there was just no time to make things better. Minus another star for failing to deliver a service. No one at the salon would listen to me that one eyebrow was smaller than the other. I was so frustrated that I went home and measured my eyebrows with a ruler and one was 5 cm and the other 6 cm. I went back to the salon to complain and the woman in charge said it looked great but to her credit refunded my money anyways. After a month, I still have a little scar on my toe, I'm still missing a chunk of eyebrow, and I'm still mad enough to write my first review. So, my recommendation is that mani/pedi experience is fine for the price but forget the eyebrow waxing. Me? I'm never going back. read more

I would give this place a 3.5 star rating. I made an appointment to get my nails done since I was in the area and according to my fellow yelpers, this place seemed like the place to be. Don't get me wrong the ladies were really nice (especially when they found out I was Vietnamese), got the job done (after two ladies doing my nails), and place was definitely clean and modern looking, compared to other nail salons. As soon as a Vietnamese owned nail salon finds out you speak their language, oh boy, they wanna be all up in your beeswax. Asking questions of where I'm from, where my parents are from, was I born in the US..."Wow, you were born here, how do you speak Vietnamese so well...OMG!" It's great that they are nice and want to make conversation, but really I'm here to get my nails done and I want to get out as soon as possible. With all the chattering, it takes them longer to get the job done. Secondly, making an appointment is like a waste of time cause I still had to wait about 15-20 minutes before someone even took care of me. That's annoying! Then the ladies were talking about going to Macy's to go shopping so they should hurry and get the job done...ok funny, I get it, but dude I'm your customer! Hello! Made an appointment for a full set ($40) for me, gel manicure for my sister($35), and a deluxe pedicure for my mom($40). Even though we made an appointment, we walked in and there were at least 12 clients already and only 7 workers. It seems that this place only cares about your money because they will take every walk in even when there is an obvious wait. By the time they were painting my acrylics, no one had even helped my sister yet!!! They also talk a lot very loudly in Vietnamese. It sounds aggressive at times and often seems directed towards customers. But hey I could be wrong about that. Hanna did my nails and she went very fast and was distracted often. She got the powder and acrylic all over, including on my finger! There was a big hardened drop of the acrylic that got onto my finger. And she pretty much ignored it and I had to pick it off myself. These ladies rely too much on nail polish remover as well to cover up their lazy paint job. Long story short, they need to take less walk ins and make it seem like they care about their clients. I love how the staff remembers you, even if you hadn't gone in a long time. My mom and I went to get Gel Manicures, they attended us right away. They have a big variety of Gel colors (some OPI, Essie, & other brands). Keep in mind when looking at the Gel nail samples, sometimes the color may look a bit different on your nail then on the sample nail. This color came out better than I imagined! Tammy did my nails. She asked a lot of questions as she was working on my nails; if the cut was okay, shape, etc. They need to work on a little more attention to detail, for example making sure the lengths of all nails are even. Making sure the shape is good. Making sure the polish goes on evenly. Overall, this place is very good. They get a lot of clients, but luckily theres always a lot of workers.
